Has always there always a little learning curve with any new phone and especially when you move from a different Manufacture. (got a Omnia i8910)
Question re phone contacts.
Just had a few contacts (vcards) and a couple have a home & Mobile numbers. when i choose PHONE some are defaults to the HOME number and some to the Mobile. all fine i guess.
question is how do you select the other associated number. not the primary one?
contact x: primary Landline.. secondary: Mobile.
How do i call the secondary number (the mobile).
also . what the advantage of PHONE contacts & Google contacts?
before i spend ages updating Google..lol.. would presume Google contacts would have more features?

Hi all,
for a while back I had a problem with my Desire where it suddenly started asking for my PIN code continuously, loosing connections and all. I did a full reset on the phone then synced it with my PC again (Outlook 2007).
After this I don't know what's happened but all phone numbers that used to be in international format, i.e. +31631231231 turned into numbers like 31631231231, i.e. without the +, and in a number of cases spaces were added, making it look like 31 631231231. Some of these seem to work as they are, but many are giving me error when I try to call the contact or send an sms or so.
In addition I noticed that many of my contacts somehow are doubles, linked to eachother
No idea how this happened or why, anybody who does? And, more importantly, anybody who knows how to solve it?
Cheers
//Joris
Did I run into a unique problem (again) ?
i would do from scratch, write all contacts down and delete all contacts on phone, and retype them as google contacts.
with over 250 contacts...
What's the advantage with Google contacts over SIM/Phone contacts?
One part of the problem might be that the phone during it's previous installation at some point imported info from Facebook as well I think - sucks.
i feel the pain
advantage is: better sync **** etc.....

Yesterday i imported all my sim contacts to phone because seems the only way i can customize(link with facebook, change photo, etc) but now when i press the "phone" button i can see my contacts 2 times, sim and phone which is annoying...even if i unchecked SIM contacts in "Peoples", so i guess "Phone" and "Peoples" are 2 different apps. Anyway my question is if there is any way to hide SIM contacts from contacts ?
btw using htc sense.
in People | Menu | View | Uncheck SIM
HTH
Hey, thx for reply but you didn`t understood, il show some screens ->
even if i unticked the sim, i still see sim contacts when i press the "PHONE" button but in PEOPLE it`s okay so that`s why i said i think that People is a different app than "Phone" ( middle button on htc sense)
This is not currently possible in HTC Sense AFAIK.
Quite annoying really, as I would prefer to keep a backup of my contacts on the SIM card.
I know the problem. It has been a bug since 2.1, possibly even before.
Used to pi$$ me off on my Hero and now my DHD too
HTC need to fix it.
I'm suffering from this and a similar problem with the 'phone' menu in relation to facebook contacts.
I too like to keep a backup of my contacts on the sim (or preferably only on the sim), but when going through the 'phone' button on the home screen it shows them no matter what.
When I have a facebook account registered in my accounts and sync, whether its the Facebook app or the Facebook for HTC Sense account it'll sync all of my facebook friends over into my 'phone' list no matter what options I change - and believe me I've tried everything!
In an ideal world I would like to be able to have the 'phone' list only show the contacts from my sim (or copied to the phone and the sim contacts hidden) and only update the Facebook information (picture / status) for the people I have linked a facebook account for.
I'm really hoping that this is rectified in 2.3 as while it by no means makes the phone useless, it makes the 'phone' button - currently the largest button on my homescreen - not user friendly.
Grim.
Dear RobE9 et al, HI!
Did anyone find a solution to this? - It's currently annoying me too. I agree that it's totally uncomfortable and I haven't yet found a work around.
I will start playing with different ROMs if there is no solution.
Guys I Think Its Solved in Sense 3.0 Android 2.3.5 Just Do As Told And Then Rebbot Your Phone
My AT&T HTC Tilt 2 is nearly a year old now, and I've recently run into a very irritating problem. Every time I try to use the "Update Now" feature (Contacts -> Updates and Events tab -> Menu -> Update Now) to update contacts' Facebook pictures and whatnot, the entire UI crashes and has to reload. No error messages or anything like that at all; the screen simply freezes for 15-30 seconds and the HTC Launching TouchFLO 3D screen comes up.
