I rooted and then flashed my phone up to 2.2 ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Now the phone boots into Froyo successfully and registers on my carrier's network (Telus, for the record, and it's a Telus Desire). I can send texts and make calls, but the phone won't initiate a data connection.
Flashing procedure:
I flashed the 5.09.00.20 Radio ROM found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464&highlight=radio+rom
I wiped both cache and apps/user data.
I then flashed the Froyo ROM.
Any ideas? Are some radio ROMs not compatible with my network perhaps? Did I miss a step?
...yeah, didn't put APNs in. Silly me.
Hi all I am from the epic forums but I recently rooted an Evo for a friend so he could install wireless tether on it. I used the Autoroot 2.5 method and everything went perfect. I tested wireless tether and it worked fine so thinking I did a good job I gave it back to him that night.
Except there's a problem, since the phone is rooted I am not able to make and recieve ANY phone calls. If you call the Evo your phone will ring once and hang up. If I make a call on the rooted Evo, it rings a few times then says due to Error 16, you are not able to make or recieve any phone calls. Then it promptly transfers you straight to a Sprint Tech rep. I asked the rep for more information on what error 16 is and he said it due to "software updates" that makes the phone not be recognized by sprints network, and it something only THEY can fix. I hung up.
Anyway what I'm thinking is, the whole root went fine, except when the AutoRoot script installed the Sprint Lovers rom and Radio updates. (Why on earth does it do that?) I'm thinking that's what caused the error 16. Has anyone ever even heard of error 16 (and by searching and googling the answer is no), do you have anyway to remedy, or what is the simplest way to go back to stock and RE-ROOT an evo WITHOUT custom rom and custom radio?
Thanks!!
1. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever ; Scroll down to the FAQs, then download the unrevoked s-on zip. This places the security back on your phone, because rooting makes it s-off, and if s-on, quickest way to tell your phone was rooted.
2. Flash that file from recovery, then boot back into the bootloader [vol+down while turning phone on] and verify until its s-on.
3. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19699565/3.70 RUU Zip.zip ; rename that file to PC36IMG, place on the root of your sdcard [not in a folder] then flash it in the bootloader. When the scan that normally does nothing, it'll detect that file. Apply the update then reboot. That's a stock 3.70 firmware file, it'll take you back to stock, unrooted, s-on.
DO NOT TAKE THE OTA UPDAT AFTER UNROOTING. You should be on 2.2, then re-root.
Quick and easy > use unrevoked, download windows drivers, go.
Ahh thanks for replying but 1 issue...
Before you replied, I restored the Evo to stock with "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed.exe". So now I am on a stock system with no recovery, but I still have S-OFF and no recovery to flash the S-ON tool (I'm assuming that's what the phone with the red exclamation point means).
How do I get the S-ON without a custom recovery and when Unrevoked3 won't give me root again?
Thanks so much!!
EDIT: Ok so I flashed Amon_RA back on by renaming it to PC36IMG and running that through hboot. I also flashed S-ON so that's all good... I'm gonna try running that file to go back to stock and seeing if error 16 has gone away. Will update!
Ok so regretfully even AFTER I turned S-ON, flashed back to stock, NO ROOT, the phone stills gives error 16 when dialing it. And only the sprint rep can fix that. Unfortunately they want to speak to the account holder, and he doesn't speak english. Why oh whyyy... measly thanks your way.
I'm sorry that it didn't work, hopefully you can translate between him and the account holder?
I'm getting the same error 16. It has nothing to do with root or ROM. Everything worked last night. Didn't change a thing and today I have no calls and can't send text. I can revive and email just fine. I'm typing this from the phone on 3g. Ill update when I get it figured out.
Have him do a profile and PRI update, sometimes that's needed when flashing between ROMs. If that doesn't do anything then it's most likely something on Sprint's end.
I am trying to get S-Off on my phone. It's a Verizon Incredible 2, but it's now on PagePlus instead of Verizon.
In order to achieve S-Off with Revolutionary, I need 2.2.3. When I try and do an OTA update on my phone, I get an error ('SERVICE UNAVAILABLE Check for Software Update under Settings when service is available'). I am assuming this is because it is trying to check for an update though Verizon and this is Pageplus.
Am I out of luck or is there any way I can get 2.2.3 on here?
I found my answer. I ran the 'downgrade' tool. I saw that this whole time but I have been reluctant to run it since I was upgrading, not downgrading. But I ran it and it worked. Thanks!
Okay I have an issue I havent ran across yet. My friends DInc is S-off, was 2.3.4 but
downgraded and then rooted, and put a new ROM on (Ice Cream Sense 1.3) and now
he cannot get signal from the radio whatsoever. It shows bars but no 3G, even when
he goes to place a call it wont go through. He is using the 2.15.10.07.07 radio and
still no luck. Did *22899 and *228 numerous times with no luck. Now went back to
stock ROM and still no reception at all. He has wifi connectivity though but thats all.
Any ideas ? Thanks in advance!
The only thing I could figure to work would be to RUU back to froyo and then reroot. The RUU should reset whatever bug there is and by going back to froyo you can reroot quickly with unrevoked.
Having two MAJOR ISSUES with my phone.
-Cannot get any service on my phone. I believe it has something to do with roaming. When I call a wrong number it says something about "Verizon Wireless"
-Some letters like the letter "s" on the keyboard does not submit. Also on some letters/numbers on the keyboard pop-up it will log in a different letter or number. Some text boxes I cannot click on and type.
Basically my friend did not have time to root my phone and simply told me to follow some directions and it ended up messing up my EVO 4G. I was working on getting revolutionary and something got messed up. I then tried to put on Cyanogenmod and it worked extremely quirky and that's when all the problems arose.
We ended up putting several ROMs on it and they all made it constantly bootloop.
Eventually I found a way to get it to its stock RUU rom and it still messes up. I am in constant roaming with Verizon which doesn't allow me to get service most places I go. So basically my phone is useless as a phone.
Also, certain areas of my phone screen when pressed does not work. For instance i cannot ever type the letter "s" or even activate the text box to put in names for new contacts.
Anybody know how I can get it back to using Sprint towers with no roaming and to be able to enter in all numbers and letters entry via keyboard and text etc? I basically want it to be completely stock and downloading the RUU stock ROM didn't do it all they way unfortunately.
I would eventually like to get FRESH ROM installed after I get this figured out so anybody with good directions or tutorials please share!
