Does anyone know how to disable this? I searched around and found 2 possible solutions which didn't work at all. I disabled it with Advanced Config, and I tried that EverApp thing, and I'm still having this problem.
It's just really frustrating because I try to open Palringo, and then switch to Opera Mobile and then Palringo closes! And then if I wait long enough, Opera will close if I get a phone call or something and I'll lose all my tabs!
I really don't understand the point of this? I could do more multi tasking on the first Tilt than I can with the Tilt 2.
I think the problem you discripe is a memory problem. When you run out of memory windows will automaticly shutdown some non-essential programs.
What windows/sense versions do you use?
Im not sure if this is what you mean, but here's my suggestion
Tap the top right corner of your screen to open Task Manager.
Then tap settings (Little pic of a spanner)
Then go to the 'Button' Tab.
Is the 'Enable the "X" button to end running programs' box checked? Check if unckecked.
Make sure 'End programs by tapping and holding "X"' is highlighted, NOT 'End programs by tapping "X"'
Now when you tap the "X" button to close running apps, it'll just minimize it instead of closing it. To close a program hold "X" down
its a memory thing, opera takes a lot of ram, so windows is wanting to close other apps when running it (or close opera when you run other apps)
Mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh how many times will this nonsense circle..

No, that's not the problem, I have it set to keep things open when I click X. I don't understand why things are getting closed when there's like 30 to 40m of ram free. I know about the issue with only 32 applications running, but I only have 18 open?
What other applications does this occur with other than Palingro?

You've verified you have 18 open how? MemMaid is what I use to see how many are running total, anything else who knows.
80% of this problem went away for me when I got rid of a few utilities I didn't need to run anymore and brought my idle processes down to 20ish.. Flexmail and Palringo are always running, often on top of that are Waze, GcZII, random other things.. and I use Opera a bit too. Haven't had a program get killed by the system in quite a while.

My Dash suffers from serious memory leaks. Just looked at task manager (because no apps would run due to low memory) and it has just 200kb available.
I have no apps installed on the device itself.
Shutting down all programs returns just 500kb.
If I reboot the phone I get 21,000kb available, but give it time and it will all have leaked away again.
I've had many different WM smartphones and they have never done this.
A great product with buggy software
Odd... this isn't an issue on my WM6 Dash...

Strange. Others are saying the same thing http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=255238&hl=memory (toward bottom of page).
I find that even if I quit all programs using task manager I am not returned to the same amount of memory as when I first boot up. Sometimes it can be as low as half or a quarter.
Guess I'm lucky. I disabled a couple things in the startup folder, MyFav and the voice recognition program, things became a lot zippier after that.

ya i have the same problem ( i de-activated myfaves and voice command) and when i boot up i have about 21K of free memory. a little while later i re-check my memory and its around 18K! towards end of day, even with all programs closed through task manager, i only have about 9K left. i dunno, its ridiculous. now i always turn it off for a few minutes at night, ha but then i run the risk of getting that endless boot up loop....

I also have this problem. One of the reasons I don't like Windows Mobile.
I wonder if it is leaking from IE. My Temporary Internet Folder never gets higher than a few k. On WM5 this could be several megs in size.
Anyone else getting memory problem on the WM6 Dash?
Use Oxios CloseApps...it helps a little
I'm fully resolved to the fact that it's just a combination of an OS that doesn't really manage memory well combined with applications that don't really clean up after themselves well either.
So, to make it through the day, I use Oxios CloseApps throughout the day. It seems to be the best at recouping memory. It's free (bonus!) and is very simple to use. You run it and it tells you how much memory it gained back and then you hit "ok" so it closes. Easy.
I'm also fully resolved that I have to reboot my Dash 1-3 times a day depending on how intensely I'm using it.
Welcome to the world of WinCE/PPC/Windows Mobile/Windows Mobile Smartphone/WM6!
C.
Your home screen plugin can affect your memory usage as well.
I had the same problem with mine which actually led me to return it. It was actually for several reasons, but particularly I felt like I was sitting in front of an old 386 backtracking my steps making sure I don't run out of memory like in Windows 3.1.
For one, I couldn't install the software I wanted to install on it even after registry tweaks and unlocks. The memory leak got a lot worse once I upgraded to WM6. Most of the time after multi-tasking for a bit, my memory stayed around 10MB with ONE application running. If I surfed the internet for 5-10, it usually made the drain even worse by a couple more MB and I had to reboot.
What actually broke the camel's back was when I went to send an MMS to someone and the file was at 356K. No big deal, it gave me the option to resize. Yeah. The resize neverworked the way it was supposed to. It didn't matter how low I picked the options. I picked 160 X XXX with extremely low quality and it would come up with a message telling me "Your message is 356K so it cannot be sent." and plop me right out of the message and I would have to go dig for it on my card again! (Still couldn't resize it though)
I'm very good at managing memory and getting around bugs, but that was just a little too much for a cell phone. Don't get me wrong. I love the phone! I HATE the software/OS! Would've been the perfect phone had it not been for the leaks, even if I couldn't install the software I wanted to!
Wow. I'm not going mad!
They are exactly the same issues as I am having.
maruichan what was the problem like with WM5?

