E-mails not updating at set internvals - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Hey all,
I'm having an issue with my phone not pulling new e-mails when it's supposed to. I have my tilt2 set up to send/receive every 10 minutes. Sometimes this works, but a lot of the time it won't update unless I bring my phone out of sleep and perform a task that pulls data, then it updates. I also noticed that when I clicked on my inbox recently it said "connecting..." on the bottom and updated my inbox with all of the emails I received in the past 4 hours. I'm using SBCGlobal for my email isp. Here's the settings that I'm using (note that these are what's recommended for proper connections)
Incoming mail server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Account type: IMAP4
Username: [email protected]
Outgoing mail server: smtp.mobile.yahoo.com
Outgoing server requires authentication: Checked
Use the same user name and password for sending e-mail: Checked
Require SSL for Incoming e-mail: Unchecked
Require SSL for Outgoing e-mail: Unchecked
Network connection: The Internet
I've tried using Seven for Pushmail but I had an issue with it not staying connection 24/7 so it seems that I ran into a similar issue as I am having here. Other people that use sbcglobal and these settings claim that it works for them. I really don't have any other e-mail addresses that receive e-mails often enough for me to check, and I'm sure as soon as I started manually testing those they'll work.
I receive a lot of updates that affect my daily routines by e-mail so this is rather troublesome. Does anyone know of a fix for this, or if by chance it's actually an issue with my email isp?

Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?

I have the exact same problem... Belgian network and using IMAP mail settings.. Sometimes it updates, sometimes it doesn't...

Has anyone found a solution to this or perhaps know why it's happening? It's really annoying having to manually update e-mails and receive 2 hours worth when it's set to auto-update every 10 minutes.

Problems sending email via GPRS

Can anyone help.
I use the ordinary pre-installed outlook program on my MDAIII. I have always been able tos end and receive pop email over wifi and I can receive email no probelms via gprs. However, when I send messages via gprs they come back as undeliverable. I don't think it used to happen all the time but I think it is doing now.
I have never changed the rom versions or done anything like that so I shouldn't have done it any serious damage.
Any help anyone?
Check if your e-mail acount provider needs password for outgoing emails. If so, probably writing your user name and password which you use to read your incoming mails to outgoing mails section will solve your problem.

Thats sounds logical - although wouldn't that affect me sending mail via wifi? it works fine via wifi - just not GPRS?
That's also logical. :wink:
If your mail account provider needs an SSL connection and specify the incoming and outgoing ports, your GPRS carrier may not support this kind of connection.
SOrry to be dim but I am not sure I am quite with you. I know that some of my emails have previously got through but have no idea why this has changed. DO you know how I need to check these settings as I am not sure about it at all.

The problem is some weard logic from the ISP's. You probably have an email account with the ISP that gets you your internet connections as well at home.
When using WiFi @ home you still send your email via your own ISP.
When you send email via GPRS, the email will be send via your GSM/GPRS provider of your sim-card which will be another telco/isp.
For some reason telco's/ISP won't allow you to send mail, using the smtp (outgoing mail) server of your own ISP. This is why it won't work via GPRS.
It very much depends on your telco company to get this working. I know the trick for vodafone in the Netherlands, but that won't help you I think. Most of the time some smart "googling" will help.

Although it was long winded andnot exactly easy I have solved this by the most logical method.
I have kept my settings the same for my 3 pop email accounts (same ISP) for wifi and set up one new one called gprs etc. for sending mail by gprs with the outgoing server as smtp.t-mobile.co.uk rather than that of my isp. Thanks very much for sending me in the right direction.
Warning to anyone else struggling with similar probelms - you need to keep the acounts seperate I think. have one for wifi and one for gprs as the outgoing servers are going to be different and the blasted machines can't cope with automatically switching.

