Built in Slide to Unlock sucks - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey guys I found the built in hold down the hangup button for a few secs slide to unlock thing, which is cool, but it seems like it doesn't work for ****, I had S2U for my Fuze and it never still unlocked. This one I will set it, turn it off, stick it on my case on my belt pull it out and its on some random screens, wtf?? Anyone have any ideas?

and it always seems to be on the alarm or clocks screens when it unlocks itself if that helps narrow it down.

Try this. Sounds like the magnets in your case are waking up the device.

I had a hunch since my Fuze used to have a magnet too but it never had that issue, awesome man thanks!

Hermes Magnetic Switch

Ok, so here is the story...
Each time I'd take my phone out of the case and turned it on, it would be in landscape and revert immediately back to portrait. I assumed it was an issue with the ROM, but one I could live with...
Today, while reading through the forum, I took the case off my belt, took out my phone and turned it on and set the phone on my case. It instantly switched to landscape... without pulling out the keyboard.
Long story short, turns out there must be a magnetic switch inside the back of the phone just over half way down that can control landscape/portrait.
I got to thinking that there are some pretty damn brilliant developers in here, and maybe if somebody found where that switch was, they could get a program going that could turn off the screen and switch the phone to vibrate when the phone was holstered.
I have no idea if it would or could work, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.
how did u manage to keep it Landscape?

Uhh ya. 10char
Yup the magnet in the case sure does cause the phone to turn to landscape...not sure if there is a fix, but thats the reason why i dont use my case anymore...

The problem with using a case with a magnet is if the magnet is to strong it will eventually disable the touch screen.
Not to crap on the idea, but I was under the impression the magnet was for the keyboard slide, so that the screen rotates when the keyboard is expanded- so if you were to reprogram that functionality when holstered, it would do the same thing when you slid out the keyboard....which I doubt is what you want to happen
This has been discussed in another thread somewhere, apparently if you put the phone in the case with the screen facing backwards it doesnt affect the rotation.
On the strong magnet, screen damage issue, I doubt HTC would ship the case if that were the possible.
The only thing You can make is putting Your phone correctly in the case.
Screen must be in front of you, back outside, and usb port should be left.
In this position You will not rotate Your screen pulling out the phone I hope

magnet in case canceling sleep mode.

Am i the only one who is having this issue? My phone wakes up while in the case due to the magnet. At first i thought that the sleep and awake button was getting hit when i pit it in the case, but even sitting the phone on top of the case still does it. Is there anyway to turn this feature off?
i am new to windows mobile so thanks in advance.

Apparently magnets in the case can turn the phone on, mine sometimes turns on but it seems only to do this if the magnet is passed over the bottom part of the screen where the hardware buttons are.
I haven't seen anyone coming up with a fix, I suppose it really depends if this is a feature or an accidental thing

Apache was the same way... I believe it actually uses a magnetic switch to detect when it's slid open. I discovered that I could use a magnet (the one in my case, no less) to rotate the screen.
Yeah, it's a pain.
I found this in the archive but i am not sure how to edit a registry (if im reading it correctly). Is anyone a bit more savvy than me thats willing to try what is discussed on this post?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-453771.html
The above post is the reg edit that I use every time I flash. Fixes the problem perfectly.
Mine was already 0
So that must not be the problem for mine

Does the EVO have the magnet sensitivity when in a case???

My Blackberry's had a magnet sensitivity or something that when in a case/holster,etc it would go into a "screen off" mode, or if enabled "locked".
Does anyone know if the EVO has this same thing. I absolutely hate having to continuously push the power button to get the screen to come on when I take it out of my pocket and would love to get a case if this works. It would be cool that the screen would automatically turn off when putting in case, and when pulling out, the screen would come on and all I would have to do is swipe to unlock it.
I searched around but couldn't find anything related to my question... THANKS
sounds like what you really need is another blackberry.
I believe there is some type of sensor present, but it is used to put the device into carkit mode. I've already had this go haywire and had to get a replacement EVO. With the open source opportunities our devices present I'm sure someone could change the function of this sensor with time, but at present I don't believe this function is present.
Yeah, nothing like that as of yet, but I don't see why someone couldn't build it in. There are only two issues that I could see arise from this though:
Issue 1: If you ever bring your phone close to a magnet, won't it lock it? I know, how rare could that happen, but still.
Second: You would have to have either an app running at all times to detect this, and thus further diminish your battery life or you would need it built into android. Good luck with the latter, but the former is probably doable (kind of like the Motorola Droid's docking station thingies.)
All the app would need to do is detect the magnetic pull and lock the phone, then when goes away while in a locked state it unlocks it.
Either way, there's nothing out as of yet, and I doubt there will be, so don't hold your breath.
Edit: Oh yeah, and I wonder if maybe RIM has this idea patented? If so, then you'll never see it. I'll bet it's patented since I don't know of any other phone that does it. Though, my knowledge of phones is limited, still...

