Alright i have been waiting fir Froyo to come out and if it does today how will it affect my phone? My phone is only rooted and doesnt have a custom kernel or rom. Will this ota simply wipe the root and leave my phone alone ir will it seriously damage my phone?

It will wipe root and close the hole used to root unless you have s-off

It will wipe root, the hole used to root may not be definitely closed. But most likely.

Given that the hole was closed in the leaked 2.2's, I think it's pretty safe to assume it will be closed in the official 2.2.
It was was closed on the EVO.

I am rooted running cm6, but I was just wondering if installing the ota froyo update when it comes out will brick my phone or if it will just got back to being stock.

Both are a possibility, but bricking isn't likely
It is probable, almost definite, however that you will lose root
Also something to remember is that if you lose root from the OTA (VERY VERY likely) it is also very likely that current rooting techniques will not work to re-root your phone so you may be stuck stock for a while (could be weeks+)

This will be the case if you lose root. The root for 1.47 used a vulnerability in flash lite if I'm not mistaken, and Froyo uses flash 10.1. Might be wrong, but that's what I'd assume.
is it even possible to perform the OTA update while using CM6?

Someone flashed me to 4.1.1 and told me not to do the OTA update when I get it and I am unsure his reasoning. I have just received the OTA update and am hesitant to do so cause he told me I shouldn't this is my build.

Please let me know if I should accept the OTA or not I am very noob when it comes to this stuff and thanks
Maybe he rooted your phone too, and didn't want the update to break root.

Is that the only reason not to accept the OTA, he did root it but that can always be redone. If I accept it I wont loose my data saved on my phone will I? I shouldn't I would think

The update won't install. Its best to just flash a rooted version of said update.

Root doesn't prevent OTA updates from installing. However, installing the update will unroot the phone unless you use something like CWM which can keep root for you.

I tried the OTA but it shows an android with a Red sign in his belly. So basically I want to get my phone back to where I can get updates straight from Google and I don't need my phone rooted. Is this possible? If so I need instructions lol Much appreciated!
So I just got my Note 2 yesterday and I cant stay away from rooting it, need it to remove few bloatwares and get rid of ads.
Whats the best method out?
-Flash via odin + triangle away?(which I feel is safest)
-Exploit apk
I read that the camera breaks after using the exploit apk so I am thinking of staying away from it.
Not planning for flashing CWM for now.
What do you'll say? Dont be harsh on me, it happens with everyone who gets a new phone
Odin.
Galaxy Note 2 Toolkit is the easiest way IMO.
Then use the exploit fix after as otherwise you have a massive security hole in your system. You can disable it to use the camera + there's no certainty your camera will actually stop working, depends on your ROM.

by far the easiest and cleanest and safest is the ExynosAbuse option! the only thing it does is to inject su binary and install SuperSu which you ca easily remove later by simply choosing 'Full unroot' in its options. easy does it, no restarts, no nothing. in 10 seconds you're rooted and back unrooted. the camera may break if you try to fix the exploit with that application but rooting is safe and clean!
I used to have the auto-root installed with Odin and it did increase my custom flash counter, showed my status as Custom instead of Official and Device showed as Modified so no OTA or KIES updates for me. no, the above option with ExynosAbuse certainly doesn't do that
There are no benefits to OTA or Kies when official f/w always gets leaked and tweaked on here before Samsung roll it out
...and you should only be concerned about flash counter for warranty purposes, but then in the EU rooting doesn't affect your warranty anyway

Hmm, really? Rooting is not a warranty issue in EU? I didn't know that well, going further i found this: http://piana.eu/root maybe it explains well enough what's all the fuss about rooting. well, I bow to EU for that sort of law! I am goin g to share that, thanx a lot for opening my eyes!
About ExynosAbuse I meant it doesn't increment custom flash counter and doesn't set uztom statuses. It's very clean.