Can only receive emails, can't send

I used the proxy settings at the HTC Wiki to setup my Dash with my T-Zones internet. Internet works fine. I'm having a problem with sending mail. I can receive mail fine. When I go to send I get this message:
"The following errors occurred while sending and receiving messages:
the messages cannot be sent . Be certain you have network coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again."
I have a strong signal, get all my emails, can browse the internet.This problem just started happening. WM6 Beta worked fine. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I'm having a similar problem. I just tried to setup windows live mail, and it only works over wifi. I get that network coverage error every time I try and sync mail over edge.
I didn't use live mail frequently with the beta, but it definitely worked over edge when I did use it....Seems like something is up.
T-Zones service doesn't included email, sounds like they're starting to close up the loophole that allowed you to use it with the T-Zones plan in the past? I think you'll find some other things not working as well, like Messenger?
Incoming v. Outgoing Servers
Your incoming and outgoing servers need to be different. If you can use your home wifi, but not edge to send, that means that you have your isp's info in the settings.
I originally made an IMAP account that could receive anywhere, but could only send when I was using a wifi network for which iIknew the outgoing server (ie. my home wifi). I used the "set up my email" option that tmobile offers, it works pretty well, since it configures the phone to send and receive. I pay for the 5.99 T-Zones plan, and this function works for me. Just make sure you log into your my.tmobile.com account and turn the text message alerts off (they send you, and charge you for, a text message every time you receive a new email).
They're definitely doing something. I can now send and receive from my aol account, but my .mac account keeps asking for my username and password. I can't login.
In the past in the settings of a pop account you can go into email setup and choose "Network Connection: Wap", in wm6 final there is no choice for wap. I think that is what is causing the problems

I noticed this as well, both on my Dash and my Vox. My Vox can use T-Zones to get on the internet with the proxy settings. Email had been working fine since I got it on Friday. The strange thing is is I can send email and receive with my aol accounts fine now (this morning they weren't working, only being able to receive).
My. mac account on my Dash now only is getting incoming mail, I can't send out. Earlier this morning I couldn't even log in or get incoming mail.
T-Mobile is definitely doing something because my aol accounts on both phones send and receive fine, now (hope it lasts)
Gmail is also working now, sending and receiving messages.
Hopefully they are just updating their servers since the official release is coming Friday, at least I hope this is what's going on.
as of 9pm EST even connecting Via WiFi I can't send out mail using my .mac account, only receive.
I get the error "the message cannot be sent. Be ceratin that you have network coveraage and that your account information is correct and then try again."

Gmail, aol still work fine on both T-Mobile EDGE and WiFi.
Uh-oh... looks like I might be going back to WM5.
Easy fix.
Use the proxy, except for everywhere it says use WAP Network under GPRS and Proxy settings, use Work.
Then make sure your IE uses work and your email uses work.
If you can get your IE working but not your email, here is your fix.
for each email account, go to tools>options>select your account> keep going through your email setup until you get to advance server settings.
click on advance server settings, and under network connection, select the same connection that you use for IE.. (should be anything except The Internet)
select it, then hit done (but you aren't done)
it should take you to the previous screen, then hit next, until you get to finish.
You have to make sure you hit finish to save your settings.
Usually if you can't send from your device you might not have set smpt relay on on your webmail account or enabled pop/smpt in general. I had that with a secure server account that I use for buisness and once I had set the settings to turn smpt relay on I had no problems - except it usually works better if i input the password manually. Gmail I have never had problems with after enabling pop.

Yahoo Mail

When I try to send messages it tells me that an error occurred and that it couldn't send the message. I don't know how this can be, because it retrieves my mail, it just won't send it. ???
You mean with Pocket Outlook using SMTP? (You must be a yahoo plus subscriber)
I have the same problem and managed to trace it down to the following:
The built in SMTP program does not authenticate itself 100% by the book. Can't tell exactly but I saw in the server log that it did something funny after HELO.
This causes some mail servers (on the receiving end) to ignore the mail entirely or think it's spam.
I only have this issue with my yahoo account though. Others (e.g. gmail) work fine from Outlook.
Hope it gets fixed in WM6...
T-mobile has a work around.
1) Go to T-Mobile and setup a email forwarding account (Set your phone as a MDA NOT A Dash
2) Turn off email forarding for incoming
3) ON Dash - Change outgoing SMTP to: myemail.t-mobile.com
4) Change user name (Use different than login - because you will still login to Yahoo using the pop or IMAP server to your10digitphonenumber:1
5) password is your yahoo password
Also change NO SSL on outgoing, and outgoing requires authentican checked.
This is also required if you use the dash as a modem on your laptop. I could not sent SMTP Trough T-mobile connectiosnt o laptop, but could if connected via a wifi connection that was not t-mobile.

