Would you recommend me to buy a Desire in London - Desire General

Hello, I live in Moscow, but going to visit London in a couple of days, do you think it would be better to but a Desire in London? The minimal price in Russia for it is 730 dollars...
So by buying it in England I just loose guarantee and that's it?
and where it is possible to buy a sim-free phone?
thx

You'd have to work out the exchange rate. Also, make sure that the phone can handle Russian characters. When I try and view Thai text on my UK phone I just get squares - you need to ensure you won't have this problem (it's in the rom, presumably, so it can probably be fixed but that in itself will invalidate the warranty).
Also, check that it'll work on Russian frequencies/networks.

some networks are selling it for 430ukp sim free, so its best to do the price conversion and make sure its worth it to you, anyway, a search on Tottenham Court Road would be the best to get personal electronics if in london as the shops there should be cheaper!

I'd recommend you to buy the desire in Budapest.
Just joking lol, i live in London and it is the best phone i've ever had
I'm on TMOBILE with Web'N'Walk Max, 900 mins, and Unl texts for £25/month

UPDATE
i ordered mine friday night at 6 PM, and it was at my door saturday at 9 AM
i charged it, and messed around with it a bit, but my service hasn't started yet. will post again when i can give it a full test drive!
walmart.com got this deal too.
Is this legit, if so I am taking mine back today and just ordering from here.
Has anyone received it from this store yet?
wirefly.com has the same deal. I am getting mine today.
and what tmob plans do you have to buy? phone & data prices? 2 year contract?
So, we can´t just buy the phone without any contract like in Europe?
That really sucks...

We can't, but we have one massive advantage over Europe. Actual plan costs. We have one of lowest price-per-minute ratios in the world. Japan is another that has similar costs to the US. So, while phones here are more expensive, voice and data plans are cheaper.
$200 a piece from Wirefly, got one for me and one for my wifey Due to arrive on Monday and I can't wait for that big beautiful screen! Looking forward to using NRG's rom on the TP2 as his were the only I like for my Fuze.
Looks like it is now up to $229 with a 2-year extension

Really? You want to go with that? Canada, the US, and Spain are THE most expensive countries for cell phone usage.
Check this out:

According to that post the US equivalent of an $11 dollar plan in the Netherlands will run around $53 in the US (don't know which carrier but yeah).
Yes, you CAN buy a TMo TP2 without a contract (though still locked), for somewhere between $500 and $550. Alternatively, the unlocked US Edge-only Euro version ran about $720 (minus VAT) when it first debuted.

I saw that headline before, but what I'm curious about is whether they compared apples and oranges--for example, did they compare subsidies? Someday I'll actually read the source material and see. Not today though.
They don't take into account subsidies.
My point was that gehzumteufel said that the US had among the lowest plan costs. Which according to that is just not true.
Subsidies do soften the blow, but only if you're buying a new cell. If you're the type to keep the same cell for years (maybe you're an environmentalist, maybe you just like the model) the plan prices just seem expensive as they're the same price whether you get a new cell or not.
Personally as I'm on pay as you go/prepaid, I always pay full price, so the plan prices are important.
And yeah, the US has the TP2 for less than the European price. I am actually considering getting the US version, but then I'd have to find a way to unlock it...

But I am not interested in buy any plan, I already have mine with Telcel and it´s really good, I just need the device @ a reasonable price, nothing else
Bought for $542+ $50 tax from T-Mobile....still worth it.....
This is the full buy out price.....dont think you have to be a customer to buy it from them.....but the phone will be locked though.....you will hav to find other means to unlock it....

If you bought it from the US where would you plan on unlocking it? I am thinking of getting it from Tmo as well to use on Movistar, but I don't have any idea where I'd unlock it.

Desire availabilty in Hong Kong?

