I did something wrong please help!! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys i bought a Dinc of a buddy of mine which was already rooted and running hydra kernal i just tried to flash the kingxklick #3 kernel and now my phone is just stuck in a boot loop and i cant figure out how to fix this please help

Flash another kernel. If you were smart enough to do a nandroid backup, restore it. Otherwise copy a kernel to the SD card.

I don't believe that you can just flash over a king kernel over the hydra, would have to do a full wipe. Download a rom that you see here to your liking, put it on the SD card, then boot into recovery (hold vol- & power button), and install.

i wasnt smart enough to do a nandroid backup and i dont know how to put a different kernel on my SD while my phone is doing this i cant get into my SD unless my phone is able to attach it right?

You're going to need an SD card reader and transfer that way. And post this in general next time.

ok sorry about that so if i flash a new rom it will fix it is what your saying?

Uh...yes you can. I've done it.

You can flash kernels over kernels. No problem.

As a side note, please read stickies before you create threads. This does not belong in this forum. Thanks!

Format SD Card with ext

Hi all
A very noob question but I cannot find out how. How to format my sd card with ext partition? I tried the clockwork but did not work. I tried ROM Manager and its telling me that there is an error.
Can someone point me to something were it shows how to do this?
Thanks a lot for your help

Get a SD card reader?
i don't have one, is there another procedure through the phone?
No need for card reader. I did it using the one in rom manager, but as you are not able to use this, i would go with the pushed recovery from the older rooting methods from modaco. You just enter the black recovery screen with the !
Then your insert the cable, and run a batch file on your computer. This recovery should have the ability to partitionate.
just search for the r5 root or pm me for link (cant post links as i'm a new user)
You must use the file called "recovery-windows.bat" or the one for your system.
but if you have clockwork installed, the black screen with <!> will not appear becaus clockwork recovery is loaded automaticly.
if i push the recovery from the r5-root img (while beeing in clockwork recovery) it seems like there are both recoverys running at the same time.
how can i uninstall clockwork recovery or block it from beeing autostarted ?
It doesn't. Normally it boots into normal recovery, and then you have to apply update.zip (which is Clockwork Recovery). THEN it boots into CMR.
ye it is because you have flashed the unrevoked permanent recovery. I prefer the fakeflash as it is easy to change and work just as well.
In that case if there is another easy method to format the sd other than using your computer. I have seen som suggestions on using the amonra recovery.. You could try that.
And i only think you can remove the permanent recovery by flashing stock ruu for now, but then you will have to reroot, as it also unroot the device.
pain in the arse isn't it.. I came across this exact dilemma today
hopefully the unrevoked guys will sense this and make some changes on their next release?
Ok managerd to do it by flashing the ROM
Thanks for your help guys

Help Please!!

I rooted my EVO through UnRevoked and Tried to Load Up the Revolution Rom.
But All it does is replay the start up animation. What Do I do? I know I am a noob but I really need to get this phone back to working.
Thanks,
Justin
Pull your battery out. Hold down power button and volume down at the same time. Select recovery option. When it boots into recovery make sure you wipe cache, wipe David cache. Flash Rom and see if that works.

Boot into recovery /power on while holding volume down/
Wipe dalvik and data both twice. Maybe also try /system format under advanced I think. Sorry I use RA recovery
If that don't work boot back into recovery and wipe dalvik and restore the nandroid backup that you should have made.
Good luck and this should be in q&a

Take a deep breath, the good news is, you can recover from this. Do what these other guys have suggested and let us know if you get back to a working phone.
Did you also run unrevoked forever?
Thread moved to Q&A.
I first want to say thanks for replying to my post. I also want to say sorry for posting in the wrong section of the forum. But I tried what you guys suggested and it didn't work. I can't seem to get past the Revolution load animation, it just keeps playing over and over. Does this mean I just Bricked my phone?
maybe you got a bad zip. try a fresh ROM, flash it and see what happens. make sure you wipe EVERYTHING twice just for kicks before you do this. www.geekfor.me

OK, here we go. I recommend you do this "because I know it work", deep breath, here we go.
Prerequisites: First I am assuming you have both Root and Nand-Off, if you need help checking let me know.
Some Questions:
1. do you have the Android SDK install on your PC?
2. What OS are you running on your laptop/desktop?
3. What recovery are you using?
4. Do you have a nandroid backup, one from before you flashed the ROM?
Answer this and I will help further.
Im going to say bad zip...redownload and try again

[Q] Evo 4g will not boot

I attempted to install MikG v1.04 from v1.0 (located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038967) and apparently can't get my phone to boot. It is stuck at the HTC EVO 4G screen.
This is probably a n00b question, but how can I get back to recovery and attempt to reflash the kernal and ROM? I did not reflash the radio because the "new" radio located in the link was still the same radio I had flashed to at v1.0.
Go into hboot by completetly turn off phone and press vol down and power button at sME TIME AND THEN FROM THERE IT SAYS fastboot recovery and stuff and click recovery then youre in recovery sorry had caps on for a while
OPTINIOL:
IF U WANT TO FLASH ANOTHER ROM :
then when ur in recovery (i use amon ra way better) click usb ms toggle then u can view your sd card on computer then just drag a rom on the sd card and flash from recovery
Nvm..............
Not sure if you're calling me a troll...as I'm not. I genuinely needed the answer to that question. When I saw the first menu I thought it was about to reflash my radio so I thought I was on the wrong screen.
I'm reinstalling the ROM and kernal now. I'm hoping everything works out okay.

