Need help with figuring out why SU isn't on my phone - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I just ran the unrEVOked 3.1 tool and it did give me Clockwork mod recovery but I don't have the super user application in my app drawer. Is there something else I need to do?
Edit: I ran it again and now it worked. Anyway I can delete this thread?

Did you happen to notice when you open rom manager when you scroll down the screen it says FIX PERMISSION ISSUES? lol Try there first then report back of course reboot then try
Yes.
Did that to no avail...
I should have mentioned that...
I am going to just to right to manually installing a ROM and see if that works..then install the Rom Manager and go from there.
I had this issue and had to manually flash another ROM (I chose Fresh 0.3) before it would work. Now it works regardless of which rom I have installed.

Yeah...noob mistake and I am sorry for posting in the wrong place...I installed the Bugless Beast and that fixed it for me...

Unable to Flash Latest ClockworkMod through Rom Manager

My phone is rooted, but I'm still getting the error when trying to flash the ClockworkMod Recovery through ROM Manager
'An error occurred while flashing your recovery'
I originally had an older Clockwork Recovery loaded which I think was one of the reasons it had problems. I tried to use the program to flash to RA Recovery 1.7.0.1 and then back to the latest ClockworkMod, but it wont work.
I located the latest ZIP file for the recovery
recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-supersonic.zip
I had the RA-evo-v1.7.0.1 recovery loaded, tried to install the Clockwork zip through recovery mode. Originally it loads up fine, but then when I reboot, it reverts back to the RA-evo recovery. I'm still receiving the same error in ROM Manager as it is forcing me to select the option to Flash the Recovery.
Any help would be great. I apologize if this has already been covered in another thread. I found some people that had issues, but not the exact one I am having.

Sounds like to me that Rom manager is not getting superuser permission. Flash Su 2.1.zip or if u are using frozen eclair with jit. U need to flash 2.2 Su.zip. Has happened to me before.

When I go to the Superuser Permissions app, BusyBox and Titanium Backup both are shown, but Rom Manager isn't there. Should it be?
I'm still a newbie, so I'm not familiar with SU 2.1.zip, is that a superuser file to install I would assume?
I haven't had an issue with anything else except Rom Manager which is odd. I'm using the free version currently if that matters at all. I wanted to get this working with the free one first, and then if it goes well I was going to donate and get the full version.

Connect to a wifi and try again. That was an issue
for me the other day.
WiFi did it for me..
The above WiFi comment was right in my instance. I kept getting the error message until I enabled WiFi, then it went thru perfectly.
(Strange though...I don't know why that would affect it?)
Just wanted to add that wifi worked for me too. I don't get it either, but I'm happy.
Glad I found this, wifi worked. Strange
Sounds like a server side issue of some kind for which you would have had no control over.

[Q] Did I break my root?

So in the intrest of using ap2sd on the 3rdsense rom, (I was curious), I used rom manager to try to partition my sd card. After format I had a heck of a time trying to replace the update.zip for clockwork(because of the 3rd Sense java problem).
Now after flashing to Wired Cyanogenmod I can't seem to be able to use apps that run privilaged commands. I have superuser permission, but what other folders may be missing?
Btw, sorry in advance to all those who are gonna hate for people learning and screwing up.
Oh and if some one could help me with a bit of instrustion on how and what I can use terminal for since my computer decided to die, id be very greatful. Thanks fourm.

I can help you in that field, I don't have a usb cable for my phone. I just download flashable zips right to my phone with the browser and flash them via clockwork, and I find ways to work around adb, such as creating flashable zips for installing to /system, and using titanium to force remove system apps via a recovery exploit.
Now, for your root problem, were you ever able to flash clockwork recovery and get into it? Or can you use ROM manager to do it? Because if you can flash the clockwork update.zip then you are most likely rooted. If you can flash self-signed zips and flash rooted ROMs and all that, I can't see how you wouldn't be rooted. MIGHT be a ROM error, maybe try making a nandroid backup and flash something like cyanogenmod6.1.1 or CR_mod and see if root works on those ROMs. If it does, then it's a ROM issue, if it doesn't, then you should try unrooting and rerooting.
thank you

Busy Box - NO ROOT??

OK, since search is down, I'm going to be a noob and ask something I know has been asked before...
I installed and ran V6 Supercharger yesterday, but wasn't completely sure if it worked properly, so I decided to start again. So I went back to tutorial and started again, first trying to re-install Busybox 1.18.2, as directed. I got message "unable to load busybox onto /sys/xbin". Odd.
So I backed out and opened Busybox installer again, this time got error message "No Root Access!". Tried that a few times, but same message. So I opened Titanium, No Root, MyBackUpRoot...NO ROOT!! 4Ext is also reporting errors, although it does accept SU Permissions...
Ummm...help??
E: Build.prop Editor, ROM manager, RAM Manager Pro, Root Explorer, ES Explorer all granted SU Permissions...
I think I know what may have happened, although don't know how or exactly why... Thinking busybox.apk has been deleted from /system somehow.
I am able to boot to recovery and doing nandroid now, so I obviously still have root. Going to wipe Dalvic and reflash ROM.
Fingers crossed.
Nope.
Did fresh download of Runnymede 6041 and reflashed.
Still same problem. Titanium does not see root, neither does busybox or MbR.
Really not happy now.
Edit: If anyone reading this has experience, where would I find the Busybox.apk, to verify if it was missing and how would I replace??
Have you try to clear superuser data in settings-applications-manage applications ?
I had this problem when I restore data for superuser using mybackup root.
Also check how much free system space that you have before downloading a new busybox. Maybe the free space is not enough for the new busybox.
Download program called visionary and install it. Open it then press (temproot) then keep going on what u doing. Make sure that u having 2.2 android or custom ROM. I did that and update worked as it should with no problem

