Hi everybody, I just recently found out that all froyo rom ports are giving me only 2MB/s copying speeds on my class6 sd card. The only exception is DJ DROID rom (and roms based on this rom) on which I was able to copy files with a speed of 10MB/s.
I would like to ask some dev if they know the culprit to this.
It would be good if you guys can give me your speeds, and give me this infos to see if its only me or a general behavior:
Conditions of the test: connect your Desire to the PC (the best would be with a windows OS) via USB cable (select USB mass storage) and copy 1 large file (more then 100MB, for example 700MB .avi file) from your PC to root of the SDcard and post here the results:
- speed of the copying process
- class of sd card
- rom u are using
- size of the copied file
- OS of the PC
For measuring the speed u can use Total Commander.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Conclusion:
So looks like I was right, on all froyo roms (except dj droid, which is sense rom) the USB mass storage is somehow crippled.
It would be great if some dev could look at the issue and try to find out why is it not working like it should.
Anybody willing to do it?
Please re-run the tests according to the given conditions and edit your posts, thanks.
Noticed the same
Speed: 2 MB/s
Card: Sandisk 32GB Class 2
Rom: DeFrost 2.0b
One of my mates have the same card, with stock rom non rooted, and gets like 15 MB/s transfer speed :S
So it looks like its not only me, I will add mine:
Speed: 1,8 MB/s
Card: Transcend 8GB class6
Rom: OpenDesire 1.6a
File: 700MB .avi
PC: win7
Speed: 1.5 MB/s
Card: 8GB class 4
Rom: OpenDesire 1.6a

Yes, eclair
maybe some eclair user can test his speed with the Mass Storage mountet normally and then with the sd split widget! I think Froyo uses the same way.If yes it should be a small code to change this =)

Hmm. Class 2 is rated for 16Mbit/s (2Mb/s). You got yourself quite a good one there!
Actualy class 2 means a MINIMUM write rate of 2MB/s It's a lot faster most of the times .
Speed : 7-10MB/s (depends of data type transferred)

On Ahmgsk Froyo+Sense
Write Speed: 4.25Mb/s
Read Speed : 6.43Mb/s
Kingston 16Gb Class 10
Houston, we have a problem on Sense+Froyo as well
When i plug the sd directly to the pc (ie without using the phone as bridge) i get the proper speeds.
So that means that its working correctly only on eclair 2.1 and DJ droids froyo.
We need someone to check it out.
This benchmark topic is a good idea, but imho it lacks a modus operandi.
Depending on OS's, buffering may or may not occur, transfer rates may be average rates or not...
Are we talking about Read/write on the phone ? Between a computer and the phone plugged in as mass storage ? May both differ ?
I get around 2mbs if i'm writing in mass storage mode from a computer. I also get 2mbs if i'm uploading to the phone using switfp server on the phone and filezilla client on the computer side (over my LAN wifi)
This is not a benchmark topic, the main purpose is to find the problem of slow writing speeds to microSD card while using USB mass storage. The posted speeds where just to show that the problem is there. If anyone knows a volunteer who would like to look at the issue, please direct him to this thread. Its a pain in the a$$ to copy some file to card.
Well phentex has a point though...we might have a better global picture of the phenomenon by specifying the conditions in which every test is performed..for example, maybe we should not even assume that everyone knows which files to use to properly test write and read speeds on a recordable medium and make clear that it is advisable to use a single large file...Mikulec, yours the thread and the good idea, yours the choice

As many posts already speak about that. Here are the .cab that work (P3300, ARTEMIS, with WM6)
MOST IMPORTANT is to format your actual SD card and future SDHC card with fat32 ! (backup data before)
DONT NEED TO FORMAT IF YOUR CARD IS ALREADY FORMATED WITH THIS FILE FORMAT.
You can then use any fat32 card you want after SDHC upgrade.
WM5torage 1.78b is working fine but slow for me after SDHC upgrade. Tell us if it run for you too.
Artemis running WM5 could be flashed too, with Certification .cab (.xml inside). I will post a link as soon as possible.
ANSWER!! Yes WM5torage is very slow, as it is not working as usual. Don't know if the creator of this program gonna upgrade it for SDHC use. This software is not so important for the use of your SDHC Card, that was just to say that it could work (very slow) with new SDHC drivers.
[WARNING] There was some problems after this install. Tell me if you got problems using this .cab --> SDHC_Artemis_back2original.cab are the original OMAP850.dll, SDBus.dll, SDMemory.dll for Artemis, so you can load it at any time to go back to your original settings without SDHC support.
[WARNING] there is a problem if you plan to flash with SDHC card inserted on your device. With USB wire too. Remove your SDHC card before flashing or hard resetting your device.
I m the first one to get it.
I've got it
Thanks