Wildstang's OTA updated ROM

Since I'm not yet allowed to post in the Dev forums, I am asking here. I downloaded the updated ROM that wildstang posted this morning but it wouldn't boot after flashing. I just now read the instructions about what to wipe but still wanted to know if I need to flash the second file located onder the ROM link or will just wiping the specified data and flashing the zip suffice?
Thanks,
-bzr

Do all the wiping FIRST, then flash the ROM zip file. The second link is for the data throttle remover, and isn't needed for the ROM.
EDIT: If you just flash the zip file without doing the wipe instructions in the post, there's a good chance you'll have issues.
See this thread for what the DTR is/may or may not do.
Thanks, just did the wipes/formats and then flashed. doing back up now and hoping it all worked well. I can always go back to 4.06...
Hi. I have an unrevoked rooted incredible and I installed the jermaine151 ROM last night that has the 4.06. Is there much difference between that and wildstang's ROM that has the 4.08?
When upgrading from 4.06 to 4.08, do I follow the instructions for complete wipe (listed with wildstang ROM) or can I just do the 'upgrade' install that I read on that same forum?
I tried to follow the lingo and I can't post in the developer section (probably a good thing). How can I go from the modified 4.06 to wildstang's 4.08?
Sorry, I am a chemistry guy... If someone could direct me to the right spot...

You'll want to follow the instructions in Wildstang's post about doing the full wipe since you're coming from a previous modified OTA, otherwise you may have issues.
EDIT: You'll probably want to back up your current ROM first in case something goes wrong, so you'll have something to restore that is working.
Who would have thought that following the instructions would work??
Thanks a million!

Anyone know how I can get into clockworkmod using jermaine151 ROM? Do I need to download the CWM boot sound file on that forum page- jermaine151 4.06 build?
I'll go ahead and back up my current ROM... Do I need nandroid? or can I copy some files off to my laptop to transfer back?

You're looking to get into ClockworkMod Recovery to flash that file correct? You can hold down the power button (with phone on of course!), select Restart - Recovery; or with phone off hold both Power and Volume Down, you'll get to the bootloader, then with Bootloader highlighted press Power - wait a few seconds (make sure you don't have a PB31IMG.zip file on the root of your SD card) - hit Volume Down to highlight Recover and press the Power button again.
You should always create a nandroid in case something goes wrong, you have a recent backup to restore to. You can then always move your backup file (nandroid) to your PC in case your SD card dies, but it's always good to copy your entire contents of your SD card to your computer too.
I see how to get into there now.
Cool. Thanks!
I just read that there will be a modified version of the jermaine151 build to reflect the 4.08... I like the advanced power menu he has and the fast boot... I may wait for that.
Sorry for being newbie about all this.

No that's okay, don't worry about it! I am not sure how long it'll take Jermaine to re-base his work, he's pretty good with that stuff, so maybe by this weekend or so? That power menu was tweaked so a lot of what you see was added, but I cannot remember right now who had their hands in on that...but it is pretty nice!
I use Quick Boot from the Market to reboot, you have similar options, you can: Reboot normally, reboot into Recovery, reboot into Bootloader, or Power Off.

Issue with isntalling ROM on rooted device?

Trying to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402341
on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which is rooted.
However every time I try to install via CWM Recovery, I get 'installation aborted', what would cause this?
sorry, i don't understand
Thanks for replying.
I've rooted my device and I want to install a custom ROM.
When I try to install it via CWM Recovery, it says the installation was interrupted.
How can I fix this?
Did you try downloading the ROM again and putting new copy on your sdcard? Possibly a corrupt download

Thanks, I'll try that.
Just to check,
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11455-rom-android-open-kang-project-maguro-milestone-2/
'AOKP maguro Milestone 2 '
which is a zip file
Is what I should be trying to install right?
Maybe clear cache or data? (At your own risk as i am not sure)
I used mah awesome Xperia Play R800i w/ CM7 to write this
What is your version of Clockwork Mod?
Did you make a full Wipe of you phone before flashing the new ROM?
Did you check the checksum of the ROM file?
if you use CMW you need safe zip file into sd card.
Check this also.
Is the bootloader unlocked on your phone? Having this in place is better incase your attempts soft brick the phone.

@OP Search in your device forum and if you don't find an answer then ask there so you're talking to people with the same device. They will be able to help better.
