I read somewhere here in the Evo forums about putting a file inside a folder to stop media players from automatically loading/caching them. I tried searching for several terms but cannot seems to be pulling that thread back. I read this thread before I bought the Evo so I did not subscribe to it and didn't think I would need it since I was still using the hero. If someone know that file or can direct me to it would be great thanks.

I was transferring music to me phone, and I saw a file called "and me.destroying" and it's kinda worrying me. Should I delete it ASAP? And if known, what does it do?

What does your heart tell you to do? Lol I'm kidding.. Do you to think you down loaded any apps that would have something to do with it? Go through the file and see what's in it, see if you ecognize anything

Delete it. If an app needs it, it will just recreate it. No worries, people format sdcards all the time so no critical app data is on the removable storage unless you moved the app to the sdcard.

Perhaps you could copy it to your PC and share it so we might see what it is?
I deleted it earlier today. It seemed as if it appeared after installing a J2ME application, as part of the file name also included andme.

Tiresome sifting through pages upon pages of pictures from apps and such to find my personal media. Thanks

Should be able to move the pics to a new folder titled ".nomedia"
Shouldn't scan that folder.
actually, I think all you need to do is create a file called .nomedia and place it into the folders you don't want the media scanner to scan.
Works great to keep the gallery from adding all of the images that Touchdown (my corporate email program) caches on the phone.
Is there a method to include folders rather than exclude -because I have way too many files from wherever that I would have to exclude with that method. Thanks

Bump. What does "bump" mean? Does it mean 'no one is looking at my thread, hey you, will you look at my thread? Either way, hey you... kidding, but please, does anyone know of a way to choose folders for the gallery rather than choose to exclude which as I mentioned would be way to cumbersome? Thanks

Put your pics you want private in a desperate folder. Rename the folder to anything with a period in the beginning and voila!

Hiding private media isn't the issue.

If you don't mind a 3rd party solution, get QuickPic. I seriously haven't used my stock gallery in over a year. It has the option to exclude certain folders ( and thus scan the rest of the SD card ), or include folders instead ( only scans the folders you choose ).
Russian smashed across the interwebz from my Galaxy SII.

You could also make a text file and rename it to .nomedia no name with that file extension and it will not show up, which is what quickpic does for you.

thanks. that's the solution.
edit: actually no, gallery still finds private media and now the folder just renamed with a dot in front has now disappeared.
edit: actually, there is a setting in astro to display such files, BUT then now the gallery app will display contents of private but visible folder so...

Hi all, just got a captivate glide, my first Android phone, and I have absolutely no clue how to get my music on it from the PC? All I can find in google is people talking about which file types it accepts.
Try double twist, that's what I use.

Thanks for the post, but it's just an example of what was confusing me so much when googling. People suggesting all sorts of programs, but I don't need a program, I just need to drag and drop my music, I just didn't know to what folder.
I eventually found out you can just create your own music folder and drop it there. So problem solved. Thanks anyway.
Yep, android will scan the entire device for media, so anywhere you like works fine. The only exception to this is if a folder has a file named .nomedia then it'll skip anything in it.
I mean, who doesn't put a folder for their music

can someone please try and help me figure out my situation?
Problem: everytime i flash an AOSP based ROM, my pictures will not show up in google gallery(they show up in quickpic) and my music will not show in any music player ive tried.
Ive searched the whole file system for .nomedia files, there isnt one on the root of the storage.
can anyone help me resolve this?
Bump. I have more info, when I plug Into the computer, I can't access the ext SD card and only a handful of the folders in my phone show up like Music, Pictures...
Does this help??
Oh I have found a work around with a folder player apk...

Damn dude, sorry, but I stayed away from AOSP for several reasons, and the mixed up mount points drove me crazy. I dont think I ever got it workng 100%. Didnt really try maybe, I missed TW.

Thanks! At least I got some feed back. I ended up fixing it. But it took all day. I had to Odin back to stock, re root. Then format the phones SD card and the external SD card. Now she works beautifully!

Hi, I recently noticed a .enref file that is 7kb big on the root of my sd card. I just flashed a rom to my EVO 4G as well, Digital Karma V8 Reincarnation. I formatted my sd card before installing the rom, so I know it is not from the rom itself. I opened up the file in a text editor, and in plain text the word "android" was displayed in it. Should I be worried about this file at all? What is it for?
Also, using es file explorer on my phone, I do not find the file on the root of my SD card. I will check again on my computer to see if it appears there and tell you guys.

Alright well I just checked, I can see it on ny Windows pc but not on my phone using es file explorer. Does anyone have a clue at all what this file is for?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
Anyone?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
A Google search doesn't turn up anything, so I'd either leave it and not stress over a 7KB file or rename it .enref.old, reboot and see if anything doesn't work. If so, you can always rename it back
Alright thank you for the information.

This is an old thread, but just in case anyone finds this thread through Google like I did, the .enref file is created by Evernote Food and can be safely deleted.
