Can someone point me in the direction of an article talking about when this update will be out? I want copy and paste really bad, it's frustrating without it.

There never was an official January update.
Though the current rumor is that it will be here by early February.
Though there is no official word since there's a back and forth with the carriers regarding certification of the update.

That is how all OSs start. We all should of known going in, but it is the best multimedia phone still.
The real update is scheduled for later this year and is called mango. Until then consider the os have done.

Do you actually understand that this "half built os" is only couple of months old? it's not even mid january yet and people are complaining about the january update!!
Im pretty sure this OS is fully built.
It could use some more features, but the OS is fully built.
WP7 is a cake fresh out of the oven. We just need to add the sprinkles. And I'm a man who loves his sprinkles....

People are quoting this supposed "mango" update info with no official announcement, just as some did for the supposed "january update that will make WP7 seem like WP8" if it doesnt materialise even more moaning will start. We should stick to what has been officially announced to avoid the inevitable MS bashing that will commence if they dont deliver the "massive" update rumours are claiming.

It defiantly needs something. I noticed in the past 2-3 weeks my phone has been acting different. Two things I noticed was when I go through my pictures the picture does not fill the whole screen, there is a black space at the bottom maybe a 5th of the screen is now black flipping throught pictures. One more thing was when playing music, when I switch the song i hear a loud noise, like a part of a song maybe half a second gets played very loud but not distinguishable what it was. This happening to anyone else? Sorry if it was a run on a little.

I just don't get this 'crappy' label? I have an HD2 (the best WM6.5 phone there is) and the HD7. Now agreed the HD7 is lacking a few features and GPS software etc BUT... and I have to stress this BUT.... it is only a few months old. Many users have only just got their WP unit and are moaning already!
It's absolutely pathetic. There are enough websites out there that will tell you everything about the WP phones - if you don't read them then if you don't like the phones it's your own fault! People go on about the iPhone being bug free and amazing - well that's taken years and it's hardly bug free (several of my mates installed the latest update and lost EVERYTHING off their phones when it bricked them!) - plus how great Android is... well that is wrong - it may be good (I love it on my HD2) but it is riddled with problems, slow down, programs that crash it etc....
If you don't like the WP OS then change your phone - the rest of us will wait a while for MS to give us updates and improve what is already a great mobile device!

Now you know how I felt about a month ago when MS announced the Aug/Sep massive update. And why my HD7...aka DesireHD7...is waiting for an Android ROM.
I put no trust or stock in MS. They aren't about consumer satisfaction. And they don't have the slightest concern about satisfying consumers.

It's MS removing or disabling stuff, to make a supposed update more apparent and liked. Kinda like a car lot putting on a sale of 10% off the entire stock. But they previously increased the cost 15%.
I used to be able to add email folders, and added about three. Now I can't.

Old news, old... It was released some time ago...
yea it is a few days old, but thanks for sharing with us though and please keep us informed of anything more you may find. appreciate you taking the step to come and share with us, even if you aren't a windows phone user.
Yeah despite this being old, this is a big indication we could see the update between tomorrow and next week. I'm sure Microsoft wants to get the update out before or during MWC so they have something worthwhile to present there.
Also, I'm expecting details of that second update at the MIX 11 developers conference this year. After all, MS introduced WP7 at MWC and then went into more detail when MIX came around.
Perhaps 7th Feb
Ive read that the update will be out on the 7th Feb.
I wouldn't count on Feb. 7 date, it may happen but don't get your hopes up. This rumour reminds me of the MS CES tablet stuff that never really happened. The original blog that reported Feb. 7 didn't provide any proof did they?

AFAIK, this is correct, but it's predicted for the "week of the 7th" so it could be any time next week. Can confirm the update is with carriers around the world.
Can I ask a possibly dumb question? Why is everyone so pumped for an update?
It's just, I know it'll speed up apps loading, and add copy+paste, etc. But I mean, even without it, wp7 is such a smooth OS, I just don't know what the rush is in hoping for an "OMG UPDATEZZ!!!1!111". It's not like wp7 is broken right now, and only an update will make it useable. And honestly I've only needed to use copy/paste once, and even then it wasn't a big deal...
I suspect everyone will be quite disappointed by the update...

I suspect that none of the features/fixes in the update, by themselves or taken as a whole, will be a "big deal". For many of us, this is a test of Microsofts credibility and support for this OS. The real question is, are they going to become responsive to their user base and make serious attempts to keep current with their competition? Most of us are waiting to see how often they release updates and whether the contents of those updates are valuable to their user base. We won't know that for a few updates I am sure.

...frightens me a little. Haven't heard of that before.
The real signal that the update is coming soon is when the Zune and Mac clients are updated to make backups. That's what I'm most looking forward to. Up until now there's no way to back up text messages, files, or app data and I have a lot of stuff on my phone I'd like to protect.
I use the Samsung Focus. I've never had any Market place issues with freeze ups, Ive certainly never had a random hard reset. I've only wished hard, around 4 times since 11/8/10 that I could copy and paste. I also haven't been able to view 90% of the embedded videos on the web sites Ive visited (Flash?). I want an update.. like 3 weeks ago like the big boys at MS said I would. I want to have enough faith in MS that come next upgrade I feel excited to update my hardware not my OS.

