hi, just bricked my desire, maybe anyone could sugest any solution? :/
yes i have to tips for you:
1.) provide SOME INFORMATION about what happened, or else how are we to know what went wrong?
2.)use the search engine
i was unpartitioning sd card to fat32 with AMDesireRecovery and after it finished desire just hang up
but i have already mannaged to unbrick it
Then it wasnt really bricked
When will people stop using the term "Brick" incorrectly?
It almost impossible to brick the desire
Totally off topic, and it's ok cos the OP has fixed his problem!
dneill, I see your in Lisburn. Small world! I lived there for 26 years, am in Portadown now.

Ok so I have a 8925. Love it, but don't want all the AT&T on it so I figured I would flash it....well I ran into the problem where none of the flashing software I have found will work with Linux. I am running Ubuntu and cannot get any of the flashers to work. Also I have STILL having a hard time connecting my 8925 to my computer because of the Ubuntu OS.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also is the 8925 info in the Hermes sub-category? or the Herald? I have seen info in both and was a little confused. Sorry if this is the wrong section.
go to Kaiser forum for 8925

Ok so you're new AND you've got better phone than me - I'm incredibly jealous so please go away - here is probably the best place to go to http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser.
Oh yes, welcome to the forum and enjoy
thanks. the only reason I have a better phone is because my mom got it....lol im 22 and in college and needed a new phone (since my 8525 got ran over by a car) so I told my mom she would LOVE this one, the 8925. She bought it and couldnt figure out how the hell to do anything with it so I traded he my older RAZR for the 8925....lol
Thanks and love you mom....lol
You've probably gone to the right forum now, but if by any chance you read this. you should google for flashing from SD card.
this should help you to get round the issues of the flashing software being written for M$ Windows.
all you basicly do is extract the rom/radio image from the executable put it on the root of your SD card with a file name and boot your phone into bootloader mode (IIRC)
no need to use the PC so should resolve your issues.
(wow well done not getting flammed for that post btw... this isn't the friendliest forum in the world!)
BTW also... well done on that phone swap trick... my dad is often good for that kinda fun and games
I know, I know, I know...
I am a member of a few different forums for other things and there is always a neb that comes on and asks a question that has been beat to death.
I have heard that God kills a kitten ever time someone post a thread before doing a search on what you are trying to get answered. So for my sake, God's sake and that poor kitten sake, I did read through a lot of post before I had the sack to post this question
I am posting this question because there seems to be a lot of different answers to a lot of different questions, so, I was hoping for very direct answers to these questions that I know have been asked plenty of times...
Here it goes...
I have purchased the HTE EVO w/ android 2.2 and I have had it for about 2 weeks.
I want to root my phone, which is my first ever smart phone.
This is what I would like to happen...
1) I want to be able to have the restore point so that I can flash my phone back to stock so that if something happens the warranty will still be good.
* Does this save on my home pc or sdcard? Or Both?
I have read that you need to download here not there(ruu...clockworks/rom manager)...no here not there...If you download anything but this you will not be able to get it back to the stock setting and Sprint will know you have rooted the phone...The whole thing started to get a little confusing.
I am a very simple person so I am hoping for a very simple answer, if there is one.
1) How do I root my HTC EVO that has the android 2.2?
2) How do I make sure that I can have a recovery point incase I mess it up (brick, etc...)
3) How do I make sure that I can flash my phone back to the original settings just incase I have to send it in to be fixed for some reason, which rom manager lets me do this?
4) Is it legal to do this?
5) What might be the biggest no-no to do before, during and after you root your phone?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Visit the wiki, that should answer most of your answers.
1. Rooting voids warranty
2. Always perform a nand backup if you want to revert to your previous state.
Visit the wiki, the instructions are simple.
EDIT: Actually the wiki will answer all of your answers.

Sorry for the silly ? But what is the wiki?
It is a sticky in Android Development called Evo Wiki. You have to put effort in searching, I believe in you!

