I'm using [ROM-FroYo] Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM (16/07 v1.0c | OpenDesire Team) with a 2gb standard goldcard, I wanted to upgraded to a larger hc sd card for movies etc, I have a desire which is unbranded/unlocked from the time of purchase.
If I take out the current 2gb sd and put in a 4gb hc phone stays at htc logo, so question is how can I upgrade without going back to stock ROM, as I need to boot the phone with the new sd so I can make higher capacity goldcard ?
Thanks
Derek
Your phone is unbranded?
You shouldn't need a goldcard unless you brought your phone from some store which bloats their phones with rubbish, and put the logo everywhere on the phone.
Chances are you have to do a factory wipe, as the phone is properly searching for the apps stored on the SDCard, and cant find anything, confusing it.
Try leaving it to boot for about 5-10 mins, sometimes 20mins in some cases, and see if it can figure out that it's a new card.
If not, factory wipe, but nandroid the system to the old SDcard 1st, wipe, insert new SDCard, partition the new one (either with RomManager, Recovery Image, or GParted LiveCD), then move the nandroid backup from the old card to new card, and restore
hope this helps
Danifamous touched on it...I had this problem when I first decided to root my desire. Your problem isn't needing a gold card
The phone is searching for a EXT partition on the SD card. Chances are you don't have it if the SD is new. Either make one...Linux or amonra recovery are good and easy options - I used amonra the other day when I had problems.
I'm not sure but you might be able to get away without wipes...of course the new SD will be formatted though

Hi
I'm having issues with sticking a new SD card in my Rooted Desire. I am running the NeoPhyTe Mod v1.8 Sense-FroYo 2.2 ROM, and it seems great (before I was running Pays Desire Rom which had the same problem).
My old 4gb card was partitioned with 512mb for Apps to SD (I can't even remember how I did this now, but I seem to recall it being really easy), and worked flawlessly. The new card can be seen in Windows 7 when I go into recovery on the phone and select mount USB Storage, and I seem to be able to get into it to format the card, but when I reboot, the phone hangs at the HTC screen. There is nothing on the card apart from the ROM I installed.
I've tried partitioning it in Recovery with ADB/Clockwork, but Parted will not load/work. I've tried...well, everything I could find over the last 4 hours to try to sort this out. It should be a simple task, surely!?
All I'm trying to do is put in a new 16gb card, partition it for Apps2SD and reinstall my backed up apps. I have been trying to do this since 9am (it is now 12.50pm), and my head is well and truly done in. Can anyone help? Please? I am at my wits end!
logcat is log
If you hang on the HTC Splash screen, a good place to start is always
Code:
adb logcat
Do this simple job..put da 16gb mem crd in card reader and connect with pc...partition it using paragon parititon manager or easeus partition manager...now freshly install a rom on this card..i m sure it will work flawlessly...n offcourse you can restore ur apps by transferring da backup to new card and restoring frm backups using backup manager or any backup software...

