Hey,
Im on orange UK and have a rooted version of the generic 1.15... rom. However, as its rooted (at least, i think the root is the cause) the OTA wont install, it just fails every time it trys to install it and the phone restarts. Can anyone tell me how to install the OTA update manually as i really want some of the bug fixes in it
Thanks
any ideas?
I was having the same problem... unrooted and got back to the WWE one :/
how did you unroot exactly?
I had the same problem last night with the T-Mobile update, in the end i followed this guide to unrooting -
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307683/howto-unroot-your-htc-desire/
Updated to new version fine, now not sure whether to root again
thank you, thats exactly what im looking for, although, is there a download available for Orange UK or can i just use the Generic RUU?
(note: i currently have a generic, non orange rom installed so i assume this will be ok?)
Yup, I installed Generic WWE one on mine.
Although I liked having my phone rooted, I hated going checking for update, seeing it, trying to install it and then failing at that constantly. This way is better I guess.

Hi all,
I followed Paul instructions to rooting Desire and I guess I made it.
Anyway, I would like to go back to the HTC generic ROM for Desire so when Froyo comes out I don't have to root and everything again, but simply take the update from "check for update".
Can anyone give me instructions how to wipe this ROM and install the generic one?
I think doing an OTA update for Froyo is a dumb idea, why not do a fresh, clean install
You may be right
Anyway, I don't like this installation since if I check for update, it tell me there is (1.21.405.2) and I got the 1.15.405.4 installed. If i try to update it, it fails.
So I am stuck... I would like everything to work as it should, and not being concerned about this issues :/
Then why not install a 1.21.* custom ROM then? E.g. the MoDaCo ROM is based on a 1.21.* version. These versions usually leak onto the internet sooner than they get released by HTC.
Can anyone explain
1. why the 1.15.405.4 sees the 1.21.405.2 as an update, but doesn't/cannot install it
and
2. what is the difference between 1.15.* and 1.21.*
I know, so many questions and so little time, but please bare with me
1. because you masterbate too much

Haha, I loved the 1. ))))))))))))))
Thanks alot for the second
Hello All
I am a newbie to Android. I have an Orange UK HTC Desire. I rooted it and installed ClockworkMod recovery, plus LollyRom (0.2 version) for Froyo and App2SD.
Now I want to revert it back to original ROM in light of upcoming update for European Desires. Please tell me:
1) Is there a way to unroot my phone back to a GENERIC ROM rather than the Orange version?
2) What is the easiest method for that? And do I need a goldcard (I rooted using Unrevoked so did not need one). Please note that my phone was not locked as such, just displayed Orange splash screen and some (horrible) Orange apps
3) If I unroot it and install a generic ROM, will it be detected as a generic Euro unrooted Desire (so that it can be updated)?
Urgent help would be appreciated

I believe if the rumors and gossip is true that Euro will get updated by this weekend then you need to unroot to HTC_europe version in the official ROM that is available in the sticky post.
I am also pretty sure when HTC rolled the update, it will also be made available everywhere too as long as it is official ROM version. So yes, you will get the update.
Thanks very much.
I just need to know: will I need a goldcard or something to unroot? I did not require it at the time of rooting.
Secondly there seem to be two versions of the generic Euro ROM - which to choose?
Seeing as you're on orange, unless your phone is unlocked, you'll need the 1.15. The 1.21 one updates the radio as well and causes a sim lock on orange phones.
Yes you will need a gold card to flash a generic rom. Imo, the generic rom is much better than the orange one with all the demo games and stuff. If you struggle making a goldcard, google goldcardtool - makes the job easy. Just a few mouse clicks and its done. Simple

I'm on mac os x, can someone link me to/ extract the rom.zip for
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
??
ps. what is the difference between
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.1_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121684.exe

iinga: Many thanks for the reply. Please bear with me the repetitive questions though:
1) You say I am on Orange. I WAS when I bought the phone, but I am using a different SIM now (in another country) and its working perfectly without unlocking etc. After rooting and installing LollyRom all traces of Orange have vanished from my phone. Does it still mean I have to be picky with generic ROMs?
2) I did not need a gold card to root it and install another Froyo ROM. Is it confirmed that I will need a gold card to unroot it back?
1) What network are you now on? I know that orange are very picky with radio updates. Despite rooting/debranding, updating the radio would mean that they simlock their phone. However, as you mentioned you are on another network, I believe that you may have an unlocked phone?
Also, as the froyo update requires a new radio, it may well be worth your while to unlock regardless...I originally unlocked mine (despite being on orange network) to update to froyo roms with the necessary radio update.
2) Yes, you will still need a goldcard to install a generic rom.
I had Orange UK ROM. I've unlocked it with a code. Then I made a goldcard and installed
RUU_Bravo_HTC_Europe_1.15.405.3_Radio_32.30.00.28U _4.05.00.11_release_121865.exe
Everything works fine but one thing. Red color is rather orange than red and is too saturated ie. faces of my friends are very reddish. I hope Froyo resolve this.
Just a quick point the Rom coming out this weekend is for unbranded and unlocked phones only not Orange or vodaphone or t mobile just unbranded and unlocked HTC desire.