DO NOT RUN UNREVOKED OR YUO COULD PERMANENTLY CORRUPT YOUR PHONE!!!!! at the moment, there is no brainless way of doing it. you need to manually set up the adb and usb drivers, and then do some coding work, along with downloading like 1/3 gig of files.
Hi all,
I am giving this a deadline of one week, if I don't have it unlocked in one week I will be putting a video on youtube of the phone being destroyed at my discretion
Hold me to it if you like, its useless to me as is anyway plus it was free so I don't care
I have tried to follow every guide I could find, I have what seems to be a really painful phone.
I cannot get the GOLDCARD done, no such luck, it seems to not see the SD cid at all!
If someone could please give me a link to the most basic guide ( I mean the DUMB guide where if you scratch your nose its in the guide) because I am either missing a step or something is wrong.
Then on top of that my phone is locked to Telstra (an Australia company) and the HBOOT is 0.93.xxxx so I have also tried to downgrade with NO LUCK, again a dumb-dumb guide please because I am over trying to work out whats wrong with this phone.
I have used the Downgrade2.3 and the unrevoked3 plus a few others with no luck.
HELP PLEASE!! i'm losing my mind here
The phone is a month old but I am at the end with it already.
Search for gold card helper on android market, its by far the easiest way

There is a sim unlock utility. You do realise that there is a search feature for the forum right?
I do realise there is a search feature on this forum, and after a solid day of searching I have given up looking and posted, I am at the point of make it or break it, either way I will enjoy the outcome
Solution
Try this solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943726
No rooting, goldcard or anything else. It took several attempts but I managed to unlock my phone.
after some research unrevoked3 seems to be the easiest way to root my HTC Desire.
but there are no instructions on how to use it... i know you just download the software and install the drivers etc... but i mean what state does it leave my phone in?
will it have all of its text messages saved, settings saved, etc...
will my sd card be wiped completely should i back it up? should i buy a cheap one to root it with etc...
i know 2.3 is coming out soon for HTC Desire but my phones branded with vodafone. should i just debrand it and wait for an offical update?
ive been wanting to root my phone for a while but ive got no idea which roms are best or anything.
how do i back up my sd card? how do i save my texts to the sd card for back up?
any help will be appreciated thanks.
Hi welcome to the site. There is a wealth of information in these forums and sometimes it is hard to single out exactly what you are looking for. Read this to start and then ask some specific questions. Seek much advice before rooting yourself.
i was there 3 months ago and now i flash and customise with reckless abandonment!
Unrevoked3 is definitely the easiest way. You can find quick guide for this method in Cyanogenmod wiki 'Full Update Guide' (google it)...
hi , just follow these vids , it makes it really easy

No. You might do yourself a favor by creating a goldcard and keeping it safe.
Hello everyone, I just got a problem last night. I tried to permroot my G2 using Visionary+ and once it rebooted it got stuck on the HTC loadup screen. I have done a factory reset and have gone into recovery mode but when I do go into recovery mode, I get a droid phone with an exclamation mark in the middle and it just stays there.
I don't know many details about the phone other than what I can tell you from the HBOOT menu, I'd rather avoid sending it back in for a warranty repair unless I can just get to the normal screen where I can unroot it, I don't care who you are I just need help on what to do because I have no idea :\
Thanks guys, you're my last hope >:|
First off, this is why you DO NOT use visionary. Well documented to brick phones:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025135
You can start off trying to recover your brick by looking at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842495
You might as well have written that in chinese, I have no idea what any of this means. it's S-ON and it won't go into recovery mode.
Walk me through what I need to do..? :\
So I had a thought, if I could use a friends Android which, Idk the model to, but could I just uninstall Visionary from there? Would that do anything at all?

You cant really uninstall visionary if you cant even boot up your phone. Right now the rom is corrupted and you need to follow an unbricking guide like the one mentioned above

What are you talking about? Connecting your phone to your friend's phone? It doesn't work that way.
Alright everyone, I called T-Mobile and I'm having a new phone by tomorrow, there's nothing I can do as, I have no idea how to fix my corrupted ROM,
I tried following the unbricking guide but I can't so much as get my phone detected by my computer to even do anything with it.
And another noob bites the dust

You really need to research before you try to root your phone. Like a lot of research.
and when you brick it, you need to research to try and un-brick it. This stuff is easy, but its tedious, and if you're not ready to deal with hours of trying to fix your phone, you shouldn't been rushing into rooting.
All of the info is in that thread. Dozens of people have followed it and recovered their semi-brick.

Agree with everything you said. One click roots can be dangerous and tempting, as they lure people to an easy method, without having to learn the basics . . . and that's how the trouble starts. Especially when the one click root method is known to result in possible semi bricks.
If anybody wonders why HTC tried going to locked bootloaders, or constantly trying to increase the security against rooting, situations like this is why. People not wanting to make an effort to root by proper methods, or fix their mistakes, and claiming a "warranty issue".