Hello guys, very very sorry if this is a repost. I've had a quick search but i can't spend my entire days searching. Apologies also if this is in the wrong section.
Please read and comment on my abbreviated story
Was running telstra branded froyo
Now running Leedroid (just did it yesterday)
Used ROM manager to partition the SD card, worked fine for a while, until i got silly 'read only' errors which i'd never seen before.
Tried to reformat the SD card. Lost some apps and decided to start over hard resetting everything because i'd lost everything that had moved to the swap partition...
Cleared the partitions on the SD card and rewrote them into a 10gb fat32, 2gb ext3 and a 2gb swap
Reflashed leedriod with another smaller card - works ok.
Tried my big card again and it didn't boot, stuck at the boot screen forever.
Put small SD card back in and it works... but some apps are now mising such as rom manager, titanuim backup, and the other things which i'm not familiar with.
WTF is going on. My head is throbbing! arrrrrrrgh
have i partitioned my card correctly?
Maybe try and partition the card in another way. rom manager did
work for me but ive also had similar problems before. Try the g-parted
method if you can get youre head around it, just try and format/partition
the card while its out of the phone because for me, thats what gave me the
exact same problems you mentioned.
If you ever want to back up the apps from sd-ext (apps2sd) you can
use titanium backup. I was in this same boat recently and found that the
easyest way. Also i dont see the need for any swap partition but i could be
wrong.
i use: 1gb ext3, 0 swap and the rest fat32 (16gb card)
good luck
So you flashed Leedroid A2SD+ with your "smaller card" in the phone?
And you just swapped the card to the "bigger one"?
In that way, the only way to make it work is creating a NANDROID backup with your "smaller" functioning card and copy that to the "bigger" one (must be in the same folder!).
Then put the card (bigger one) and do a full wipe & restore the NANDROID backup you've made previously.
Also, ROM manager is a piece of cr*p in partitioning, i had issues until i used GParted to create the partitions and no problems since.
It's funny you should mention this. I've had the exact same problem.
Small SD card works, big SD card doesn't work after being partitioned using ROM Manager. It gets stuck at the bootscreen for ever, and ever.
I will do some more testing when I get the chance.
Hey champs, i put the big sd back in the computer, turned it all back into fat32 and it works just fine.
Then i used rom manager to partition - 512 ext and 256 swap.. not enough imo, (crappy fkin desire fault). Might leave it for now... unless that read only disk thiing happens again
Cheers for the reply guys
Hi,
I have been using HTC Desire A8183 for a while and have just swapped to A8181 for Optus network. I have taken out my 32Gb Card from the A8183 and placed it in the new A8181 after I have rooted and flash AmonRA V2.0 recovery. Except I cannot get into recovery from Vol - plus Power button unless I wait a long time for it to look for PD99DIAG.ZIP image which it does not find. If I put a smaller 2Gb sd card in it is fine and goes through to recovery quickly.
Can someone please help and steer me in the right direction, is it a problem with the SD card, am I missing something?
And yes its the new Desire PVT4 (40000) if this makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.
Have a look on your 32GB card for the PD99 file. I guess it is sorting through it if there is one. If it's bothering you that much, backup your SD card, then just format it and see if that works. But please backup.
Thanks I had a look and could not see the File, should it be in the root of the sdcard?

the PB files are stock images and unless you have one on the SD card it shouldn't find one. The only time you'd use a PB99IMG.zip is when flashing it after extracting it from an RUU as you can't get an RUU to run
You also can't change from from A8181 to A8183
Thanks For your input and understand what you are saying I just don't know why my phones spend 10 minutes scanning for this image before loading the recovery. It should see there is no file and go straight to the recovery. Funny thing is I put a 2gb micro SD in with nothing in it and no problems straight into recovery, put my 16gb or 32gb micro SD in and I have to wait for this process of searching for this pb99diag image and nhh file etc. I don't understand is it the large size micro SD causing this?

I am also having this problem, but it started only after I partitioned my SD card with GPart into EXT, Swap and FAT32 partitions and then installed the MIUI FROYO ROM

