don't do it. if anything wait for the next evo that comes out
Do NOT get galaxy s 2 unless you love losing signal all the time. Be patient save your upgrade. HTC has some beastly quad cores coming out soon.

i don't think so
I think the 3d is by far the best phone on sprint. The og evo was nice and i did love it but its just outdated compared to the 3d. It loads up everything so much quicker. I can watch youtube videos now that i use to blame sprint for messing up. I can every app in my phone and it breezes through it. My og evo couldnt handle it. Dont get me wrong, ive talked 4 of my family members into getting the og evo but if they had the money it would be evo3d hands down in every category.
In all honesty I wouldn't go for the evo 3d. The signal of it is better then some (the Galaxy S II being one of them) but the phone itself is gimicky. You will like the speed of it over the og evo, and the 3d capability is cool but that's it. The pictures it takes are more holographic then anything and give you a headace, and the movies look good but won't stream to a 3d tv. I see a lot of them with scren and software issue that aren't rooted at all. If you are going to upgrade now I would deffinetly go with the motorola photon. It has the best signal strength out of any phone, and you still get the speeds you need to do stuff without lagging. You won't be able to to customize it like you can with the evo just yet, but it does an amazing job keeping you happy. The GSII is nice and all but the signal drops the quality of it so much. If you're only looking to go to the 3d save your time and money and wait for another phone. I still have an original evo and I wouldn't go to a 3d if you paid me (and you can get the 3d free from sprint as an exchange if yours is messed up and I still won't)
3d is like heated seats in a car. If u dont like it, dont use it. Your still left with leather seats. In all of my tests with signal the photon and evo3d are the same. My evos avg 200kb less on avg and never peak as high. As for the sg2 and nexus, thwy are made by sammy and they have never made a decent radio in my opinion. Its not just speed on the 3d. Its the battery life, screen resolution, 4gbs internal memoy, newer sense, and a soon to be ics update that makes it the choice over the og evo.
Off topic, why does a evo give error code 63 in some places? Over time ive owned about 8 (no problems) But they all give the same error when i go to north carolina to certain spots. It will still work but i have to hit cancel ever few secs.

The 3D is faster and has another core, it's a little nicer... it's not a LOT nicer though..
I had a company buy me one, so I'm happy with it.. have my OG as a backup WiFi home phone.
I was one of the first on the EVO band wagon with Sprint..
After a long time, of promising me 4G and waiting for the Galaxy Nexus to come out for Sprint.. I'm not waiting any longer..
T-Mobile is giving away GSII 's this weekend.. and I'm making the switch..
Looking for some tips and tricks here..
I know the phone is much faster than my EVO..
What are some things I should know about this phone?
T-Mobiles service is lightning fast for a glorified 3G (HSPA)
My EVO is rooted and I'm running Cyanogen Rom..
I would like to Root my GSII and eventually within a few weeks put a ROM on it..
Now.. Is it all basically the same? Rom manager? Reboot into recovery ? RA,Clockwork?
Flash zips?
How is the battery life? I deal with pretty good Battery life with my EVO.. after much time with messing with Kernels and such..
How is the Camera? Pictures looked great from me playing with it...
Duel Core 1.5 CPU ?? Seems awesome.. Galaxy Nexus is only 1.2 or something..
Screen quality as well looks amazing!!
Anything else you guys can tell me about this phone, I would appreciate it ,..
THANKS
Yup, its probably the same but you need to use odin and download mode to root.
Battery life is 12 hours for me with medium usage, and with lil usage it can last up to 30~ hours.
Camera is fine. I personally find it better than any phone i had, just dont zoom when taking pictures.
1.5 ghz doesnt mean anything, Uk's GS2 is 1.2 ghz but atleast 20% faster than ours.
Hey dude, I was in the same boat as you. I had a HTC Evo running Cyanogen, too. I just got my SG2 last Friday and everything was pretty painless in terms of getting everything done. There were a few things that were confusing and frustrating, but it's really really easy to root and everything.
First thing you're going to want to do is follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332103
The first time you get into Odin and recovery and everything can be frustrating, so you're going to want to keep your battery cover off in the mean time until you can flash the recovery onto there and all that jazz.
Once you've got recovery installed and rooted, you can start flashing ROMs. The ROM I'm using is Juggernaut, which you can find here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1322642. It's got the most features, in my opinion, and runs rock solid. One thing I like about it is that I can reboot into recovery while in the ROM, so I don't have to shut it off, do the key presses to get in there. Makes it way easier when flashing new themes, etc. etc. After putting on a custom ROM, I moved on to flashing a theme, which brings Gingerbread up to look like ICS. I used this theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1341526.
In terms of battery life, I'm constantly texting with vibration on, using 3G/4G to listen to music and browse the web. I'm starting at about 8 or 8:30 am and get done with work at about 3 or 4, and by the time I get home I'm sitting at like 35 or 40% charge. This is on the Bullet kernel that comes with the Juggernaut ROM. In terms of the speed of the processor, it's fast. Really fast - better than the one we have in the EVO. The camera is awesome, too. I use a program called HDR Camera+ to do HDR pics, and it's awesome. Cost $3.99 int he market, but the stock camera takes awesome pictures, too. Videos on it are awesome. Here's one I took last night to show a friend the colour changing on my new gaming keyboard using the stock camera program to record: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geiPjeNjfiU
Sure I'll answer! Hi, and welcome to the sgs2 T-Mobile section!
1: you should know the phone has a way better screen then the evo, hmm probably lacking devs, since there were probably many for the evo. No issues honestly. GPS calls etc. Perfect. Well close to.
2: yes, rom manager, clockwork, etc same flashable zip
3: battery life is something you don't have to worry about, the evo battery sucked, HTC+battery is a no go.
4: camera is ehh, better than the nexus, but not better than the original sgs2.
5: 1.5 vs 1.2 actually the nexus is faster than our phone, but you can't tell much.
6: I mean from the sgs 2 to the evo is a big jump, honestly you'll enjoy this phone!

