Dumping ROM from Device - P3300, MDA Compact III ROM Development

Hello Everybody,
at first I have to say - my eglish isnt very well, so please dont laugh^^
I have "build" a ROM, but not in the normal way. - I installed everything and configured it at my device.
Now I want to make a dump of the rom - btw of my system, so I get a .nbh file and can Import it later on my device.
I have searched for this function very, very long. I often saw "Kitchen...Image Dump", but after 2 introductions at least i realized, that its the "extraction" of a existing ".nbh"-file (or not?)
I am sitting since 3 am on the configuration etc. and searched only for this function to dump a .nbh fron my >XDA-Orbit< (Artemis/P3300) with Mobile 6.1< at least 4 hours.
Im not a person, that asks often; I hate it, but I stuck here for a long time.
Thanks very much
Greetings
Hoamer

ROM 4.01.12 on T-Mobile USA

Is anyone using the ROM version 4.01.12 on a T-Mobile XDA I in USA?
How has it worked out?
I want to cook a ROM from Stefan's great kitchen, using this ROM. The last one I cooked used ROM 4.01.16 (Official T-Mobilee version) but this ROM is really buggy.
define "buggy", cuase I want to cook a rom, and am not sure if I want 4.01.16 or not. Thanks.
1. With the phone turned on but PDA powered off, the PDA powers itself on every few minutes.
2. SD cards occasionally shows no files using Total Commander. When I pop the SD card into my PC's card reader, files are there?
There are a few other bugs that I can't put my finger on at the moment. If I could solve #1, the rest wouldn't bother me.
I should say that the ROM kitchens are great.

I have the same problem and it really pisses me off. My battery is always dead because it just randomly turns on. I set my XDA to turn off after 1 minute of inactivity....this helped a little.
I'm also looking to see if 4.01.12 works on T-Mobile in the USA. I really want 4.01.12 for the wmodem application. I asked Stefan, I'll let you know what he says(unless he posts here first).
Only one thing I liked: The ROM made my XDA super fast. When I view web pages with lots of graphics, it moves smoothly now. I'm not exactly sure why this is, but it's deffinately faster.
The 4.01.12 should work without any problem in the US.
Just don´t touch the radio Stack.
Easiest is cooking your own rom.
Best way is cooking without any Autoconfig, because it includes only Conifig for european providers...
Stefan
Thanks for your help, I'll download it now and test it out.
I can verify that the 4.01.12 works great on T-Mobile USA!
I'm typing this from my cell phones connection. I finally got wmodem to work after 2 weeks. Thanks for all your help Stefan.
Thanks Iron & Stefan.
I'm going to cook myself a ROM using 4.01.12 in Stefan's great kitchen.
Iron, has this ROM fixed the random turn on problem?
Have you noticed any drawbacks or problems?
Joe
So far I havn't noticed any random turn ons or any problems. Seems to be a good rom! 8)
I can't load this ROM. Everytime I try to flash using the exe file I cooked, I get the following error message:
ERROR 011: EXECUTE REMOTE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM ERROR
Cannot execute the remote communicatin program. Please make sure the the USB/Serial cable is properly connected.
Any idea how to work around this so I can load this ROM?
I got the same error. It must be a problem with 4.01.16 or something. You need to flash it to a SD card. Ask me if you need help flashing.
Iron
Can I just copy the flashed exe file to an SD card, then use
bootloader on my XDA to execute the ROM file?
No, you can't. Just use XDAtools to make the required bootable SD. No, it doesn't matter what size, as long as it's 32mb+, and I feel as though I should tell you that you will loose all data off the card when you use the tools to put the image on. There is a certain format, and a header string, and bootloader compatability, and yada, yada, yada... XDATools OSImage takes care of all that.
I just hosed my MDA I with a 4.1.16 ROM by installing KSE truefax into the image. Had to use SD method to reload the same ROM recooked without KSE, and it works beautifuly!!!!! This [email protected] vibrate is the only thing really pissing me off right now, but I haven't found any known probs, except broken pins/burnt motors. We'll see when I take it apart to strip/paing the case.....Sorry, getting off thread subj.
Good Luck!

I think your asking this so you don't need to download it again. As he already said the answer is no, but you do not need to download it again.
Download OS Image tool as he said, and there will be an English Folder. Extract the .exe that you downloaded and there will also be an English folder. Copy the .NK(I think its .NK) file from the ROM English folder to the OS Image tool English folder. Right click on the file and click Burn to SD card, and you will be set to go.

WHO GIVES A RAM?! (OR ROM!)

Hi there folks, being a newbie I am sure that I will get some abuse but nevertheless here goes.....
1) What is it with all of this ROM upgrading I keep reading about? I realise there are different versions but does it really make that much of a difference? If so, what version is the most up to date?
2) Does anyone know anything about TomTom? I have been given version 5 (Navigator I think), how does this differ from Mobile 5 version & why does my version not start up automatically when I insert the SD card into my PDA?
If any peeps can give me a bit of an insight in to these queries, I would be most grateful.
By the way this site is really cool, shame I have only just found it, time to catch up........