Is the HTC Desire available in HK. I will be there from 12-14th of April and Im really hoping to get it then. The legend is already available but no news about the Desire.
Not sure but try either the top floor (entry level) of Wan Chai Computer centre or the places around Sham Shui Po. If you have never bought electronics from HK, you need to be aware that there are two prices - one for HK stock (usually pricer) and the other for grey imports from China and Japan. Warranty coverage for the latter is done by the shop, so if you have a problem you will have to send it back to that shop. That being said, HTC probably wont provide warranty coverage outside of the country of purchase (according to one of the other threads).
Thanks for the advice. My iPhone was bought in Shenzhen so no worries about warranty. I have been coming to HK since last 7 years on business. Buying most of my gadgets there. I was only concerned regarding availability of the phone in HK as cant see it mentioned anywhere in any of the forums or Google.
I've checked out WanChai just last night actually and there's no sign of the Desire.
Good news is, because of the current favorable exchange rate with the GBP, you can just do what I do. Order overseas from Clove! I'm expecting mine to arrive in HK on Monday. And even with shipping, it's cheaper than it would be when it goes on sale in HK.
A friend was 4 days ago in HKG and he found it somewhere in Kowloon.
Sorry, i've no more details and no price tag...

I will try to the same as I will be in Hong Kong a couple of days after you.
I have bought HTC devices several times in Hong Kong and never had any problems.
The computer stores in Wan Chai and Mongkok are your best bet. Look around though do a bit of bargaining.
keep us inforned.

I cant order it to HK as I will be there only for 3 days and also cant order to India as then too expensive after paying import taxes. N1 is around 4500HKD in Mong Kok if Desire is same price or lower it will be ideal. I will look around Mong Kok and Sham Shui PO. Also Kowloon ( Thanks to Atomicman). If found and bought I will inform on this forum immediately.
I've been looking around for the Desire in HK too, so far nothing. Most of the shops either say they don't know the release date, or "maybe next week", which is the typical answer when they have no idea.
The latest from the HK forums (using google translate) is that HTC HK has said they're not sure of an exact date, maybe in June. The consensus is that they want to give the Legend (out March 31st) some time to sell before releasing the Desire. I'm sure grey imports from the UK will start to show up soon, but at a premium.
Not sure if it'll be cheaper than the Nexus One, since you can get an N1 directly from Google for less than $4500, so their price in Mongkok just includes a small mark-up. The Legend is $4180, down to $3980 in some places, so I reckon the Desire will be at least $6-800 more than that to set it apart.
Based on all that info, I also ordered from Clove today.

Ordered on March 8. Already shipping. Expecting it on Monday.
So slim to zero chance of getting a desire in HK before 14th April? So what do you suggest I do buy the Legend or N1? Please advise as Im quite eager to buy an android phone now. I will be able to change it only after 6 months so have to live with whichever phone I buy till then.
ohyeahar if you feel like selling your Desire let me know ;-)
@sickboy888
I got your PM and was trying to reply, but you've disabled receiving of PM's. You might want to look into that.
Finally bought the Nexus One as couldn't find the desire and cant with for an android phone any longer. I'm in HK till 15th Morning so if any one knows of a definite place where desire is available here do let me know. I don't mind buying that as well. Can always sell my N1 on Ebay in India.
I bought my HTC Desire (UK) version at a shop in Tsuen Wan. It mainly deals online shopping for customers from mainland china but they also sell phones there. I just got mine there yesterday. See if they have any stocks left and you can get one there. The contact information below:

Well to TBH you can buy it at Clove at a cheaper price...but what happens if your phone breaks down ? You won't be buying a round trip ticket to UK to just fix your phone... (Rmb the warranty for HTC UK is 2 years !!)
They include a one time FREE deliver service to UK center to repair the machine...and afterwards they charge you $200 only.
Just like ordinary HKers time is important...hehe