6 Gb Sandisk Micro Sdhc, Htc P3300, Original Wm6
IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just bought the phone upgraded the ROM with original HTC WM6 ROM. Used the file as above. Pluged in my Micro SD and it works!!!!!!!
I had phoned HTC support for help as I bough the 6GB SDHC card when i bought the phone but couldnt get it to work, but was then told it doesnt support SDHC!
BUT IT DOES NOW!!!!
finally 4GB working on my P3300 WM6 (original HTC rom)
hoooooowever, the transfer through wm5torage is veeeeeeeeeeeeeeery slow!
sais 2h. for 1GB thats way off normal. wasn't that slow with my 2GB card (didn't try the 2GB card with new driver tho)
anyways, when i got everything on my new 4GB card, i am gonna do some benchmarks, try the card from the phone itself... and if it's just the USB transfer that is hella slow... i can take that.
btw, when i saw wm5torage 178beta so slow i tried 175. it works, but same slow speed
Thats a slow speed indeed. I have been copying files to fill my 6gb card since 6.45 just after my last post above. Its is now 7.40 and i have copied 1.7 GB.
Thats 1.7 gb an hour. Not a fantastic speed.
Im connected to a USB 2.0 port on my PC using Active Sync 4.5, connected directly to my P3300 (no cradle).
I didnt run all the files above though. All i ran was the first file SDHC_Artemic.cab
I didnt run the WM5torage file. Should i have?
Regardless it is working fine so far with out.

if you're used to transfer via active sync, you're perfectly fine.
wm5torage is just a program to convert your phone+sd card into some sort of "usb memory stick" so you can access your phones sd card on every computer without drivers.
merci bq

merci encore pour ce cab... ca reglera l'un des plus gros soucis de l'artemis

This great thanks for the file.
One question - If my current SD card is already fat32 do I need to reformat it and then install the patch or can I just install the patch and upgrade the SD card to an SDHC card later?
Thanks
Rich
First cab?
I can't download the first can file?
I get redirected to the login screen.
But i'm already login
ok, USB transfer was slow, but worked. gonna see next days how syncing goes.
so, this worked great... except on my p3300 the GPS stopped working. u think there is something in this cab patch that could have affected that somehow?

First of all, Hi. I am new to this fourm and found it very helpful. Anyway, I can confirm that this works for my "O2 XDA Orbit" with 6GB card (FAT32 formatting), it has windows mobile 6 and the ROM version is "3.4.206.2 WWE". I have checked my GPS and Wireless adapter, they both seem to be working fine aswell.
Just to mention the WM5Storage, even before the patch, it was very slow for moving information in and out of the PDA. So I think that it needs an update for WM6 although I haven't yet tried the version that is attached in the very first post becuase alot of people are complaining about it so I didn't even bother, I just used the card reader that came with my card.
Thanks gguyaz for your excellent work.
My Window mobile 6 is official one from o2 itself. Hope it helps

I have the HTC P3300 w/ WM5.
I just checked and only seen OMAP850_SDHC.dll.
The following is what I did to make this ROM flash by romupdate:
I'm at the moment still searching for the right hex address but when I replace the whole header of NBH file then I can flash it.
The only think is that the size of the storage in OS is then small.
Think with me to solve this issue.
I'm not familiar with hexediting file (i can do only if someone tell me how), but i need find way for flash rom < 50 Mb.
I'll try to ask in my gang
Can you tell me exactly what byte you changed and with which byte?
So this actually causes the size of the Storage to shrink? You no longer get the 60mb free that you did from doing it through the sd card?
Yes this is the problem.
The hex address that I change is 0x163 in NBH file.
At the moment our goal is to find a way around this storage limitation.

We could try tom's methode (change pagepool by activesync) but WM6.1 is not realy the OS to do that.
What I mean is:
1. Change the hex value in NBH.
2. Flash it.
3. Use tom's method but change the hex value of 0x163 address
But the issue is WM6.1

The Pagepool would only touch the Program Memory, not the storage memory.
We have to bypass the flasher's size requirement check.
What I mean by tom's method is that we change the hex value in NBH file then flash it. After that try to change the hex value using tom's method.
tom changes pagepool by activesync and we can change the size of storage by activesync.

hmm... interesting theory... Sounds promising!
EDIT: Just thought of something. Once it gets flash into the device it's no longer an NBH... it's more like a os.nb then... the hex value wouldn't exit there, then, would it?
We need to dump a ROM that's has not been modified and one that has and look at not only the os.nb but ALL of the files that the phone dumps. If you can flash by sd, you can do that. If not, then we'll have to install a ROM that's just big enough to pass the limit and one that's much bigger.
Actually increased storage isn't everything (though nice).. The less amount of files in the OS image the faster the ROM works. There is lot's of files in ROMs most people don't use. Even things like simply html based help files etc.. If this limit can be breached ROMs can be faster or filled with more stuff without comprimizing storage size.
I myself want to replace my Artemis this year and am tempted for the Kaiser, if only those videodrivers get fixed. Till then there is no capable replacement..