Firkin, if your sd card has a directory called "2577" and it contains the correct files then it should start automatically.
!) ROM upgrading .... its basicly all about fixing BUGS, improving performance etc ...etc... same as with a computer, your better off with newer files/programs than older ones (Well most of the time anyway)
Im an XDA 2i user and right now we are all screaming for a new ROM as there are a few problems with the current one.
2)TomTom 5 is one of, if not the best GPS road navigation systems about and will be similar for the Mobile version but i would think a little better.
I didnt know you could start a program up from just inserting the SD card but i might just look into that now lol.
Its ot really normal for a program to start up when you insert the SD card otherwise it might be slightly annoying, well i think so anyway.
Thanks for the info peeps.
As for the SD card/ Tom Tom application, just to clarify, the program doesn't start each time you pop the card in. What it actually does is install the program into your PDA device instead of you having to install the program via your PC & then activating it through your USB/serial link.
Thanks again & keep up the good work!
It seems after reading many posts about upgrading ROM's etc that it is a complete waste of time, as soon as you install the upgrade the users have a load of problems, with devices crashing/freezing/ bluetooth not working etc.... so what is the point. Surely you are better off with your original installation software than some unofficial upgrade meant for some other device.
If it ain't broke then don't fix it!!!
My tomtom card when inseted first time installs the program, each insert following this launches tomtom 5.

backing up ALL (rom + extrom)

helo, i've searched every where but i did'nt found, i want to upgrade to wm6, but before i want to make a backup of ALL (yes, all). for extrom, i think it's ok, but how to backup a rom ?
i've tried a rom dump with "romupdate" (mtty mfc application) to dump rom on my 2go sd card, but no way, this do not want my sd :/
any idea?
thanks
Why not try this
Hi bob_bipbip,
Why don't you try installing a backup utility like Spb Clone and copying all accross - then getting hold of an original copy of your ROM - then if you have any troubles, you could just reflash the ROM, then reclone the software back on with Spb Clone!! (just make sure you use a spare SD card for the new ROM to start with - you need to keep the one with the original ROM EXACTLY as it is now [if there are any programs on it! - otherwise, don't worry])
Happy Updating!!
Bird
Hello, I think that you need this:
http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=28648
Here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=19) you can download the tools.
Then you only needs to:
- Stop activesync
- Puts BA in bootloader mode
- Connect to the craddle
- Starts romupdate and select WCEUSBSH001
- and TYPE YOURSELF (don't copy&paste, it doesn't work)
-> d2s 80000000 02000000
wait until it finish
-> d2s 60000000 00300000 sd a
wait until it finish
-> d2s 70000000 01080000 sd a
wait until it finish
Once finished the three steps, take the SDCard and put it in a safe place, that is your entire device backup, and softreset your BA.
I've used a 1Gb SDCard, but it must works even with a 128mb.
To restore simply put the sdcard into your BA and put it in bootloader mode, after a few seconds SDCard flashing ask you for confirmation to starts.
I hope I have answered to your question
PS: sorry for possibly grammar and syntax errors, english isn't my best .
Cooooooollllll!
Going to try that myself, thanks kraven!
i've tried this method a long time ago, it didn't work. i'll try again soon.
did anybody here have already done this successfully ?
The Backup-Process works proply, but:
IT ONLY BACKUP THE ROM!!! NOT ALL THE OTHER STUFF (Programs, Connections, Data,..etc)!!!
Dont spend your time: you can reflash every time your ROM with the know methods, dont need this tool for them. The benefit dont works;-(
According to title
Well, on title it says "ROM dump" and this is what the thread teaches... if you mean "Entire PPC backup" u may search another thread =P

Can I flash a differnt devices ext rom to my BA

Hey ya'll, I have a simple question.
I want to know if I can flash the ext rom from another HTC device onto my BA ext rom?
I just installed the 142 Tmo Uk rom, and was curious if I can grab the ext rom off of another Tmo USA device, so I have all the right settings and stuff?
TIA!
i wouldn't think so. may be able to do it, i wouldn't attempt it. i stripped my extrom, they don't actually have anything useful in them. just horrible themes and bad software.
you however could probably extract the extended rom from another device and copy the files and manually install them. that'd be easy enough i think.
yeah, flashing a rom from another device is not such a good idea, but since you are using wm2003, you can visit -=this tutorial=- and gain another 16mb of storage space and then just copy cabs that you want to the device or maybe even build you own extrom, to be copied to the sd card and installed automatically. to find out how that is done (actually pretty easy!) just use forum search and look for "cfg.txt" and Chef_Tony. i wrote some pretty long tutorials about that.
basicly it is just making an automated install routine for your most commonly used programs, so whenever you hard reset your device, the programs YOU want are installed, not those ridiculous t-mobile customizations, their pink dialer skin and things like that.
EDIT: btw. you should never take an entire extrom of another device. you never know, if maybe some of the things installed by the extrom are dependant of the display resolution or use device specific interfaces or mess around with device specific hardware buttons or drivers, you should extract the cabs and google their names, if you are not sure, what that actually does, so you can be sure, it will work on your blueangel!
have fun with that.
and @cerjam: don't be offended, your answer is completely right, i agree, just wanted to add a few little things
Perfect answers!
So, chef_tony, your telling me that it's ok to merge my extrom and storage in wm2003se? and then copy my cabs and write a cfg.txt of my own for an sd card?
I realize that I should do all the reading, but I'm the kinda guy who needs a generalized big picture before I start ripping apart all the details, so I'm looking for **** and jane/oversimplified answers.
Thanks, guys (and gals, if you are one)

