I have searched for similar problems but no one has written yet.
Yesterday I noticed that all of my contacts were linked to about 15-20 contacts that I never linked them to and one of the contacts was adding an additional number to call them at, "6". So I spent about 4 hours of my time fixing it only to find out that over night it happened again. This is so annoying, is there anyway to force the phone to stop auto linking to other links?
Menu > settings > accounts & sync
Deselect accounts you don't want contacts sync.
Disable synch with fb, twitter, etc

Ok I will try that

I keep my contacts on Googles servers only, there are none saved to the SIM card or phone as such.
I just changed ROM, restored using Titanium Backup, and now only three contacts show and they are ones that I added manually using the phone. It has synced to Google, but the other contacts just don't show (they are still on Google when I log in via the web).
Any ideas about this?
ta.
Have a look in Menu->Settings->Accounts & Sync - for the email account you are using, is "Sync contacts" checked?
Also, assuming you are using a Sense-based ROM, go into People and select Menu->View - again, check that you have checked "Google".
Regards,
Dave
Hmm, I tried this and it didn't work, but I did eventually figure it out so will post it here in case anybody else has this problem:
After doing what is mentioned in the previous post I went into Settings, then applications, then manage applications, pressed "all" then found 'Contacts Storage' Press Force Stop, then Clear Data, then restart the phone.

I too wonder why sync is not working. My settings are so as you advised in your post + autosync is active, but still 0 google contacts in "people" (i thought my phone contacts would be transferred to my google acc. Am i wrong?)

Open People, press the Menu button, press View, is Google ticked?
Yes.. it is ticked and in accounts and sync menu google account is enabled for all three items; contacts, gmail and calendar. Gmail and Calendar sync working w/o prob but contacts not syncing at all..

I have not been receiving my email notifications for the last few days. Only when I refresh or go into settings and hit "sync now" do I get the notification of a new email in my gmail account. I tried clearing data, force stop, and even uninstalling updates (rolling back to 2.3.2 from 2.4.3.1) and still no go!
Anyone else have this issue? Got a fix for me?
EDIT:
I have see this issue in other forums, but I haven't found a fix. Just problems.
do you have autosync turned on for your google account?
settings --> accounts and sync. in here make sure that google is set to autosync, otherwise, you will have to manually refresh in order to get your gmail in.
Yes I do have autosync turned on for all possible accounts including Google accounts.
oh... thats weird.
I've kept my notification disabled for gmail. I just now enabled it and tested and it worked fine. I'll leave it on for a bit and see if that changes.
OK, so I setup the "Mail" app on the phone to sync to my Gmail account, which worked. But the Gmail app still wouldn't sync. Then after a few hours I erased the "Mail" account/sync since it didn't fix the Gmail problem and I really dislike the "Mail" app. A few hours after that I got 6 text messages from "VZWNMN" in rapid succession that were as follows:
"5"
"66"
"5"
"7"
"1"
"1"
And now my Gmail is syncing! Weird, huh?
well at least problem solved huh? haha.. although thats just really weird.

Yeah, I really dislike the mail app and it does have this thing about trying to set up sms notifications that annoys me. Which is why I don't use it.
In any case, I left gmail notifications on and haven't had a problem with it. Maybe something just went wonky for a bit. I was gonna try suggesting disabling notifications, save it, exit app, then re-enable it, then test, but now it seems to be okay
Yea my gmail works fine.

I had sync issues every once in a while with my Eris. Usually I just cleared the data in 'gmail storage' and 'gmail' in manage applications.

When I run the official Twitter app and check the box to notify me on mentions and DM's the settings revert back to unchecked. Anyone find away around this? I'm on 4.0.4
I'm having the same issue on GummyNex 0.9.0. Stupid twitter app lol.

Check your Sync Settings under Settings>Accounts & Sync. You should have it on for twitter.
Also, if you limit background data, or manually toggle the sync settings it will affect the settings in the app.

I've done all of that, everything was working good before I used this version of twitter.

I don't use the official Twitter app, but I noticed that even the web version has trouble with the DM notification.
It kept reverting my last received message back to unread although I had read it ... a bunch of times!
Hi somehow since few days now my calendar doesn't want to sync anything from past events a part for last month. When I go to web version of the calendar all the events are there even from 2yrs back but ics doesn't want to sync it somehow. Is it just me or does anyone have the same problem???

Check to see if "hide declined events" is checked under settings > general settings. It should be the first option.

Nope had it like that all the time .... all entries disappeared today everything was fine let's say yesterday ..

Probably a long shot... but how did you set up your time zone?
For example I had calendar widget problems when fetching from network, but manually it worked fine
Try clearing the data from the calendar app and then sync it again. I had that problem with a different phone and clearing data worked for me.

Timezone is on default settings in calendar on phone it's network provided.
Clearing data from calendar doesn't help.
If I have an entry on calendar via web browser its there and I can clearly see it. It doesn't show in the android calendar, however, if I add something in the same day through the web browser this and the previous even in that day will show in the phone. So wtf is wrong with it???

I had a problem where my several of my Google calendar just wouldn't appear no matter what (manually triggering auto-sync, uncheck and recheck Calendar sync, etc.), and toggling around the settings even caused ALL my calendars to disappear at one point.
Yesterday I finally figured out to force-stop and wipe the data for Calendar and Calendar Storage, and then letting Calendar resync. Works brilliantly.

I imported all of my contacts from google, and now im stuck with 3 duplicates from most of my contacts. I tried several apps but they dont seem to do anything. I got 1200 contacts right now, any ideas how I can merge them and see only 300-400?
I literally tried all of the free apps in the playstore, contact analyzer etc etc. I don't like replacing my contacts app.

Login to your gmail, using a computer. Click on contacts -> more -> find & merge duplicates
Is this an issue with your Google account or does it duplicate while syncing or somethiing? Assuming the former, try:
Go to https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#contacts ->More->Find duplicates and merge.
Does that work?
It works within google, but i still have all the contacts i do not have in my google account, manual syncing didnĀ“t help.
Any suggestions on how to do it on my phone alone would help.
Oke, this is how i did it: export to vcard, import to google, remove duplicates, export to vcard, delete all contacts on phone, import vcard, sync with facebook and share with google
SOLVED, Thanks!
