Bill, I had a similar problem with my wifes XDA II when I loaded Tomtom software onto it. I did the following and it resolved the problem for me, so you may want to give it a try (assuming you still have the problem).
Tap on Start (on the desktop screen)
Select Settings
Select the system tab at the bottom of the screen
Tap on the memory icon
Select the Running Programs tab
This opens up a window which shows you all the programs which are currently running on your PPC
Select STOP ALL from the options available
This will close all programs running on the system and free up your memory resource, so now go back to the desk top view.
Then start your Tomtom program up again as you would do normally and see if it freezes on you this time.
IMPORTANT ADVISE - You must close Tomtom down from the options within the program which, on my system is a large red EXIT APPLICATION icon found in the Navigator Menu.
Hope this works for you as well as it did for me.
Good luck

8) Go to the windows startup folder and delete connections.exe.
That will free up a lot of resources

whats this do
connections.exe.
Other than connections.exe..
Hey everyone,
I just received my XDA IIs from Hong Kong 3 days ago. Since then, the PDA portion is working great. But the phone keeps locking up. I cannot hear caller and they cannot hear me. I have been soft resetting at least 2 x a day...and missing calls..
is there anything else that we should delete?
Thanks!

There is an inherent problem with the audio on this particular model (Blue Angel)
The problem seems to escalate if you use the Bluetooth Audio.
I experience the problem 2-3 times a week, even with the connections.exe removed from the Windows/Startup Folder.
Hopefully a new release of the Radio/Firmware will cure the problem.

Touch Pro 2 ring delay

Hi!
Has the Touch Pro 2 got the same ring delay as the old Touch Pro used to? And GPS Lag?
Thanks a lot!!
Easy: No & No!
I was very frustrated with the Fuze on this issue. Now I was stressing it a bit: 2500 Contacts, many with individual ringtones, but it drovve me nuts and frankly often led me to miss calls.
My Tilt 2 has no such problem.
I just came home from a road trip where I used my GPS for the first time. Starting Google Maps and then telling it to use the GPS. While moving at 50mph in a car it went from zero to Hero in under 30 seconds. When I was standing outside and initialized it - 5 seconds.
The thing about the Tilt @ for Fuze owners is that despite having the same hardware, it's loads faster and more capable. Whether that's just the effects of WM6.5, or that HTC actually spent some time to optimize their hardware and TouchFlo I can't say. But I can say you won't belive that these phones have the same Processor and Clock and Memory units!
BTW, it is even faster and more stable once you eliminate the AT&T Crapware. I suggest you do so before doing ANYTHING else, and then build your phone's data and programs up the way you like it!
Enjoy!

TP2 slowdown - filesys.exe and compaction issues

My touch pro2 usually works great, but from time to time becomes agonzingly slow loading programs or doing anything. This can last for quite a few minutes and means if I want to quickly use my phone for something, it takes ages or I just give up and try later when all is back to normal.
Task manager showed me when this happened the filesys.exe process was running at 30-50%. Googling this lead me to all the many pages about the compaction process on WM5+ devices. However these almost all relate to dell axims, and no one seems to be having problems with the touch pro 2.
I have searched the rhodium forum on here and can find no mention of this problem - are other TP2 users just not having this problem?
I am running pocket informant 9 and wonder if all the smaller memory writes it does when i'm using it make this problem appear more often. Am also using SPB pocket plus.
Any ideas? There is loads of free memory on the phone.

Same Here
It makes the phone extremely frustrating to use. I have found that the official TP2 6.5 ROM is woeful with it, while a Windows Mobile Power User ROM that I am running is acceptable so far.
Nice device, pity about the OS
Well, I can't see any reason why it can't be configured so any necessary compacting gets done at night when i'm not using the phone. A similar cab file was made for the dell on WM5, so i'm not sure if such a tweak exists for wm6.

Serious issues.

