Phone super hot!!!! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Is there a reason that when i charge my phone its get so hot that it can actually burn me. Is it defective or something else?

Everybody's definition of hot is different. If your serious about it getting that hot enough to burn you then take it back along with the charger and give the store clerk a demo, then ask for a replacement. It shouldn't get that hot. Maybe kinda warm.

I think it's very strange the phone getting so hot. If it's possible try to replace it.

OK thanks. Its like during the middle of the night the phone wakes me up because it be so hot so I just unplug it and take the battery out.

You sleep with a "hot" phone? Creepy!

Do you plug it in and then put it in your pocket before bed ?
More than a little strange.

my phone gets super hot...only when charging it while its tethered to my laptop via wifi...to combat this dramatic increase in temperture, i place it in front of a fan, which keeps it cool...ohh so cool...

When you call to have it replaced, tell them that it is too hot to hold. They will consider that a safety issue and be more likely to replace it.

Overheat shutdown lock? Defective?

When at the Chicago Blackhawks rally (outside, hot day), my phone apparently shutdown while in my pocket. I reached for it to take a photo, and realized that I could not turn the phone on. I immediately figured that I had activated some resource hogging app while in my pocket, but it seemed unlikely as the battery was mostly full last time I had looked at it. After fiddling with it for a bit, I decided to take the battery out and try to turn it back on. This worked, and the phone rebooted with almost 70% battery life left.
I ended up giving this phone to my wife as she wanted a white phone, and I went and got a red version. Yesterday, the same thing happened to the white phone again. The phone was in my wifes (black) purse, in the sun, while she was in the pool. She was unable to charge the phone or turn it on until she removed the battery.
I can only think that heat is a factor here. Has anyone else had this issue? Is this a "feature" to keep the phone from over heating? Possibly a defect? Unlike an iPhone, the MyTouch doesn't say anything about it shutting down from overheating when it reboots.
Also, I've never had a phone shut down from these relatively mild heat conditions. If it is heat related, this phone is rather temperamental in regards to over heating...
Thanks,
Danny
I has to be a defective device i work in the sun all day few days in over 95 degrees and listen to music at the same time. Never had that problem

Not Charging?

Ok so not sure what to do, mostly due to lack of time and patience..
I let my phone die today and when i plugged it in it had the orange led..i let it sit and it changed to an orange and green flash in the led..
i turned it on and the phone was powering but not holding a charge..
How long was it dead before attempting recharge? Did you attempt to use it with this low level of charge before recharging? You may have killed the battery.
it was dead for like 30 sec..the charging light doesnt glow anymore..it just flashes sometimes..
It sounds like the phone allowed the battery to discharge too far, which is a bit disconcerting. Do you have another battery to try?

My wifes phones from what it sounds like did the same thing. only the orange led light shows up while plugged in. Took it to the store and they did not have a phone to replace it with, so are ordering a new phone which will not get here till Thursday. The sales rep let my wife borrow her personal spare phone which is a feature phone...They said it wont effect the data plan... i am nervous and dont trust that we will be able to get the data plan back on the new DINC2 when it gets here on Thursday.
This situation sucks...
I personally have had that weird flashing aswell... although under different circumstances. I was downloading some torrent and saw that the battery was getting low so I plugged it in to my car and about 10min later it started doing that flashing. When I grabbed it the back felt incredibly hot so I disconnected it and turned the phone off. Then I removed the battery and it felt like it was going to burn my hand so I set it down and let it cool off. Afterwards, I put it back in and it was ok again.

It's possible you were putting some very high demands on the device, and did not lighten the load when you plugged it in, asking it to charge an already warm battery. Then again, something in the battery could have shorted.

