as the title says i hate when my phone is acting slow to have to goto the test menu to see if I am on 1x or EVDO.....
is it somehow possible to make it so that it does not just show 3g all the time in a custom rom???
Thanks for any answers in advance

(Rom)Ava-FroyoV1-Sense+2.2 Froyo
I am currently running this Rom and it does exactly that. (Tells you Evdo, 1x etc)
BEWARE! This is Android 2.2 (Froyo) which has a lot of bugs and things not working. (No Rear Camera, No MMS, 4G, Android Market is screwed up, etc.)
"Word on the street" is that soon, (next couple of days or maybe even tonight) there are going to be new Froyo ROMS that will fix many of these issues.
so by tonight it being released you mean this AVA rom should be updated or you mean in general some new code is being released on froyo????
I use my camera daily lol and it takes to long to NAND between rom's to snap a photo of the kiddo on the fly!!!

probably referring to CyanogenMod 6 it should top any of the froyo roms here IMO
There are a few Froyo ROMS out right now. Differences between them are that some concentrate on speed, user experience, etc. etc. some run Sense and some don't.
At the race right now:
Two different Developers, each has their own Froyo ROM:
Avalaunchmods - Ava (Sense)
Cyanogen - CM6 (AOSP... (no Sence) I believe?)
Both of them will be releasing their own ROM that allegedly fixes many of the Froyo issues we are currently experiencing. Cyanogen posted on Twitter that his CM6 might be going live tonight on the nightly builds for Evo..
Ava has also stated that he too will be releasing an update soon...
Below are pictures of what you were looking for:
Are there any FULL AOSP (no sense at all) ROMs other than CM6 RC1? I cant stand sense and have been looking all over for a AOSP rom with working 4G and 8mp camera.
Thanks!
I could be wrong, but i think they are waiting on the kernal for the 4G. I think i read that somewhere, but like i said, i could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
CM6 has 8mp camera working. Has been since day 1. If you think it's not because it doesn't fill up the whole screen, you are mistaken. By default HTC sets it to widescreen, but at that ratio it is actually losing resolution. People need to turn the widescreen off to get the full 8mp. The 6mp (wide) setting in CM6 is comparable to the default stock HTC setting.
EDIT: and no, there isn't any other true AOSP roms besides CM6.
OT: Can someone tell me what AOSP is?

edit: Oops, you beat me to it. I should refresh more often before posting i guess
More specifically, it is the absolute base of the Android operating system. It is where all the phone developers start, but then they weave in a bunch of their own custom software. I think the phone manufaturers want to differentiate each other and give them more of a brand (i.e. Sense). It's all fine and dandy, but some people just like to have the true base of the Android system and then choose what apps they clutter it up with instead of it being cluttered up to begin with.
Awesome, thanks for the explanation. AOSP sounds EXACTLY like what I'm looking for as I want to build my own android from the ground up...

Cyanogen is waiting on the kernel for 4G? There are plenty of custom froyo roms with root access and working 4G but none that dont have sense. Am I really the only one who hates sense? I cant believe that every custom froyo rom has sense!
Just download any rom, and run ADW instead. The only thing you're losing is the space on your phone that sense takes up, big deal.
ADW is the launcher used in CM, so if you liked that, you can have your stock froyo and 4g.
Also, it's your phone, and that's why we are here, to make our phones look and perform how we want, but what is it about sense that you hate? I personally think it brings a more human feel to Android. I ran with CM6 for like 5 days, and while it's a great ROM, I just missed the things sense gives you. I actually got better benchmarks on DC 3.5 than CM6 too, even though there is no actual noticible difference between the two performance wise.
A lot of people say that Sense isn't needed since 2.2, but I disagree, it's not just about the functionality, it's about the form too. Sense just plain looks better. It give the phone a more polished feel. Stock android is very Spartan, very cold. Some people like that I guess.
I for one don't like the forced integration of things like facebook in sense. I run a very spartan (to use your terminology) setup... I like clean... Same with my desktop pc. I don't like desktop icons either

the HTC 4G stack is propriartary. CM is AOSP.
Clearwire released their 4G implementation a few weeks ago. someone is actively working to get it working on the EVO.
we are impatiently waiting for 4G. only ROM's that are Sense based currently have 4G. AOSP will not. perhaps this week
and no...you are FAR from the only one that is happy to be rid of HTC Sense.
What about getting the stock Froyo keyboard? How do we get that on a sense rom?
Some people made 2.1 roms that were sense, but had most of the AOSP apps swapped in and sense replacements removed.
There are a couple kinda like that for 2.2, Android Central has a stripped rom, and FroYo fusion has a senseless version, but I haven't used it or even seen screenshots, so I don't know what it is like.
Avalaunch started on an AOSP 2.1 build, but he kinda scrapped it for his custom Sense stuff.
Right now the CM team is implementing everything from scratch, which is why some things don't work like 4G, and HDMI. No other phones had this before. The reason all the Sense Roms work is because the sense framework has all the parts that are needed.
One nice thing about CM is if you don't install gapps, you can get the source code to every bit of the OS running on your phone.

