How to remove news and weather from froyo ota? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't find where it is.

This is the only thing left for me to remove. I tried the following but no luck:
/system/bin/mv /system/app/com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apk /system/app/com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.apkb
/system/bin/mv /system/app/NewsReader.apk /system/app/NewsReader.apkb
/system/bin/mv /system/app/com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.odex /system/app/com.htc.NewsReaderWidget.odexb
/system/bin/mv /system/app/NewsReader.odex /system/app/NewsReader.odexb
Much appreciated if anyone can help. Thanks!

I think you are looking for GenieWidget.apk which is located in /system/app

[FIX] JP6 internet browser fix!!

hey guys ..here you are the web browser fix(less lag and more more speed) for Froyo JP6
now internet is faster than before....
unzip this and copy ''libwebcore.so'' to system/lib...- set the permissions of the file to rw.....DONE!
EDIT: ONLY FOR ROOT PHONES
it is from a Galaxy Tab rom.
unfortunately the browser will still use more memory than it should, but at least it will be fast.
it doesn't work with JPA!
thanks, going to try it right now or latest tomorrow morning
Can you tell us where you got this file please?

Properly from the Galaxy Tab firmware
http: // forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803370
They say it's from Galaxy Tab
Only jp6 ? Can i use it with jpm ?

And people who're having issues with the missing UA String in the JPK/JP6 browser, I recommend doing this fix.
http: // forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780896
I installed both the libwebcore.so and the browser.apk from link above, they both work fine together.

Only way to find out is to test it out yourself. But I don't think there will be any reason why it wouldn't work.

and if for some odd reason it doesn't work it's not like it's hard to go back
do have to say by the way that I've really come to appreciate the XDA people, I never have to make a post or ask for anything, my problems are always solved by the time I log on to the forums
Wow thats like day and night, just tried with & without (vice versa)..ofcourse cache/history cleaned..much much better with it
This does not work in JPA, browser crashes on launch (I'm using this browser APK with UAString that was working find before): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8651451&postcount=4
Any thoughts on why it wouldn't work??

Yep same problem here, too bad I thought that the ROMs would be similar enough that they should work.
Anybody have the original one handy? I stupidly forgot to back mine up
Thanks, works great on JPM.
Hey
It didn't work for me on JPA either but I noticed my original libwebcore.so had the permissions set as "-rwxrwxr-x" ... I know I give chmod "644" to set the persmission as "-rw-r--r--" but what number would I send chmod to try setting the permissions mentioned above ("-rwxrwxr-x") and I'll give that a try.
Thank you!

Great, it would also be really nice if there was a list of all apk's with their function. I'd love to know what wssomacp.apk does
Also, in the Yet Another Battery Drain thread is a description how to delete email.apk without causing FC's to barcodescanner and similar apps.

It is for "carrier sms system configuration" as you can see in this guide made by nitr8. There's also a more complete one from Doc's thread.

Well... that "text notification" on the lock screen is Missed It! from the Market. The user is using that in conjunction with Widget Locker. For mClock, make sure you are extracting the .zip file and then only placing that folder in the mClock folder in /sdcard/mClock/FolderName. (i.e., not the zip, just the extracted contents).
thank you very much !!!

[OFFICIAL THREAD] Getting the LG QRemote from 5.0 Korean update working on AOSP 5.x

***OFFICIAL THREAD FOR THIS ISSUE FOR THE OPTIMUS G PRO E980***
I have the necessary APKs and other files to make a flashable zip, however whenever I try to flash it it succeeds but when I click on quickremote, the app force closes on me and will not load. How can we successfully get this to work on lollipop? I have posted several times in the forums but nobody seems to care about helping get this done.
Here is a the link to my pasted logcat relating to this error. I uploaded it to pastebin.

I replied to one of your posts on another thread. @Snepsts and I are attempting to figure this out at the moment through PM's and such. I will make a thread for it if we get anywhere with it.
I pasted a logcat on pastebin and put the link in the OP
Are you sure, you got all files? Odex file? Another part of the apk? Set the right permissions? Do you use a custom screen density?

Check your inbox BTW. I just sent you a message.
Code:
03-02 12:34:40.312 E/AndroidRuntime(4334): java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Failed resolution
by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: Didn't find class "com.lge.systemservice.core.LGContext" on path: DexPathList[[zip file "/system/app/LGQRemote.apk"],nativeLibraryDirectories=[/vendor/lib, /system/lib]]
First is why I asked about density. Try it out with stock density of the G3
2nd: Those are the patha I'd go diggin. Maybe gonna explain a bit closer/have a closer look tomorrow. Got to sleep now.^^
Amything new here? Have you already searched in the fokders I "mentioned"?
I'm back and trying to get this working once more. It is so odd that the way they got this working on the G2 and G3 does not work on ours. It makes me think that the stock LG ROM with lollipop for the G Pro is just a bunch of hacks LG threw into a zip file which just makes this even more difficult. I'm not going to give up yet though. If anyone else has any suggestions please PM me. I would gladly appreciate more ideas.

@Sunandroid, how can I get the odex files without installing the ROM myself. Is there a way to accomplish this?

Not sure, but it should be doable by unpacking the roms zip.

I am pretty sure the odex files are generated when the ROM is installed. This means I need to have someone who has the ROM working to get them to me.. The zip only has the files from the system partition.

Yeah, and the odes files usually are in system partition. Post a link to the ROM, you want to ectract the remote from, please. Gonna dig in there next weekend if O got the time.

Nah, I needed it to port Google Sans for the Pixel Launcher 'At A Glance' widget. And now it's working!
I don't have a Pixel 2 btw, hence the request. Thanks again!

Do you mind if I request another file? If I could get the files in /system/vendor/overlay, that would be wonderful!
How are you getting these files without root?
If you have root, how did you obtain it?

Extracting system files doesn't require root as long as the permissions are rw-r-r (0644). To extract it, you can use any file manager that lets you browse the root folder. From there you can copy the files to the internal storage.

On that note, can I request the SystemUIGoogle in /system/priv-app too? It seems that the quick settings icons' edges are rounded compared to AOSP's sharp edges.
The directory is too large to upload, even after breaking the zip file into 4 pieces. Do you have an account (Dropbox, Google Drive, etc.) I can send them to? Or a system I could ftp the zip file?
