any idea if i change my radio version on TP2 by installing AT&T or T-Mobile it could works the 3G on it?? i have TP2 EURO Version witch is runing on Edge Speed Network.
Its highly unlikely. The only reason i'm not gonna say a definitive no is because of the rumored world tp2. Now if its anything like the last like 3-4 HTC phones the antenna for the USA 3G bands is not installed in the device so u can do all the software u want but it won't change the fact that u won't get 3G
not gonna work, there's nothing u can do. This has been addressed many times, just search.
to bad as a good phone like tp2 does not support North American 3G
maybe i should sell it because this phone one of the best in market for now and the made it in very hight quality brand but no 3G it means no internet on it 2 bad.
NorthAmerican 3G Network on TP2 ?? ¡¡¡Wait!!!
Hi guys, you must wait for the AT&T´s Fortress aka TP2
GSM Quad-band phone capable of global roaming ( 850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
UMTS tri-band global 3G ( 850/1900/2100 MHz)

that's not really an accurate pic of AT&T's TP2. especially because of the QWERTZ keyboard. this was discussed too lol

Yeah, there is not much of a difference if you use EDGE or 3G on the phone itself. I do everything on EDGE, and i'm quite happy. The peak i got here is 20kb/s and is fast enough for my everyday needs. I can even stream youtube normally, just like my PC.
The big difference here is when you tether. On everything else, EDGE is fine.
I live in a 3G area and just switched from my xperia to the touch pro 2 and there is a huge difference depending on what browser u use. And youtube loads very slow on edge at least for me it does. 3G was much faster!
Based upon my experience with the Touch HD T8282 in the US I wouldn't recommend anyone here buy the Rhodium 100 with European 3G. I'd suggest waiting for the Rhodium 300 with the UMTS850.
EDGE Sucks, forget any streaming....period.
^agree, usa 3G is a must have for speedy internet, streaming, etc.

Omar,
If you bought yours from Mobile City Online then there is no doubt yours is the Euro version Rhodium100. The US version has not yet been released. Lift up the battery cover and the model# should be under the battery.

Im sending mines back!!! That was a deal breaker for me... they should have been upfront about it... Unless I can figure out how to put US 3G on here, I'm sending it back to Hong Kong...
Upfront??? Its all over these forums on HTC's website. I'm not sure how much more information you needed? A big red sign? I don't understand this confusion.

seriously, stop posting your sob story in any thread you find.
it's no one's fault but yours that you bought the European version that doesn't run 3G in the US. if you had done your research instead of relying only on whatever online store you purchased it from, you would have known that the Rhodium 100 doesn't have the necessary bands to support 3G here.
all that info is in this forum, all you had to do was look. so stop blaming the online merchant for not being "upfront" with you, because no one here will care. it's your fault for not researching the phone further than "ooohhhh the screen tilts and it's a 3.6 inch WVGA resolution and it has dual speakers and blah blah blah" learn from this mistake so you won't waste your money and posting space on the forum.
Just got my Touch Pro II... here's my problem, perhaps you can help...
1. Even though bluetooth is advertise in the specs, it does NOT HAVE VOICE COMMAND... you'll have to buy that software separately...
2. WILL NOT RUN ON 3G NETWORK... I could almost live with the first faux pas... but not running on 3G is a deal breaker!!! Youtube stuttered... CNN was horrible...I even downloaded SkyFire... still no help. Called HTC, he said the Taiwanesse phone was not designed for this market. He said the Rom will not accomodate this 3G network.... I'm sending the damn thing back and wait on ATT version... AM I MAKING A MISTAKE? Please answer before I box it up... Len
I am sure I read here somewhere, that the non US versions don't support 3G. You may want to read some other threads to verify yourself though.

Are you blind or just being lazy to read?? Posts of european version of TP2 is not compatible w/ AT&T 3G is all over here (it's even listed on HTC official website). Who could you blame if you are not doing research before you purchase???
did you read anything about this phone before buying it?
Can he actually read?
ok ok that was a lame one ..
but yes, you should do research about these things before buying it.
for the xperia as example they have an Xi and an Xa a for US and i for europe.

Yes, you made a mistake.......by even breathing all day today !!!
You seem the type to buy a car from the U.K and ship it to the U.S and then complain that the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car.
are you kidding me?! where have you been the past few months? its been stated multiple times in this forum that th euro version doesn't run US 3G. and why would you buy a phone without researching it first? if you knew the US 3G bands and compared them to what the euro TP2 uses, then you would have known. and its not the ROM that doesn't support it. its the hardware on the phone. people who don't read and search and do research annoy the s*** out of me.
You don't just buy a phone because it looks cool.
So you are an American then I will swap you my X1a (works with ATT 3G), including original Box, including extra 3600 extended mugen battery, and Samsung SCH-I760 for your phone.