Yep.. i'm pretty excited..
Few more questions if you guys don't mind..
How does it score on "Quadrant" ?
Finally, since we're all using T-mobile here.. My fathers co-worker just got this phone as well .. and on a speedtest he is averaging anywhere from 4-10 down and 2-4 up
To me, that seems incredible.. Actually, it seems almost TOO FAST.. as if its just going to show those speeds on the initial speed test, then slow down. ??
I use about 4-5 gigs a month, I use Slingplayer,Netflix,HBOGO, sportstracker live, and many other bandwidth dependent programs..
With those speeds all those I just listed would work flawlessly ....
Is it accurate? Are you guys happy with the speeds??
EDIT** Also, I assume I can get rid of the bloatware and other stuff Samsung puts on these phones with a rom?? Right?
EDIT #2.. lol
No ICS roms yet?
Will ICS come out for this phone?? I assume its more than powerful enough.. No leaked versions yet? I mean, the EVO already has one.. Very alpha stage, but still...
I just got the white tmobile version from the sprint version which I loved but both 3G/4G suck balls.....so I made the flip I use sprint for voice only 30bucks a month.....then I got the $30 5GB 100min on tmobile....my 4G speeds are very fast between 11-22mpbs !!! I barley got 3mpbs on sprint 4G........performance wise I knew the processor was different and went almost looking for a lesser experience ..but hpnestly I really dont notice any difference at all...Im happy with the setup I have and making my cell phone plans work for me and not get screwed by carriers

I just realized.. NO google wallet for this phone..

wrong
if you run exynos 1.2ghz and compare it to our 1.5, they should run around the same speeds
the amazing part is that wheny ou oc the exynos to 1.6, then it'd be faster than ours when we oc our snapdragon to 1.8
I also just jumped ship from sprint w/ an EVO. Now on T-Mobile w/ Galaxy S II. Loving it so far though i expected a larger development scene for the device, seems like the other GS II models have been getting a bit more love as far as custom rom development goes. Is they're any reason for this? Besides technical development setback's of course.

Pretty much the galaxy nexus and ics development slowed down a lot of development...it hasnt stopped development, just slowed it down. There are still a lot of devs working on this device.

The camera does zoom, use pinch to zoom in and out..
I have about 3 hours of screen on time and play games and what not and do about 14 hours
As for the exynos being "faster" this is just not true.. the processor is not faster nor does it compute any more or less. the only thing it has over us is the GPU is much better. However there is no game that is able to tax what we have so it doesn't matter..
As for quadrants I have gotten between 3000 and 4000 depending on the setup at the time. but I would prefer 2500 and a smooth device over a 4000 and jumpy menus..
And t Mo's 4G < or 3G what ever> is great, especially when you compare it to Sprints pathetic speeds. I get between 13 and 20 mbps down and over 2 mbps up.. not to far off of LTE.
Well said.

I also switched over to Tmobile from Sprint last year and agree about sprints Wimax being pathetic compared to tmobiles hspa. I loved my evo but customer service and 4g for Sprint was garbage. And the sgs2 is by far the best phone out right now

Hello
i'v noticed that in some reviews the one x took photos that weight over 5mb mine for some reason takes less then 2.8mb
also panorams takes about 1mb top..
is that normal?
stock One X 1.29.720.11
Silly question really, depends on what your taking a pic off, if I take a pic of my daughter playing inside I'm looking at like 2.5mb but of I take a pic of my family outside with clouds and hills behind them with loads of different colours and shades it will be like 6.5mb

If you are rooted, which I assume you are since you're on XDA, you can install the HQ Camera Mod and get hugely improved photos from the stock app. I'm talking an average of 6-8MB pics with much less noise.

Not anymore reverted back to stock for warranty issues.
Now on stock 4.0.3.
Then an app like Camera360 would do you good
bummer..the stock camera is so good but the image quality is like 90% ..