Phone/Battery Not Turning On

I need some help.
I was charging my Epic4G Touch last night - it was around 40 percent, and I was going to spend all day out, so I wanted it fully charged. The phone gets a little warm when it charges, but that's normal. Well, I feel asleep, and I guess I was tired enough to put the phone underneath both of my pillows, aaaaand a fuzzy blanket.
I woke up this morning to the phone practically on fire - it was insanely hot, and it wouldn't turn on. I disassembled the phone - took the case off, took off the battery cover, and took the flaming hot battery out. After letting it cool down, I tried putting it back together, and the phone won't turn on. I tried plugging the phone into it's charger again, and the blue light flashes, the screen flashes on and shows the empty battery icon, then almost instantly turns off. The light itself is really dull.
I don't know what to do. Has anyone else had this problem, or have any ideas? I'm going to try again in a few minutes, but I'm in New York right now (I live in CT, USA), so I can't visit the Sprint Store with the owner of the line.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like the charger could have eaten your phone. I bought an E4GT about a year ago and the first thing I did was ditch the charger. Weird charge times and rendered the phone unusable while it was charging (would act erratically, charging resyults were inconsistent,
For me, this was corrected when I picked up another charger with the correct specs (5v, .7 amps). I stayed with OEM, but blew past the sprint store to avoid the ridiculous charges. Here are two that I picked up from Amazon:
OEM Travel charger (use at home):
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Trave...4786445&sr=1-1&keywords=epic+4g+touch+charger
OEM Car charger:
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Trave...4786445&sr=1-1&keywords=epic+4g+touch+charger
They are very reasonably priced and I've not had any other issues.
In your case, however, you may want to take phone and charger into Sprint, as it sounds as if your phone may have suffered damage. If you get a new phone (via warranty or insurance), I would recommend getting one or both of the above chargers. Together, these two items are still much cheaper than one bought from Sprint.

I had a similar incident where my power was out & charged with my phone in my car (bad move but wasn't thinking in all the frenzy) and the same thing happened to my phone.. I pulled the battery let my phone sit for a while (a few hours) to cool off and it was back to normal.. You might want to try that, well give it a little longer.. I may have been lucky though

Well, after a day, things seem to be normal. I had to leave the battery out and alone for about 3 hours, but after, when I plugged it in, it started to charge again. So far, everything seems normal, including the battery life, so that's good.
Thanks to both of you. I don't think it was the charger, but picking up another charger is never a bad thing.
Check and see if the sides of your battery are bulged out at all. You should not be able to spin it on a table top for example. If it is at all, you should replace the battery.
Just make sure you spin it clockwise, if you spin it counterclockwise Steve Jobs well poltergeist out of your closet and eat your Epic touch.
He's still out for revenge.

[Q] phone got SUPER hot?

So this morning when my alarms went off, me being myself slept thought them and they kept on going as usual.
The only unusual thing about it was my phone got ULTRA hot. The whole front of it, battery and the back where the processor is.
It got so hot I panicked and pulled the battery and let it cool.
What could cause this? There was no major battery drain for the alarms going off for an hour.
Its still working as normal. Just freaked me out a bit.
Your alarm was going off for an hour? Dang. Hopefully you werent late for anything. lol
The battery gets hot when its constantly doing something and the screen is on. Its normal. I mean, it COULD potentially ruin your phone over time. But electronics get hot. Theres not much you can do about it. I sometimes download files that take 3 to 5 minutes and while its doing that, my phone heats up how you described yours.

Phone always gets really hot when processor is being heavily used especially gaming.
Unless you see some sort of lag while it's hot I wouldn't really worry too much.
I also thought it was a problem, but when you know to hold in your hand without burning it's alright

Wet Panda

I got my charging port a little wet today. No submersion, just got splashed. Ever since then, for the last few hours the phone has been shutting down randomly. Once it went to the factory flash mode which was interesting. Giant blue circle with a "waiting for connection, do not power down during flashing" warning. That was interesting. The phone intermittently will try to take a charge but will shut down after about 10-15 min of charging.
I'm sure it'll be fine once it fully dries out overnight but still, a word of warning to those who get theirs wet. I never had this issue with my note 8 which I would weekly take in the pool for my daughter's swim lessons which meant for about 30 minutes it was fully underwater 2-3 ft. With this just taking a splash and misbehaving this badly, I don't even want to try that.
I put mine in the filled up sink just to scare my wife, and no issues FWIW...

That's very odd. How long after the port got wet did you plug in a charger? It sounds like something happened when charging possibly. Getting this phone wet should not cause any issues like you described. Unless maybe the port was still a little wet when it was plugged in.

A couple hours but it was doing it before I plugged in a charger (and after). It's been fine since last night though.
Was it fresh water or salt water?

Watch TV while taking a shower and no problems. Aaahh... Taking a shower and watching TV, so nice
Mine got water splashed too, at first I thought it was nothing because it kept working perfectly, but then I tried to plug in my headphones (with the usb-c/3.5mm adaptor) and they were not working properly. They function, but it's like if certains sounds were not capture by it, like voices. Is it possible that it's just still a little wet, and I need to dry the port out somehow? Or is it that maybe one of the pins on the USB port are now broken and I need to replace it?
