Comparing cooked ROMS - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

havent been on these boards in years. got an att tilt, donated, downloaded, and never looked back. looking into getting the HTC Touch HD (Telstra version) and I keep reading how that stock ROM sucks and it'd be best flash a new ROM. that is something I havent done before so I've been to the wiki page of the phone and began reading. My only question is there are tons or ROMS out there but where can you compare the differences in them? I'm leaning towards one of Dutty's ROMs only because back when I cruised these boards heavy, his name was always being praised but I've never used his ROMS so it'd be all out of familiarity.

Getting Tilt 2. Little help

I have a iphone 3gs jailbroken. Im getting a Tilt 2 for xmas. I want to know what i can do to get the phone to run as smoothly as possible, meaning is it possible to get ride of all the software that ATT includes in it? what woud be the best rom to put on it and are there walkthroughs to get that done? Also is there a site like appulous for windows mobile like for the iphone?
Welcome to forums
You have made a great choice moving from iphone to Rhodium!
1st I would recommend is to flash a cooked ROM from our great chefs, stock ROM´s are full of crap and slow the entire system.
Here to learn how to:

Once you know how, enter to ROM section and select your preferred ROM
Good luck and happy flashing!

If you want to remove the AT&T garbage and have your device run at its fastest, you might want to try a custom ROM. If you are interested in flashing a custom ROM, directions on how to do that are here.
As for the best ROM, that's kind of tricky to decide. All the ROMs are very different, and appeal to different people. I personally like EnergyROM (link is in my signature), but other people may prefer different ROMs. I highly suggest flashing many different ROMs until you find one you like the looks of.
As for freeware sites, there are loads of them. I like freewarepocketpc, but 1800pocketpc and XDA-Developers (this site) also have many great freeware apps.
Lastly, since you're new with this device, I recommend reading the stickies (which can be found at the top of each subforum) and taking a look at the XDA-Wiki page concerning the Rhodium, found here. Now that I've said all that, I'd like to welcome you to XDA-Developers!
Keep us posted
@blopez24
hey im curious how you do with the tp2/tilt2

Advice on a ROM for Tilt2

I'm looking to flash a custom ROM for my friends HTC Tilt2, this is my first time. So i'm looking for the easiest one I suppose.
Also I'm looking for one that makes the User Interface smoother and runs better, he hates the 6.5 Professional it has on it...
I would like to put Android on it, but it looks like that ones not fully cooked yet.
So i guess the latest winmo version with some Bakers tweaks is what I'm searching for.
I just see so many and I really don't know all the differences.
thanks
As stated million time before, there is no such perfect ROM.
What is best for me could not be for you
Test them all and decide for yourself, then let us know your conclusions
Said that, enter to ROM section and have a deep read on the most popular ROM threads.
Good luck and enjoy!

Feedback on custom ROM's

Hello everyone,
I would like to give some feedback on my experience with cutstom rom's available for the rhodium.
First of all, I want to thank all people on this forum who are kindly providing their work and time. thanks to all of you guys
I was looking for a custom rom in order to get something that isn't on the last wm 6.5 official/stock rom : speed (i'm using a french/european version of the rhodium)
Because many people on many different forums told me that I had to try those custom rom's, that they are much better in pretty much each aspect, I tought "let's give it a try"
So, I came here and, since the last 2 months, I tried barely each "energy" rom's (those one's who seemed to be the most downloaded/popular) but also some other ones.
Actually, I am kinda disappointed. As a matter of fact, I think i didn't get out one single positive point from the whole experience.
For example, I can't even tell you how much business calls I missed, don't even want think about it.
ROM's I tried are slower, more bugged in a general way, and poor "amateur-style" designed (last point which is logic, but has to be said) than the last stock/original HTC wm 6.5 (european) rom
As a consequence to what, I strongly diss-recommended to any professional user to try anything here while he has to use the device to earn money : it's a very very bad idea.
For me, technically, a big part of the problem comes from rohdium's hardware which is simply to low to run wm 6.5 smoothly, no matter how you try, it's not doing it / end of the story
Now, I got back to the stock wm 6.1 rom which runs..normaly
Sometimes there's a lag in a menu, but I can go on with that..at least I'm not loosing money anymore.
Finally, I'm not saying all of this in order to start a flame war but only to spare time to the professional user who needs his rhodium to work with : if you read me, just stick to the wm 6.1 stock rom, it is definitely the best option you have

