I know this question has been addressed before - but I can't seem to find a consensus answer so please direct me to the appropriate thread if I missed it
I rooted my Incredible with Unrevoked 3 and managed to get Busybox & Titanium working by redownloading Busybox with the Titanium problems button.
My question is (if I don't want to install the leaked Froyo OTA & which I think requires wiping my phone -what do I want to do when I receive the official Verizon 2.2 OTA?
Thanx!

Hey I'm just wondering if anyone has successfully Rooted Stock 2.2 for the Incredible yet. From what I read, I think Unrevoked is currently working on a 1-Click Root method for the people that received their stock 2.2 update.
The only reason why I am asking is cause I've always wanted to install CyanogenMod's Rom on my phone, ever since I heard they were working on working all the bugs out and whatnot I've been wanting it on my phone.
From what I understand the latest build of Cyan includes 2.2 and is somewhat stable and only a few issues exist which are supposed to be easy fixes.
But in any case I guess my question points to two parties: Unrevoked and Cyanogen - I need one group to make a compatible Recovery and the other to make a compatible ROM and without the necessity to include the 2.2 update. For those of us that already have the official OTA.
I hope this isn't asking/expecting to much. Anyways if anyone has got any information on the progress of either project please let me know. Thank you!

Yes!!
did it the first day I got the 2.2 notice...here is a post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771178
I am stock 2.2 rooted with unrevoked clockworkmod (manually) and S-OFF must be set....see link...
Oh...you can install a different room but get the device setup first but you will need S-OFF....very important...
Ya here's the problem with that method...I do not wish to downgrade. And I'm really against the whole wiping my phone idea cause even tho I know backup apps are available they never really restore the app fully and usually all the update links to the marketplace are cut. I'll just wait for the 1-Click method from unrevoked. Thanks for replying but you kinda missed my point. I wanted to ROOT and install the custom ROM with the stock OTA without having to downgrade cause I hated 2.1 with a passion.
Ya so I guess to simplify my question I'll just rephrase it:
Is it possible for me to use the CyanogenMod on my phone if I already have the stock 2.2 ota installed? And I think you just answered that question, because you said I would need to have the S-OFF first correct?
i'm rooted with 2.2 stock too!

Right now the only way to s-off is if you were rooted before 2.2. There is no root available for group yet. There is a guide to downgrade to 2.1 then root and s-off, but if you don't want to do that then you are stuck until they come out with a way to root 2.2.

Thank you for answering my question.
Even tho I never really cared about S-Off all I wanted was to install the Custom Rom.
unrevoked from Twitter:
Making good progress on v3.2 of unrEVOked right now. More devices, FroYo across the board, integrated optional S-OFF!
^^ just wait

Now this is exactly what I wanted to hear thank you "Shiodooru".
Hi Guys,
So I rooted my stock Incredible a few months back using Unrevoked and nandroid backup, and I know 2.2 just finally came out officially.
I've been keeping up with the forums but having a great deal of time figuring out how to upgrade to 2.2 with root. I actually received the notification from my phone that the update was out -- so I downloaded the update via my phone, and while it was trying to upgrade, the phone locked up -- then the update got lost after that and it says my phone is up to date yet I don't have 720p video recording.
I guess my main hurdle is overcoming all these technical speak -- upgrading radio? adb? recovery? kernel? All I want is to do the necessary minimum in order to upgrade from my rooted 2.1 to rooted 2.2.
Would someone please be kind enough to lend a hand? I've looked through "HTC DROID INCREDIBLE helpful/popular threads [LOOK HERE FIRST]" and other threads, but just get lost in the jargon.
Thanks!
These are some instructions I used to do what you want to do. I also added my comments on how I did it later in the posting. Thanks to Heathsrow for his help.

Updating the radio was the scariest part for me cause done wrong and it could brick your phone. Follow the steps slowly and precisely and it should be fine though.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Are you referring to the post by Heathsrow? But those are instructions to go from a Stock 2.1 to rooted 2.2..
I have a rooted 2.1 already. Will it matter?
This is the guide I started checking out last night. Thinking of doing it today!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771178
Make sure you apply s-off before installing 2.2, either the OTA or the RUU otherwise you will not be able to root it without downgrading back to 2.1.

Just wanted to say I followed this guide instead
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=760306
It's a lot easier. if you're already rooted on 2.1 start on step 9.
You can download unrevoked-forever at the top of the guide and the 2.15 radio.
Just make sure you follow the guide exactly and read the warnings about updating the radio.
Sorry if i seem a bit slow but i still haven't quite got the hang of android yet after many years of windows mobile.
I have a Desire which i have debranded using a goldcard and i have just rooted my stock froyo using unrevoked but have not installed any custom roms on it.
My questions are as follows: As i am now with rooted stock rom, will any updates be offered to me ota or do i have to unroot first?
If the answer is yes to updates being offered, will i still need to insert my goldcard to install them?
Why have i had to use my goldcard to install ota updates as i have debranded. Is there not a permanant fix so that my phone is properly debranded?
Any help from the forum gurus would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
1. Yes you should still be offered updates, but accepting them will remove root access
2. Yes, the gold card will be need to be used for ALL future updates
3. There is no permanent fix at present
Thanks. Just what i needed to know.
Long story short;
Bought a used Incredible to replace my rooted D1.
Ended up being rooted and still on 2.1 update-1.
I unrooted/wiped hoping it would update to 2.2 but no luck.
I don't have a problem rooting this phone but I would like to get the official 2.2 update on the phone first.
I searched around and found a couple links;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737400
Now, according to this first link you either need to be rooted with a 2.x radio or root and flash a 2.x radio. (My device does not have a 2.x radio, for the record I have 1.00.03.04.06)
Here's another link;
http://free-pc-guides.com/news/how-to-manually-install-latest-ota-for-htc-droid-incredible-06428
Does this method appear legit? Does this update.zip provide the neccessary radio?
Usually this would be a no-brainer for me but Im confused why the first link requires you to manually flash a newer radio before FroYo...
I would re-root and flash the OTA deodexed ROM thats rooted. PM me for link. or run the most recent RUU to get to most recent release.
Im a total noob coming from the Inc1 (which was easier to root and update)
I searched but may have missed something in the tons on information on this forum.
I did s-off using revolutionary as soon as i got the phone while running 2.3.3
Now I tried to accept the OTA 2.3.4 but it gives me an install error while trying to update.
I was wondering if reverting to the stock recovery (while s-off) would allow me to accept the OTA then I can push Clockworkmod recovery to become rooted again? if so where can i find the stock recovery for 2.3.3 and the new clockworkmod recovery i need to push after.
again, slight noob and any help would be appreciated.
If this has already been covered, I'm sorry, just link the thread and delete this one.
Thank you very much.
You Question has been answered here, maybe try waiting a little longer for a reply next time instead of opening new thread.
