CDMA Custom ROMS are better than GSM ROMS? - Hero, G2 Touch Android Development

Don't know if it fits here but I thought maybe the ROM developers would have an answer for this...
It seems the CDMA Hero ROMs are for some reason faster and more stable than the GSM Hero ROMs, is it true? any reason it might be like that?

The cdma cooked roms are based on a more update/complete leak. This is why more things work or work smoother.
Once the GSM official update is out you wont see any messing around converting CDMA roms to GSM phones.

isn't VillainROM 5.2 based on a CDMA leak? when you port it to GSM you loose some stability?

Yeah, a lot of 2.1 roms are based on CDMA leaks.

If any stability is lost then it will be down to the fact that its not designed for our GSM Hero phones.
Its a comparison that should not be made, compare a complete GSM ROM release or leak to a CDMA one for a fairer test. At the moment were still waiting on a GSM one for Android 2.1

Yeah I know it's not a fair comparison
But now we can already see the "April 16th" date is irrelevant and we're off to the next speculated date "end of April"
Thank god for ROM devs

OTA is on the end of april, the RUU still might be the 16th, or am i being optimistic

cdma sense 3.0 rom?

are there any roms with sense 3.0 or better that are for the cdma devices?
Check dev section.
been there and checked it out but not sure what roms will work with the cmda uscc version of the desire?
If it's not explictly written in the rom's thread, then it's not supported.
I was looking into this as well. It seems all support is for the GSM version of the phone, but much of the US, aside from those on AT&T and T-Mobile, use CDMA phones. I'm currently using CyanogenMod, but I'd also be interested in an upgraded Sense ROM.
There are ROMs in the dev section here that claim to have CDMA support via a CDMA patch, but I've tried all of them, and in most cases my phone will boot, but certain features won't work. I've even had everything work except for wi-fi, which is rather important. For now, I guess there's no Sense 3.0 or 3.5 support for the CDMA Desire.
Yep, Wifi, accelerometer and some other stuff isn't working. It probably never will. Thats what we get for having a phone that isn't a flagship on sprint/verizon
coolexe did a CDMA version i think called cooldroid... but it wasnt bang up to date with sense 3.0/3.5 - think it only had 2.1

[Q] Best ROMs support GSM?

What are good ROMs that DO support GSM? I live in VietNam where only use GSM.

Not so. By stock I mean what comes on the phone when you buy it brand new. Gingerbread 2.3.4 sense 2.1. If it's based on stock firmware, you should be good for GSM.
When I boot up Andybones stock or Gingerbang sense for the first time after flashing, it defaults into GSM/Global mode.
Skyraider Zeus, andyBONESTOCK, GingerBangSense (or GingerSense, although abandoned, I think) should all work. I'm sure there are others I have not run across or taken the time to look at. As previously noted, any based on the stock ROM should be good for GSM. Note: I've never needed it so I can't really confirm.

Tks... I will try
Even though its still a beta, I'd say Aeroevans CM9 Kang (2-15-2012).
Its quite smooth and runs awesome. The battery life is pretty nice too. Granted I'm and Android 4.x.x fan though.

Known Issues with tegra 3 one x?

Hi all,
I am a LG G2x owner that foolishly bought the phone knowing it was a dual core phone at a cheap price. After exploring forums, I later found out LG never updates the device and there are coding problems so we will never get fully working ics/jb on it. Thankfully, there were no glaring hardware flaws.
Is there any software/hardware flaws that I need to know about before I buy one off of ebay? I know a bit about the wifi hardware issue. How many people are affected by it? I just don't want to be caught in a dead end phone with constant problems.
On another note how is the battery life?
Thanks guys.
No s-off....
I've had no wifi issues. Most phones have the JB update. I wouldn't hold your breath for anymore though. ROM development is pretty good. AOKP/AOSP have ironed out most bugs so you have lots of options there.
Battery life is on par for phones with similar screen size etc. It should easily get you through the day with "normal" use.

Do most people or minority have the WiFi issue? Is there any road blocks that would stop development? (Like driver stuff not hardware) for example the radio on g2x has weird coding or something that stops call audio to work in cm development.

Our phones are still semi-locked. We couldn't install SENSE roms without the firmware update from HTC, which was rolled out slowly and is limited to very specific regions. The majority of unbranded handsets and some branded have the latest firmware so are good to go.
AOSP/AOKP roms don't have this limitation, so we've been able to install them all along.
HTC releases their kernel source eventually, so I think we're OK on that front. We are still waiting on the JB kernel, however.
I think the wifi issue was more of a problem when people were installing the leaked JB firmware. It wasn't a final product and had a few issues, wifi being one of them. Now that the official firmware has been released, I haven't seen this issue so much.