I wrongly presumed that pretty much anybody buying a TP2 would know how bluetooth works... I really had to laugh at this one, sorry about that.
How can you think that 'bluetooth' reads 'voice command'. Bluetooth just means bluetooth, nothing more, nothing less, just bluetooth.
It's like buying a car advertised as a manual gearbox (stick shift) and then complaining "where's the twin turbo and NOS!?"

yeah, but you do not have 3G though.
if the European TP2 could run on 3G here in the states i would already have one.
people don't realize that EDGE data really isn't THAT bad. I've been using it for a couple of days just to see how slow it really is, and it's actually pretty fast. sure, it's not as fast as 3G, but it's decent. and besides, an unlocked TP2 still has Wi-Fi capability, and in most cases Wi-Fi is faster than 3G. if I had the money, I'd buy the unlocked version and save myself the stress of waiting for it to come out for ATT
EDGE is fine for US networks compared to the overcrowded WCDMA that AT&T is currently touting. They need a major upgrade at some point. Most iPhone users have been getting dropped down to EDGE speeds without realizing it since they don't ever check their bandwidth. Same thing happens with most WM users in the US. On a good day, you'll get 1.2Mbps but on a bad day you'll end up with 60kbps T_T. In any case, the US should come out of the CDMA stoneage and get on the same good networks like the rest of the world. It's funny but I get higher speed everywhere else in the world except in the US. Consistency is key.

I agree. I've had 3G on my Xperia and my Tilt and I can't say i'm dying cause on edge. With push pages it helps a lot. I know that even after having it for a while i would still buy it again and recommend it to anyone even on edge.

Words escape me.... but there had to be a first, but congratulations Lenstar, you are the first..
On a serious note.. have you tried switching to the 2100 WCDMA frequency?
Not totally sure of the options on the TP2, but i believe under the network settings there should be an option to scan for a different network.
The Taiwanese HTC web site states that the Taiwanese version of the handset is built for European and Asian 3G networks running at 900 and 2,100 MHz.
...not to mention the sorry battery life that 3g get you even if it were fast all the time i would struggle with keeping it on because ei use my tp2 all the time for work and pleasure and i would have to charge it twice a day if i used 3g

I 2nd that
I'm thinking to buy a international version of HTC Touch Pro 2 from NewEgg. I heard that HTC Touch Pro 2 doesn't AT&T 3G Data and only GPRs and EDGE available for AT&T on this phone. Since this phone is not returnable, i would like to see if anyone from here have the same experience with using HTC touch Pro 2 on AT&T 3G Network.
By the way, i see newegg sell 0 on this phone. Wondering if that's the reason why nobody is buying it?
I dont think it will get the AT&T 3G. I asked a few people and they said it wouldnt work.
Pretty much the short answer is no.
I've posted an explanation on another thread explaining why.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4727926&postcount=9
That is correct
You will not get 3G connection, and that could be good and bad.
I bought mine unlocked, unbrand and is currently using AT&T. I usually get E, and occasionally H. I heard from other people that 3G can drain your battery, and I use wi-fi which is almost as fast.
Yes wifi is as fast but if you are not in a wifi spot what are you going to do? 3G is way faster than Edge. Why buy a Eurpean one when in like a week you can get one from ATT and it works in North America on 3G. The whole point of this phone is to be able to use the 3g when needed.
As to the battery, it uses no more power than edge does. The 3g is triggered by you trying to download data. When you are done it turns itself off.
I've got the Touch Pro 2 from Verizon, and I haven't been able to get on the 3G at all; only EDGE. I briefly saw the E turn to a G; however, I haven't seen any indication what so ever that I've been able to connect with greater speeds.
Edit: Although it may be worth noting that I have the band set in my phone to be GSM(1900 + 850) + UMTS(1900 + 850).
I have using my Touch Pro2 on the 3 network in the UK. Is there anyway in tricking the 3 network in to thinking it's a TYTN II (which the networks supports)?
I think I saw a thread ages ago, but can't seem to find it.
Phone works fine, just some of the services won't work as it say the phone is not supported.
Thanks
Grimoor
Hi Everyone!
I have a T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 running WM6.1 with radio version Rhodium 4.49.25.77.
When using wi-fi, I'm only able to get 1 bar where as with my ipaq 6315 and Dell Axim I'm able to get 3 bars. I've tried different radio versions and all to no avail. Is this something that can be fixed or is it because HTC manufactures their units with wi-fi chip sets not as good as Dell or HP?
Thank you in advance for any useful information.
Giovanni
Did you turn up the wifi power under wifi setttings
Hi Drew and thank you!
Yes, that is the very first thing that I did and it did not help at all. HTC did a very great job with the GPS chip-set but for some reason the Wi-Fi chip-set is not as strong. I also have a Sprint PPC6700 and Sprint PPC6800(Mogul) all made by HTC and the Wi-Fi on these units also only gets 1 bar while my ipaq 6315 and Dell Axim both get 3 bars on the Wi-Fi meter.