Hello guys
Im new to Samsung, bought my phone a month ago and love it to be honest. The problem is dont know most of things on android and samsung. been looking at the forum hours and hours and learnt most of it from you.
I want to know if rooting is any good? why would you root your device or why wouldnt you? advantages and disadvantages?
Is it easy to do it? (as Im new dont wanna brick my phone) I have seen that if you root your phone your warranty will be avoid. If you unroot will it be still avoided?
Hope my questions are clear.
Hi and welxome to xda. Rooting basically gives you full rights over your phone and breaks most barriers put in place. Hands down the best thing about rooting your phone is that it gives you the ability to install a custom rom which improves on the current rom (the systen you are interacting with)
It is really easy to root a note2, i suggest you read the stickys-they have a guide for it.
Lastly the only downside is that you can brick ur phone if anything is DONE without reading the instructions. Or flashing something that is not in a N7100 forum.
And it voids warantee, but there is a workaround (traingleaway, search it )
Hope i answered your question

Thanks for you response mate. Whats the quickest and easiest and safest root ? Like iphone jailbreaks are so easy all you need to do is plug your phone in and press the jailbreak button and after 2 3 minutes all done. Is there any program or software like that?
I suggest you before rooting do a bit of research on why you need to root rather than root it "because you can" as you read rooting has it drawbacks specially for noobs.
If you can live without some specific feature only available through rooting, don't root avoid a headache.

Where can you find instructions to unroot a note 2 which has been rooted using CF-auto-root.

Haven't rooted yet. Found many instructions for the easy cf-auto-root but not much on unrooting, which may be needed for OTA updates or warranty checks.
Anyways you may wanna look into rooting after finding some uses for it. Otherwise it may be an unnecessary risk. There is a lot of customisation and functionality available using the stock rom and market apps alone.

you can unroot (rooted with cf autoroot) by supeSU (you will get it by rooting)setting menu
OR
by simply flashing stock ROM with odin will unroot device
(In both case you should have to reset counter while you are having root, to claim warranty)

Does unrooting using superSU require restoring factory settings or anything? Or does it do it cleanly?
I want to be able to update through OTA.
Sent from my GT-N7100
factory reset won't need, cosmetically you won't see any rooting sign.
But regarding OTA, really its weired
you never can say surely, i have seen who have unrooted + factory reset, even they fails to install update (though even getting update)
so be prepare to flash using odin, if you don't get OTA.
You need to factory flash via Odin and then use triangle away to reset the flash counter that should allow you to update OTA.

I just want to be absolutely sure, so here goes. I am on stock, rooted 4.1.1 at the moment. If I just let AT&T run the 4.3 update, I can still keep/reroot root, I just can't go back to 4.1.1 correct?

Yeah, that's correct. If you go stock 4.3, via the OTA update, you will lose root initially. You can, however, always re-root. The most effective method to root after 4.3 is to Odin TWRP, boot to recovery and then flash SuperSu and the knox remover tool via recovery. Install SuperSU from the play store and run it to update the binary when prompted.
Won't let me thank you on the mobile app, so I'll do it when I get home from work, thank you! Wonder what happened to the premium version I paid for. Took my money and ran lol

Installing the OTA 4.3 update will also install Knox. Rooting will trip the Knox counter which will void your warranty. If you have no warranty left, tripping knox will now be a problem.
You should also know that Knox can sometimes interfere with obtaining root.

So one person saying you can root no problem, another one saying you might be able to root, might not? This is why there should be a very clear sticky at the top of the forums for everyone to read about just 4.3 and all there is to know about it. Because maybe's are pretty terrible when it comes to flashing/unlocking/rooting/bricking your device.
I don't care about warranty, I'm getting the S5 shortly, I just want to be able to root after the update, is that possible with lets just say the Auto root program, or is it not possible? By possible, I mean I won't have to go out and trade 7 cows for a horse and plow a 600 acre field with said horse.
EDIT: I think I've fingered it out, Thanks for the help fellas.

There is no question about it. You can root even after 4.3 OTA. I've done it half a dozen times. Audit is right that you will trip the warranty but since this isn't an issue ...
The usual methods of rooting including CF Auto-Root don't always work and the method I've used with success each time is Option 2 in the thread below. The knox removal script disables knox ...
