Switching back from Cricket - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking at buying an Evo that was flashed over to Cricket. I am wondering how difficult it would be to flash it back to Sprint.

Okay, cool.

I know to call and check the ESN to make sure it is clean

i could be wrong but i am pretty sure cricket just re-provisions the phone. They wouldn't take the risk of a bad flash and ruin the phone. So most likely a hard reset should clear it up and if then just doing a regular stock ruu flash should fix it.

Flash the stock ruu, and load the verizon prl (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696073)
after loading the verizon prl, go to software update, update prl.
that will load the sprint prl.
done.

Moved as not Development.

I am pretty sure being rooted will not prevent you from flashing to Metro. If anything, being rooted is necessary. S-off will not have an adverse effect on the flashing to Metro process, either.
Everything you need to know is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=704161
I got it to root prior to reading this. I will take to M PCS and see if flash is successful (this time around)
thanks.

Wait.......you're taking the Evo to Metro PCS? I don't think they are going to be very helpful seeing as this is not something they condone. What you need (and please read the thread to clarify because I have never personally done this myself but will be doing it soon for a friend of mine) is to have an existing account with Metro so that you can add the info from that account to the Evo and therefore activating on Metro. Unless you know someone that works there and knows what they are doing with this, I don't think you should bother taking it over to them.
Sorry, I should have clarified: I am existing and need to have phone Metro Flashed to get the service. Merely adding the # isn't working as I am on their system already.
I lost the Metro Flash when I screwed up my 1st attempt at rooting.
Here's the problem. Evo is stock & unrooted. People at Metro (right now) are saying that they can't get their computers to read my evo so they are re-downloading drivers, etc. It failed first attempt (today) to metroflash.
I was successful at another corp. store and may need to try where it succeeded.

So Metro is helping you flash a phone from another carrier over to them? Talk about customer service! lol
For what it's worth I've never even had to have an EVO rooted to swap its carrier.
Keep in mind though, if you put any AOSP ROM on your phone you will lose the ability to enter ##DIAG# to enter diagnostic mode, and lose the EPST stuff. (For editing settings on the phone, not through QPST/CDMA WS)
If you are flashed to metro or in my case cricket, and you root then you might lose web/mms. Talk and text can be obtained without rooting but web and mms need rooting to run on the proxy work around.

That's where I screwed it up the first go-around. My Evo is good now.

that's the part (AOSP) I didn't realize when I got into android flashing/rooting...
Could've saved me a lot of heartache had I been patient and did more homework on XDA.

[Q] flash back to sprint

should i unroot it? and put the stock rom on it and how should i do that?
Disclaimer: I'm very new to rooting, androids, etc., but I've been doing similar things to computers for a long time.
My guess is that you should unroot it. The only thing I've seen mentioned to do that is RUU. That might do everything for you. It might depend on how you rooted your phone. You might have to update your radio to get it working on Sprint again if RUU doesn't do that for you.

Scroll down to Q&A, download and flash the S-ON tool.

Download, boot phone into fastboot, connect to PC, run RUU exe. Also use the 3.70 version.

[Q] CSpire GS3 SCH-L710 rom???

Hey guys
CSpire Wireless formerly Cellular South has finally released their Galaxy S3. The model number is SCH-L710. The reason I am asking this question here and not in a different carriers forum is the L710 in model number. I don't pretend to understand why certain carriers GS3's are labeled with different model numbers, but I thought that since your GS3 and mine both have L710 I thought that possibly the hardware was closer to the same than say verizon's which is a completely different model designation. That being said I am desperate for a custom rom but don't wanna just go flashing any GS3 roms out there to see if any will work on my network. I would feel more comfortable knowing that I had a way to odin flash a stock rom in case any problems arise. Anyway if someone is kind enough and generous enough to help me locate a stock odin flashable rom, then I would be willing to help in any way I can to find a usable rom or port for my version of this great phone.
Thank you so much in advance
I went ahead and flashed the latest CM10 nightly for the Sprint version. Everything seems to be fine, except for data. I still have data, but it is very flaky and won't hardly hold a signal. I suspect it to be the PRL or CM itself.
We definitely need a stock rom for CSpire. I am willing to help any way I can.

Good luck finding that. Cspire keeps things like that unattainable. Unless *228 will work properly to update prl. Should anyone come across it please let me know. Bout to flash CM10
What about using QPST or something to pull the PRL off of a stock device? Can we get someone to do this before flashing any ROMs?
Okay. First of all, I didn't think to look at the PRL before I went and flashed the Sprint CM10. But now it says 20005. I restored my nandroid backup and pulled this PRL from my phone with QPST 2.7.374. In DFS Tool, I noticed there was a CSpire PRL 10009. I wrote this PRL to the Phone and am getting much better service on the stock TW ROM.
HOWEVER, I flashed the Sprint CM10 again and the same thing happened. It says PRL 10009, but there is little to no service and when it does have a little service, it is very flaky and eventually ends up with no data connection at all. Any more suggestions or ideas?