Its based on user preference. I used to like Energy, but now in my opinion its just slow, overloaded junk. I used to think the same until I found Valkyrie. From there I was a fan of that ROM. However, the chef left so now I make my own ROMs. Just to make sure, have you tried Valkyrie, WCX Iluminati, Simplicity, Eden or even mines (in my sig)? I talk to the Wild Child (the WCX chef) and I know he takes pride in his ROMs and they are rock solid. I have tried them before. Try his, try mines, and try the ones I gave you on the list. See if you like any.
If not, maybe you like Sense 2.1 ROMs with 6.1. There is chefs cooking that around here. Look around. There is way more chefs and better selection than when I first started with my Rhodium.
If you want speed and reliability from a cooked ROM, you need to try Ondraster's LBFAR ROMs. They are definitely the cleanest ones in the forum.
Yeah the reason that my dad and I use a custom rom (valkyre) is because we want to miss a lot of calls.
Come on, I use my phone for business everyday and I never have problems that you descripe. What did you expect then? That when you are messing with the software, all your problems will be solved?
I agree that some roms are more stable and faster then other roms. But that's the choice that you make when using them.
Some people are just not made for driving a car, maybe you are not made for flashing...
One last thing, change your topic title, it's not feedback it's flaming.
That's not flaming, that's giving advice. And it's (generally) good advice. Flashing ROMs is fun, tinkering with settings and mods etc. is fun. That's probably why a lot of us have stuck with WM for so long.
But my experience with flashing ROMs is pretty similar to the OPs. Fun, but ultimately most have too many bugs, quirks, and so on for people who don't use their mobile device as a toy. Also, the claims that this ROM or that ROM gives some great performance boost is mostly bunk. These speed gains are mostly imaginary.
Time after time, with every device I've had, I ultimately find that the closer to stock the phone is, the better it performs. That's not a flame on the chefs out there, I have a lot of admiration for them, and whenever I get a new phone I can't resist the urge to flash lots of ROMs and tinker, tinker, tinker. After a few months, though, when my phone becomes a tool rather than a new toy, I invariably go back to nearly stock.
On my Tilt 2, I'm running the "official" new Tilt 2 ROM (the one with Sense 2.5) and Cookies Home Tabs, and that's basically it.

comon i know you're pissed because you loosed the world cup ^^
(--> u see the difference ? that was a flame)
no seriously, don't be pissed i'm giving my point of view it's all.
besides, take it for what it is but i'm a system engineer..I think flashing a pda is counting within the things I can do
sure i didn't test them ALL..but like 20 of them.. after that, it's only a matter of time..
and this thread is because, now my estimation is that I spend enough time trying..
maybe i could point out "the professional user who doesn't want to spend 4 months searching around" ..ok ok u got it xD
but i think u got also what i meaned

[Q] Thoughts on ROMs other than Cyanogen...

Just curious what people like other than Cyanogen. If CM (which seems to be the favorite) didn't exist, which would you choose?

Well, yeah man, but I was hoping we could do it constructively. There's no need to go off on him. Even if you're right, you'd get more sympathy from people by skipping the name-calling. Sorry if you think I'm out of bounds. Just trying to be fair.
well, i loved 3rd sense untill i decided to play with themes... great froyo/sense rom
Well I enjoy any AOSP Roms, trying to stay away from sense Roms. I seen so much of it on my touch pro 2.

Ok, I'm sorta indifferent as to which roms are my favorite, etc.
When I got my original myTouch, I was a religious Jesterdroid/Pandoradroid user [stock Android, themed, with some ported Cyan goodies as well as some MotoBlur enhancements and animations]. I was sorta afraid, if anything, to use anything different, since every time I flashed a different ROM, one of the phone's capabilities would be wonky [ie camera would be weird, soft keyboard would randomly FC out of nowhere, various apps weren't compatible, etc].
When I got my slide, the first thing I flashed was Cyanogenmod, and it was a totally new experience, but I missed the Stock Sense that the Slide came with. When 3rd Sense came out, I hopped onto that bandwagon and used that religiously until CM 6.1.1 came out, and everything worked. Everything.
I like the organization and flow of Sense a lot, because I like seeing a contact being connected through Peep [Twitter], Dialer [Phone], and Friendstream [Facebook] in one place, as opposed to many different places that stock Android has. HTC has it right in terms of their UI. Although it can get really bogged down at times, since a lot of things are running at once, I prefer Sense over Stock Android.
But at the moment, the only decent Sense rom [for the Slide] needs the Froyo kernel from T-Mo, so it still isn't working 100%. I know that once it drops [IF it drops] 3rdSense will come up to par with Cyanogenmod. But until then, I'm sticking with CM.
[and I'm currently using CM with Cyanoginger flashed over it]