OK good I like clean android anyway. Would unbranded international phones get the updates first?
Sent from my sexy G2x
The Taiwan phones got the official update first (it turned out to have issues).
A few weeks later the Asia WWE (world wide english) versions got a newer update that doesn't seem to have any issues followed by International WWE version.
Now India, Philippines, Egypt, Romania, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong unbranded phones have updates.
The ones that are still waiting are carrier branded like H3G, Orange, Vodafone etc.
(There are some brilliant roms based off the official sense roms with a few tweaks here and there)

Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to try all the diff options for ROMs before settling . But first I gotta win the eBay auction I refuse to settle for the dual core version

Haha. Good luck man!
The stock ones I've tried, and think are great, are Maximus and ARHD for JB. Viper ROM is my fav, but no JB just yet.
Here is a great list of the available roms, listed as sense, or non-sense (AOKP/AOSP/MIUI) roms
Thanks just an hour left

Just looked up what s-off meant.. I'm still a little confused. What types of ROMs are s-off and what are s-on? I didn't face these on the lg threads
Sent from my sexy G2x
S-On means that we can't flash boot.img files from recovery. We have to do it from fastboot. Generally, all except a special few are s-on.
We also don't have full access to parts of the phone like radio or hboot.
The issue with the Sense JB roms is that they were dependant on a new hboot, which had to be rolled out officially. This doesn't affect AOSP roms, it was only to do with a restriction HTC had on their Sense modifications.
As long as the phone you're buying isn't carrier branded, you will be able to flash just about everything. (you may need to update it first)

Ah ok I think I get it. So basically custom Roms have to come from vanilla android not based off of sense Roms? And the one I'm getting is 32GB unlocked international one x with tegra 3
Sent from my sexy G2x
Custom roms that are modified from the sense roms require a certain hboot version. Hopefully the one you're getting is one that has the update rolled out.
You'll have fun with it either way, it's a great phone. There are some great roms out there.

You live in the USA and want to buy the international One X? Fair enough...
It can go through the day quite easily with moderate usage, but if you use it more than 4hours a day it might be difficult.

Lol I wanted T 3 version and one x+is too expensive . I don't like the display on s3 and how hyped it was. I would have gotten optimusg but not much DEV support. The nexus 4 would have worked but overpriced on eBay. I'm on T-Mobile and don't use data so 4g doesn't bother Me. If I was to get data. It would be in Chicago where T-Mobile has refarmed the 1900 towers for 4g.

I don't have any issues with battery running out. (I can get 1.5 days out of one charge) I don't do anything special like underclocking... Actually, I do use advanced power mod to reduce automatic brightness levels.
I think you'll only run into issues if you love playing games, or don't have a job and use your phone aaaaalll day.

[Q] Suggestions for modem?

I live in the Baltimore, MD area and I'm using Boost Mobile. I'm running JellyBAM android 4.2.2 currently, and plan to switch to CM11 if/when data is working.
Any suggestions for best modem for 3g speed/reception?

Just try different ones... make sure they are ICS modem's though or you won't have data.
Remember... just because we all have the same device... doesn't mean that they run the same. So what works best for you might not work best for another..
Good luck.

I've heard this before, and it doesn't make much sense. Yes, location matters, but two of the same phone in the same location will likely produce negligible differences in reception when using the same modem.

You sound upset... that wasn't my intention buddy. But I can tell you that I have had two epic's and my first one hated JB modem's and my current one gets great signal on JB modem's... and yes it's the same area and no new towers.
Maybe it was the difference in ICS and JB, I'm not sure.
But fl24 is the newest ICS modem and that's what I get the best signal with when I'm running any cm/aosp/aokp based roms... and I've tried quite a few different modems. That was in the Chicago area and Springfield area... both in Illinois.
Also... this current epic runs aokp roms great.. where my first one wouldn't... all chips are not created equal or maybe I just didn't now what I was doing then...
Hope somebody in youre area jumps in with some info for you. Good luck..

No, not upset. My apologies if I came off that way. I work with radios on embedded devices and my experience has been that they all perform within <1% difference of each other when running the same software. Now, it's quite possible to have bad chips, but then all sorts of things go wrong and no amount of software can adequately compensate.
My guess is that ICS vs JB did make the difference for you. And as for AOKP roms running better, maybe it was a different version of the ROM?
Thanks for the input about FL24. I'll try it out.
I have two Epic 4G Touchs in my possession
One of them I can't even get data working on Any AOSP ROMS even though I was using ICS and GB modems.
I now use it as a media device so it doesn't really matter.
My daily driver is the complete opposite.
I get the best reception using FC14 modem.
Unless someone lives in your area with the same phone, they can tell you which modem works best for said area.

will s6 edge get cyanogenmod?

as the title states will we get cyanogenmod? There's lots of talk about only touchwize roms because of the processor our phone uses etc. Just wondering if we have hope for cyan or other aosp roms like slim or pa.

Unlikely, I can't remember what exactly is needed from Samsung but they will not give "it" to us, and until then, unlikely.

Thanks I figured as much.