This issue has expanded to encompass any time I try to edit a contact (on that note, the "Link to Facebook account" button no longer does anything except cause TouchFLO to crash) or even open the Updates and Events tab.
I'm still using the same ROM that came with the phone (hard reset once or twice, so essentially the same thing), meaning Windows Mobile 6.5. Like I previously mentioned, I'm using the TouchFLO 3D UI (my attempt to update to the Sense UI went terribly).
Is there anything I can do to fix this, aside from hard resetting again? I've got a lot of contacts (more than will fit on my SIM card, in fact), and I'd really rather not go through all the steps of personalizing my phone for a third time if I don't have to. It'll be like November before I'm eligible for an upgrade with AT&T, so that's not a viable option right now, as much as I might like it to be.
Another side note: Using Windows Mobile Device Center, is there a way to basically copy all of my contacts and whatnot from my phone to my computer without adding in the contacts from Outlook? I'd really rather not deal with a bunch of random email addresses sitting in my phone's contact list. If this is possible, I may just try to use this method, hard reset, and then put the contacts back on the phone. The rest of the personalization isn't nearly as time-consuming as adding in another 80-ish contacts and then fixing the names of the ones I managed to fit onto the SIM card (because the SIM card saves them in the format of "Smith, John" in the last name field and nothing in the first name field...).
I've also got a 16GB microSD card, if that would be of any benefit in any of these endeavors.
Any and all help is appreciated! Thanks!
Any ideas?
Not sure about all your facebook issues, but a great, quick and easy program that can save and restore contacts anywhere (including your storage card, if you like) is PIM Backup:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1189061&postcount=1
I use it all the time since I flash daily and I NEVER have any problems restoring my 200+ contacts using PIM Backup.
I have another problem. problem is that when I get into Phone to look for a person to call ,contacts appear to me 2 times, once from gmail account and the second time from sim but that option is disabled to see contacts from the sim card , and when I want to send a msg is the same problem.
what can i do to see only the gmail/phone contact??? Without sim contacts
sorry for my englis hand I hope you understand the problem
Is that a Sense ROM you're using?
I believe there are two places where you need to make the change for what to view. Where they are I can't help, I don't use Sense but check settings in both phone dialer and contacts / people app and main SMS screen.
I had a similar issue a LONG time ago with my HTC Hero when it was on Sense (that will be the first day then) and it turned out to be a cache issue.
Contacts view
It's under the view settings. You can untick google/facebook/phone/sim contacts and they will dissapear from the view.
With Sense look in
Settings > Accounts and Snyc > HTC Sense, if enabled and synced it should offer you a contacts merge. Might take a little while for it all to come through depending on how many contacts you have, what speed your phones connection is and also if you happen to be in Australia (like me) whether or not the server is operating properly.
If it is a Sense Rom being used and sense isnt working please reply and i'll post the steps HTC told me to go through.
Not sure what to do about this so I figured I would try asking here. I have a samsung galaxy note 2 AT&T version. I have had this issue in the past with my Note 1. The issue is that when I have an existing google contact that has a new phone number or an extra phone number. I will erase the old number on my phone and add the new one. As soon as the sync finishes it will delete the new number I just added and put back the old number. Or if I add a number to the existing google contact it won't sync the new one but just keeps the old number. It makes me angry because I keep losing new numbers because it's erasing them and putting back the old number. All of my contacts are google contacts, they all have the G next to them in my phonebook and all of the contacts are in my contacts the default google group. The phone is stock and has not been rooted. Also I'm not using any apps for my phonebook. Any ideas? Thanks
Motorola Droid PRO
I am having the exact same problem as described above! Drives me crazy. One day I add a number, the next is gone.
New contacts get synced, they appear also in browser, but updating a contact on the phone is useless. Gets overwritten by the information on the server, the one I see in browser when I access Google contacts.
Motorola Droid Pro is my phone, running Android 2.3.4, fresh reset to factory settings, no root. Can someone please tell us what are we doing wrong?
