Hey all, question. For every SMS message I sent it displays the correct timestamp in the message however for each I receive it is shown as 4 hours into the future...which gets really annoying especially since they are all in chronological order in the message thread.
I live in Cleveland, OH and my phone is not currently rooted. I have the correct time and time zone set in my settings. Setting the time manually or automatically yields the same results. Anyone have any thoughts or solutions? Thanks.
I had this happen on my hero when i went out to the middle of nowhere with poor sprint coverage. While I was there my phone pulled some malformed data from the towers and causing time stamps to be off.
The fix was calling sprint and they forced an update. I think you can do the same from the self service app but im not 100% sure.
also having this problem with my EPIC.. I will call today.
There is an app in the market called SMS Time Fix. Works for me.

UPDATE: I've found a fix for this issue - AWESOME!
Just go to the Android Market and install the SMS Time Fix app by Matt Precious.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-mattprecious-smsfix-pAFq.aspx
It works perfectly, and updates the time stamp on all messages to relfect PHONE time and not network time. HINT: Make sure the "Last Resort" option is checked in the settings and offset is set to zero. This little app now makes the Evo Messages app usable. Finally...
Hope this is helpful info
So, I've been reading and experiencing several issues with SMS timestamps on the Evo 4G.
It seems there are three distinct issues with SMS timestamps on the the Evo and I believe they all have the same root cause.
Issue 1: When roaming texts are received with the wrong time stamp, offset by several hours (typically 4 or 5 hours off). This causes them to not be threaded in the conversation correctly. Very annoying.
Issue 2: When receiving SMS messages on any network (Sprint or roaming), the time stamp is off by an hour. The result is the same as Issue 1, but a less extreme example.
Issue 3: When texting back and forth in quick succession, SMS messages are not logged in the order in which they are received, and received text messages ALWAYS appear before sent text messages if they are sent during the same minute, regardless of which one was actually sent first. This is also very annoying.
I believe the root cause is that the native Sense UI messaging app is using the timestamp of the tower of each SMS rather than using the time stored on the phone. To prove this, if you use Handcent and set it to use "phone time" and ignore the tower time, it works perfectly. The thing is that I don't want to use Handcent and I want to use the native app. Is there a setting that can be tweaked to fix this? Has anyone talked to HTC or Sprint about the issue and is a fix in the works?
For such a major problem, I am surprised more people haven't come forward. It's a pretty significant bug...
Thanks,
Matt_TX.

Trying updating your Profile and PRL.
if that doesn't fix it, dial #2
I also have noticed issue #1. I even called Sprint to ask about it and they referred me to a 3rd party app in the marketplace to fix the timestamp.
I have been using Handcent ever since to get around the issue.

Its the tower issue mentioned at the top of this topic. Updating your PRL, (Preferred Roaming Location), is usually helpful when you are traveling and lose signal, this will help catch another carriers tower or at least one a bit closer, also, updating your Profile, (Data profile), only will refresh from your device the settings matching your NAI (ID address) with your carrier and refresh your data settings...ie > HCM/SPS>OMA, these tactics are unnecessary, and you can do both with a quick power cycle. The best thing for timestamp correction is to use your phone time as the stamps source & to make sure only to use for future time dated messages. As for dialing *2 or #2 as in this thread, it will get you no where with the issue, they will only refresh your device in their system, in this case meaning Sprint, you can do the same, unless, of course you are running specific roms which clear Carrier IQ, you may then run in to some trouble with those device self updaters, but as mentioned earlier a power cycle will do the same all at once.
The Time Stamp Fix, from the Market works just fine
Does this fix work for when you have your phone off or in Airplane mode? I hate getting my text messages when I turn my phone back on are they are all timestamped to when I turned my phone back on not to when they were actually sent.
thank god i saw this, i have a vzw prl and my timestamp is always 4 hours in the future. works great.
Oddly my sms timestamp is fine on aosp roms, just on sense it is off...
so the problem is the gf epic 4g phone time is 11:58am and i send her a text at 12:00 and when she texts me back its sends at 11:58 for her but instead of the text moving down to a new row, the text moves UP above my text at 12:00.
i both live in the same city but how come the time is different and why does her text move up instead of down?
is there a way she can fix this ? but disabling something?
please help and thanks.
What cell provider are you with?
It sounds like your provider and Sprint don't agree on the time. Since the stock sms progam appears to sort by the time the message was sent, I doubt there's a good way to fix this. Either of you could try manually changing your time, but it will change back next time you switch cell towers. She could try handcent or chompsms and see if either of those sort differently.
the strange part is, when i bought her the phone last month, it was never a problem till this morning.. but i am with t-mobile. i recently asked her to download handcent and lets see if that works out.
thanks

