how to block data on android? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Android Development

Is there a way to block data connections while running android?
I already use the nodata cab for windows but the data works while running android.

there are differnt ways:
1. easiest is to change the apn in wireless-settings (is reversible)
2. delete apns-conf:
make system writeable (mount /system -o rw)
remove /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
restart and wipe Data in androidloader
3. modify sysinit.rc
make system writeable (mount /system -o rw)
open /system/sysinit.rc with vi (or any other editor)
comment out following lines
Code:
service setupmodem /setupmodem.sh
console

Run the modem app. Click disconnect.
you will have to do this everytime you reboot your phone.
Hope that helps
Regards

use apndroid

for polymod's eclair:
go to Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names> then select your APN and then press the menu button...delete the apn. after that it will not connect again even after reboots.
if you find you need to use data again (in case of emergency...)
just go back to Access Point Names and select 'Reset to Default'. in the menu.

[Q] Help needed

I just rooted my phone and i am trying to delete some of the apps that come with the phone.
I have found these steps in the forms but the problem is that, if I open a CMD and type this, it is not accepted.
I am guessing there is a step missing
1. type in the command line on your PC
Code:
adb shell
2. now you need to get super user rights:
Code:
su
3. you need to remount the system partition
Code:
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
4. change to the /system/app directory and you can now rename/delete all files in there
I hope you make a copy of this folder, so you can always revert back to factory default. A hardreset doesn't restaure the deletet apps, so be carefull. Also you need to check on your own IF you can really delete a app or not. I don't know what features you use.

You can use root explorer, an apk that uses superuser permissions, or, maybe you didn't reboot the cellphone, when you root your, always reboot, in order to take the "effect"
try freezing app. Easier and safer. If you want to delete. Root explorer or try super manager.
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App
I do have super user permission , but i still dont know what to do

[Q] Cannot delete old backups?!

I changed from cwm to amon_RA and now I cannot delete my previous backups? Not through root explorer... Straight of SD or change owner / permissions... I'm s-off and tried mounting rw but nothing makes a difference.. any tips??
I tried
rm -rf /etc etc etc
in adb but still nothing? No idea why I cannot delete these files / folders .... nothing will let me
You can delete the files with your computer. Just go to your sd-card \clockworkmod\backup and delete the folders. That should work
Edit:
Get access with windows:
1. Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the file or folder you want to take ownership of.
2. Right-click the file or folder, click Properties, and then click the Security tab.
3. Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
4. In the Change owner to box, click the new owner
5.(Optional) To change the owner of all subcontainers and objects within the tree, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.
No access with windows: You can boot a linux system (bootable cd,...) go to the terminal and change the owner with chown or chmod. Just use google to get more information about it.
PC wont let me that's why I posted... Can't edit anything - owners / permissions ... Ill try booting Linux or if not reformat my SD...
Thanks

[UPDATE] APN List - Most updated APN (Most countries EU, SEA, AU, US)

This APN will work when you want to cook you own ROM including South East Asia. By default should be at system/etc
Or alternatively you can use APN Backup & Restore
NOTE: For those use for custom ROM, bear in mind it may take a while to search on your current network after flashing. But it should work. If doesn't work, please update your self

You may use Root Explorer, just copy the apn-conf.xml to system/etc
Replace the existing apn-conf (or make back-up first)
Change file permission to rw-r--r-- (sometimes you didn't have to)
Finally, go to Setting> Wireless Networks> Mobile Networks> Access Point Names
and click "Reset to Default" from the menu and select the profile.
That should works.
mine is stuck on restoring default apn settings. what do i do?

MMS fix for people on ICS not sending pics(works)

*Pretty please make a NANDROID backup before you do this. I know you just recently installed the ROM, so if you don't have much on there and don't mind to flash in the event that something goes wrong, then no worries. Still, it wouldn't hurt!!*
Basically, what we are doing here, is giving you the app, installing it on the phone and then copying the APK file from /data/app to /system/app. I don't know much about the Fassy, but the file system structure should be close.
There are two ways to do this. You can use ADB to execute the commands, or use a file explorer (I use Root Explorer) to move the APK file. I also picked a free APN app .
APN Manager Pro
Throw this on your external SD card. Once you have it on there, open up your File Manager.
Navigate to your external SD card(should be /mnt/sdcard/external_sd or something similar, we have already established our phones are slightly different, ha ha).
Find the file ale.android.apnmanagerwithanimation-1.apk and long press it. You should get a list of options. You want to select move.
Navigate back to your root directory.
Go to /system/app. Once you get there, depending on your file manager, you should have the option to set the permissions as r/w (read/write). By default, Root Explorer is always set to r/o (read only) on my phone.
Paste the APK file.
Long press the APK file and select permissions.
- You have three sets of privileges: Read/Write/Execute
- You have three sets of groups: Owner/Group/Others
- - Make sure Owner, Group and Others have checks under Read.
- - Make sure Owner has checks under Write.
- - There should not be any checks under Execute.
- - There should not be any checks on any of the special permissions.
Hit OK.
Click on the APK file and select install.
Once the install has completed (should be almost instantly) reboot the phone.
Now you have an app that is capable of setting APN information.
When the phone has booted back up, open the app and select Backup & Restore. Make a backup. If the new APN doesn't work properly, you will have a backup you can fallback to.
Enter the information and hit save. Once you have done that you can select the APN and set it as the main. If you lose functions then restore the backup.
I hope this works out!!

i did all of this but im still cant receive MMs .plzzz help plus im geting a error 131 its sayng that Username and password failure data service
This is the biggest hurdle, which very few people have successfully gotten to work. It is not a perfect solution but it works very well for us.
Download the following Zip file (not flashable):
download
Follow these instructions carefully:
1. Download and install Titanium Backup. You will also need the PRO version, so you'll need to shell out a couple of bucks if you don't already own it. It's well worth it anyways.
2. Download and install APN Backup & Restore from the Market.
3. Open APN Backup & Restore, ignore the ICS warning, and click on "Backup APNs". Exit out of APN Backup & Restore.
4. Place this folder in your SD Card.
5. Copy MetroPCS_MMS_Send_APN.xml from this folder to the APN Backup folder in the root of the SD Card.
6. Open Titanium Backup, go under Backup/Restore, and find APN Backup & Restore, press and select "Make system app."
7. Open APN Backup & Restore, ignore the ICS warning, press menu, and disable ICS check. Exit APN Backup & Restore.
8. Open APN Backup & Restore again, and now there should not be an ICS warning!
9. Click on "Delete APNs."
10. Click on Restore APNs and select "MetroPCS_MMS_Send.APN.xml".
10a. Press Ok after selecting the above.
10b. Press No when you get the message asking Yes or No.
11. Using Root Explorer or a similar app, copy the SecMMS.apk file from this folder to your /system/app/ folder.
11a. Make sure you are in R/W mode and click Yes to overwrite existing file if you get the message.
11b. Make sure to delete/overwrite any existing SecMms.apk from the /system/app directory. You should only have one SecMms.apk file.
11c. Make sure to delete any SecMms.odex if you're on the stock or an odexed rom.
12. Set permissions to RW-R--R--
13. Reboot.
14. Open the Messaging app and under Settings make sure to check (enable) "SMS split".