Sorry to comment on my own post but I resolved the above problem by doing a Clockworkmod backup, Wiping User data & Dalvik cache and then flashing xavierjohn22's "MIUI XJ A2SD/A2SD+ 1.3.25 - 2.3 x1"
This was a PIA as I had to re install Titanium Backup, but then, at least I was able to use it to recover most of my data and apps from the TB backup made before my Superuser became corrupt.
The upside is that I now have the Excellent Gingerbread version of MIUI.
I have the SD card that came with phone, which is locked to t-mob. I got a 2nd 2 gig card and formatted that and did the gold card thing, now I have the orig SD card in. Is phone still carrier unlocked? If I downgrade and install Rom from the 2 gig card and then put the 8 gig card in will it still work?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I take it , the t-mobile is the 8GB card ??, You should be able to format that anyway - if it is 'locked ' there will be a work around.
- (can you explain sd card locked to me ??- or are you saying that this 8gb sd card has the tmobile rom on - but is editible (ie - you cant take and add stuff to it freely)
( if your saying your PHONE IS LOCKED TO T-MOBILE - then its not to hard to sim -unlock and flash roms too, )
!!! TOP TIP - DONT UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE VERSION AS PAST A CERTAIN SW VERSION A DOWNGRADE WILL BE REQUIRED TO S- off, Sim unlock ect - YET !!!
Ok - your trying to do similar to I have done. Once you have downgraded and installed/flashed a new rom of your choice from your new 2gb card then I cant see a reason why you cant remove your 2gb card and insert the 8gb Tmobile sd.
This should have no massive effect other than your loss of the original tmobile rom and settings.
Be advised though once you start messing with your phone - you'll invalidate you warranty.
Is this phone on contract or from an ended contract ...are you free to do with it what u want ??, ie unlock and use on any network ??
Ive just got an ORANGE BRANDED HTC Desire HD- which was an unwanted upgrade. This was obviously locked to Orange( with orange rom on sd ), I got another sd card, gold carded it, downloaded a rom - placed on this sd and flashed, then put back in my orange sd and it hasnt effected the phone at all..... (you can just wipe you t-mobile sd once youve installed a new rom, Normal format - not fast - use again - then back up you new installed rom to that 8gb card - then you back to using your 8gb card)
If you have an unwanted upgrade or an out of contract phone I d highly recommend flashing a new rom to it, these branded roms(orange rom, tmobile rom ect ect) are full of bloatware and often limited and slow compared to the DEV Roms, even a move to a stock HTC rom will show a great improvement.

thank you for the info,
the 8gig card that came with phone has all my camera images of my boy, and apps i have downloaded from market, and any other stuff that is saved to the sd card, so i didnt want to format it to make a goldcard, that i why i used the 2 gig card as goldcard, and lan to use that same 2 gig card to flash roms from, then just re-insert the 8 gig card to have all my apps and images (will apps work after a new rom flashed? or will i need to re download them?)
Plug your 8gb sd into a sd card holder and plug into your pc, explore the sd card, you should find your photo's in gallery, there should also be a folder called apps backup - all your apps should be in there, also check the download folder - you may find some are in there also. just check that youve found every thing you want to save, copy it to a pc - and then you can overwrite that card
ps. the apps in the apps backup folder on your 8gb, can be saved to your pc, you can then wipe the card, goldcard it, downgrade , route install rom ect and then simply put the apps backup folder back onto the 8gb card, then download astro or another android file explorer , look at your sd card when in your Desire - locate the apps backup folder and then just re-install them - no probs - THATS what Ive been doing - today - all works fine
Hi Guys,
I'm sort of new to all this Rooting/Flashing Process.
So any way I'll start. I tried to Root my HTC Desire HD the other day, but can't due to the fact the current stock rom that's installed doesn't seem to want to recognise the SD Card, as it think it's a Blank Card or Unsupported Filesystem. (Believe me I have no idea to get round this issue, as I've tried several Re-Formats of this SD Card, and I have tried other SD Cards, but if you put any in my phone then back into the PC, You have to reformat it so you loose your stuff) So basically any SD Card you put in My Desire HD, Screws it up. Meaning after you even try and format it on my Phone or even a PC, you loose all of your stuff straight away.
Anyway back to my question. Since I'm unable to Root my phone, Am I able to just download ROM Manager from play store, and Flash the recovery so I can Wipe my phone completely and install A new ROM? Or since my phone won't detect my SD Card, Will it brick my phone or screw it up if I do flash the recovery and wipe anything? (By the way, I've got the phone to recognise the SD Card once or twice, but after a few hours, even after using the phone perfectly to take videos, pictures Music ETC, it wants to reformat it again due to the fact the phone thinks it's an Unsupported Filesystem). I'm not sure if this SD Issue is Hardware or Software Related, But I would have my money on Both, but I'm just not Sure.
Your help would be really appreciated guys. Thanks.
You can only flash a recovery if you can write to a partition. You need to root with either HTCDEV or AAHK to write to a partition.
