I was having similar problems. I turned out I had a bad USB port on the EVO. Due to the bad port I hadn't rooted it yet, and exchanged at a corporate store for a replacement. All is well now!

did you get a refurb? or new

After I realized how much I would be plugging and unplugging the phone I stopped right away since that's how my other phone broke. I just use SwiFTP and ftp into my phone or sdcard.

lol rut.. thats a great idea, and btw the awesome devs have found a fix to my problem.. i'll find link and post

Silly question: did you try using another cable?
I had the same problem, sent it to warranty, replaced the faulty usb cable with a new one...
Temporary fix: try pushing the cable upwards when connected...

Need to return phone

I was trying to update my modem to ff18 after i updated to cm9 alpha6. I was using odin after several failed times with cwm. during the process i lost connection to my pc for some reason that i beleive i have figured out now. It was soft bricked due to the failed odin. NO big deal i thought. been there done that, but not this time. My pc wouldnt recognize my phone. I tried a newer cable as well as another pc. with the new cable it would connect then lose connection randomly if the cable was moved slightly. I never could get it to run odin to fix it. I tried wiggling the cable some to get a good connection, but pretty much made it not connect at all anymore. lol. Pretty sure the usb jack is screwed up. Can they not makes these parts a little more durable? I had same issue with my evo after around a year and samsung didnt last even that long, or am i just hard on them.
Sorry to Ramble on, but very frustrating for what you pay for these devices.
My question is what should i do to get the best shot at getting a replacement? My thought was to leave it in odin mode till it kills battery and tell them it wont charge anymore due to bad usb jack and hope they dont try fresh battery. What do you all think?
So its soft bricked and will boot into download mode but just isn't being recognized? I find it hard to believe that the usb port would just randomly give out unless something happened to it.

My usb does that but I dream to have the best luck from HTC sync cable from HTC phones I have had.I know there supposedly the same but I have some that wiggle and lose connection but the HTC cable never does.

Do you have access to a jig?

Pop out your sd card, put it in the computer (hopefully you have an adapter, if not go get one), load up the cwm modem zip again (fresh download), re-insert sd card in phone, boot to recovery and flash the modem to get you back up and running. Of course I suggest all this assuming you have recovery and can boot to it.

So let me get this right, you bricked your own device with a void warranty and now you want to get it replaced? Be honest with yourself, it doesn't have anything to do with the USB port. You guys wonder why manufacturers are locking their phones down, here is your answer.

Sorta the same thing happened to me.. though I hard bricked coz I tried to flash from ICS > ICS with a team rogue recovery >.<
1)Pull out your battery and take and external SD card out and keep the case off.
2) Submerge in sink for half hour with stopper in.
3)File Asurion water-damage claim (assuming you have TEP, gonna cost ya $100 dedeuticble)
4)Recieve new phone in mail, mail back old broke phone w/out battery but with cover back on in Pre-paid postage envelope asurion gives w/new phone.

I dont want them to replace something that is void waranty cause of what I did. I have Tep so if I messed it up fine I will pay for it, but before this ever happened the light for charging would flicker when the cable was moved or even when cable wasnt in it. I just thought it was a bad cable, but after this I tried another and had same results. Should of posted all that i quess.

[Q] Note2 not charging, connect(ed) to PC.

Hi,
Yesterday my new (~2 months old) Note2 stopped charging. tried 2 different chargers, 2 different cables connected to PC. No reaction (no beeps, no led, battery icon not changed to flash).
Tried removing and putting the battery back in. No change.
On the other hand, when connected to the PC, the PC identified the connection and allowed file transfer. Later the battery died completly. I succeeded in booting to download mode, and again PC identified the USB device.
Switching the phone on with no battery gave no results either (would not turn on).
This leads me to a conclusion that the USB port is probably OK. Could it just be a dead battery? (according to its label, the battery was made on Nov 29th, 2012).
I will be able to switch battery tomorrow with another Note 2. Anything else I can try till then?
Using custom recovery and stock rom.
Thanks in advance,
Idan

Yeah, with or without battery... no reaction from the phone.
Have you tried a lower powered device to see if that works? Some usb ports don't have full power output, as some laptops portray.

I've tried 2 USB ports on a desktop PC. didn't work.
I've connected it without the SIM and SD to an old nokia charger (0.7ma), no sign of a change but after ~ 1 hour I noticed the red led turned on - turning the device on showed 44% charged.
Now I am too puzzled. any ideas?
This is exactly what happened to me. .. it was the motherboard. I brought an external battery charger, charged the battery full so I could use the phone. Then used triangle away and odin to flash stock rom, and sent it in for warranty service. This seems to be becoming a common fault with the note 2 now....ive seen a few thread recently.