Does it help to stop the memory leaking??
Is it better than oxios?
I don't even look at the free memory- my MDA Mail never slows down or crashes no matter how small the memory gets. I used to constantly check the memory on other devices but for Smartphone it does not seem to matter as much.
When you get a 'problem' with lack of memory it is a problem, otherwise just ignore it...
I am running CRCs r13.3 WM 6.1 5.2.20270
It has been working good for many months.
Now the phone seems to run out of memory.
When typing text the display will not update until I slide the phone closed and open it again.
After a while when I go to open another app the phone runs really slow trying to open the app.
After that I have to power it off or hit the reset button.
This will haven many times in one day. I never had the problem before.
Is there a dir or file on the phone that can be purged
I'd like to avoid the hard rest or reflash of the phone.
Purge your SMS then... check your temps check if you have files in the my documents folders... etc etc.
I did a good clean up it has storage 14MB and program 18MB free.
now the app(pocket rar) i am in is running like very slow,
the problem will randomly happen to any program, that will run slow, if i minimize it other things work ok.
now in the rar archive it takes 5 sec to highlight a new file in the list.(any program can act like this)
I can minimize it and scroll though the phone menus at full speed,
maximize the rar app and its slow.
It's like a ram management setting is off?
I was wondering if anyone else has seen any of these 2 issues with their tilt 2. One of them is a problem, the other may just be normal.
1. Text messaging - Text messaging, as i've learned to deal with on all the winmo phones i've owned is sluggish. But this particular problem I haven't seen before. The problem is when I close out a text message and the screen goes back to the inbox. The screen freezes for a few seconds (sometimes longer than others) before I can do anything else. It's really annoying. I have attached screenshots of this. I know it's frozen because the top of the screen has not redrawn, as you can see in the screenshot.
2. It seems that there must be a memory leak somewhere as my memory usage keeps increasing, yet no programs are open or running. I have attached a screen shot of the task manager as well. As you can see it's at 86% and nothing is open.
If you have experienced this and know of a way to fix either of these, please share. By the way, i'm using a stock ROM. Thanks everyone for your help.
Normally the stock ROM´s are full of crappy apps installed by the cell providers.
Normally I reflash inmediately to a cooked ROM from the great Chefs we have here at XDA!
Those ROM¨s nomrally perform better, of course it affects the apps installed by you at the end
Has anybody experienced the text messaging issue in any of the cooked ROMS?
maybe

i have an at&t branded tp2 and i am running an older leo from ngrz28 (thanks by the way) and yes i stay between 59% lowest i've ever seen and 84% with nothing open. i is probably cuz the good cooks from xda shoved an elephant of a rom (really made for snapdragon prosseser with twice the speed) into the tp2 (minus all the bloatware and other crud). oh well do a lot of reading and try a few different roms to find the right one for you. good luck bro.
Thanks for the replies!
Well, it looks like I may have found a solution to both of my problems. I figured out how to get rid of the text messaging issue...for the most part. I figured out that if I leave text messaging running, once all my conversations are opened once, the lag isn't there when I close out a conversation. This lag happened to me constantly because I have my phone set to close programs completely when I tap the "X" (as opposed to minimizing...I do it so I don't end up with 10 different programs running and crashing my phone). I figured out that if I just minimize text messaging and never close it out, the lag isn't there. Must be a caching thing or something with the sms conversations.
As far as the memory issue goes I gave spb mobile shell a shot and installed the trial version. So far my memory usage has stayed at about 69%. Looks like tf3d is a memory hog.
Anyways, thanks for the replies and hopefully this information helps someone.

