[Q] How to stop items running - Desire General

I use my Desire for work and need very few functions to be running.
The following unwanted items keep loading:
Flickr
Peep
Facebook for HTC
Friend Stream
Footprints
How can I stop these from running (I cannot seem to delete them)
Do they affect my performance?

They won't affect your phones performance as Android manages the memory and closes unwanted apps if it needs to.
People may suggest a task killer, but they generally will decrease your battery life as they kill tasks which will just start up again, and so a circle of starting apps, closing apps begins!
To be sure of those apps not starting I'd say you should root, and install a custom rom with those apps removed.

turn off the updating feature of said apps, none of those are running on my vanilla desire, and i have the following 3 that you have
Facebook for HTC
Friend Stream
Footprints

Please let me know were this update feature is, as I cannot find it

Autostarts - opinions, settings?

Does anyone use this app? I've installed it out of curiosity and found TONS of apps that start after boot. Will pruning down this list speed up my phone at all?
I've disabled some of the apps I never use such as Mail, FM Radio, Facebook for HTC Sense, Flickr, etc. Can I go further and disable apps I DO usem but stop them starting on their own?
Some of the ones I'm thinking of are Peep, FaBook Chat, HTC Widget Downloader.
And what's Open Sense Plugin Manager?
Can I disable Bug Report? Is Rosie Utility needed since I run ADW Launcher?
Updater? DRM Protected Content Storage? Media Storage? HTC Message Uploader?
Finally, am I wasting my time with all this?!!
Why not just test it out? Try removing a few apps from start up and then reboot the phone.

Because I'm lazy and stupid, and wondered if someone else had done the hard work already, lol!
it wont stop apps starting, just stop them at boot, apps can start themseleves at any time so you will prob see all the apps running after a few mins anyway
Most apps in that list are not infact apps but widgets for apps.
I dissable everything (after boot) that I know I won't be using the widgets for.
I also dissable in "sms recieved" - Messaging, this is because I don't use stock messaging, I use handcent.
Just read all the headings, go down and dissable things you think you will never use in those situations.
If things don't play nice then you can always untick them again.

Battery life question

Yes, I use my device a lot. That said, I wanted to post my running services to see how I can reduce the load. I am running Baked Snack 1.8 and am rooted with unrevoked. I use Touchdown for email/calendaring/contacts. I recently started using Juice Defender Beta and SetCPU (only screen off profile). I can literally watch my battery percentage drop. I have done the following:
unchecked always on data
unchecked google talk
sprint only for network
I noticed that there is a "running" tab under manage applications. Here is my list of running apps (and I even try to keep it trimmed down):
android system
beautiful widgets
calendar storage (I use Touchdown for calendar)
chompsms
com.android.providers.application
com.android.providers.users
com.htc.dcs.service.stock
com.htc.provider.settings
com.htc.socialnetwork.provider
com.smithmicro.DM
contacts storage
customization settings
customization setup
DCS utility component
dialer
dialer storage
download manager
DRM Protected content
EPST
Facebook for HTC Sense (i only use Tweetdeck)
fantasy '10
Flickr (dont use)
Friend Stream (dont use)
Gmail
Google Partner setup
Google Search
Google Services Framework
Google Voice
HTC checkin Service
HTC DM
HTC IQAgent
HTC Media Uploader
HTC Message Uploader
HTC Sense
HTC weather sync provider
HTC widget download manager
Juice Defender Beta
LauncherPro
Lockbot Free
Market
Media container service
Media Storage
Messages (I use ChompSMS)
Messenger
Music
My Uploads
No Lock
Open Sense Plugin Mgr
Package Installer
PC Syncronization (I dont synch anything via PC)
PDF viewer
Peep (dont use)
People (I sync via Touchdown)
People
Rosie Utility
SetCPU
Settings
Settings Storage
Slacker (never use)
Superuser
Swiftkey
Titanium Backup
Touchdown (Android 2.0)
Tweetdeck
Voice Dialer
Voicemail
Weather Provider
Holy S#!! this seems like alot of things running at once, no?
I am guessing its your touchdown, fantasy football, or lockbot causing the problems.
The following are required by the system.
Calander storage
messages (chomp requires this)
Facebook for HTC synchs your contact photos.
I would ditch the 3 apps at the top and see how it goes.
I can't comment on the rom, I run fresh 3.3.0.1
Lockbot is brand new and I have had the same issues since I installed that yesterday. I Touchdown is my email client and I cant use stock HTC app since exchange version is little older than needed. Thanks.
CM6 with Snap 7.6 problem solved..I cant tell you how much better my Battery life is since this combo.. I tryed everything else out there second best combo was the latest Fresh rom off the newest OTA update, CM6/Snap7.6 bests Fresh by alot from what I have seen. Since I changed I get home after a full day with 20-30% battery I used to NEED a bump (the phone not me) around late afternoon before no matter what.
link please?
Try turning off your Mobile Network when you don't need it - this will save a lot of juice.