That's a good price actually. If you consider the price difference between the Legend and Desire in UK and that the Legend's retail price in HK is 4199, I'd expect the Desire to cost about 4389.
That is a good price considering the phone isn't available in the usual shops in HK.
Regarding the warranty, according to the spec on Clove the phone comes with a 2 year International warranty, so if anything goes wrong you should be able to get HTC HK to take care of it, right?

buy HOX in Amsterdam

Hi!
First of all, I hope I'm in the right forum...
If this is not the right forum for this thread, please move it.
I want to buy a white One X (int.) in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Someone know where I can buy it there? I want a store that will let me open the device, and check there are no build issues, and a low price. (If I'm right, I should get a 16% tax refund because I'm a tourist from outside EU)
Thanks for helpers!
The phonehouse should have unbranded phones and proper DOA services, but they are expensive...
i got lost in there site... didn't find the one x on the search.
someone knows more stores?
if you are staying in Amsterdam for a few days, order it online. there aren't many shops with the hox in stock except maybe as mentioned the phonehouse but they are expensive. I ordered mine from midi media, cheapest in the Netherlands (only e513 including delivery) but the phone is Vodafone branded .
check this site: http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/
i would be there for only 3 days.
but it will be in 2 month, you don't think it will be in stock?
EDIT: does midimedia has a store in Amsterdam? if so, what is it? (i cant read their site, and google translate dont want to translate it )

I went looking for one this week and the shops I wanted to buy from (ie. were not much more expensive than the best internet deals) did not have any in stock. Maybe you can place an order and check out the phone. I can recommend mycom, I bought many product from them, tried them out, decided I did not like those products and got my money back without hassles (even after opening all the packaging)

i cant order from the internet to israel, because when it will get here ill have to pay at least 16% tax.
and midimedia is much cheaper...
have it delivered to your address in amsterdam
also the new government in holland (already dubbed the butt **** coalition (sorry mods, that's what the new coalition is dubbed)) decided to raise VAT from a whopping 19% to an unbelievable 21% , so you will likely have to pay even more. Why not get the device back home?
(edit: vat probably won't matter a lot because you might get a refund, okay than preorder it from mycom to get it from the store of your choosing)
bought my white One-X at Belcompany in Eindhoven, no problems with the phone, build date 28 march 2012
in the stores, they're always more expansive than online
First of all our vat is currently 19% rather than 16% as mentioned. I got mine from marktplaats.nl (like Craigslist), brand new in an unopened box from a guy that got it with his corporate renewal for €400, not kidding. You'll have to go pick it up at someone's private house though and be prepared for some haggling.
Make sure you call ahead and ask if the seller has the receipt that states the imei. If it doesn't, leave it as it's likely stolen. You might still be able to get the vat back at the port of exit if the receipt is recent enough (most people that get a renewal put the phone on marktplaats the same day they get it). Make sure the receipt doesn't state the buyer's name, which it mostly doesn't.
Good luck. I get all my phones this way, no problems so far. We're a pretty decent and friendly people ;-)

But you know, that you will have to pay import duty and VAT in Germany, right?
As far as I know that's 13.5% (import duty) + 19% VAT. Including shipping it won't be much cheaper than buying it in Germany directly and buying it in Europe makes it much easier with the warranty as well.
EDIT:
btw, I wanted to check shipping fees to Germany and it didn't even work: "We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order."
Looks like you have to order from within the EU anyway. Maybe you can check different countries in the EU.

If I buy a Tab S in the US and sent it to myself in Europe?

I am thinking about buying a Tab S in the US and having it sent to me in Europe because even with shipping it is significantly cheaper than buying here. (Nice little Samsung pricing scam: $399 in US and 399 euros here - a 35% difference!!!!) Is there likely to be a warranty problem OR, more importantly, activation or OS upgrade issues, IMEI or CSC problems? I know it can sometimes be a problem with activations on their phones if they are activated out-of-region.
arent most electronics more expensive in europe though? im thinking of buying from amazon too but only for non-LTE one.
the tab s is currently being sold in bahrain only the LTE version and as im a cheapskate i'll wait for the wifi versions in saudi
Warranty could be an issue as you would probably have to send it to the States for service. I purchased the Hong Kong version of the 7.7 and received what updates there were without any problems. Activation was not a problem either other than the opening screen being in Chinese.

