Need help with RUU - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to upgrade my radio. Have been following a thread in the dev forum. Seems pretty straight forward. I downloaded the required files and then boot up with optical key and power. I have a white screen with bootloader. I select that with power and it sees the ruu, but gives an error message, wrong image. Am I doing this from the right screen? Some of the posts talk about being to the black screen with red triagle, but I have been unable to get there. When I select recovery, it takes me to the unrevoked version. Again, slightly new at this and don't want to brick my phone.
Should it be done through clockworkmod or from that stock screen? Any help would be appreciated.

are you trying to get to the 2.x radio? if so, I followed the instructions here and had no problem at all:
hxxp://www.jonamerica.com/technology/howto-htc-droid-incredible-leaked-froyo-2-2-update/
just make sure you are un-rooted and at stock before applying the update.

Is the radio the same as the base band? If I update my radio can I restore my backup of CM6? Or does CM6 not work on the incredible 2. X radio?
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

the radio is the baseband version, yes. My understanding is some roms require the 2.x radio in order to have certain features work correctly, camera, video recording etc. The developer of the specific rom should have that documented.

Did you root? sounds like your either not fully rooted or nand is locked still more information is seriously needed. What computer os are you working with what have you tried to rectified this issue what files have you used et etc etc
I had the same thing happen to me when trying to go back on my old Evo. I think if you flash the wrong files for your radio you'll brick it.
Power on while holding vol down and see what radio and hboot you have. Post it back here.

Ok are you already rooted and nand unlocked? Whats the purpose of you trying to break your phone now? lol
More INFO!
On the same screen
where you see the radio version, we need to know what the hboot version is, its important. Should be something like .72 (good) or .79 (not so good).

try posting in the correct forum, post this in qa or general
its .79 dohhh. Anything I can do or just contact sprint.
i did the exact same thing. i was allowed to try again but it still failed i removed the battery for about 10 mins and tried again but same thing i was able to get back to nand and flashed the rooted stock 1.47.651.1 but then i was only allowed to use that one. i had to go back through part 2 of rooting to flash anyother rom. but long story short i have yet to be able to go back to stock with any of the original RUU's
You can try to start with toast's part 2. Some people have been able to do it that way. You need to get back to being able to downgrade the bootloader.

In order to get back to Stock you need do this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701835 Step 2 and 3.
After finish it, turn off the phone press volume down and power to Bootloader screen
wait until load hboot, then in fastboot plug the usb and press power botton and will change to fastboot USB, Then run the RUU.
Good Luck!!
Ps: I got same issue when i began root and unroot but after practice is a piece of cake.

Issues with my Incredible (possible hboot upgrade needed?)

I just spent the last two months in the hospital so please help me if you can...
Ive noticed for a long time that I havent been able to access GPS navigation with any Rom other then stock for the last year. Every once in a while I will load a rom and immediatly get massive amounts of FC's. Ive fixed permissions within recovery and manually had to clear dalvik/cache/battery stats to get certain roms to work and sometimes this doesnt help.
Yesterday after unsucessfully flashing CM7 RC1 for the 3rd time I went into my hboot and saw that I had .77 (i thought I had v.92). I also noticed that I had radio v1.00.03.04.06. Is this the correct radio?
So my question(s) is this:
1) If I upgrade my hboot to .92 (btw I am already unrevoked forever) will It be like clearing all my data/etc?
2) will this fix my GPS?
3) after I flash the .92hboot (pb31img.zip im assuming?) will it also include the correct radio?
4) the process to flash the radio is to do it manually in recovery NOT go into Rom Manager correct?
GPS fail cause your radio is old and for CM7 you need the .92 hboot for the bigger boot partition. I have both on my site and you would flash both through hboot and not recovery. Have only one on your SD card at a time or you can waiit till I get home or someone else who is nice and package on up that contains both. Very simple to do.
That would be much appreciated Doug.
will flashing these cause s-off to...umm turn on?

Flashing a radio or HBOOT does not make you S-ON. Be sure to make sure your MD5 sum matches what the provided MD5 sum says.

This has been helpful as I've had GPS inaccuracy issues on Warm TwoPointTwo and Incredibly Re-engineered. Can I check the Hboot version and radio version without going into Hboot? Wouldn't mind troubleshooting while waiting for a call but with my luck, I'll be in deep and miss the call.

HBOOT you have to boot into it to check. You can check your radio version by going to settings, about phone, software information. There is should be under "baseband version".

1. No, it will only update your HBOOT and you shouldn't lose anything. (provided the HBOOT file is valid)
2. HBOOT upgrading, probably not, but updating the radio should definitely help.
3. Radio & HBOOT updating are separate I believe, unless you are updating from an RUU.
4. Yes that is correct
Here are the radio's, make sure to update to either the 07.28 or the 09.01.