Explain...
Do you mean the intrival times? I've changed that too but still wont let my phone sleep and is always running in the background....literally causes my Juiceplotter go straight down

Yeah, that's what I meant. It defaults to like 3-5 min pooling. Not sure why yours doesn't sleep, mine does.
I run CM6 Stable w/ Snap 7.5 and am getting 24+ hours easy with my (light-moderate) usual use.

[Q] Safely disabling system/htc apps

Hi guys,
been searching and reading through the forums for quite some time, and I've heard different reports about which system apps are safe to remove (or freeze with Titanium, like I prefer to do). From what I understand, you will get error messages if you remoce HTC Twitter for example. What other cross-program dependencies are there? Anyone have a list over system apps that are safe to remove?
Thanks
Edit: running ARHD 3.2 (with sense) on buzz 1.3.8 BTW
Bumping to see if anyone has any info.
Has anyone noticed that removing a certain widget or htc apk makes the phone or other apps unstable?
For example, from what I understand, removing gtalk disables gmail. Any other examples? I'd really appreciate if someone were able to point me in the right direction. In the mean time I will nandroid my ROM and start experimenting.
One thing though: I know that the phone does a reboot for every app that you force remove through titanium, but do I need to reboot after freezing each app?
Will report back my findings when I get around to it if there's any interest..

Q: [Battery Efficiency - Roms, Apps, Tweaks]

First off I wanna ask what happened to the survey on the best rom? It was a pretty useful thread for people to check on to find out what rom would be best for their needs. Was that thread causing any conflict?
Now to my real question :
What can you guys suggest as the BEST Rom, Application or Tweak for improving SGY's battery life? I mean, at least sacrificing the LEAST amount of performance.
I just downloaded and installed a new rom, but the problem is (although its very nice, fast and all), it sucks out my battery so bad that its not even worth sacrificing battery for performance.
Can you guys give me something like -
What Rom, Apps (Battery Saver), Launcher, Widgets, Tweaks, etc, you are using and by how much your battery regulary lasts? (With regular usage of calls, messaging, browing the net, playing games and music, etc.)
Thanks a lot for your input guys.
did you try freezing unwanted background services that were running on the custom rom that you were once on??
less background services = more battery life

Already did. I went so far as to uninstall apps I didnt even use like Google Maps, Mail, etc.
Right now these are some of the things left in my cache:
Google back up transport
User Dictionary
CSC
Status bar
Google contacts sync
Software update
SyncmIDS
SNS
SamsungAppsUNA2
LogsProvider
BrcmBluetoothServices
PCWDevice
DRM content
Im not sure which ones of these that are left should I freeze.
They all auto-restart themselves, and I think my phone wouldnt function properly if I freezed them.
I don't know what custom rom should I use. Can anyone suggest me?

You can freeze the "Software update" if your not planning to update your phone via Over-The-Air upgrade and Samsung AppsUNA2 if you're not using Samsung Apps because this is part of Samsung Apps.
Just don't freeze the following
Process name | Description
DRM Content-Dont freese this process because some people reported that
they ringtones got messed up after freezing this.
Status Bar-Where you can see your notifications , Don't freeze this.
BrcmBluetoothServices-Part of Bluetooth services on our phone,Don't freeze this.
SNS-Social Network Services. This will manage your accounts like
Facebook,Twitter etc.
Google Contacts sync-Syncs your Google contacts to your Contacts , You can
disable this on Settings>Accounts & Sync>Tap on your
Google Account>Uncheck "Sync Contacts">Done !
Google Backup Transport-Unknown Description . Just don't freeze this .
LogsProvider-Unknown description - Just don't freeze this .
CSC-Contains your important network settings , Don't freeze this.
PCWDevice- Your Device
SyncmIDS-Unknown Description . Just don't freeze ..
Do i have mistakes on what to freeze and not to freeze ? , Just correct me

[Q] Options for Install ViperINC

I'm trying to figure out if there is any options which would help me out during installation of ViperINC. I know the basic options, facebook, gmail, twitter, etc. My question is more about the HTC apps. Things like music and so forth, are these apps which include the beats audio. Also, once the rom is installed, these HTC apps don't all appear, a couple do, but the vast majority are not shown in all apps. Are these widgets and not apps?