I know. That's why I make small clean ROMs only, but I figured that I might as well find a way around the limit since I loose so much empty space in my ROMs.
We have to figure out a way get the RUUupdateUtil to ignore that address... What was it originally and what did you change it to?
Storage Memory Reduced
Hi... I don´t know if this is the correct place to ask next question but I haven't found where to put it, so, I hope you can help me with this matter:
I have a Gigabyte GSmart i350 (256MB rom, 64MB ram, wm6) and storage capacity showed only 142.24MB, do you know if it is normal to be reduced that capacity?... I know 256MB on real store is 244MB, but it seems to be extremely reduced ... by the way, on a different topic, how could I start a Thread on this forum?... Thanks in advance...

That's not an Artemis, in fact I don't even know if it's an HTC phone. But as far as space goes, out of that 244mb, you have all the stuff that the manufacturer puts in there and then there's the OS and other stuff stored in it. Most phones have a shared memory for all storage, both your storage and system files. That DOES seem kind of low, though. You'll have to find a forum dedicated to that particular phone, though. Do you know who manufactures it? (Or does Gigabyte itself make it?)

It's a good idea, but with a problem...
tom's method rewrite an address in flash, this address is the same in OS.nb, so we can change pagepool size or in os.nb or on-the-fly with tom's method...
changes in nbh files have different results, becouse nbh is a compressed file that could include too much info that are written in flash... In this case, the address 0x163 is only for ruu, but not really written directly in flash...
we must know where is storage this value in flash!!!

In fact, i've tried another thing:
creating an nbh file with only os, at address 0x162-0x163 correspond values D4 02
creating an nbh file with radio, splash and os, the values D4 02 don't correspond to address 0x162-0x163 but they are in address 0x16A-0x16B
It means this part of nbh informs ruu.exe what (and where) is included in the file, but how ruu.exe processes this info is not clear...

We have to modify how the RUUUpdateUtility acts after checking that memory address. I've been trying to track the file through a debugger but thus far have had no luck.
Waiting RUU solution, i flashed using Cesconoa method HERE, that solved problem for SD flashing not running with slow SD.
Not the best i could obtain, but it's good result.

WM5torage has no effect on flashing by SDcard.
This software changes application layer settings. SDcard flashing is a lower level access then wm5torage.

I try to be more clear:
with most popular SD card we are not able to flash from SD: they are too great and for this slow to go on (probabily need more energy).
WM5Torage is used to create partition on SD from PC.
With a little partition (i used 1 Gb Sd for make 2 partition 100/900 mb) we are able to flash from SD. With single partition 1 Gb i'm not able to do it.
I have a 2GB sdcard High speed (not a SDHC) 2gb partition and it works.

Chapters of this tutorial:
[1]Formatting SD card
[2]Installing Froyo X red
[3]Installing Camera
[4]Finishing up
Downloads
1 Froyo X Red
2 kernel+libs
3 Haret+Startup.txt-Ts-Calibration
4 If having problems with booting android try this startup.txt
[1]Formatting SD card
Easy as pie.
put your memory card in a sd card reader (your blackstone will do fine) and plug it in your pc/laptop.
open My pc and look for your memory card and right click on it.
Click Format
make sure FAT32 is selected and click ok
Ok great Sd card is formatted and ready to go. no lets move on..
[2]Installing froyo X Red /B]
ok first things first download Froyo X Red and Haret+Startup.txt-Ts-Calibration.
Then unpack Froyo X Red to the root of your memory card(root means on your memory card not in an folder on your memory card)
Then open up Haret+Startup.txt-Ts-Calibration and copy all the files to the root of your memory card.
Now unmount your Blackstone or Sd card reader from your pc.Put the Sd card in your blackstone(if it isnt already there) navigate to your storage card and open the file Haret
Now it shoud just give you a bunch of text and a little linux penguin let it load for a while(note: It coud take some minutes so dont think it wont boot)
it shoud boot. now follow the set-up and sync your google account.then turn off your blackstone and reboot it.so it boots in windows mobile again.when its in windows mobile go to the next step!
[3]Installing Camera
so android working accordingly everything set up but still no camera..
its time to change that
download kernel+libs
simply unpack the zip to your memory card..
overwrite zImage
thats that your done. enjoy android with working camera!
[4]Finishing up
this isnt really a neccesary step but I do recommend it.
open up spare parts and set the Window animation and Transition animation to Fast
and your done! have fun with your brand new Android phone..
dont forget to check this thread for updates!
MOD EDIT: Download Links removed!
+1
good idea
thx
Nederlandse computer
I'll wait for NAND on blackstone. I only have one SD and i don't want to format it (music and stuff on it).
Haha Inderdaad nederlander
I will update and finish it this afternoon hope I get to it. And again I dont intent to claim this as my own android build. It is not mine!