lulz.....
Yeah, don't get me wrong, I find it frustrating, but they do it because their target audience isn't people like you and me. They use a custom bluetooth stack so they have control over it, it is easier for them to make sure that everyone's expensive headset and car stereo work. They limit performance and graphics to get better battery life and stability. They created Sense to make the interface more appealing to people who would otherwise be turned off by AOSP and buy an iPhone instead (even though Android is WAY better for social networking integration).
I'm kinda bummed we haven't been able to just grab N1 roms and hack them over more often. It's kinda strange. The Aria (Liberty) had an AOSP Legend port within weeks of release. Here we are 2 full months out and we have ROMs based off HTC's work, and CM. That's it.

Also FM Radio, HDMI output, updating PRL.
Not complaining about the team douche work, but more that we don't have other devs working on AOSP. I don't care much about the missing features, and run CM as my daily. Sometimes I'll flash to a sense ROM to get 4G for tethering to my PC, but this is rare, and nandroid makes it very quick to flash back and forth when needed.
Actually... I thought Exchange support was there but just having issues for some (possibly many) people.

this is totally wrong. I live on Exchange daily for work. if CM6 were not able to get my exchange email or notify me properly I would be using it. I have been on CM6 since RC1 second day and most of the nightly builds since.

Youre right about ADW.. I already downloaded that launcher. However, I like the custom themes that come with the non sense ROMs. Such as CM6's music player, or the window pane (if you will) theme for the camera, etc. If you dont know how to program, which i dont, you are somewhat limited with what you can do in terms of customization.

This sounds like GREAT news to me. I hope youre correct. I think im just gonna go back to CM6 for now. It was a great rom and I can only use 4G at work so its not that big of a deal to me. The only other issue I had with CM6 was the inability to split a >160 character text message into two messages.
Can anyone remind me if the 8mp camera was working? I cant remember which kernel cm6 used.
The 8mp camara works. When you click the settings on the right of the screen the settings within the box that pops out scroll. 8mp is selected by defult
OK, I've successfully rooted my beloved EVO... Now, it's time to consider a new, stable, BATTERY-EFFICIENT Gingerbread ROM; one that has WiMax, Camera (both), and Location Services running, along with basic 3G of course...
I like Sense, but I can live without it so that's not an impediment.
If you're asking why Gingerbread, well, I'd like to be cutting edge , with support for millions of colors (as I understand the Novatec screen on my 0003 Evo can handle it), and with some of the security vulnerabilities of pre 2.2.2 Android patched up.
The main things are:
1. Stability
2. WiMax and improved 3G (if possible)
3. Battery life improvements
4. Theming ability
I'm, frankly, bewildered by the options, so I'd like real-life experience and suggestions so I can narrow down my options.
Assists are appreciated...
Try cm7 it's the most stable fastest gingerbread rom

I don't think there are any 2.3 sense roms yet. From what I understand, the only gingerbread rom that supports wimax at all is CM7 nightlies and even that is a little spotty. I think you're just going to have to wait a bit longer for all that in one rom.
I'm leaning towards CM7...
There are no Sense ROMS that are based on 2.3? It's not a big deal, but I was hoping there were, and I missed it (to add more competition).
CM7 is great, definitely worth a shot
Nope no sense based gb roms yet. Your best bets are CM7 newest nightly or, if you're willing to venture away from xda, Ultimate Droid.
CM7, no questions asked. If you want an alternative, Salvage mod has MOAR GEEZ as well, but no personal experience with it.

But hotspots does.
Sent from my Evo that can't see the Apple orchard with its big wall.
With the exception of an early GPS problem CM7 is stable and many people are reporting faster connection speeds too.
Not a problem because it has a hotspot built into the rom. No need for wirless tether.