Hey there, my sgn2 n7100 had the same problem before, I tried everything, even disassembled the phone apart, but it was still won't turn on or charge, won't be recognized by pc or Mac. One day when I repaired my mom's iPhone 4 touch screen, I found out that the USB port was so dusty. I thought may be it's all because the USB port was dusty then I picked up my sgn2 and used a soft tooth brush with a little pure alcohol to clean every corner of the USB port. Guess what? After 15 minutes I connected my phone with the USB wall charger, my sgn2 just started to charge again. Trust me guys, try to use a soft brush to clean the USB port before you give your phone to the repair store or somewhere else. Good luck!! Hope it helps.
Same here, i manage to purchase note 2 for 300 euros! And when I put it to charge nothing!I went to download mode and then turn it on normal and its charging! Also happend the same with my s3 so eighter its a charging problems or seems to be one software issues
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
@scufutz I could guarantee the symptoms described by the OP is NOT software issue, as I have an N7100 with same problem and I managed to flash new kernel and still it does not charge even powered off. Download mode connects perfect.
I'll check if this cleaning method, or if its a circuit prob.

Xperia play doesnt work

I have a R800x Xperia play and it doesnt work no more.
Before whenever the battery would die out all the way to 0% and turn off automatically, it would take like 5 minutes of charging before it can reboot.(I would never let it go to zero but i let people use it and everytime they let it drain all the way and it bugs the sh*t! out of me, that cant even ask me for a charger!!)
anyways this last time it took over an hour of charging (with led indicator on) to be able to boot up. and before that i had left the charger on overnight and the led never turned on and i wasnt able to turn it on. And when it did start working it itwas out of nowhere after plugging it in multiple times.
This last time it was on yellow battery and i fell asleep using it so when i woke up it was drained all the way. (also i found it on the ground so it fell from my bed, but the screen is not cracked so idk if this has anything to do with the problem). I put the phone to charge and after like an hour nothing happened. 3, 4, 5 hours and same thing. i left it all night and still nothing no led no vibration! i bought a new battery thinking i might have messed up the old one letting it drain all the way (the extended battery for a r800i, dont know if that will affect it) and put it in, and nothing still. tried charging and still no led light.
i think that mayb the miniusb port is messed up and both my batteries are drained all the way! even the new one because this is an old device and they probably manufactured the battery a long time ago.
i have taken the phone apart and see nothing wrong, except for the flex cable looks a little damaged, i will upload a pic asap
So any suggestions on how to fix it myself?
thank you for any help!

You can find on youtube videos of how to dissamble the Xplay.
Anyway if it's the miniusb port broken, why doesn't the phone boot up ?

the battery was completely drained. n ithink the xperia play is one of those devices where it has to be ON to charge. now it charges through the port. i have let it die again, and it wont charge no more through the port. if i use the battery seat charger and as long as it has a lil bit of charge, it'll charge thru the port. but connecting the xperia with the pc, the xperia isnt recognized. so the usb port IS messed up, it'll charge but wont sync

Phone Doesn't Charge.

So, I'm on stock ROM and been using Sony charger.
My T2 Ultra Dual doesn't seem to take charge, even it chargers, it charges upto one percent. When I try to switch it on, it turns on and says "Battery Low, Shutting Down." I've tried Switching cables, chargers, sockets and tried with system. Any Help?
Can you tell if your phone even recognizes the charger?

Sorry for taking so long, phone doesn't recognise the charger. It only recognises while the phone is switched off.. But doesn't charge
Also the service center guy said that both the battery and port are working good, but it doesn't hold the charge. It's out of warranty. And he said there might be a need to send it to head office
office. He asked me to submit it next week. I'm afraid of what cost he might say. So, I'm looking for help. Thanks in advance.
Never mind, have opened the housing of mobile. Cleaned the slot and charged it using chromecast's data cable..
It's now charging.
I'm having the same problem. Could you clarify what you meant by cleaning out the slot? It puzzles me that your (and my) phone still charge till 1% before you "cleaned out the slot". Thanks.

does your phone start??
I don't know I used to charge it all day long. Then I got frustrated and opened the housing and cleaned the slot with vodka. Yeah, Vodka. Even then it didn't charge, it stuck at 1%. then I connected it to my television and connected to chromecast cable. it worked. Don't know whats wrong. Even the service center guys couldn't figure it out, I sold it now.

Thanks for clarifying! I checked the USB slot for dirt but no luck there. When the battery is at one percent, my phone does start but it shuts down pretty quickly. I gave up all hope on my virtually dead T2 Ultra. I've searched solutions for this problem all over the internet and it seems to be a very common issue with Sony phones. I bought the new Moto X instead and I'm generally much happier with it.
P.S. For the occasional reader who now wants to clean phone parts with liquor, make sure it does not contain sugar. Straight vodka is indeed a good choice. (Denaturated alcohol is better but not so easy to get.) There are also plenty of youtube video's explaining how to clean a USB port.
Haha didn't know that bro. ^^
Thanks for that. Will never do that again.