Login problems with the HTC Mail application? (Solved)

Hello all.
A few weeks ago, my HTC mail app started acting up telling me "Login failed" anytime I tried refreshing the app to check my emails from both my Yahoo & Gmail account I have set upon it. I called Sprint, and after a ##3282# mission with them, they were able to get it to work. I was able to get my Gmail to work again, but the Yahoo mail wouldn't allow me to log in.
However, yesterday it started doing it again. This time, I tried the #3282# technique myself to no avail. I tried clearing the data from the app, but when I try to enter my user name/password, it tells me: "Authentication failed. Please check your user name/password." I know the login info ir correct, because I can login on any computer. Also, the dedicated Yahoo app works. However, I like using the HTC app for my emails and I want to get that one working again.
Sprint is now telling me they don't know what is going on, and want to:
a) Do a complete factory reset to my phone, or
b) Take it in to a Sprint store for service.
Does anyone have any ideas of something I can try before giving in to them?
I have the direct number to Sprint Tech Support, and they have me on hold researching the issue now. However, I don't think they are going to come back with anything helpful. I think I just got lucky with a good tech the first time I called and am now dealing with far less tech-savvy people.
Ok, so I found a tech at Sprint that was good. Here is what I had to do to get everything to work:
First, make sure you are on 3G. As silly as it may sound, being on WiFi did NOT allow me to sign in to adjust the incoming/outgoing server settings.
Incoming server settings:
Protocol: IMAP
IMAP Server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Security type: None
Port: 143
Outgoing server settings:
Login required: (checked)
SMTP server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Security type: None
Server port: 25
I hope this helps somebody out, because when I Googled my problem, a bunch of hits came up with no real solution.

[Q] K-9 Mail and GoDaddy IMAP Servers

I know this probably applies to a very narrow audience to begin with, but is anyone else having issues getting emails pushed to their phone/K9 Mail from GoDaddy hosted imap accounts? I've used K9 for my work email account for over a year now and never had any issues, emails would get pushed to my phone almost immediately after being received on our GoDaddy hosted imap account. However, about a week or so ago, I noticed that I would get Outlook desktop notifications well before I would get the same email pushed to my phone. After observing this behavior for the past week and testing a few things out, I've narrowed it down to either the way K9 Mail interacts with GoDaddy's mail servers, or GoDaddy's mail servers themselves.
On my phone, I set up two imap accounts in K9, one a gmail imap account and the other my work imap account (hosted by GoDaddy). I sent a single email addressed to both the gmail account and the work account and every single time I did this test, the email would be pushed to the gmail account almost immediately, whereas it would take at least 15 minutes for the same email to be pushed to my work account. This happens on both wifi and 3G/4G, which rules out network configurations as being the root cause of the problem.
As much as I would like a solution to this problem, I'm more curious as to whether anyone else has noticed this problem, and if so, they can perform the same test described above to see if they get the same result.

I had the same problem and had to upgrade my app. Made by the same people who made k9, there's an app called kaiten. That worked like a champ. Hope that helps! I had to switch for my email coming from my graphic design business.
Thanks for the reply. I've tried out several apps that include push support, including Kaiten, with the same results. The problem is either with K9 and the way it works with GoDaddy's email servers, or GoDaddy itself. I'm sure there's 0 chance of finding out which one since both can just blame it on the other.
Solution
Just wanted to follow up and not leave this thread hanging in case someone else runs into this issue, but the problem has been pinpointed and resolved. It turns out that when when you set the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net for GoDaddy-hosted email accounts, there are a total of four physical mail servers available and you are randomly assigned to one of them for access when you establish your imap connection. Two of the servers support imap idle ("push" email) and two do not, which is why sometimes push email works and other times it does not. It depends one which server you end up at when establishing the connection. To remedy this problem, instead of setting the incoming server to imap.secureserver.net, which will land you at one of the four GoDaddy mail servers, enter one of the two mail server IPs that DO support imap idle: 72.167.82.19 and 97.74.135.193
One thing to keep in mind is that on the off chance that the IPs for GoDaddy email servers change, you will obviously not be able to establish a connection and will need to reconfigure your email settings with the correct server address.
Full credit to Ashley Willis for finding the root cause and providing the solution, and Bernhard Redl for troubleshooting the issue as well, both of whom are devs for the K9 mail app.