I think more like 70%. Compression really takes its toll for speed.
you also having this problem?
im curious about the 4.0.4 stock update will it fix the camera Compression ?

I hear it does improve it a little, but apparently the leaked Sense 4.5 Camera is even better still, with much less noise and less compression. I've installed the mod, but haven't had the chance to take any photos yet to compare.
Is it me or is the auto brightness on the screen quite poor compared to stock? With stock, I remember I could see the screen change all the time.
Also, the notification color LED looks....off. Blue is much lighter, red looks different. But blue isn't nearly at blue nor as bright.
Also the network status thing seems to change a lot...I can go from LTE to H+ to H to 3G all in the same spot within 10 minutes. While in stock it was always on 4g or LTE anywhere I went.
The notification for voicemail is un-deletable for some reason....
The call quality on CM10 is quite poor compared to touchwiz, It isn't bad, but it isn't nearly as good. It seems CM10 lacks the last settings for this kind of stuff. I am not sure if anyone else thinks so. If not, how can I fix this?
Last thing, Is there a good alternative to the Touchwiz camera? I'd love to have HDR, all the filters, and modes back from the Touchwiz camera. I believe HDR is coming in 4.2. There are a lot of camera apps, but very few have HDR AND other features. They have one or the other. Isn't 4.2 bringing HDR?
Thanks guys. So far I am loving CM10. Everything runs far smoother and looks prettier. Best of all, I'll probably have 4.2 by the time the OTA updates comes out for AT&T.
Can't answer all your questions but with regards to the camera app every one I've tried is garbage. You're better off forgetting that your phone can take pictures until 4.2 comes out.
Edit: actually every one isn't garbage, but like you said they're all missing 1 feature or another or they're unintuitive or slow.
Pro capture is decent but lacks HDR and the panorama mode is a pain to use (not as bad as stock android but it doesn't make sense the way it works). Give that one a shot.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
The reason your service is changing frequeantly isn't actually a problem or anything wrong. With CM10 it is reporting the actual signal your phone is getting. With touchwiz it's reporting what you could be connected to. Basically on your stock TW the actual signal will change from LTE to H+ and 3G to save your battery from constantly staying on the LTE connection. Your service doesn't indicate this change because that would annoy most users. On CM10 this change is reported. It's actually the same behavior of your internal radio but you are just seeing it fluctuate more as it is doing it's job to save your battery.
Glad you asked about the camera though. It's the only thing holding me back from flashing because I like to take lots of pictures and the quality just isn't there.
Anyone have some help on the other questions

So turns out that this app does in fact have HDR but it's called 'reduced noise'. So that's taken care of. The only other annoying thing is the constant popups telling you to buy the full version, but I think it's on sale for 99 cents now. Or at least it was yesterday

No Secure LTE or WIFI
i've had CM 10on my gs3 for almost a month. now i can't login to any app that requires a secure connection. anyone know why and is there a way to fix without wiping?

Interesting. How did you figure out that "reduced noise" is the same as HDR? Does it actually merge two exposures? If not, it may help scenes that would otherwise be over/underexposed, but it's not really HDR...

That is what HDR does. It over exposes and under exposed the picture at different ISO settings. It would take one picture at 200 ISO and the other at 800 ISO. This allows you take a picture where it is light where is is normally dark and dark where it is normally light. This prevents a picture from being too dark in some parts and washed out it others.

If true, that's very cool!
The htc g1 came with as little as 75mb after an OTA it went up to 95mb....is it possible to crank up the ram space to maybe 400mb(that way roms will get faster)..... I know the reserved space is for radio and other stuff buh who knows we could pull something small in... Also can someone explain to me how the GPUs in smartphones work do the use a special video RAM? if yes How much of ours do u think it does use.?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using xda premium
It wasn't an ota for the g1 that magically gave in more ram, the extra 14mb of ram was stolen from the camera after a hacked up hboot was combined with another radio and put onto the g1, mind you none of this was meant for the phone rather ezterry is just extreamly good at what he does and was lucky to have such a similar phone to work with and JTAG experience repairing his phone so he had little risk of a brick. (Actually he was the first one to JTAG a g1)
Also the g1 had already been hacked apart so deeply that most ins and out were known and exploits were much easier to find. Such as patching a recovery to allow custom mtd partitions to allow for choice on how much space is set aside for system, data, etc.
Know that even with this you could just take so memory and just call it ram it needed to come from somewhere. So when a phone says it has 512mb ram available but you find only 375 usable that is because the rest is reserved for things like the radio, if you were to steal ram from some of these things well the wouldn't work well if at all, not to mention you wold need a great hack like the one ezterry did

I thought some RAM was stolen from the GPU as well, which is how come we got 109/ 110MB in the end (Also why 3D games don't work).
You are right on the .13d spl, that's where that ram came from, I was thinking of the ram hack for the donut roms back when the danger spl was the cats meow. Thanks for clearing that up!