What you said wasn't out of bounds at all.
I'm also currently on 3rd sense and would love to see another update of it. It's pretty close to perfection. MusicMan and etu_aty have also posted respectable roms. You don't see much Espresso stock in all its glory or a decked out Froyo. Actually, you don't see those at all. This is exactly what we need. I'm a fan of Cyanogen roms, but we don't need copycat roms (even if the source code is different than Cyanogen's) trying to be better when they offer the same thing as the last rom.
I love CR_Mod. Chiefz seemed to let it go for now and MusicMan came and did something with it. Cyanoginger is also a fresh take on the CM source with further advances to working properly. And really, all roms seem to be pretty fast so they're just about equal in speed. The fact that there's less bloatware makes it even smoother. These are exactly what we need.
This thread is asking for comments on roms you LIKE, other than CM, it is not a place to flame other members. Any more of this flaming/disrespecting others will result in infractions.
I couldn't care less if people like or dislike a particular rom or dev, I do however care that recently people have been using this forum to vent their anger at others. I'm not prepared to let this continue. If you have a problem with someone take it to PM or report their post. Let this serve as the one and only warning that I will start issuing infractions if this behaviour continues.
I should point out that this is a general warning to everyone, not just the people who have recently had posts deleted in other threads.
To answer the op, cyanogenmod is the rom of choice because people love customization. Plus people like solid roms. From experience, cm has more features and is more stable. Plus, if google ever releases a new version of android, cyanogen is usually the first to give it to us. I think i just have cyanogenmod loyalty since our G1s stopped getting OTAs after 1.6 and cyanogen kept us up-to-date. I've tried sense roms on the G1 one. They ran so slowwwwwwwwwww!

I'm also a big fan of CM but unfortunately, it gave me a huge problem for some reason where I couldn't call one of my contacts. I was helped through it by T-Mo tech support for about a month and eventually I just decided it must be the ROM so I unrooted and everything's been fine. Clearly some combination of the root and my network connection didn't gel. So, sadly, I had to give up CM 6.0. I was hoping to inspire some good dialogue about the functionality of other ROMs to see what people think about the other things going on in the Slide ROM world.
Those of you who have said "other", let us know which ones and why!

Which rom should I get?

I'm finally tired of seeing everyones phones blow by mine speed wise so I think its time to find a faster rom than the stock. I don't need a ton of extras or themes, just the closest to stock experience with more speed. I'm leaning towards Virtuous G-Lite. Its not the overclockest I know, but it seems near-stockest. Any opinions/reviews are welcome!

search please. search!!!!
Its been asked a million times. You will find people with every single ROM under the sun that will say it works for them. It is 100% personal preference.
Just go through the dev section, read the description and features, look through the comments in the thread, and if you like it then flash it.
You can always go back to your current ROM. Just make nandroid backups of every ROM you try and you can switch back and forth until you choose one you like.
The most popular AOSP (close to stock) ROMs are CM7, G-lite, and super simple ROMs like Xboarder56's stock.
Well I was moreso looking for a list of the closest to stock (AOSP) which you provided, and I have looked over the features of CM7 and G-lite, which is why I was leaning towards G-lite, I was just looking for personal experience because you can read features of a million and a half different roms, (which I have) but none will list "buggy as hell" or "eats battery" in their feature list. Thank you for the response!

But thats why I indicate that you read through some recent posts in the ROM thread. If its a good ROM people will actively be posting and following the issues and you can see them there.
And even at that point, its all how they're personally using and setting up the ROM. Their experience can be quite different from yours. If it works for you, then that's what matters. I really recommend just flashing and trying yourself.
In the amount of time you made these posts and read the replies, you easily could have just flashed one of those ROMs and be trying it out. Seriously, flashing a ROM is fast and simple (if already rooted and S-Off), just start flashing and see what you like. Even if you got tons of advice and opinions on the ROMs, the real proof is in the pudding, and trying them yourself.
As far as I know there is g-lite gingerbliss i think that are stock looking, but I know most aosp roms like cyanogen will look similar since the G2 stock rom was pretty much vanilla android. I was looking for the same thing and went with the completely stock prer00ted GB and it is way faster than froyo! I was gonna overclock but i'm kinda happy with it. I'll prob give g-lite a spin when they update one more time