I don't think this has been asked yet, but I get really delayed text messages. I'll be texting people and I sometimes I won't get the texts 30 - 45 minutes after they send it for whatever reason. This has been an issue for me since day one with the phone. I have had this issue on multiple ROMs, and I have had this issue and Illinois, and I'm having it again in Arizona. I know people text me back because sometimes I'll be talking to them on Facebook and they'll confront me and say;
Them: "Thanks for texting back."
Me: "What do you mean?"
Them: "I just texted you five minutes ago."
*25 minutes later,*
Me: "Hey I got your text."
Them: "Kbye."
Does anybody else get this issue? I've called Sprint about it and they tell me a Profile Update will fix it. Today was my fourth time calling and I told them to not even try and give me a Profile Update. Also, I disabled/uninstalled my Stock MMS application because I use GOSMS, but this has been happening way before that, even when I used to use the Stock MMS application with no 3rd party application installed. This is especially annoying because these last couple of days I Tether. I understand that while Tethering, I can't get phone calls or texts, but sometimes I don't get texts until 2, 3 hours after my Tethering application (Barnacle) has been killed with the pre-installed Task Manager.
Is there anyway to solve this?
This happened to me over the weekend here in MA. Sprint might be having some issues with growing pains?
Yes I have gotten some 10 mins late as well

If Barnacle is slightly a culprit, why not eliminate it completely? Or. Don't use it for some days, see if the delay persits, and on a positive note, after you tether, REBOOT your phone, it will allow your Cell Radio to send/retrieve pending texts that were delayed from your tether, instead of 5 hours later, they should be coming in shortly after the boot. You're welcome. =)
P.S. Please don't take offence or feel arrogance towards my comment on eliminating Barnacle, what I meant by that was to try out WifiTether. Lol.

I know you said the problem petsisted before removing the stock messaging app, but I recommend leaving it installed. It isn't uncommon for people to have problems after removing it and only using a 3rd party app.

I've had this problem all last week. I am not using any third party apps, just the stock sms.

Like arrows83 said, I had the same problem multiple times with the Stock MMS application.
This Is Bad ..
Im having the exact same problem EXCEPT:
If I send a message and wait until the "sending" under the actual message changes to the time the message was sent, it'll send.
Other than that, if I don't wait and say for instance go to my fb app, the message doesn't send until 20 - 30 mins later.
All that are having text issues, this isn't a permanent remedy, but in case of important texting where you need the texts and you have issues, just hold down the power, deactivite data, and let your messages send/receive via 1x. It'll go through smoothly.

I've had this problem on multiple phones from Sprint.
The phone claims the text wasn't sent, but moments after it tells me it failed, I get a reply from the recipient.
I think often it has to do with Sprint's network, not the phone.
Happened to me twice in a couple thousand texts so far...

lucky!!
Happened to me a lot more than that. I look like an idiot when my friends send me screen shots of 5 texts I've sent when my phone still says it hasn't sent.

Same here, my evo3d, photon and ET4g all did it, it a carrier issue. I use roam control sometimes to lock it into roaming, texts send fine. Reboots don't always work for me.

OK, thanks for the responses. It has gotten repeatedly worse past few days and is frustrating to have these issues with such a high-end phone. Rebooting and/or updating prl has not helped much. Was ready to break phone yesterday over it, lol.
Mine send but sometimes I get texts a day later and i have no idea what people are saying.

If you use roam control and force your phone into roam the problems go away. I've never had the issues while on Verizons network.
I have experiences this issue in 2 diff forms.
1. The form the OP mentioned. You send a text, it says "not send due to network error" but the text still gets sent. So when you resent the text (you are resending because it says "not sent", so u dont know it didnt get sent) it goes a total of THREE (not 2) times for some reason.
2. This is the ghost LoS reason. You have full signal and everything SEEMS normal, but when u try to make a phone call, it will seem as though the phone call is abt 2 go thru, but its just stuck on the dialing screen, and even if you press the end call button, it still stuck on that screen. Also during ghost LoS, if you try to send a text message, it will not go thru. AND, if someone calls you, it will go straight to voicemail and you will not receive any texts.
I am always texting my self "test", like every 30 mins, to make sure i dont have LoS. And i hate it, hope this gets fixed soon!!
The only way to get out of ghost LoS is to reboot the phone.

Hello all,
So my wife is telling me she is having a weird issue with her S3. I haven't gotten a chance to diagnose it myself so I figured I would check with you all to see if anyone has noticed this.
She is saying that she will send me a text message and when I respond a few seconds later my text response will display before the text she originally sent me. This seems to only happen when I respond quickly. She is also informing me that, as of right now, she sent a message with the timestamp 9:37. The response she got from me (again, I responded quickly) shows the timestamp of 9:36 and is appearing before her message I responded to.
Has anyone experienced this issue before? Let me know if I am being unclear.
Thanks in advance!
EDIT:
Also, she is not rooted or anything. The phone is in as-bought condition minus whatever she installed from the Play Store. She is using the default messenger.

I'm not sure about the stock one, but some SMS apps have the ability to either order texts by 1) the time the sending phone says it was sent, or 2) the time your phone actually received it. My guess is this is a result of a slight difference in the time on both of your devices and her phone is ordering them by originating timestamp, not receiving.
If it's not an option in the stock MMS app, I know a few of the alternative apps in the Play Store offer this "fix".
That's a good point. I am on Verizon and she is on AT&T. Maybe there is a slight time difference and this is causing things to come in out of order. I'll have to check that out.
Mine does it on occasion but fixes itself later on. Both my Captivate and my S II dud it as well. I'm not too worried about it.

my s2 and s3 do this when i'm at my parents house. I think what happens is the towers time is behind on the tower you're on. That's what I've kind of concluded since it only happens at my parents house.