they work fine for me?
HI
when i´m going to installing update, copy Haret and Startup but after that i cant execute de haret....tell " not fidedigne....re-install"
what doing wrong?
EDIT: re-formatting and done.....thks
let see ......MMS works ?
ok, i have a little question here: since the sd card needs to be formatted, i want to be prepared. the last time i tried android on the blackstone, was in december with an older froyo version and had a few issues:
since it goes in the root of the sd card and comes with a lot of folders and files, it really messed up my sd card structure, which i need for winmo, i want to continue using both os. is it possible to partition the sd card to split up android from winmo?
say, i'd split up 2gb as a primary partition for android and another 6gb for music and videos... so that in case i need to format the sd card again for newer android builds, i only need to format one partition?
also, does winmo recognize this as 2 sd cards, so i can still run AutoInstall, 2577 and other stuff from either partition? (assuming that android will be the first partition, winmo needs access to the 2nd partition)
edit: never mind, figured it out. due to the fact that windows only recognized the first logical or primary partition of an sd card as a drive, you can assign a drive letter to, it all became much too complicated, since i would have needed constant access to both partitions. therefor, i copied haret and all the android stuff in the folder "andboot" on the sd card and run it from there without messing up too much of my existing structure. also, this release is so stable, i probably won't encounter the same issues as before and don't need to fear major hangups and hard resets.

Hi,
I want to install Android on my HTC Touch Pro and I want to also do that Dual Boot program. Problem is that I can't get android to work.
I downloaded Android, and it is not installing well. After I boot, the top bar of the Android comes, but it seems all grainy, and my mobile restarts :/ I tried changing to a different RAPH startup.txt, but it just crashes in the middle -.-

Any ideas anybody?!
Don't try changing to a different startup.txt! Make sure you're using the right file for your phone model. You could also try simply redownloading XDANDROID.
Which RAPH do you have?
Perhaps you need to read the FAQ.
Also, 1) don't take huge pics and post them to a thread - resize them and provide links if anything, although the pics seem useless TBH. 2) post in the build thread, don't create a new thread. Thanks.
@Ben_duder
I downloaded so many lol
@arrrgh
Thanks for that FAQ page, I know I have a RAPH100 now
1. Didn't notice how big they were until I posted them
2. Link to thread pls
Thanks for the help till now every1
EDIT: My download doesn't have RAPH100, but RAPH, RAPH500 and RAPH800 -.-
Is RAPH equivilant to RAPH100?
EDIT2: Ok, so i finally got a RAPH100 one, and it was installing. The last message was 'mp_dma : busy'
It kept on going after a bit, until screen calibration, i didn't even have the time to calibrate, as it kept on going.
Only to get 'stuck' on mp_dma : busy...again
Whilst writing this, it started again....only to get 'stuck'.....AGAIN...on mp_dma : busy....AGAIN!!
Is it normally like that? Does this site have live shat or smthn? Or can some1 PM their MSN/Skype so I can have 'live help' lol
Yes, it is "normal". What shouldn't be normal is the fact that you can't find the RAPH100 startup in the full bundle from THIS thread(for FroYo) or THIS thread (for Gingerbread). Keep in mind, FroYo is more complete and Gingerbread is still in alpha stages even though it seems more "stable" than FroYo.
Additionally, if you just want to be able to boot, the magic number we are looking for is 10 minutes. However, if you aren't getting to the XDAndroid boot animation, this might mean you aren't doing something right. Also, you'll need to grab the ts-calibration file for your device from either thread and put it in the same folder as haret
Hmm, I seem to have got it to work. It look me around 10 minutes to complete It seems ok (I downloaded the new XDAndroid from the official Wiki page). All works fine, incl. camera and Wi-Fi.
Now, I want to do the dual Boot thing. I have the exe downloaded, but now its a new set of CAB and EXT files. I'm going to opt for what seemes to be the newer version (v 1.0.6.0) but when i extract that and open a the file, I get 5 new files
Gen.Y DualBOOT QVGA v1.0.6.0 - Storage Card.cab
Gen.Y DualBOOT VGA v1.0.6.0 - Internal Storage.cab
Gen.Y DualBOOT VGA v1.0.6.0 - Storage Card.cab
Gen.Y DualBOOT WQVGA v1.0.6.0 - Storage Card.cab
Gen.Y DualBOOT WVGA v1.0.6.0 - Storage Card.cab
no idea what to do next.
If you have a RAPH100 use Gen.Y DualBOOT VGA v1.0.6.0 - Storage Card.cab. If you have a DIAM100 use Gen.Y DualBOOT VGA v1.0.6.0 - Internal Storage.cab
NOTE/hint
One installs to internal storage/soldered microSD and the other installs to the storage card/microSD

