Me and my brother both have the touch pro 2 with the same radio versions but different OS's yet he seems to be getting 3G network around my house while I only get 2G. Any suggestions?
I am using energy rom leo while he is using the stock os from tmobo.

umm are the touch pro 2s identical?
please give more information like since your brother is getting 3G is his the Tilt 2 or Tmobile Touch Pro 2?
and is yours a European Touch Pro 2? or could it be a tmobile touch pro 2 and you both are on AT&T??
Different OS doesnt play in the role wether you get 3G or not it depends on the hardware but sometimes also your settings could effect this since you shut off 3G
Well both of us are using American Touch Pro 2's on the Tmobo network.
If my settings are interfering with my 3G network, how would I go about to fix it in my settings?
Uh one more thing, we both have the radio version: 4.49.25.57 installed

Start > Settings (All Settings) > Connections > Connections.
There should be two connections, one for tmo, one for work (?). Click Manage connection and you should be able to edit the settings from there. Being on CDMA and verizon I do not know what settings you would need to include...maybe get ur brothers phone and see if there is anything different in that location. Since you are both on the same radio it shouldn't matter what ROM you are using.
Actually, the ROM does play a big role on your radio performance, mainly because of the rilphone.dll that is cooked in. My suggestion to the TS is to flash the same ROM that your brother has and see if you have the same experience he does then.
More information on the rilphone.dll here.

I've been watching android a bit and the development has been stellar. I've been using my sim card on my cdma device to test and so far all has been working. But with the recent builds, internet or texting does not work. Is this because of 3g? I've tried switching to 2g but that didn't help either. My question is what should I do to get data and sms working on my rhodium 500 (CDMA world) touch pro 2?

Try removing your SIM card, i'm running the latest version of Android for TP2 by MrPippy on PPCGeeks and its running great, 3G Data, voice calling, Wifi, keyboard, marketplace etc.
the last time i tried running android i left my SIM in the slot, and i couldn't do anything except look at the phone's interface,
the world phone (only version of TP2 from Verizon) uses Vodaphone services by default when it detects SIM card on Android for some reason, so this is most likely why the Android developers tell everyone to remove the SIM card.
Hope that helps

You're using the GSM service on your CDMA TP2 domineus?? Did you take a Verizon or Sprint TP2 and bring it over to AT&T or T-Mobile's network? Either way, you may have a more unique setup than most of us.
For the most part, I'm experiencing the exact thing as schwartz1; my Verizon TP2 (CDMA) works GREAT with the latest MrPippy Android release. Like schwartz1 said (as well as in the detail instructions from the thread), you need to remove your SIM card for it to work. I verified with VZW a while back that it's just there as a placeholder; you don't need it if you'll be within the USA.
Good luck
I'm in the same boat... I'm using my sprint tp2 in germany and the cdma android builds the voice and data don't work at all but the gsm xdandroid cab worked for voice and data once out of 8 times I booted... can't figure out what got it to work that once though.
surprisingly the gsm cab worked well dated march 8
but the zimages have been giving a lot of issues for me...

Download and install Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
And there are many places on the web to find Windows Mobile apps (download to your computer and transfer or download directly to your phone).
Links to freeware available here on XDA.
Thank you!
BTW.. as far as I can tell and I have looked everywhere you will NOT Be able to use 3G or HSDPA on the Tilt2 with T-mobile it would SEEM to be a hardware issue as T-mobile 3G Is on a different frequency than AT&T If yours gets 3G Let me know. Becuase I have a Tilt2 on T-mobile as well and havent been able to get better than Edge network

That's right -- different 3G bands/frequencies, and since it's a hardware thing it's not fixable by flashing a different radio ROM.
I have noticed people managed to change their network mode to GSM only mode??? How do you that?? I only have 2 options: WCMDA and GSM/WCDMA auto?? Is this thing vary due to your courier?? Currently I am with 3 Australia. I wish I have the option to switch only to GSM. From experience, it can save you a lot of battery.
If you don't have the option then you can't pick it. I don't know if that means it's been removed or if it's simply because 3 don't offer a 2G network service (GSM mode). They probably have some 2G sharing but only in spots without 3G so you still have the GSM/WCDMA auto mode.
That's the best I can offer since I know that's how it works with 3 over here in the UK where they have only their 3G network. The firmware likely has GSM mode disabled for that reason but wait for more to back me up or prove me wrong.

I have a feeling it could be the ROM or firmware that comes with it has it disabled the GSM only option. My Desire HD is the UK version. I am not sure if the other Australian version (from Voda or 3) have that options. With my original desire (and also using 3), I have that GSM only option available. So I dont think it's because 3 doesnt offer 2G network.
Get Advanced settings from Market. You can set it to GSM Only in the phone information menu.

