[Q] Unbranding unlocked Orange desire - Desire General

Hi, I have a sim-unlocked Orange Desire (I don't use it on Orange) with a branded 2.1 firmware, and I'd like to unbrand it with 2.2 stock firmware. Will that remove the sim-unlock that I have now?
Tnx in advance.

It shouldn't. I got an orange branded Desire from ebay on saturday morning, which was also locked to orange. I sim-unlocked it and rooted, and then flashed LeeDroid. My phone is still sim-unlocked.
Obviously I can't tell you what happens when flashing official firmware via RUU, because I haven't done that, but when flashing a custom ROM the sim-unlock remains the same. Hope this helps

If it locks it you can re use the original unlock code to unlock the phone again. If you don't have it then ask the seller you bought the phone from as they may still have it on record.

i unlocked orange branded locked desire this eve without any probs thanks god

I just can confirm this: I've got an orange.fr branded desire over ebay and it was unlocked. Flashing froyo on it and rooting it before went well. No problems at all.

Tnx guys, I'll try it and see how it goes.

Unlocked Vodafone Desire

Hi All
I am going to flash my desire to the stock HTC rom but before I do will the phone be simlocked back to Vodafone or will it stay unlocked. I am using an orange sim at the moment
Appreciate any response
Some say it gets locked some say it's fine. Luck of the draw tbh. This is why I always get unbranded phones

Any unbranded firmware that also unlocks phone?

I have a T-Mobile UK HTC Desire - phone is locked to T-Mobile and the operator logo shows upon boot.
Is it possible to both unbrand and unlock the phone by replacing the firmware with some kind of unbranded HTC Desire (UK?) firmware?
Thanks.
PS. I recently did this to my Samsung Galaxy S - followed online instructions to download unbranded equivalent firmware; it removed the operator logo and, though the phone wasn't SIM-locked seemed to rejig some original Vodafone settings so that I can now successfully send T-Mobile MMS.
No you cant, you will have to buy an unlock code..

[Q] Do I need to SIM Unlock??

Hello All,
When I first got my desire back in April from Orange UK, I had the default Eclair build. I rooted and moved to a Froyo custom ROm and Radio and found I was locked out of my own network as the ROM was of course De-Branded. At the time I paid and got an unlock code.
I recently had to send my phone back for Warranty repair with HTC and they have returned it to me, once again with the current Orange ROM/Radio versions and having changed some inards, I now have a new IMEI number too. I have so far tried two unlock sites but both came back with a "sorry we don't have a code for that IMEI" and so I am very wary of putting another custom ROM on my device in case I get SIM locked out of my own network again.
My question is this:
I vaguely remember that the issue with Orange users being locked out of their own network when using the debranded froyo ROm's was due to changing the Radio (as we needed a 5.x.x.x radio when moving from ecalir to froyo). Since my current Radio is 32.48.00.32U_5.10.05.30, if I get a custom ROM without Radio and carry on using the one I have (already Froyo compatible) will I be ok or will I get simlocked again?
Many thanks in advance
David
Strange, I always thought ROM had nothing to do with your SIM lock... Maybe it depends on what phone you have because I have SIM unlocked my HTC magic after owning it a year long and then after that installed many different ROMs without being SIM locked again.

You don't need to unlock anymore. Newer radios don't lock orange desires anymore.
I did the exact same thing as you, when I got my second orange desire I didn't need to unlock it.

Thanks mercinary, does this mean I can choose the radio update with the relevant custom ROM or should I keep the Radio on the device that is there currently?

That's generally the case, but in the past flashing a non orange froyo radio on a locked orange desire would lock you out of all networks...including orange. It has not been an issue afaik since orange released froyo, all radios after this point did not lock orange phones.
I wish we knew more about this bug because if the radio can manipulate the phones lock state maybe a custom radio can be made to unlock your phone...that's a big maybe though, and I don't know what I'm talking about

Its up to you. If you've got froyo now the radio will work fine with any rom. I've never had any trouble with my new orange desire, flashed loads of radios.
I think i would have a word with HTC, your phone was unlocked when you sent it to HTC for repair, so it should be unlocked on return to you, even if they have changed the mainboard.

RUU Help

Need to send my phone back as the screen is cracked and I get a replacement.
However I'm unsure what RUU to get. I got the phone off vodafone. However there is no branding on the phone and when I startup there is no vodafone logo. So while I think the phone is unbranded, the only RUU i can find that matches my baseband and software version is a vodafone one.
Should I jsut try to use the vodafone RUU and does it require a gold card?
You had a vodafone rom before you rooted it? Then you have to install the Vodafone ruu (from your country).

That is not necessarily true. Check here: http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Bravo.
If it's not there flash a generic one. Mine was network locked but not branded.
Just a quick question before you go to all the trouble..
Most carriers will not provide a warranty replacement for phones with physical damage like cracked screen.. might wana check that first

[Q] One X with Vodafone branding reflash with original RUU?

Hi Guys!
I have one short question. Today I received my new One X, on power on the phone I saw that this pohone has a vodafone branding. That's not nice and not really acceptable for me.
Now my question:
Is it possible simply flash it with the original hTc Europe RUU (RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.20.401.1_Radio_ 1.1204.71.08_release_249238_signed.exe) to get an unbranded phone? Or is it not possible to flash it without unlocking the bootloader? I won't flash any custom ROM.
Greetz
Dr. MaRV
Without S-OFF it can't be done at present - you'd have to go custom to remove the branding
Whatever you do, make sure you download the RUU for your phone now (Vodafone DE) so you can always go back if needed
Thank mate for that fast answer.
@DR.Marv
And, did the flah work, or...
Having the same issue with a Vodaphone branded OneX