Memory usage / leaks depend a lot on your ROM built
I found out the same for SMS. However opening / closing a contact in the contact list takes even longer than the SMS issue and for this I havent found any solution yet
Try disabling XT9 and all the other Xt9 and predictive word settings.
This worked for me when Landscape mode and typing emails..
Hi All,
Using official htc sea wm 6.5
1
=================
Anyone encountered this so called memory leak before??
Try this:
Lock screen by going Start (honeycomb) then lock
I noticed if i lock the screen memory uses up ALOT whole faster... within half a day it hits to 78% used... When incoming calls, screen does not show, but phone vibrates, i press the answer and phone picks up ok... other functions like sms and emails works ok, but alot slower too.
2
==============
I'm also using a mp3 ringtone though.. not such if this caused it, i have actually shorten and compressed the file already, was 7mb, drop to 3mb to 1.8mb now to 1mb...
I noticed when calls comes in, the screen does not lag that much (earlier issue does not happen in this assumption)...
3
==============
Camera application if activated in my pocket (Mis-press, i current assume so..) for unknown amount of time, i notice it and close it.. applications fail to launch properly...
Bottom menus (the phone(left), camera(right) on home screen etc) all dont work anymore.. it jus does not display out properly..
Top menus (close button etc) also does not display properly.. say i press start button (top right on home screen), the top menus bar changes to light blue, but honeycomb on main windows does not come out. No close button on top right either, but i can still close it (looks like not rendered properly of sorts)
TouchFlo3d works still though... i can rotate around phone, contact etc etc
4
==============
Memory uses up alot faster... after i soft reset the phone.. memory hovers at 50%, within an hour will go up to 61% odd.. but stabilizes... phone can be used ok..
5
==============
There are occasional random crashing of god knows what.. sometimes during sms i notice theres a popup of errors in some service of sorts... notice happens during sending sms mostly...
6
==============
Screen auto changes between landscape and portrait mode, sometimes it auto recovers, else, i need to slide out keyboard for awhile, wait for it to stablise, then close keyboard. Not sure if this is the result of taking out from the lather pouch??
Anyone noticed or encountered all these before?? HELP!! ; ;
Program installed:
==============
Google Maps (Update)
Batti
Carmin Mobile XT
Windows Live (Update)
NoPushInternet
MarketPlace
Youtube (Update)
WorldMate Live Installer
WorldMate Live
SKTools
MySoftReset
All programs have been there more or less for a few months already... The programs indicated with (update) means i updated further from default.
Is this a software thingy probably that a hard reset could solve it, or this is more like a thingy that needs to go into service center??
1. That sounds normal. I was using the official HTC WinMo 6.5 ROM a while back and I remembered that the RAM usage stabilized at around 75%. This is regardless whether you use the lockscreen or not.
2. Don't know what you mean...
3. Sounds like a one-off thing. Can you replicate the problem consistently?
4. This is normal. Goes for all WinMo devices.
5. Sounds like an issue with your carrier's network.
6. My best guess is that the magnet on the pouch is affecting the screen rotation.

Noticed if i use a big file, when calls/sms comes in, phone will "lag" and vibrate with no display of incoming call...if you press call(pickup) button, it ok ok..

I use a 1MB mp3 file. Works fine for me. But I can see that it makes sense for there to be a lag if a large file was used. Lesson here is: try to use small sound files for performance!

Hi, I've just moved from android to WP7.5 mango but I'm a little disappointed by the lack of apps that can truly multitask, especially messenger apps.
Yea they all "work" fine but after moving from a high end android to a high end WP7 I'm surprised that even though the app can alert you of notifications through push, when you click on the appropriate app it has to almost open up/boot up from new, unlike in android where the program is constantly running in the background and can be summoned almost instantly without the lag of resuming from a deep sleep.
I've checked in settings under "background tasks" and none of the messenger apps appear there which makes me wonder if they are truly multitasking (which I'm pretty sure they are not) as this was one of the supposed key features of the mango update.
Does anyone know if this is going to be the way it will always be or is this something that is going to improve with time, so we can switch between apps at will without the app ever closing or hibernating?
Also, something else I've noticed, push notifications will not start until the first time the messenger app (in this instance Kik) is started up for the first time since boot. Unlike in android I guess a background process started running from when the phone boots so that even though the app hasn't actually been opened yet it will still alert you of anything new.
Skype is rumored to be floating about withi MS... possible end of Feb release? Would guess app will take advantage of toast, push, etc. if not, then as you've discovered with existing IM's, less than ideal experience.
Cheers
if you jailbreak your phone, there is a registry edit that will make every app work with the multitasking regardless if it supports mango or not. I believe it is the dehydration hack to 0, something like that.