No lags, no issues with Marketplace, no resets, no freezes, two instances when copy and paste would have been nice, but countless need for Flash. Waiting to see what MS comes through with, and then the frequency of followup updates.

Nothing wrong with the country, but I've seen several references to how outsourcing to low-cost countries really doesn't lower the development cost...Here in Norway, it seems most of the outsourced projects gets scrapped because they never finish. Might be because it's hard to delegate to people almost on the other side of the world, might be differences in cultures etc etc.
I don't put too much trust in outsourcing at all...unless the management actually spend time with the team.
What a disappointment and nothing from nodo works.......

I really don't want to sound rude, but what in the world are you talking about. I haven't had a single MAJOR problem with it. I've had a few graphical glitches, but thats about it. Also, its a BETA release.

Totally agree, I just don't understand what people don't get about "BETA". That being said, there's a few features that aren't working yet & a few bugs, but guess what?!?!? This wasn't released for end users to test. It was released for Developers to be able to test their Mango Apps on a real device & not just in the Emulator. IMO, for a Beta, it's amazing, even better than NoDo.

not only did they do away with all our homebrew they didnt do anything that makes it better then it was or then the other OS's out there. Still just alot of little things that are missing. I think that they should put together an os that does all the stuff (simple things) you know that people buy 1 or the other smart phone for that reason... wow they would sell phones then. Not even gona go into those things you all know. There should be alot of things built in not third party.

Really, Mango is a great update, even in beta state. Multitasking and the promised, more fluid scrolling in third-party apps is not yet available because there are no mango-programmed apps yet, but aside from that, it's pretty amazing.

Why would he get torched? Cydia is a marketplace with both paid and free apps and mods.
Cydia by itself does NOT include any warez or anything like that.
And I agree, I would like to see a Cydia-like app where independent developers could upload their apps and reg-tweaks.
Yeah, It would be nice, but no one seems to be interested on it. Unfortunately.
Ah, my mistake. Been a while since I've used an iPhone I mistaked it for Appulous which, well, you know....
Cydia like app will be awesome and I'm sure once Mango takes off, and we have an easy way to unlock the phones something to the liking should come out.
I've actually been very interested in this for a while now, but I haven't found a way to implement it. Though I have a feeling someone has found some cracks in the security by now and is probably waiting for Mango to release, but we'll have to see...

Just because I was cynical doesn't mean I'm upset about being proven wrong? I was calling for Q2 2012 (which I have mentioned in another thread btw), and I was definitely proven wrong. Which is fantastic.
But let's also be clear, I did the disconnect method. If not, I didn't think it'd come through naturally until at least November, maybe even end of December.
Next, I would like to ask all the people that said WP would fail like the Kin to post their "revised" thoughts....
And 1 year from now when Apollo is released, when WP finally has some respectable market share (thanks to Mango) I want to re-ask that same question....

Well, it is essentially an off-handed compliment to Microsoft and WP7. In that sense, it's positive. Other than that, this thread does kind of make a point about human behavior. Naysayers almost always disappear when they are wrong.
Funny thing about this entire Mango (non)incident is that Microsoft implied that Mango may not be out until some time in 2012 at various points around its announcement.
I'm one of the people who didn't expect Mango until 2012.
This post doesn't really do anything. It was a win/win for me: either they prove me right by fumbling this update like NoDo or they prove me wrong by delivering a huge update to my phone.

Nothing personal but you bring up a good point.
In sports talk, they call this a fair-weather fan. When their team is winning, they run around waving a banner. When their team is losing, they speak in doom and gloom how the team will never do anything right. When their team starts winning again, everyone is so happy they forget about the behavior of the fair-weather fan. In essence, the fair-weather fan seems to be able to have his cake and eat it too. So, it's a win-win if you will.

These two posts = the point I was trying to make on the first page.
I don't think most people cared or thought that. At least not the decently intelligent ones. Microsoft took a year to get Mango out the door. That was long enough to stop caring for a lot of people. The issue was never if they could do it before 2012, it was if they could do it before it started looking like they wanted to use it as an incentive to sell 2nd gen phones.
And they pretty much did just that by releasing such unfutureproof devices last year and taking so long to get the update out.
The update is good, but it's all bittersweet to me.

Yea, there are lots of fair-weather fans here in Philly, especially with the Phillies & Eagles.
I wouldn't consider myself one of those. I would consider myself a fan who voices his concerns & opinions, usually with four letter words. I'm still a fan of the winning team, but I can't not let you know that your defensive line sucks against the run, or that your lineup doesn't seem to have it's head in the game.
I actually would consider the people who beat the 2012 drum responsible for MS to move at the speed they did. Instead of being salty, we should actually be proud.
