Hi all, lurker turned poster here. I've been looking around but i can't seem to find a straight answer to this.
If i were to go through the process of doing full root and NAND unlock, to install a custom ROM and test, can i return to a true "stock" setup, specifically re-locked NAND so that my EVO can be returned under warranty? I know that RUU returns me to stock kernel and ROM, but I can't find anything about the NAND. I'd prefer not to go any further with testing any custom ROMs without knowing that I can return my EVO. Thanks in advance!
Yes flashing thee stock rru and you are back to stock.our just install the latest update and presto no more root or nand.
Ifly
EVO fully rooted fresh

Ok, I really want to root my Evo and install a custom ROM but Im PETRIFIED!
I use to have a motorola droid that no matter what I did to the phone I could (even if it was bricked) restore it with an application made by Motorola. Because of this I had no problem playing around with Roms because I could always "fix" the phone if needed.
So my question is, is there a program that does the same thing for the EVO, where I can restore and unbrick the phone?
Also, can you recommend any custom ROMs to use? Preferably 2.2 if every thing works camera, wifi, bluetooth,4g etc...

To unroot you need to run the HTC RUU (ROM update utility) You just your phone into your PC and run the EXE. If you have questions about it look at this post.

On to ROMs the 2.2 ROM's are moving along pretty well, but they are not 100% as far as I know. As to what to recommend that is all on what you like. Look in the Dev section and find you one like and read about it.
Hope that helps. If not let me know.
Ok, so I can un-root with the RUU utility but will it work if I updated with the recent OTA update?also, if I instal a custom rom will it restore it?
Thanks

I personally have not ran the RUU, but people have unrooted even with the latest OTA. I believe
I guess I am not understanding what you mean by if you install a custom ROM will it restore it... If you run the RUU it will put you back to a completely stock state even if you are using a custom ROM. Not sure if that was the question but it was an answer
Yes, there is a way to use the RUU to get you back to complete stock.
You will be fine during the whole process as long as you follow directions, and don't do anything crazy (for example, never do a battery pull in the middle of flashing).
It's fun, you know you want to do it. lol
And also, with the custom recovery, there is a way to restore backups you make along the way
OK,
I used the Simple Root method to unlock my EVO. I'm clueless as to how this benefits me and what to do with the rooted phone now.
Of course Sprint released the OTA 2.2 update just days after I did this and I just want to return my phone the the stock ROM. I've tried several methods and none work. Everything I do leaves me with the Superuser Permissions still on phone and I cannot complete the OTA 2.2 update. I don't want a custom ROM, I just want the stock OTA ROM.
Someone please help with a step by step of how to remove the Clockwork Mod boot system and return my phone to out of box condition so I can get up to date.
Thanks (I hope).
Flashing the stock RUU maybe??!?!?!?! lol
tried that
Yes That would seem logical. I tried that but it doesn't get rid of the boot system which is preventing me from getting the OTA 2.2 update. I want to revert completely.
Admittedly I don't really understand all this rooting business so it does me little good to have my phone rooted.
I can revert my ROM but it doesn't get rid of the clockwork mod boot system and therefore I still cannot complete the OTA update. Every time I try the update it starts to install and then goes to a page with a caution triangle and just freezes there and I have to pull the battery and reboot and I'm at the same place I was before.
I don't understand how to flash a ROM anyhow.
You can download the 3.26.651.6 RUU .exe from this mirror
http://www.mediafire.com/?3z4zbt3vco1ijs7
USB your phone to your computer and run that exe. You will end up with the same stock froyo as the the OTA update will ultimately give you.
If you used the official 1.47 RUU, and it completed properly, then you should be completely stock. It wipes all the partitions and puts you back to stock. You can also look for the stock .6 Froyo rom that's been rooted. I know I've seen it around here somewhere. Grab the one that is Odexed, as it hasn't been tampered with at all except to add SU permissions.
Hey I'm not sure, but I was thinking about selling my Evo because I just won a new Epic off of ebay. With that said, can someone please point me into the right direction to unroot my Evo just in case the buyer wants it unrooted?
I found the Ruu's but which which one do I use?

Another question when I first rooted my Evo, I made a nandroid backup, of course it was of 2.1 at the time. So is it possible to just flash my 2.1 stock rom that I made a nandroid of and just do the 2.2 OTA? Wouldn't that unroot my Evo?
Is it stock rooted? If so, I would just sell it as is...wipe twice, clear Dalvik and be done with it. But anyhow, yes, restoring your unrooted Nandroid backup will restore your phone to the state it was in when backed up.
Can't you just stop a certain point during the root process? At some point you end up with a stock 2.1, sell it that way.

So is the Ruu the only way to unroot? I used it on my 002 model Evo before returning it and it worked fine. But after reading that thread it appears that people is having difficulties with it.
If I find the 2.2 Update zip and install it, would I then be unrooted?
Hello all, after reading todays news about HTC giving up efforts to update the desire, I have decided to update on my own.
The trouble is, my desire is a POS. I am not able to do the unrevoked way because my desire will just go into a reboot loop.
Is there an alternate way of doing it?
I assume that I must be rooted to get this firmware on?
Do I really need this s-off thing? I do not plan to stay rooted. Once i load the new firmware i will unroot.
Thank.
Ok, firstly POS? Secondly, what firmware?
When your rooted you can't simply just unroot. To unroot you have to flash an RUU, which in turn wipes all the data off your phone and updates everything back to manufacturer stock. I don't see what your trying to achieve here.
I am only rooting to get the new ruu. So, I assume that it will then be unrooted no?
POS is piece of sh..
I have the stock 2.2 fm.
You don't need to root to use an RUU. You can happily flash an RUU all day. The current RUU is Android 2.2, software number 2.49.405.5.
I rooted my Inc2 a while back with the revolutionary method and have s-off. I returned it to unrooted stock a while back to get the most current updates but now I want to re-root it. What steps do I have to do? It has 6.01.605.05. I've reviewed this thread,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751796 but the next step takes me to the Revolutionary section. Do I just skip that? Will I be rooted after the first part then? I'm looking to keep the stock ROM on it, but want to get rid of the bloatware and some other stuff. I've given up on ICS coming out officially. Thanks!