Messengers like Whatsapp and Kik use push notifications. That's why they don't appear under Background tasks as these are scheduled tasks that are executed periodically. And I personally rather wait that extra 2 or 3 seconds for an app to load instead of having it wasting precious battery life and RAM. Especially the latter sucks since it causes instability and lags.

That isn't actually background processing. It just stays in memory so exectution can immediately resume without reloading the app and data.
For many things, this is actually desired behavior. Imagine playing some arcade style game. Switch to a different app for a few minutes. Return to the game only to find that it is over. And for other apps that don't change the display without the user entering information, there is no point for CPU consumption until it is back to the foregroung.
I have the setting applied and verified with Angry Birds that it pauses once in the background, but immediately resumes once you return.

I can see where you're coming from now, yea, I suppose I too would prefer to wait a few extra seconds than have it drain battery. Just didn't realise such a simple app like kik/whatsapp would use so much resourses to cause a serious effect.
Oh well
Also, as mentioned above, I don't seem to receive notifications via the messenger apps until I open it for the first time since the phone boots.
on android the power consumption of whatsapp in background is so low, that it almost can't be messured at all.
It is quite annoying that you have to wait for reloading everytime you get a message pushed.
i have tried not to use whatsapp and google talk on my galaxy s for a while and used wp7 apps instead. but it didn't last long. it's simply to slow, when you are used to android (4).
The load time of WhatsApp doesn't bother me.
The big problem is that I want to use WhatsApp instead of text messages, but because push notifications usually arrive very late (usually 15 minutes late, sometimes more), I can't rely on it instead of text messages.
EDIT: I decided to bite the bullet, and did a hard reset to my phone. Now push notifications are working properly. Yay!

But why? Why should the push notifications take so long compared to android devices? Surely they both use a similar process to check and receive. I've gotten so used to apps running perfectly behind the scenes that suddenly not having it almost makes the phone unusable
Having serious second thoughts about WP7 now.

Actually, I felt in same way as you do now, when I moved to WP7. I had an iPhone which works like Android (front ending at least). Instant resume. So I wanted to die everytime I had to open Kik or just open a toast notification. WHY RELOADING THE APP?
Now I got used. I really think MS is going to change this in WP8 (6 months from now?), and really love the OS. I hate those icons scattered all around my screen, and tiles are perfect at my personal taste.
And Push Notifications works just perfect for me. Me and my brother are in same group conversation at Kik. When someone sends a message, we receive together. Actually, I receive first. One second or less first.. Same for WhatsApp.
And Push Notifications from WP7 are much more solid than Android; MS use a system pretty much alike Apple's. If the Push Notifications are not working in some app, you can put the blame on the developer or maybe your carrier. Like Facebook app there is a 15 minutes delay indeed, but this is how the notifications are meant to be.
I had an Android and I remember the freaking lag. Reseting it all the time, worrying about custom ROM, ASOP ROM, updates that was not coming to me, infected apps, and I wouldnt change the app loading for this again.
Relax and enjoy your new phone.. You have much less to worry about now.
From what you say I'm understanding that you go and open the app each time you get a new message, or you tap the notification so the app opens from scratch.
The app is actually hibernating if you dont close it (dont know the correct term).
-Open the app and go to a conversation.
-Hit the windows key to go the main view
-Press and hold the "back" button, move to the left and the app will be right there, select it and you'll get your instant resume.
Push notifications works fine for me, WhatsApp at least.
Just confirming what Imsparta said. Any Mango app will let you instant resume. Follow these very simple rules:
A.) When exiting any app you may want to go back to, exit with the Start Button (Windows button) NOT the back button.
B.) When seeing a push notification or toast, DO NOT tap on the app OR notification.
C.) Instead, hold down your back button until your app cards appear, then select the app you wish to return to.
The app will resume instantly with little to no load time at all and you can jump back in and continue where you left off.
Happy hunting.

Yes this is all true and I am aware of the instant resume feature in mango, BUT:
Although a toast and/or notification appears at the top of the screen or on the app icon it still has not updated the message list within the actual app, so if you "instant resume" it still has to connect to the app server to retrieve an updated list of messages received which can take up to 10-15 seconds and can be quite painful if I'm in a 2g coverage area.
So in lamens: I'll see a notification at the top of my screen which also displays part of the message I've just received, and the app icon will have a notification symbol, but when I resume KIK it shows an outdated conversation until it "syncs" with the server.
....kinda sucks.
Don't get me wrong though I love WP7, just not this little crease.
Also someone mentioned windows 8, will this be coming to wp7 users or is that meant more for tablets/PCs?