They seem more expensive here, but as I pointed out 399 in dollars and 399 in euros. It's like Samsung doesn't really want price parity. I should have said I want the wifi only, so I don't know if activation, IMEI and CSC matter.
I dont know the Greek rules.
But if I was to ship it to the Netherlands I would have to pay
Initial purchase (no sales tax)
Shipping
Import tax
Sales tax over purchase price and shipping (21%)
Import handeling fee for your shipper (UPS, Fedex??)
A quick calculation shows I finnaly would have to pay 415 euros. Hardly a bargain.
If you send as a personal item / used electronics / (ahem) warranty repair [emoji12], all those problems go away - at least here. The one thing you do not do is send in an unopened factory box so they do not think you just bought it.
I live in France, I bought my Tab S 10.5 LTE on an Italian website.
I called Samsung France. The warranty is European, not worldwide. No problem for me.
The tab cost 100€ less than in France.
With shipping fees, I paid 512€ instead of 600€ in France.
Cool. What's the Italian site?
www.hw1.it
They only have the LTE version in Italy, no wifi only.
The price of the tab S offered on the italian site, with 3g/4g, is the same at the wifi-only version everywhere else. So, I am thinking, why not buy the 3g/4g+wifi. I never have to use the data connection, but if I ever desparately need 3g/4g, I can drop a SIM card into it. Hmmm. not a bad idea at all.
I bought my Tab S on the day of release in the US and walked back into the UK with it saving about 100 quid. I have added my device to my Samsung devices page and entered the serial number with no issues so guessing that as long as they don't want a receipt of purchase then warranty should not be an issue.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
When I asked Samsung France about European warranty, they answered me "As long as you have the bill/receipt, it is ok, your Italian tablet is under warranty in France too"

I want to buy the 8.4 lte unit as it is the same price as the wifi only version elsewhere, but I find it a little discomforting that the price is 100 euros cheaper than it will be offered elsewhere. Should I be concerned about the product this website is offering?
I'm not sure to understand your word...
Yes I bought the LTE version on this Italian website same price than wifi version in France, and I'm very happy with it.
I was in holiday this week, far from any wifi access point, I was very happy to have the LTE version (with my multi sim data plan).
Price in France for wifi version : http://www.materiel.net/tablette-tactile/samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10-blanc-105481.html
Price in Italy for LTE version : http://www.hw1.it/samsung-galaxy-tab-s-10-5-sm-t805ntsaitv/
Take the 8.4inch, for example. The French site's price for the wifi-only tablet is the normally suggested 399 euro price. The wifi/4g-lte version is recommended to sell for 499 euros in Europe. But the Italian site is selling that one for 399 euros - a 100 euros discount (discount similar to the 10.5 inch prices). So my question is: are you satisfied with product you got from the Italian site because I think the price is quite low compared to what it is "supposed" to be.
Well it seems the price is normal in Italy, if you check some comparing Italian websites.
Yes I couldn't be more satisfied, I really recommend this website.
I asked some info in English by mail, they called me on my phone to confirm the tracking number of the package...
I was afraid when I paid, but now I'm very happy.

I choosed hw1.it because they ship in France.

I am from Austria also tinking about ordering eg. at Amazon.it to have 30 days trial (cant be ordered in Germany from Austria right now) ...
Is it ok to flash an Austian Version e.g. CSC: T705ATO1ANF1 ???
1 will knox be triggered ?
2 is there any difference regarding GSM/LTE frequency bands or do all european devices have the same circuit boards ? One can look this up e.g. with myphoneexplorer (\System\build.prop Austria: ro.product.board=universal5420)