[Q] Wife Claims Ghost Buttons During Calls

So whenever I talk to my wife she always ends up hitting buttons on the screen. (mute, speaker, etc) I told her that the screen should automatically turn off and that maybe something was wrong with her device. As soon as I got home I tested it and it worked just fine. I couldn't get it to happen, light sensor was very responsive.
Somehow she manages to hit buttons and I have no idea how. I covered up the light sensor and tried hitting every button/screen area and nothing happened.
Has anyone else experienced this before? Is there something I can settings/mods wise to help?

Another funny thing is she said her boss at work has the same problem (female) and her husband has no issue.... Ha! I don't think they have Evos though.
my wife was having the same problem and we narrowed it down to her hair causing interference with the screen sensing that her face was against it. dont know if that makes sense but seemed logical to us and now that she tries to be aware of it and move her hair out of the way the problem doesnt seem to exist. hope this helps.

Weird! Does the screen actually turn on then? I should watch the screen next time she makes a call on it.
yeah the screen was turning on while she was using it. i think whenever she would basically readjust the phone against her head it would happen if the hair would cause interference...again i'm not claiming this is some scientific answer but its what we found seemed to be causing issues for her

My wife had the same issue...earrings.
Yep, Yep. My wife has the same issue but I've never had a problem. I'm going to show her this thread so that at least she knows it's not just her. lol.

How would the earrings affect it?
I think it's actually the proximity sensor being highly in tune to how close it needs to be to the ear/face. It takes very little movement of the phone during a call to trigger the sensor and turn the screen back on. They probably don't even realize they're moving the phone as much as they are.

During a call, I pulled the phone away, moved it around, etc and watched for screen to come one. It did not come on easily. I don't get it.
I need to watch her during a call and test some things.
My sis has the same issues with the moment, and I tried it out and it was fine. She does seem to use it outside her hair and does have a lot of earrings. Though this is the Moment, it still runs android and has the sensors. I'll let her know and see if she'll enjoy her phone again lol.

Still not sure what the issue/solution even is.
She picked up my phone last night and accidentally hung up on the person during the call! I didn't get a chance to see what happened...
She's starting to hate these phones. I need a solution.
Not a joke...but are these ladies blonds? At start of thread I was thinking hair color or earrings too. But earrings shouldn't impact the sensor as it is up top of phone and earrings would be down toward the screen.
But...if their hair was very light color...and they had phone only loosely pressed to head, I could 'guess' that the hair had enough light reflecting through it to set off the sensor.
Another thing to check on the earring side....what part of phone contacts first...do earrings hit the screen before head covers up the sensor?
My wife had dark brown hair :x
My wife too. Dark brown hair. With and without earrings. Swapped out one device, same problem. She even made it happen on mine.
I have seen it get in a mode where the proximity sensor seems to get reversed. Near head, screen on, away from head screen off. A button gets pushed at some point and then when the screen is on you can't un-mute, un-speaker, or answer a returned call from the one she just hung up on.
I think we are going to have to get her a different phone
I have the same issue but it only seems to come up with AOSP ROM's (Cyanogen & UD)
If I call Sprint and hit the prompts followed by putting the phone to my ear it presses other numbers. I think there is a delay in the proximity sensor that's causing this. I don't have long hair and my face is clean shaved so it's not that.
If I go to show someone that when everything works perfect. It's like when you call tech support for Dell, Netgear, etc. It works when you're on the phone with them and when you get off it doesn't.
I've noticed this in the past. If you are talking on the phone and you cant it just a little bit away from your ear, towards your face, you can see the backlight come back on. Also, hair can carry a static charge. So if your ladies cant the phone and the screen turns on, their hair could trigger a button press.

[Q] Screen Unlocking Problem.

Hello all! I have a problem with my TP2’s unlocking “feature”. I am very aware of the magnetic leather case issue, I found that out when I attempted to purchase a case and my screen went nutty. This has been a annoying more than anything. The phone is only 3 months old. I have tried a full Hard Reset, and I’m currently running on of MR X’s rom, so I don’t believe it’s a software issue. There is nothing magnetic around me when it happens. I just dial people randomly now. I can see theres a registry edit, but I really want to keep the original function of unlocking with opening the keyboard, and pulling the stylus out. I’m thinking that I’ll have to do the registry edit or end up with a locker app, like throttle locker. But I always check here 1st, for suggestions. Thanks for any info or help you can give. P.S. This was a brand new replacement phone, and is about 3 months old. It has only been doing this for a few weeks now, but it started way before any "tweaking".
Ok, I 1/2 figured it out. If I Touch the screen the wrong way, and it turns the smallest amount clockwise, I can hear a "click" and the screen lights up, and unlocks, as if i opened the phone. My guess is that my screen is wicked loose. But my question is, is it a switch that activates the unlock? I was under the impression, that both the stylus, and the screen slide work off of magnets, and thats what tells it to unlock. But the clicking noise sure does sound like a switch. Thanks Again!
Ok, last time. Its not a switch which knew, but was hoping for. Switches can be easier. As far as the unlocking problem, its amazing how sensitive it is, it seems if i blew on it hard enough it'll unlock. I did the reg edit, which didnt disable my "stylus to wake", which is great, so I'm a happy camper. Someday i'll take it apart. lol
