My usb port is messed up, and I'm going to need it repaired.
I upgraded to the leaked OTA and the new radio, and I'm wondering what I need to do to get this warranty work done with no problems. Do i need to downgrade the radio, go back to an unrooted 2.1 ROM and remove clockworkmod? If so, a general guide would be appreciated.
Thanks
I used these instructions to revert from the leaked OTA and downgrade HBOOT: http://androidforums.com/all-things...16-how-revert-back-earlier-version-hboot.html

OK,
I used the Simple Root method to unlock my EVO. I'm clueless as to how this benefits me and what to do with the rooted phone now.
Of course Sprint released the OTA 2.2 update just days after I did this and I just want to return my phone the the stock ROM. I've tried several methods and none work. Everything I do leaves me with the Superuser Permissions still on phone and I cannot complete the OTA 2.2 update. I don't want a custom ROM, I just want the stock OTA ROM.
Someone please help with a step by step of how to remove the Clockwork Mod boot system and return my phone to out of box condition so I can get up to date.
Thanks (I hope).
Flashing the stock RUU maybe??!?!?!?! lol
tried that
Yes That would seem logical. I tried that but it doesn't get rid of the boot system which is preventing me from getting the OTA 2.2 update. I want to revert completely.
Admittedly I don't really understand all this rooting business so it does me little good to have my phone rooted.
I can revert my ROM but it doesn't get rid of the clockwork mod boot system and therefore I still cannot complete the OTA update. Every time I try the update it starts to install and then goes to a page with a caution triangle and just freezes there and I have to pull the battery and reboot and I'm at the same place I was before.
I don't understand how to flash a ROM anyhow.
You can download the 3.26.651.6 RUU .exe from this mirror
http://www.mediafire.com/?3z4zbt3vco1ijs7
USB your phone to your computer and run that exe. You will end up with the same stock froyo as the the OTA update will ultimately give you.
If you used the official 1.47 RUU, and it completed properly, then you should be completely stock. It wipes all the partitions and puts you back to stock. You can also look for the stock .6 Froyo rom that's been rooted. I know I've seen it around here somewhere. Grab the one that is Odexed, as it hasn't been tampered with at all except to add SU permissions.
Hello everyone,
I installed the 2.2 incredible ROM leaked in July. Now the official 2.2 is out and I assume that it would be wise to update to it. I am sure this is quite obvious for some but I am not sure what the exact process for my update should be. I updated the radio to the 2.x one in order to update to the leaked 2.2 ROM. I had thought that attempting to install this twice bricked a phone so I am unsure as to whether I can safely just load the OTA 2.2 ROM without bricking my phone.
Thanks
flashing the same* radio twice will brick your phone- yep. check Berzerker7's -The ultimate get back to stock- thread for instructions.
Good luck.
If you have a 2.xx radio you should be able to flash any 2.2 Rom using clockwork
Hello all, after reading todays news about HTC giving up efforts to update the desire, I have decided to update on my own.
The trouble is, my desire is a POS. I am not able to do the unrevoked way because my desire will just go into a reboot loop.
Is there an alternate way of doing it?
I assume that I must be rooted to get this firmware on?
Do I really need this s-off thing? I do not plan to stay rooted. Once i load the new firmware i will unroot.
Thank.
Ok, firstly POS? Secondly, what firmware?
When your rooted you can't simply just unroot. To unroot you have to flash an RUU, which in turn wipes all the data off your phone and updates everything back to manufacturer stock. I don't see what your trying to achieve here.
I am only rooting to get the new ruu. So, I assume that it will then be unrooted no?
POS is piece of sh..
I have the stock 2.2 fm.
You don't need to root to use an RUU. You can happily flash an RUU all day. The current RUU is Android 2.2, software number 2.49.405.5.
i may need to go to bone stock for warranty purposes and then go s-on. if i flash the latest ruu (2.3.4) and then go to s-on (how do i go to s-on?) then can i get back to s-off if they actually fix my piece and send it back?
No. S-on via Clockworkmod, then flash 2.2 RUU. Then, when you want to root, use unrevoked
No need to go to newest stock, any stock with s-on should work. If they send you back an updated phone you can still downgrade and s-off from 2.3.4. Search forum for s-off and downgrade. It's doable - i've done it with help from here.
Just get the phone back to stock s-on. It doesn't matter if its 2.2 or 2.3 as long as its stock. They will send you a new phone that is updated already. Then to re root just downgrade and use unrevoked3

oh so with s-on i can downgrade using an ruu and then unrevoked it? i thought some updates could block root forever a.k.a. u cant downgrade anymore to unrevoke. guess i was wrong. gonna submit my claim to square trade soon. hope they send me an upgraded phone lol.. rezound would be nice.
Ya that would be nice but you will either get the original incredible or the incredible 2. Any ways, the original 2.2 downgrade should work. I have tried it my self and I don't see where people have problems. I bricked my phone really bad and had to install the actual bootloader. But point is I had no problems downgrading and rooting again. Let me know if it worked for you. It should since you have a bootloader still.

Okay, so I'm considering flashing back to a pure stock RUU, but have a few questions I'm hoping people can help me with. I've searched and read around, but with rooting and flashing the answers aren't always exactly clear.
1) I currently have S-OFF and root (via Revolutionary). I assume flashing the RUU will remove the root (since RUU's don't have root in them, since they're completely stock), but would my S-OFF remain?
2) My recovery is currently ClockworkMod. Would that remain after flashing the RUU?
3) If I return to the most recent RUU (2.3.4, version 5.10.xxxblahblah I think), is there a method to regain root? I originally rooted after the first GB update to the phone, so I'm not sure if that got blocked with the most recent OTA.
4) Once back on the RUU, would I get OTA updates again?
Many thanks in advance. Sorry if these have been answered elsewhere, I haven't been able to piece it all together.