after a few hours of trying to get my phone into diagnostic mode i found this that worked. *#22745927 then enable hidden menu then *#7284#
now i think i need to find a newer version of qpst so that it will recognize my phone.
This one worked for me: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tcfsxo5d6vsxfnn/QPST.2.7.374.rar

qpst still says no phone under the phone column no matter what i try
So far, this is what I have done:
First I used the following tool to download drivers for my phone and root ( via option 4 in the program).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746680
I used CWM to make a nandroid backup.
Next, I flashed the latest CM nightly for the Sprint version here:
http://get.cm/?device=d2spr
After doing this, everything worked fine, EXCEPT for data. I dialed *228 and let it do its thing. I actually had data, but the signal was extremely weak and very flaky. After messing with settings it would usually drop it altogether.
I restored my nandroid backup and noticed that although I had data, it seemed to be weaker than before ( although that may just be me).
I decided to follow the following guide on how to get the PRL from the phone:
http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-m/419514-how-get-prl-off-your-phone.html
The version of QPST on that post was outdated, so I found and used QPST 2.7.374, which I posted a link to earlier in the thread.
I managed to copy the 20005 PRL off of my phone and saved it.
I then started up DFS Tool and wrote the CSpire 10009 PRL to my phone.
I get much better service on the stock ROM, but the Sprint CM builds still do the same thing. No data.
UPDATE: I did a *228 to get back on the 20005 PRL and it is working just as well as the 10009 PRL now.
Also, as OBSt4l0n discovered, there's simultaneous voice and data. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this or if this was happening before flashing roms
and PRL's.
Okay. We no longer believe it's the PRL causing the problems. More info to come. May be slower over the weekend with weekend stuff and all.

Out of curiosity, Could it be the APN's causing the issues? And from what I've seen the vzw variant seems closer to the cspire. but its hard to say. Just to try and eliminate possible causes, I would reccomend flashing this here and see if you get the same issues. http://goo-inside.me/devs/aokp/d2vzw/aokp_d2vzw_jb_build-4.zip Its AOKP for the vzw variant. I have used it as my daily driver for the past week and I'm on Sprint. Dont have to change anything in it, just flash.
Just my 2 cents

Thanks. I'm tempted to try this but the only problem is I don't have a way of going back to stock. I did, however make a backup through cwm but I wish there was an absolute stock cspire rom out there. I would love to test out developer's roms and provide feedback if somebody knows where I could get a stock rom to flash for cspire's gs3....

Just tried this and still no data. We need a dev to look into this. Apparently there is something internal in code stopping our radio from functioning properly. I have attempted to pull my RIL file and insert it in cm10 then rebooting and no luck. Still no data. Any devs out there willing to look into this for us?

[Q] HELP! My fully flashed Cricket LG G2 is back on Sprint after restore!

My WIFI toggle wasn't working, so rather than troubleshoot the issue, I simply went back to stock, well, in that process my MIN and MDN got reset to Sprint! I was already on Cricket and the ESN is in their network. Any help or suggestions? I can't find a G2 flash guide ANYWHERE, and this was flashed before by a friend.
How did you get it back to Sprint? I'm having the exact opposite problem. I was on cricket and I'm trying to get back to Sprint. They said it couldn't be done.

I accepted an OTA update. If you're already up to date, I dunno. Whoever flashed your phone should have made a backup of all the info, if not, I'm not really sure how else, as I don't believe a TOT restore will restore NAM and all those other settings. My G2 is on the new cricket now, the GSM Cricket, so I just flashed a GSM ROM to it and the SIM card slot works now.

[Q] Flashing back to Sprint

My power button went on my S3. I bought a used logic board and to my surprise it was flashed to verizon.
It came preloaded with CM11. My question is how do I flash it back to Sprint?
Just load a Touchwiz Rom? Or do I need to update the Radios as well?
Can I Just flash the latest ND8?
Current baseband version: L710VPBLJ7
Didn't see any info on here on how to get it back to sprint, only how to take it away.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You would essentially reverse the process you read.
Big thing - make sure your MEID shows the same as the sticker behind the battery or you're going to have an issue trying to activate.
Good luck!
I'm not sure you're going to be able to activate that new logic board on Sprint, as the MEID is tied to the logic board.
Is Sprint allowing activation of old Verizon devices?

Hey i used to work for Sprint last year, if you try and flash ur phone back to sprint they still wont take it for repair, this is because once a sprint phone is flashed out the ESN number is no longer valid on sprint network, even if u try and use the original esn(meid or whatever), when a rep at sprint store tries to enter the esn when they make a ticket it will come up as invalid, ive come across this before working at sprint, once a phone has been flashed out of sprint no matter what you do even if u try and flash it back it will not work on the network, Now depending on how long you have had it you could try and contacting samsung about it, or take it to a local repair shop and see how much they charge for it, most of the time when the power button goes its pretty easy to fix.