[Q] Broken Screen, reverting back to stock rom + recovery

Hello everyone!
I am going to attempt to revert my Desire Z back to stock because I would like to send it in for repairs due to a broken screen. My phone is BELL branded Desire Z, and I got it only a couple months after it came out, stock version is probably around 1.34 I think..? I would provide details but the screen doesn't work and I'm not aware of any command line tools to retrieve that data. (Screen is solid black)
My issue is this:
I am currently running Cyanogen mod 6.1 with Clockwork recovery. I have S-OFF, and CID is whatever it was when I got it. (rooted with rage + gfree and didn't change the CID)
I know I have to install the Bell stock firmware, that being bell's ROM with sense UI, radio and recovery, but I'm not sure what order to do it in, or if I can just use the RUU (older version, the one that came with my phone so that I can obtain root in the future)
I seem to have the impression the RUU checks a version number of some kind and if flashing an older version number, it will not flash. (I could be wrong, that's what I need you for) It is also my understanding that the RUU flashes EVERYTHING, radio, recovery, hboot, etc. Can I use the old(er) RUU to flash my phone back to factory with out doing anything first? Again I've got CM mod 6.1 on there with the clockwork recovery, S-OFF, and regular hboot and CID.
Also, my screen is broken and I cannot see anything on the display, however, last time I checked I could still use the touch screen, although blindly, so if you have anything to help me, command line style is preferred.
Also, I'm not new to linux, I've been using it on my laptop for about 2 years, and I'm in school for programming (beginner still), so lay on the technical stuff, more than anything I'd like to learn...
Thanks for your help!

[Q] Hboot questions

Hopefully this hasn't been covered. I wasn't able to find anything after half a day of searching.
My questions is regarding setting up DZ hboot on a G2. From what I've read this is necessary on some (seems like most) ROMs due to the size limitation of /system (particularly Sense ROMs).
Is there any reason necessarily to stay at a G2 hboot if I can deal with /data size restrictions. I'd like to switch over to a few other ROMs that require it, however, I wouldn't necessarily want to keep switching back and forth if I don't have to. A few particular scenarios come to mind.
1) I create a backup of my current CM7 backup and would like to go back to it after running a sense based ROM that require DZ hboot. Am I required to restore the G2 hboot before restoring?
2) If I didn't want to remove the DZ hboot, can I just do a clean CM7 install over it?
3) Is there anything in particular that requires the DZ hboot? Does this only change the hboot? I thought I had seen somewhere that it changes radio and radio needs to be reflashed to G2 (I'm new to radio flashing and haven't read up enough on it yet).
I guess I am just trying to understand the dependencies of ROMs and hboot. Any thoughts or references would be most welcome. Thanks.
If you flash the DZ hboot you will be able to restore any nandroid backups you made before changing hboot's. All roms will work on the DZ hboot cm, sense, miui and aosp.
You will only ever need to change hboot's if you need to go back to stock for warranty purposes.
If you follow the guide on www.virtuousrom.com to change hboot's it will change your radio, but if you successfully mange to flash the hboot you will pretty much know the procedure for flashing radios.
Do Androids dream of electric sheep?
Thanks CJ. That gives me answers to most my questions, time for a little more reading.
Quick question however, is the zip method for flashing radios preferred, or fastboot and setup the img? Especially after switching the hboot as the proccess sounds the same.
Or is the process of naming PC10 etc zip files the way of tricking the bootloader into using those files?

Sorry for the late reply, had a busy few days. Either method is good but check the md5sum before flashing radios.

[Q] Flashing new radio with MIUI

So it seems there is a lot to think about when flashing a new radio, and I suspect I need to update, my Inc data speeds and signal are always terrible. I want to update my Incredible to radio 2.15.00.08.08, but I'm just not sure how or what the best way is with my current setup. Here is what I'm running right now
ROM: MIUI Build 112090
Radio: 2.15.00.07.28
Kernel: 2.6.38.8 Incredikernel
Again, I would like to update to 2.15.00.08.08. I understand that I need to put the PB31IMG.zip on the SD, is this correct? Then I am kind of lost, I know to go into hboot, but I don't know the steps are after getting to HBOOT. I've also heard stuff about needing to dial *228, will I need to do this after, considering I'm on MIUI or what? I hate to be needy and ask for specific steps, but I've searched and haven't found a definitive answer for installing new radios on MIUI. I apologize if I didn't search well enough.
Come to think of it, what radio exactly should I use? And from which site people on XDA reference two different sources to get them from? Should I do 2.15.10.07.07 (GB according to PvilleComp) or 2.15.00.08.08 (Newest Incredible according to rootzwiki)?
There's the list from Rootzwiki, which the Incredible Developer forum sticky references, and users often reference radios from PvilleComp?
Which is the right option?
I can't tell what you attached in your images but either source is correct. On XDA, we refer to "pvillecomp.com" as it's an all in one site for the Incredible.
To install any radio, just label the file as: PB31IMG.zip
1) then place it on the root of the sd card
2) once you boot into hboot, your phone will search for that file name and prompt you to update. I believe it prompts to press volume up to approve the update.
3) boot directly into your rom, in this case MIUI, to ensure the process completes. Don't go into recovery, go straight into your rom as the next step after upgrading your radio.
As for *228 on AOSP, I'm honestly not certain if it works. I know you can do this for Sense roms but I'm not entirely clear that process for AOSP cuz of misinformation.
Edit: once you successfully upgrade your radio, delete the PB31IMG.zip file from your sd card. Otherwise, you will be interrupted with the upgrade process each time you boot into hboot in the future. The radio 07.07 is the newest Incredible radio and 08.08 is the latest from the Evo although it works as well for our phone. Try both but I suggest 07.07 to begin with. Your experience depends on a host of factors.
Thanks, I'll update tonight and see how it goes
