I have shootme but given how clumsy I already am, I don't feel it is safe to use.
They all suck. I wish someone would make a simple app that worked like the iPhone system.

Only if you haven't applied the latest update from what I'm reading. They (finally) patched the hole that allowed the original Unrevoked and ShootMe to work without root.

damn.. i just confirmed that shootme doesn't work on my unrooted evo. sigh. are there any good alternatives?
drocap is nice, but it requires root

Hello friends. I really want to download a screen shot app for my evo but all the apps I've found only work with rooted phones. Does anyone here know of an app that will work with android 2.2? And speaking of 2.2, does anyone know if a root is nearing? I know it's inevitable.

Shootme is the only one that I know of but you need root for it. Root your phone already!! Why wouldn't you!?!

Root is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765496
It's came like 2 hours ago =)
shoot me doesn't work on 2.2, for me at least. I am using drocap and it works perfectly. Picme works as well, it just gives you a web link to view your screenshots

thats odd - I think it might just be you. Folks have been using shootme on 2.2 roms for a while now.
Shootme gave my problems, too. I use one called screenshot that I got from the market and it works lovely. With root, of course.
+1 for drocap
whoops wrong thread x.x
Probably all Your problems will be past -> easyscreenshotandroid22.blogspot.com/
Hope this guy is serious with that great trick to make those screenshots.
Shootme worked great on my EVO w/2.2 when it was unrooted.

I remember when I had an iPhone I was able to hold the top power button and the home bottom at the same time and it would take like a snap shot screen shot type deal of my current screen can an evo do that? Maybe an app I need in order to do that?
Thanks!

Yup, either drocap2, or Shootme. There are probably more, but those are the two main ones. I use drocap2, and it works great.
it's also worth noting that you need to be rooted to use any of the screenshot apps in the market.
word is that 2.4 will most likely have it built in.

Well you still need to be rooted, well at least now to use it.
Yeah, was the same way with the Evo. At one point you could without root, then something changed by way of app update or something. Almost want to say I remember a OTA breaking ShootMe on one of my Evo's. Either way, as said, shootme and dropcap2 are your best bets. Provided you have root access.

Ahhhh, "Screenshot" is ok, simple app. Also that new screen cast and recorder app has a screenshot function that works okay as well. There is a demo version and a paid version.

Idk if LCD Density is responsible, or if it got pulled, but since this thread has been posted, it seems to have been pulled out of the market, I'll verify by checking my apps to see what info is provided.
Edit: Yeah, it got pulled out of the market.

anybody know why?
Maybe they have an update guideline.. or improper flagging.. or pulled by request of the person who made it. I've emailed the dev in the past, 0 feedback, perhaps he removed it to release a better version, or perhaps was insulted/furious in the fact that there's other apps that provide the same functions, and even copied his apk icon, recoloring it to avoid copyrights.

Shootme Alternatives?
Does anyone know of any good alternatives to Shootme?
I have v0.8.1 on my phone, but for some reason its not working.
Actually, its kinda weird. It worked perfectly fine on my Evo running Froyo before I rooted. Then I rooted a couple weeks ago and flashed CM7.1. Now its saying "Failed to start server. Please check that you have ROOT access...blah blah blah," even though I've granted it Superuser permission. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling and the like. I know CM7 has built-in screenshot feature, but Shootme is a lot easier when taking multiple/quick screenshots. Anyone have any suggestions of how to fix this, or know of any good alternatives?
Drocap2 maybe.

Can someone mod shootme so that we can get a better framerate on the screencast feature. Just to let you know a Dev already did this but his modded apk is no longer available in his thread( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925270 ). Also know that the higher the framerate, the crappier the quality of video. Here are the steps if anyone can do it:
just decompile the app with ApkManager or other and ajust the values in /res/values/array.xml
I would do it myself but I don't have good luck with ApkManager
There is a guide online to edit the local.prop file to not force a camera sound, but, ****, we're not rooted so we can't use it. Anyone!?
Update 09/18: Thanks to the amazing zedomax and his root method, you can create a file called "local.prop" on your phone under the /data/ directory and place the code "ro.camera.sound.forced=0" without the quotes in it and reboot and be good to go. In other words:
1. Create a file called local.prop on your device in /data/.
2. Place the line of code ro.camera.sound.forced=0 in the file local.prop and hit Save.
3. Make sure it's in the /data/ folder.
4. Reboot.
5. Enjoy not having that ****ing shotgun blast in your ear every time you want to snap a photo.
Want to revert to stock? Change the code in the file to ro.camera.sound.forced=1.

wait for root...I imagine it won't take too long.
btw, has anyone tried the SGS2 rooting methods yet?
But... It's too damn annoying. And the stock messaging app is so childish
Some have indicated that on the latest camera update for the SGSII, putting the phone on silent or vibrate disables camera sounds. Does this work on the E4GT out of the box?

I think this is done to comply with Korean and Japanese law that digital camera must have audible sounds to prevent voyeurs from secretly taking pictures. They have tossed this idea around in the States.

Yeah, it is built into the Camera.apk. You have to delete the sound file which can only be done by rooting it.
this is annoying... why do phone makers force this on us?
Seriously... if I wanted to take inappropriate photos, I would make sure to go out of my way to get a camera that had no shutter noise.
This accomplishes nothing but is extremely annoying.
What I was getting at was that instead of having multiple camera apps per country, they just have one universal apk that follows Korean law.

That was actually in the first kernel you flashed before installing anything...the one that gets CWM or ACS recoveries to "stick" upon reboot.
In root explorer, go to system/apps and hit the r/o button. Long press and delete the apps you don't want. Turn off phone and turn back on. I hate the stock browser and always remove it this way if I forget to remove it from the Rom/Theme. Be careful what you delete. You can also add a .bak extension to the file to deactivate it in case you may want it later.
when i do that it sayd it cant be deleted because it is read ony
titanium backup is easy enough to remove what you don't want.

go back to qbking's videos. he has a few in order to install the acs recovery and make it stick, along with the new "stock" update from sprint. once you apply these installation steps, your gps, keyboard issues, and other things will be fine. i do apologize, i cannot post any links on here just yet. but i did do the steps in his videos and i have no problems.