Thank you for this as i have been searching high and low for a solution
so my company is hosting on godaddy and i got an email account with them i need for business, can you confirm this is still working? I will make the changes in my settings now and check to see if it works, what are your other settings?
I dont want to set my phone to check at set intervals every 1 minute is too much but what i need (ie push) but even every 15 minutes is too burdensome.
Would you mine running me through the settings for your phone?
btw im using the full paid version of aqua mail just recently and if there is a better app i can just refund this one and get another that will work. thanks

I tried editing my settings the first IP 72.167.82.19 would not take saying something about an incoming server error, the second one (97.74.135.193) did work but I am not receiving my emails until the 15 minute interval, Has anyone found a solution to this yet? or switching email providers is only way?
I've been using the 97.74.135.193 address for a nice long while now so I can't comment on whether or not the 72.167.82.19 is working still. It's possible GoDaddy has changed that mail server's address. After having used this "solution" for almost a year now, I can say that it works most of the time as far as pushing emails immediately to my phone as soon as they hit the mail server. What I've noticed is that when I'm on 3G, it will work as it should all the time, but sometimes when I get back to work and connect to the office wifi, my emails will only arrive at the set polling intervals.
My settings are as follows:
Incoming Mail
Username: user@domain.com
Pass: ************
IMAP Server: 97.74.135.193
Security: SSL (always)
Authentication: Plain
Port: 993
Auto-detect IMAP namespace: (checked)
Show only subscribed folders: (unchecked)

Thank you for this, I am on my way off the work so ill have to check the actual settings again at lunch but so far with the same server, im not getting push, still taking 15 or 30 minutes to receive even though i have check intervals at 15 minutes.
Should i be talking to aqua mail or godaddy or both?
this is boggling my mind.
I hear ya, it sucks and it's frustrating. Like I mentioned before, I'm using the 97.74.135.193 address right now at work and I can tell my emails are being pushed correctly because I'm receiving them within a minute of the "sent" time stamp and well before the email is picked up on Outlook on my desktop.
I haven't used aqua mail before, so I couldn't tell you how to get in touch with some support staff. I can tell you it was a hassle to get in touch with the K-9 devs and ended up taking a month or two and multiple emails before I got a response. Best of luck trying to get an answer from GoDaddy. I tried calling support with zero luck and started making some noise in the forums about it (http://support.godaddy.com/groups/email/forum/topic/imap-email-not-being-pushed-to-phones/) with no luck. Ultimately, GoDaddy says they don't support IMAP Push/Idle function, even though it had worked consistently for about a year and now only works intermittently. Let me know if you have further success or find something new that works.

so you are using the paid version of the K-9 email app correct?
I will give that a try because aquamail is not working like that, i am receiving emails when my app checks in 15 minute intervals, but i dont want the phone to keep checking like that

EVeryone use Kaiten, i wasted money on Aquamail, doesnt work properly, Kaiten just pushed, will try again and report throughout next couple days, but first email pushed right away!

I've used several different hosts on this app and the only one that doesn't always push mail as it should is GoDaddy. I would definitely recommend trying it out. The link up there is for the marketplace app, but you can download the newest updates from the developers' page: https://code.google.com/p/k9mail/downloads/list
I'm currently using 4.508 and it's totally stable. Haven't run across any problems yet.

Interesting, for me, both k-9 and aquamail did not work for godaddy push email, but kaiten seems to be working "eventhough godaddy doesnt support" I dont know what is right anymore, but all i know is i press the button on my computer and send a test email from my gmail account and i hear my phone beep before i lift my phone off my mouse (well within 2-4 seconds.) Aquamail and k-9 were not able to do it. maybe i wasnt getting the settings right for k-9, but i definitely didnt have to do anything with kaiten, worked immediately. Plus the UI for kaiten is much cleaner than K-9 and aquamail is just awful and hard to read.
**UPDATE***
k-9 does work with the server as awkwardbarnacle suggested, it was not working before when i was using the imap.secureserver.net that is listed in godaddy support and what they recommend over the phone.
aquamail is confirmed to NOT work however, even with the new server configuration. so its up to user preference. between kaiten and k-9, both work.