I think that after unlocking and actualizing to official ROM my HTC is the same as brand new unlocked Desire. I don't suppose that OTA checks IMEI numbers and knows which phone was unlocked phone from begining.
Iinga: actually I am in a third world country having imported orange branded desire. I did update the radio before updating to a Froyo Rom . The phone is working perfectly with a local 2.5 g sim from day one and continued to work perfectly after rooting and updating . So far as I am concerned my phone IS unlocked despite initial orange branding. So I think transition to a generic HTC euro Rom will be possible . Am I correct ?
Secondly I didn't need a gold card for rooting and installing a custom Rom and it worked so it shows my phone is not network locked. So why do i need it to revert to a generic Rom ? Sorry for repetition again and thanks for the help

Ok, i guess you are unlocked.
From my understanding, if your phone was originally flashed with an orange rom, you will need a goldcard. You only don't need a goldcard if your phone was originally unbranded.
Rooting is a different process
Ok I guess now everything is clear . Just to confirm: using the goldcard I will be able to turn my currently rooted phone into a generic euro phone right ? Now the only question is which ruu to use of the given two.
since your phone is unlocked, use 1.21, it's the last official update for unbranded phones:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
So this will revert me to generic euro? What about those ruus labeled euro or something like that ?
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Use that one as you're unlocked. And yes it will revert you to official stock rom.
So what if your IMEI isn't in the 'database'?
Yes, an OTA has sim-locked the phone. Yes, I am on Orange. Yes, I went to htccode.com.
No, my IMEI is NOT in the database (it's three months old!). Will be chasing for a refund from htccode so let's see what happens.
What next? I could flash the earlier ROM again, but I want the Froyo upgrade to work. I did try to go to Orange for the unlock code but, despite being an Orange-branded phone, I bought it through Phones4U. Apparently I have to go to them for the code. Sounds suss to me, but will be popping to the shop today to ask.
SavCom
I've just been to htcunlock.com. Paid my dues, got my phone back and we're now running Froyo properly as of an hour ago.
Off to htccode.com to get my money back
I have a Desire that had the Orange rom on it, I debranded it with a goldcard to the generic 1.15 rom, then i did the OTA update to 1.21.405 which also updated the Hboot to 0.8 and the updated radio and simlocked the phone so I bought an unlock code and all was good.
Next I rooted the phone using the modaco r6 rooted 1.15 rom, used a few rooted roms then decided I would unroot to get the official froyo update. To do this I used the 1.21.405 zip from shipped roms, put it on the sd card (gold card) named as PB99IMG, booted to recovery and selected fastboot, this is the only way to get back if you have the 0.8 hboot. That took me back to generic unrooted so yesterday I was prompted to install the 2.2 update. I didn't install it as the new hboot sounds like a nightmare. Instead I rooted again using unrevoked 3 and installed a rooted version of the official 2.2 rom, I didn't use a goldcard for this.
Hope this helps.

I have a debranded orange phone, used a goldcard to debrand to a generic 1.21 ROM, since then I have upgraded to the new froyo 2.2 official and ever since my phone is on a continuous loop of restarting all the time every 2mins, no SD card, No WIFI and no GSM calls etc.
I've tred various RUU's and updates and nothing has worked. Im thinking maybe I need an Orange RUU file, but just can't find one anywhere...
I tried using 1.21.405 zip, renamed to PB99IMG then went through recovery mode and fastboot, but when fast boot was selected nothing happened just another menu with - reset, bootloader, clear data etc nothing to say install anything?
So I got a notification today that there was an OTA for my HTC Desire. So seeing as I am running the stock HTC Sense ROM (although I am rooted) I downloaded it however upon trying to install the update it failed and I was stuck at a screen with the android logo and a warning sign> I managed to exit this via clockworkmod recovery. Now when I boot into hboot it finds the PB99IMG.zip and tries to install it after realizing this I tried the same method using my goldcard however again it failed. This method also fails and I can no longer get to clockwork mod.
Does anyone know either how I can install this update or how I can find the zip to get rid of it as the only way I can think of (and this is because im a n00b) is to unroot, install the update then re-root.
Thanks
Have you had any luck sorting this?
I've got the same issue, I'm running the ROM that came with my phone, but I have rooted it, I can download the OTA fine, but it wont install. I've tried to unroot it by reinstalling the standard ROM, but the only one I can find that matches my Desire seems to be too out of date.
If you're rooted you should NEVER accept an OTA update as it will screw your phone up
nah havn't sorted it. As to about the RUU Pirow the one I found that works is 2.14.207.1 which can be found here: http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.exe