Seems like CM7 is where I might start.
Is there any particular nightly of CM7 that I should DL?
11 and 12 are a little buggy but work great for me on android 2.3.3. Anything after 6 is wimax and 2.3.2 before 6 is no wimax. Try 12 and try both savage Zen and tiamat kernels in it. both are great.

CM7 has built in wireless and usb tether, both work great. CM7 RC2 is very stable and very smooth. I use launcher pro plus and have zero complaints. Great rom with excellent functionality.

I love CM7. I use it on my tablet. However there is not a stable build for my Epic 4g, and I would not want to switch to it anyways, as I am running Bonsai 4.0 and really love it. Its nice having android tablet and phone, AND having different version on each. keeps things interesting.
HOWEVER- there is one thing i would love to have on both devices. that is the overscroll glow effect present in CM7 (where the edges of your screen glow when you drag too far past a menu). Is there any way someone could make something that could be flashed in cwm that would provide similar functionality as the one in CM7??? I have posted on AC forums, on CM7 official forums (on their website), and now on here. No response on the others... hoping maybe one of the devs on here can work your magic. It would be GREATLY appreciated!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that a feature of CM7 or gingerbread altogether? I think you might just have to wait until we get stable(er) cm7 or gingerbread.
Sorry!
i believe it is a part of cm7. i have 2.2.1 on my phone already with no such feature. I was hoping there would be a dev that would be willing to either port that feature FROM cm7, or code something like it. i can, and DO, do all my own theming, but when it comes to code i have zero skill.

*sigh*
There's so much I want to say. But instead, I will say this:
This device is only officially supported through Android 2.3.5 (Gingerbread). Any Android versions past that do not have official drivers, so they would have to be built from scratch, for a device that has been EOL for quite a while. Thus, your statement "where everything works the way it should" doesn't make sense, as the device doesn't officially support running ICS or JB.
That being said, all of the ICS/JB ROMs suffer at the very least the same list of things not working - FFC, 4G, HDMI out, Netflix. Videocam can also be an issue on some. So, based on your criteria, you'll be sticking to Sprint-based Gingerbread Sense ROMs .

Not sure why all the sighing and such but thanks for the info. It's hard to tell because it's not always clear what people base a ROM on and it seems like only about half the people posting ROMs list what doesn't work. I was hoping there might be a cynagenmod 9 or 10 for it at some point but it doesn't seem likely.

To me finished means things work. I mean what makes it finished? Just that you are able to install it on the phone? If that were the case there was a finished version more than a year ago. Obviously cyanogen doesn't think it's finished either otherwise they would make it official.

That's not what makes a CM build official or not. But I'm not going to bore you with facts you can find via Google. And yes, everything that can/should work work. But there are updates to drivers that can make things work better, or tweaks here and there that can be done. Besides the fact that Google releases updates/patches that need to be included.
Since I answered your original question, I will now digress.
Lol how many times a week are people going to ask about ics and jb builds with everything working, or official HTC releases without looking for themselves first before realizing they don't and wont ever exist. Yes they are finished, they boot, make calls, get data, the only things that dont work on em are 4g and FCC. Just unroot your phone and forget about it, you aren't cut out for this business son.

You need to assess just how important some features are to you. If you only have an Evo, and somehow don't have an upgrade on your plan, then you have 2 options.
1: Keep it stock, everything works. No hassle, just poor battery life. Maybe get Superuser and remove the adware/junk if you feel like it.
2: Use a custom ROM which will not have working 4g, FFC, and other features that you won't know they don't work until you go to use them.
Weigh the pros and cons and make a choice, but everyone here so far is correct. The device is EOL and there will most likely never be a working ICS/JB build that has all features working. That would require too much work, for an EOL device.

If you must have all radios and hardware of the EVO 4G fully functional, you should stick with a gingerbread ROM v 2.3.5 or later. MikG 3.11 is a Sense based ROM that is well integrated and fully supports all EVO 4G operations. You can download MikG 3.11 at http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?10338-MikG-v3-11-3-9-2012.
As others have indicated, no ICS or Jellybean ROM supports 4G or the FFC. Sadly the necessary work for the hardware drivers is not likely to happen. If you do not require working 4G or FFC, there are a number of fully functional Android 4.0.4 (ICS) or 4.1.2 (Jellybean) ROMs available. I happen to like HALO Series II Nova http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1903469&page=33 and AlienMOD Solar Flare Series V http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086163 with the caveat that I am experiencing some tint issues with camera applications in these ROMs.