Hi,
So i have some serious issues with my touch pro 2 and i wanted to know if this is ''normal'' or if i should contact HTC.
I first had an Iphone 3G but i wanted a physical keyboard so i brought the touch pro 2, the first few months i just had a few issues but now it's getting really bad let me list them:
1. Random calls, this is the worst one it keeps calling the last person that calls me first i tought it was the headset because it only calls people when the headset is plugged in. Today i jammed the headset button but it keeps calling the last person that called me randomly, since 1 week it also does this without the headset connected even when the phone is just sitting on the table.
2. Keylock, i don't know if i say it right but it is when you lock your phone so you can put it in your pocket and it won't do stuff. It DOESN'T work if i lock it (i go to start press lock and than turn the screen off) it still keeps doing stuff and calling random persons. Also sometimes i can turn the volume down and up and sometimes i can't.
3. Messages, When i send a message after i pressed send 50% of the message still keeps inside the message screen (just looks like i typed a new message)
4. Media player, it doesn't work in any way, shape or form. First it work ''fine'' but now i can't get my music in it i tried multiple ways but it won't work. The worst thing is i connected it to my pc transferd some music and the freaking thing copied ALL my audio from my pc to the phone (i make movies so i have 1000's of sound effects) and those are ALL in my media player exept my music.
5. Random things to start, when i'm doing stuff in opera suddently my text inbox launches or my email for no reason.
6. The on/off/lock switch, it is waaaayyyy to responive sometimes it just turn the device on in my pocket or turns it off.
7. Digital keyboard, i can switch it to 3 different types of keyboards but it's just random if i want to switch it i just tick the button really fast and sometimes the menu will pop-up sometimes it won't. And when i selected the right keyboard it sometimes decides to switch backagain or to some other keyboard.
8. WI-FI, sometimes it will just turn on the wi-fi for no reason, when i go to settings and check if it's on it sais it isn't but it still tries to connect to a hotspot.
9. RAM memory, it's always around 80% with NO applications running when i keep this thing on for longer than 24 hours i can't play video's anymore because it doesn't has enough RAM so i have to turn it off and on again.
10. Album, for some reason it's just giving random error's while it's still working.
This are only my major problems there are alot more i've got, i really get irritated by this phone sometimes i just feel like smashing it. Especialy when it keeps calling random people non-stop for 1 minute long.
When i wanted a new phone i saw that the touch pro 2 has windows on it, now i know windows has some problems so i hoped windows mobile will just work fine but as i can see it won't.
Here is some phone info:
HTC touch pro 2
4 months old
firmware 6.5
didn't mess it up or anything everything is still original.
restored it to factory settings 3 times but it won't help with solving the problems.
Is this just common for this phone or is it just my phone? Because if it is common i will contact HTC that i want my money back because i didn't payed 700 Euro's for a phone that isn't working properly.
Never had a problem like those....
Sounds like a bad handset.
Ditto, sounds like a defective device. Time to cash in on that warranty! Nonetheless, here's a couple of comments corresponding to your issues.
1 & 2
Sounds like your device is registering phantom presses of the call start button.
3
Don't know...
4
Just use drag and drop to your microSD. Don't depend on WMP to sync.
5
Random things shouldn't happen. If it happens even after a hard reset, it's definitely defective.
6
Never heard of the standby button on the TP2 being over-sensitive.
7
To bring up the keyboard selector, you need to tap the tiny triangle on the right of the keyboard icon. Alternatively, you can long-tap on the keyboard icon.
8
Definitely weird.

WinMo 6.5 is a RAM hog. But nonetheless, even at 80% RAM usage, you should still have about 46MB free. That really shouldn't stop you from doing anything. Many ppl use a RAM cleaner. My personal practice is to just do a soft-reset every 2 days.

What errors are you seeing?

I think it depends on your perception of lag. I feel my device slows down momentarily sometimes when navigating through long lists and opening some applications as you mention. I thought at first it might be a problem with my device but have since had it replaced (because of dust under the screen not this) but I still notice it the same. I think I just expect everything to be instantaneous given the 1Ghz processor inside but to be honest it doesn't bother me and I imagine most people don't notice any slow down at all.
As an example, just now selecting the option to add the HTC Clock widget to the home screen there is a noticeable pause before it comes up with the options to choose widget style.
I would be interested in how quickly the Photos application loads for people though, it takes a good few seconds for me (around 4 seconds sometimes) to load the summary view with 'camera shots', 'all photos' links etc. I've replaced the memory card to an 8gb Sandisk Ultra as I thought the read speed of the original could be the cause, but it still takes the same time.
None of these things effect the usability of the device in practical terms though.
Market / Weather are possibly lagging due to Network speed rather than phone speed. They have to DL data to the phone.
Others like Email may be refreshing when opened causing lag.
My messages app (Handcent currently) only lags when I have many hundreds of messages saved. But it is noticably better than chomp at handling the same volume of messages.
I find the phone lags when it is installing stuff. And by lag I mean delayed responses to my input.
I also find that certain apps can load up and then cause the phone to stutter. I haven't found out exactly which apps but it's always solved with a soft reset - just turning the phone off and on. Either that or it's forcing the phone to store too much on the SD card.
Maybe I'll find the offending app when I have more time.