First of all you have to decide on which version you use. If you wanna use Xdandroid-method then go the way escoda recommended you.
If you wanna try something else then try my builds (requires partitioning)

Hi vatoloco, can you tell me how partitioning diamond on windows?
As far as i know you can't, but you can use Gparted, a freeware linux app.
If you haven't got linux, you can just download a live gparted cd and boot directly from this one, without changing your OS at all

OK...New to this and would love to learn and understand how to mod my phones...I have an LG eve, Iphone 3g and a HTC touch diamond and have figured out how to jailbreak the iphone...Now I know the LG eve is hopeless as far as upgrades and I am trying to figure out how to install Android on my Diamond...So far I have copied the files to a folder...
The 2 root access files are copied to my internal storage however i am not sure what to do about the Galaxy s build....Do I copy the whole folder or do I copy everything but the start up config file? I am a bit confused...Please help...Oh and will I still have Windows in the phone or does this take it out? Oh and if I have issues can I revert back to windows? Sorry for all the newbie questions...I have searched and read for like a month now and it seems so complicated...This is the first thread that seems simple enough...Please help me...Thanks so much...
Ok so I copied the files and am not sure where to find the STARTUP.TXT files..? I found 2 files in the Galaxy folder in the start up config however one of them is Black start up and other is called Diam start up ? with one do I copy? Or am I am the wrong path? I also opened the Haret.exe file on the phone and get the error:
cannot open script file/internal...etc...Please help...
Thanks
Andy
please help? I have tried everything I can think of and have been reading for like 8 hours now and still can't seem to get it to work...I download the above files and then copied the startup.txt in the other partition and when i click on the Haret.exe...nothing happens...Tried it like 20 times...When you run file wizard starts it automatically has the install.exe or something like that...should I replace it with something else? please help...I am having a hard time explaining this so if you need more info please let me know...thanks
I tried to use Android on diamond by using sometime like Eclair but unstable and slow. It takes me almost 5 minutes to boot up and gives me a crash when I use it for minutes.
Is there any way to remove the windows and just use Android instead? Thanks.
Hi, I also had issues installing Android. First I thought it was too nasty.
Finally, by mixing many instructions I got it.
I would say, for [Xd]Android with an EXT2 partition (from Linux):
1/
Start Ubuntu from a bootable CD (No need to install it) and follow the steps from Vatoloco (Thx for this video) here:
Video1
When done you can move back to windows. You should take some notes from the video to do the same.
2/
- Then you can take the Neopeek Android Installer V1.1, found on Neopeek's website:
CyanogenMod6 - Port
+extract on your pc
- Also download the Android build (for example the one here from Neopeek) called "CM6 RC3 (Nightlie Build 17-08-2010)" on the same page.
- And the "HARET-PaketV1.5" +extract on your pc
3/
- Rename the Android build you just downloaded as "androidinstall.tar.gz"
- Then copy "npkinstall" folder to your internal storage (the fat32 partition)
- In your "internal storage\npkinstall" folder, copy the android build "androidinstall.tar.gz"
- In your "internal storage\" (root) copy what is contained in "Haret-PaketV1.5"
- Copy the "startup.txt" file from your own device (found here: "internal storage\Startups" to the root : "Internal storage\"
===== You're done ====
4/ The only step remaining is to run the 2 programs:
- "Internal storage\npkinstall\install.exe"
(It doesn't take too long, if you read what is written (and readable ), you can see if it worked)
Your device will restart at the end of the installation.
- Then Run the last program:
"Internal Storage\haret.exe"
It takes longer. When Android starts it seems to be bugged but finally work if you are patient. Next restart will be a lot better.
=====================
On my side, I used Android only a few hours as it did not meet my expectations.
It works perfectly and is smooth enough. But I will perhaps use Android when we won't need to have windows also installed.
Hope it helps! I just collected some infos and put that in 1 thread.
is it reccomended to use this android http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735978 all day, always? i don't like WM so i wanna use android. but does it work fine? sms photo and internet?

hi
I use this one now for a 5 or 6 days without going back to WinMO and it still works perfect. only thing is that you have to charge twice or more a daybecause you cant see the correct battery state. last time i checked the uptime without charging was around the 8 hours. but i didnt know how long it lasted after that.
you can download it from this page
|prj||XDANDROID||2.2||AOSP||19.8.10|SYSTEM-UPDATE||
with the latest kernel initrd and rootfs
you can download these from here
xdandroid.com.
also check the above page often because it will be continues updated
They only thing that isn't working is the Camera/Video function.
Have fun with it