I sorted my phone by sending it off to be relashed at the O2 repair centre, it's now unrooted, but I've no reason to root it as I have more free space than I did while it was rooted so I'm happy
Hey guys, so I been trying to root my phone for like the last 3-4 days ever since I got it. Sadly, I cannot root it and have given up hope, and just wish to get my 2.2 firmware back, I've got the stock rom now (sprint lovers?) and everything seems good, except for the fact that my firmware stayed at 2.1-update1, and I can't find a way to get it back to 2.2
Can anyone help me with this?
(Also does anyone live in Fresno, CA? Willing to pay to get my thing rooted )
There are so many things wrong with this question.
If you never rooted, how did you flash a rom?
I have no idea why it'd say you're still on 2.1 if you installed a 2.2 rom to begin with.
How the hell did you downgrade to 2.1 from 2.2?
I don't think they flashed at all there on the stock sprint old enclair ota, but how did they get on 2.1? I suggest you do a ota update. Go to settings - scroll to the bottom and choose system update then choose software update.
Maybe that will get you on froyo 2.2.
Best of luck.
!πf€©£€d Evo 4g
I have tried going to system update and choosing firmware update but it claims there is no update available. I dont know how I downgraded, I was attempting to use autoroot v2.3 and it installed a different rom that says "Quietly Brilliant" at the start-up screen, but now I have it back to stock. Where the original sprint load up screen came up.
Everything seems good except for the fact that it says I'm running firmware 2.1-update1 and can't use my flashlight, on my phone to use the camera light as a LED light :S
First off, if you are rooted, NEVER EVER try to update your phone. You could permanently lose root. Every single guide to rooting tells you this.
Second, just download and run a stock ruu for the latest version of the stock rom.

Edit: If you want to root, I suggest this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=829045
Hi guys, I've been searching the forum for a while but I still can't find a solution/reason for what it's happening to my DZ, which I bought from England and vodafone branded.
Soon after the first configuration I upgraded to 1.72 as suggested, but I couldn't know that rooting was then no more possible. I didn't want to be stuck on a vodafone branded and only-english rom, so I debranded succesfully my DZ by downgrading to a stock htc 1.34 rom (RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed), obtaining then permroot + superCID.
Now my rom speaks italian (as I wanted) and is rooted, but if I check manually for updates, I get only a message telling me that the phone is updated and there are no new upgrades available.
I tried to:
- look for updates before rooting and with s-on (CID vodap_001), waiting even for 1 week
- put back the gold card I used to downgrade and then checking for OTA
- check for updates with root, superCID and s-off
Is there any reason for that?
How can I update again to 2.2.1 (1.72 & 1.83)?
ps: I prefer a stock rom for the moment instead of a custom rom
Any help/opinion is appreciated!
There won't be any OTA updates once you've rooted and de-branded. And if there are, do not accept them, as they will either fail or possibly unroot/brick your phone.
Your option will to be to find a rooted, stock ROM that comes with the latest OTA software package already installed. Check the dev section, they have a list of ROMs. You may not be able to find the exact specific ROM you've currently got, but there are many choices that can come close.
First of all, thanks for prompt answering martonikaj.
I thought I could receive and install ota updates since there was a stock rom with superCID in my devide.. which is different from having a custom rom like Virtuos.
What about users telling they had downgraded-debranded-rooted their DZ and can receive and install successfully OTA updates??
Flashing a rooted stock rom implies wiping everything.. and I prefer to avoid that.
There's a rooted 1.82 stock ROM at : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960149 . Really if you're going to make that huge version jump you should do a wipe. Back up your stuff with Titanium backup first

Sorry but in all my times rooting and modding devices, applying OTA updates has never been something that works with rooted devices.
Unfortunately, yes, if you want to upgrade to the rooted version of the latest OTA ROM, you're gonna have to wipe everything and start from fresh with the new ROM.
Same here
Hi,
The same thing is exactly happening to me. My phone keeps telling me that there is not update but the software number is 1.34, which from what I've read is an older firmware. Shouldn't my phone be able to detect the update?
The question isnt whether rooted is better, but why our phones are not receiving any ota. Granting that stock rom is not better, the problem is there is no notification at all that there is an update.
FYI, I have flashed an official rue version but still has s-off. :-D I don't know if having s-off would prevent the phone from finding an update.
Think about it this way people: when you mod your phone by rooting, it's like cutting the imbillical cord with your carrier/manufacturer's update servers. Don't worry about why, just have that mentality as it will make all your lives easier. If you rooted, why would you want a stock rom that limits you?
If you want stock with sense, go for GingerSense, Vitruous, etc..
If you want stock w/o sense, go for any of the other pre-rooted G2 roms.
I really don't understand why people would complain about OTA updates when you can backup and update to a rom of your choice whenever you want. Plus, if you don't like it, you can revert! Something you cannot do with a stock OTA update.