Thanks for the info. I have tested both method...both work. But the only problem, how do we set it permanently?? I mean I have noticed every time you reboot the phone, the setting changes?? and I have to set it back to GSM only??
but even if you could technically switch it to gsm, would it actually make a difference? surely if the actual mobile network is pure 3g and no 2g, then switching on the phone wouldn't change a thing? as its not actually possible to use 2g on 3 network?(because they built network from scratch out of 3g is what they always boast about anyway..)
This is strange. I have an unbranded bought sim free HTC sensation here in the UK which Im using on the 3 network and I dont have the option under network to set it to gsm only. This option should be here on an unbranded handset, and its there on my old Desire which was also bought unbranded sim free when Im using that on the 3 network.
Anyone shed any light on this? I know the work arounds mentioned above, but Im more interested in why the option is missing on my handset.
Cheers
PS I know this is the Desire HD thread but its the only topic I could find on this subject so far.
I don't think it matters, just don't even bother with the settings menu for that in the first place. in the Testing menu just set the radio to either GSM Auto (PRL) or GSM Only. GSM gives more talk time.
hello All,
I got a AT&T HTC touch pro 2 (tilt 2) from my friend who had got it unlocked from AT&T as he got upgraded to a new phone. I am using a t-mobile prepaid on the touch pro 2. I have got couple of issues with it.
1. The UI responds very slowly.
2. The data connection icon displays E. When I called up the t-mobile customer care they response varies a lot. One says i need to unlock the device from AT&T and others says i will be able to use only Edge as its not a device provided by t-mobile.
3. The GPS doesnt seem to work. When ever i used Bing. It says that its not able to connect.
I have a request is there any customisable rom that would help in over coming these issues.
Regards,
Mahesh
Same here, but other way round
I have a T-Mobile TouchPro 2 I've been using an AT&T SIM in, and I can tell you exactly what's up- The ROM is probably trying to refresh stuff in the background and it's not working because it's expecting an AT&T SIM. Try another ROM. As far as 3G, not gonna happen. T-Mobile's 3G runs on different bands than the AT&T 3G. The T-Mobile SIM wouldn't even start up the phone if it wasn't unlocked. And I think the GPS settings might be wrong, try fiddling around with the COM ports in Settings, but make sure you make a note of what they were before. I'd recommend a custom ROM, not to solve the problems you speak of necessarily, but it runs a lot faster, and won't have all the AT&T bloatware that's kinda useless to you. Oh, and if you don't have Connection Manager setting everything up for you in your ROM, make sure you set your APN.
Hi,
Being in Australia the Captivate Glide is not available locally so ordered it online via a parallel importer.
I was supposed to receive the AT&T version but due to no stock I received the Rogers i927R version.
I cannot root the device as my work place prevents it since I need to use it for work related messaging.
1. Is there a list of differences between the AT&T and Rogers ROM's ?
2. I'm on Optus which uses 900/2100MHz, so the phone will connect on 2100.
Using an App called Network Signal Info I can see data connection switching when I'm moving around as normal, but the data symbol in the notification bar doesn't match when on 3G as follows:
NetInfo | Speed | Notif-Bar-Symbol
GPRS | 55kbit | G
UMTS (3G) | 384kbit | 4G <-- doesnt say 3G
HSDPA | 7.2Mbit | 4G
This a bug or ROM incompatibility ?
Thanks.
The only differences I know of is that the Rogers ROM is carrier-iq free and the tethering option is unlocked.
In my AT&T version, I can't find any way to manually toggle between 2G and 3G networks. However the network info apps/widget show it's automatically switching between EDGE, HSDPA and HSPA.

It would be handy to sometimes by able to force 2G to save battery.
Anyway, can the Rogers ROM be flashed onto the AT&T Glide and still work ?

Good point.
Sounds like I should stick with the Rogers one they sent me rather than swap it for an AT&T version since the Rogers one will be most compatible without having to 'root'.
Carriers in Australia seem to allow tethering by default as long as you have a working App for it.
Thanks.
Which parallel importer did you use, do they have an online storefront?
Hope the Rogers version pricing comes down as fast the AT&T one. That's I went for At&T, down the line I'll end up flashing it with an open ROM. Mostly because of OpenVPN support.

Indeed that's why I asked, since I don't use any data packages.
I checked my mom's S II, appears to be an AT&T carrier limitation. It won't even scan for other networks. I set her S II to 2G.
Earlier I wasn't concerned with the AT&T ROM, but this one is annoying, I could save some serious battery time by switching to 2G.

They've been very helpful and responsive, trying to get stock as quickly as possible.
When they couldnt get the AT&T Captivate Glide they sent me the Rogers Galaxy S Glide.
Seems that was the better way to go.
AT&T locks down their network and band select while Rogers does not. AT&T uses an "H+" on the HSDPA network to show status while Rogers uses a "4G".
Learned by flashing Rogers ROM onto an ATT cglide. Changed the model to 927R as well. Went back to ATT when I noticed the loss of the ATT wifi options.

So even after rooting the phone, there's no way to manually change bands while on the AT&T ROM?

I'm using the Rogers version in Australia.
I have all the normal WiFi options and have used it at home and on public ones with no issues.
I think, just guessing, that Tynar is talking about the customized WiFi options on the AT&T ROM I have read about which gives you access to their own WiFi network.

Yep, I since had a look at the User Guides, of which there is a different one for each version Rogers and AT&T. The ROM's have been customized to show different symbols for mobile connectivity.

Ya... Thats at&t limitation, I guess... But atleast in my sister's AT&T Thrill phone (running Froyo + rooted with SuperOneClick) the "NETWORK" app (LINK) from AM/PlayStore works and helps in selecting 2G only or 3G only whenever needed...
But even that app is NOT working on my rooted CapGlide... May be because this phone has only rooted-ROM and not rooted-Kernal (as told by rooting guide in cap.glide development section)... Experienced members please help... I badly need 2G only for battery backup and 3G only for good speed as 3G coverage in my place is not great...
Thanks...

With AT&T Rom, you don't have that option.
You can flash Rogers Room (Untouched or Custom Rom) where you have the option of manually choosing network and choosing 2G/3G
Switching to 2G would really save on battery life.
So the notable differences are...
1. The AT&T ROM doesn't allow band switching or manual carrier search and selection. While the Rogers ROM does not have this restriction?
2. AT&T allows WiFi tethering, while Rogers doesn't?
3. Both versions come with Mail for Exchange apps?
4. Skype, G+ Hangouts, Google Talk, Voice and video works on both?
Please add/correct any other big differences. I'll make a table and put it up on Wikipedia once we have the notable differences, that could cause issues with international use.
