Just got this through on Twitter! He has only had them for an hour and a half and he has them both rooted!
Fantastic work!
What's the background of this person? Any evidence yet?
EDIT: He probably knows what he is doing
Congratulations Paul, I'd love to see how he did it!

Hi,
Sorry to be such a noob but what are the advantages of rooting?
And if I was thinking of doing it, why would I?
Sorry again ... I am a newbie
@Raminder1992
Plenty of advantages to root but in order to understand them and the whole process you need to search the forums with reference to other handsets to give you an idea, if we answer your questions it only leads to more new members posting basic questions in what is a development forum that currently is hanging on what happens next with the desire rooting process.
In other words click the search button and take some time to read or you'll just annoy those of us that desperate for progress on this handset.

Simple:
root=administrative rights to the system........ basically the same thing in your computer when you have administrative account...
normal mode is like a normal windows user account where you have possibility to (un)install software but you cannot change the system
So the final piece in the puzzle is about to be delivered. I'm buying it!

there are many, many reasons, but to give a few examples. firstly, those of us not in regions where google allow us to access the paid apps, we can change that by a few parameter settings, we can also change where we're from, if a developer wanted to block out our region, for whatever reason. after that, when you look even further, there are plenty of apps on the market that require root to work properly, there's one that allows you specify what apps launch on startup, there's a firewall that allows you control what connects through your data plan, there's a flashlight that keeps your camera flash on and many, many more. without root, these things don't work properly, because they don't have the right permissions.
for me, the reasons above are good, but not the main reason. for me, where I work, we use a LEAP wireless security system that (I think) all Android devices can connect to, without a problem. unfortunately though, the Android developers haven't added that option to the wireless config GUI. this isn't a problem if I get root, because then I can just edit the config file and change one line. without root, though, I don't have wireless connection during a good part of every day, which sucks.

For the ADSL.
some router haven't pppoe inside.
just like a invisible wire.
some wifi ask you to provide the username and password
computer can do it very easy because it has the pppoe dial-up
but your phone haven't
use this software you can do it just like a computer's dial.
special purpose.
Lets say my friend has a wife thats password protected.
He gives me the pass. In order to connect to his wifi should i use this app?

Nice, password protecting your wife could be useful.
Is they any way to change the host name for my Desire's wifi address? Because when connected to a wireless router it uses the IMEI number in the host name. Android_IMEI
I don't think there is... There might be in an xml somewhere though, but is it really important?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

I don't really no. I've seen people not post there IMEI number on forums for some reason. If your connected to a public wifi router they could see your phones IMEI.
I just thought if there was an easy way to change it then I would, but it doesn't bother me that much.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Why do people always mistake the S and ours -.-"
I mean, it's not like there's a picture on the main forum, that differs us from the S.

Ranting aside, from what I know is that the MAC address is tied to your wireless adapter, so changing it might prove difficult.