Yeh i'll do that.
And I understood the Internal Storage and Storage card bit.
Also, I seem to get A LOT of lag when I play a game, is it normal? Probs coz the phone ain't too power full maybe
I did it, and it works well, it just tells me Android missing :S :S
Is haret in anything other than the root of the microSD? If not, it won't pick it up. There is a trick to get it to recognize the build in something other than the root of the microSD but you'll need to check in that thread where you got the dualboot program.
Yea the dualboot program is really a WinMo issue. You need to set the registry entry for it to work correctly.
But since it's not an Android or even an XDAndroid issue, I'd prefer you to post Gen.Y related questions in the correct section of the forum. Thanks.
@R^7Z
Haret is in Storage Card/bootand. And I forgot where I got the dualboot program though lol.
@arrrghhh
First of all, I'll thank you yest, as I'm restricted to 5 per day.
Also, link to where I can find this thread/section.
Thanks for all the help guys
In short if you want to use that program, you will need to visit the thread where you got the dualboot program from OR push everything up a level. In other words, cut and paste everything under the andboot folder to the root of the microSD and it should work like a charm, my friend!

What was the reason they told us to do an andboot folder then?
Well aside from "organization", not much else
I honestly only run one build because it is my preference to do so. Most who know what they are doing (or at least more than I do), use the rel_path=andboot option. "6 one way, half a dozen the other" is what I say.

Well, apart from the fact that I understood NOTHING from that previous post, I want to say that it worked like a charm I cut all the files in the andbooot file to the right place, and what do you know, it worked!
I have a tiny thing to ask you guys Its laggy, and I mean VERY laggy. When i play games, like Angry Birds and such, it jumps, makes it tedious and not really fun to use. I do understand that my phone wasn't built for Android, and that Android needs higher system specs then Win Mobile (it also lags a bit on Win Mobile LOL) but maybe there is a fix to that.
When I check phone settings, it says I'm running Android version 2.2.2, which I think is the latest version, so maybe going to a previous version will make it better. I'm ready to take a small downgrade, only if I will still be able to use all my stuff (3G, camera, wi-fi etc.) I'm hoping to make Android my permanent OS, but with it being this laggy, I'd rather not.
Any ideas

Hi,
First of all we thank you for creating this ROM.
However your statement on the first post I'd say a little bit incorrect and might confuse some members.
"NativeSD (SD-EXT)
" For high speed read/write SD Card only (Class 6 or 10). Otherwise you may get poor performance.:"
All I can say is a good Class 4 can outperform Class 6 or Class 10 anytime. I have an Adata 16GB Class 10 and I’d say too slow as compared to my Sandisk 16GB Class 4. Class 10 is good for sequential access files like for saving videos in cameras but for phone like our HD2 where lots of small read/write random access files, Class 4 will do the task efficiently and sometimes better than Class10.
There is a good article created by ny_limited worth reading

Yes the ROM support softkeys, you can enable them by aroma installer during install process. I just dont like them and thats why they aren't included in the screenshots.
PS: Thanks all of you guys for the interest of my work. Appreciate that.

Clock Weather Widget isn't working for now. I wrote that in Changelog. If you want you can use different digital clock widget + AccuWeather widget like the second screenshot.

If you asking about TouchWizMOD_v.1.0_SVoiceAddon.zip. This is only addon. You can flash it via recovery over already installed ROM v.1.0. This patch adds Samsung SVoice app. If you don't need this app, it's not necessary to flash it.