Thanks for replies guys.
@mahmoud, want to point out I am root and s-off with custom ROM etc. Not sure if temproot will help me. I'm pretty sure the original Busybox file that is installed during unrEVOked has gone missing. Is that what happened for you too??
As I say, I can still boot to recovery and most SU apps are working...just not those that need Busybox.
@ckp, I will try that this evening. Cheers.

Aaaaaahhhhh ok. Sorry I misunderstood u. What happened to me is that I wanted to root my phone and I couldn't use unrEVOked
Coz it always show me CID MISSING so I downloaded 3 apps and rooted my phone without computer. Visionary, superuser and ROM manager. I had to update busybox in superuser app. But it didn't update until I did temproot using visionary app. I don't know if that will help u or no. But nothing will happen if u downloaded visionary and temproot then try busybox.. let me know if u had any thing. Goodluck

AFAIK, Titanium uses its own Busybox, so I would suggest uninstalling Titanium, reflashing Busybox (I don't know if it's possible), then reflashing Titanium. I hope this will help.
Thanks Coempi, but I did that already... Somehow, whatever tells Busybox or Titanium that I have root, is not doing that.
Dunno wtf just happened, but I uninstalled Titanium again, rebooted (again) and installed Busybox straight up... Everything back to normal, but nfi what I did.
I guess sometimes its the simple things, yeah...??
Thanks for help all.

Cant remove bloatware?

Seems i cant remove bloatware with titanium backup...it says the app in question is deleted, but it persists in the market and when I reboot its back. not sure what im doing wrong help is appreciated
rooted with unrevoked 3.22. s-on/ have not downgraded
I thought you needed to be s-off to remove system apps? Don't quote me on that, that's merely an assumption.

You need root (su binary) and superuser app and a properly installed busybox (for mounting read-write and other tools with titanium backup). Titanium should ship with busybox tho. S-OFF just lets you flash unsigned code from HBOOT. Rezound just now got s-off but they could install custom roms and remove bloat.
it's running some weird/old superuser
try to update superuser from market - package file was not signed correctly
try to run update helper - force close
try to delete (any) apk from /system/app with root explorer get error
great. tried flashing superuser through recovery and now im stuck in bootloop. probably should have backed up with titanium when i had the chance

Im sorry. It may have been better to let you assume s-off is required so you would back up properly.

yeah :/ anyways i did a backup from recovery to maybe save something...where does it save to?
is S-OFF needed to flash hboot and radio? or can that be done via recovery?
edit: ugh i got CM9 kang loaded and working great...only problem is i *still* cant remove system apps (movie studio, dev tools, etc) wtf
maybe try renaming the bloat .bak with root browser.

Recovery backups save to your sdcard in a clockworkmod folder.
S-off is needed and the only way to flash hboots, radios, and splash screens. You also need s-off to flash recoveries thru hboot, but can also be done with unrevoked or rom manager.
Also you must be s-off to remove system apps, or anything from the /system folder or subdirectories, having root alone is not enough.

I don't 100% buy that s-off is needed to disable/remove system apps. My understanding is that S-OFF is just at the bootloader level and would not affect system. Unless it has a deeper effect than that. Read/write access should be all that's needed and you need root for that for sure.
Just my 2cents. I could be wrong. Since it seems to be the case for you guys I may be wrong here.

I finally was able to get rid of oem swype, then reinstall swype beta through the installer. I was not able to "force remove app (by recover/exploit)", i don't know what I was doing wrong. Maybe I just don't know how to use Titanium Backup well enough.
I used Titanium Backup, went to "backup/restore", scrolled down to Swype, long hold, clicked on "convert to user app", then I was able to remove it through the "Application Manager".
I haven"t tried this with other System App but it should work. I hope this helps. Good luck.
I agree with tiny, S-off shouldn't be required to delete system apps. I understand that you switched to s-off and you saw then light but is there any chance you may have changed something else while you were changing to s-off? reflashing the su-binary? switching ROMs? updating your ROM? Many of these things can also have an effect on your superuser position in life. Most ROMs are pre-rooted which means that the su-binary is already implemented into the ROM. If you updated or switched your ROM while you were in the process of switching to s-off, it is likely that you also updated the binary and gave yourself lovely superuser permissions once again. Also note that when you update using OTA and you are using stock rooted with S-ON that your phone will lose it's superuser binary in the process of updating and you wont notice the change until the next time you try to do something that involves SU. Just a few thoughts. Glad you got it fixed
You might also poke around the TB settings. I believe there's one near the bottom that removes the market link, although it should be enabled by default.
