xda lls - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 General

I tried to upgrade the boot strap on my o2 xda lls
it went wrong and all it displays now on device is "Serial" at the top and "v2.07" at the bottom
is there anything i can do to fix it

the text you see is actually the bootloader mode, normally, you put the device in that state manually, since apparently, you didn't do it, i can give you the tip to carefully read the wiki about that:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardMain
that wizard will tell you how to upgrade your device, to handle the extrom, to put in bootloader, flashing with the right tool, hard resetting the right way...
it is a step by step instruction, so don't skip any steps. apparently you jumped right to the end, and made a mess

MAJOR problem loading WM6

I was in the middle of upgrading my version of WM6 and i got unplugged and now it wont resume and the phone is stuck at the loading screen that says "HTC" mobile.htc.com
what the heck do i do? it wont budge.. it wont sync with active sync, it wont resume.. i'm flipping out.
did you try get your phone in the tri color bootloader screen and then running the Hard SPL program again?
god, I'm gonna admit, I have no idea what any of that stuff is. I know the tricolor screen, I dont know what an SPL is.. a friend of mine usually sends me the upgrades for my programs and i just follow his instructions, but as i was loading the new version it got unplugged and when i tried to follow the restore options it wouldnt restore the upgrade.. so I've learned the term is bricking.
Activesync won't reconnect the phone.. it tries, then doesnt recognize the device.. so even if i try to downgrade to 1.04, it wont work because it wont sync with the damn computer.. I hard reset, i soft reset, i got it to the tricolor screen, i tried all the stuff in the hermes upgrade problems thread, but i dont know wtf i'm doing. the file mtty.exe wont work.. it just freezes at whatever screen i happen to get it to, be it the tricolor or the HTC screen.
please, someone help me out.. I apologize in advance for not being as savvy as everyone else, but I need some advice here.
Go the tri colour screen
press both soft buttons (the ones that interact with the screen) and insert the stylus and reset.
from here you can make an hard reset. Whenever my phone hangs (or whatever) I use this way BUT i use the cancel button (X) and the phone simply restarts fine
Did u hard SPL your device?

I hard reset, I soft reset, it freezes either way. The only way the computer recognizes the phone is when I get the tricolor screen but active sync wont connect to FINISH loading the upgrade.

I cant because it wont connect to activesync to install anything else.. i cant dongrade, upgrade, nothing! i cant get to version 1.04 from the 1.06 im running because activesync wont recognize my phone.
I think antonlim1999 mean, did you hard-spl before you even upgrade to wm06 or not ?

I already had wm6, i was just getting a better version that didnt have as many bugs.. I began loading it, it got to 45%, then the cat knocked the cable out and it got messed up.. I dont believe it was hard-spl beforehand.. im gonna go with no.
Could you try to SPL in the tri colour mode (as you have contact between the unit and the PC)?

A warning to those with an aversion to reading
This is a warning to those who don't really know what they're doing. Upgrading a ROM on a WinMo device is something that should only be done when you know what you're doing.
Hope your device can upgrade well, but please, take the time to actually read the wiki and forum before upgrading again, for your own wallets sake.

thanks, but I've upgraded before to other versions without a problem and I know that pulling the plug out is a bad idea.. the cat jumped up and ripped it out causing it to brick.
What all the smart arses on this site should be telling you is that you don't need activesync to run the upgrade - it will work just fine from the tri-colour screen.
First off, when you get your phone into the tri-colour screen, check the SPL version - if it isn't 2.10 olipro, the first thing you need to do is read the vanx guide's (link in my sig) and get hard SPL 2.10 olipro on there ASAP - this will prevent you from bricking your phone.
If it is already 2.10 olipro, then breathe a sigh of relief as everthing is OK - just put it into the tri-colour screen and run the upgrade again - it should start again with out a problem.
Cheers,
Smiffy.

O2 XDA Orbit - Upgrading/Backup/Flashing

Sorry if the post has already been mentioned in another forum before.
I have an O2 XDA Orbit and i'm looking to put Fracoons Artermis rom on it http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...o♦.
I'm pretty new to flashing phones and PDA's but i'm quite experienced with a PC so shouldnt need to much help!
I was wondering what steps I should ensure to take to make sure that I dont turn it into a brick, I could do with a complete guide! I've also been told that i'll need to run the Artermus USPL program after connecting the phone. But any help and advice would be a great help. Is there anyway to backup the phone in the state it is at present if or if it doesnt go wrong?
Thankyou for the help and sorry again i've this has already been asked by someone else! Will really appreciated it!
There is no assurance that the process will not make your device a brick. But it happens only on a rare case. Many 1000s of users have upgraded without problems however a few has got their devices a brick.
There is no point taking a backup as the new ROM will give you different files. Anyway, to make sure you don't end up with a bricked device:
-Charge your device fully
-Run USPL
-The process should complete successfully!
-Upgrade ROM.
-Never disconnect your Pocket PC or turn of your PC when the upgrade is going on.
-If your stuck anywhere, don't try to do anything stupid but come here and post.
-Your device should be fine
-Even if some devices get bricked during one of the upgrade process, there is still a high chance of bringing your device back to good working condition with the help of a Factory ROM and so don't worry and go ahead.
Regards,
Carty..
that's my biggest concern so far... my XDA II SHOULD be able to run WM5 but i'm very concerned that i could turn it into a brick... the reason for this is: the XDA is the only phone i have at the moment.
If it bricks, then i'm literally screwed... i have the HimaUpgrade File that does not need an ID, and as i'm pretty fluent with English, i see no problem in using an English ROM.
The Wiki is a good place to start... but i still don't know if i REALLY need active sync to be running or not, since i cannot understand what good that would do if the device is in Bootloader Mode anyway.
Reason for this is that sometimes i read "Active Sync should be on" and sometimes i read the complete opposite... it's freaking me out.
Device should be Synchronized always for the best choice. All un-official ROMs will require this. However, factory ROMs can be flashed directly from Bootloader mode.
That is why I said when you think you screwed the process of upgrading, mostly your device will be stuck at bootloader or you can access bootloader screen and only a factory rom can go from here.
PS: I wont guarantee if the above will be true on all conditions.
Regards,
Carty..
I flash all my ROMs in bootloader mode, including my own, so it's not restricted to the official ROMs. But you need a working ROM to get it back alive.
I'd recommend using a laptop for flashing or use a USV. If some guys cut your power your computer would crash right in the middle of the flashing process - won't happen on a laptop with a working battery.
This is what I want to know. How do I flash in bootloader mode?
okay, i did it this way: first of all you need a rom to flash your device with, but i guess that should be clear
To put your device into Bootloader Mode you have to press the On/Off Button, the Directional Pad AND the reset button (mostly at the lower left corner) simultaneously.
Release the Reset Button first after about a second, and then the other two Buttons.
Your Device should say "Serial" on its Screen... by that time you can put your Device in the Cradle or connect it via a USB Datacable to your PC.
Also: connect the Cable/Cradle directly to your PC, not to a hub as that could cause Problems during the Flashing Process.
Now you can start the Flash-Program, wait approximately 30 Minutes (if you are just flashing the ROM and nothing else) and follow the Instructions that came with your ROM WORD FOR WORD as these instructions are working for most people.
I'm not saying that flashing is without Problems though... when i flashed my XDA II with WM2005 yesterday, i was not able to send/receive Textmessages (SMS), so i had to reflash the device again with the last ROM released by O2, which sucks.

Phone Disconnects from ActiveSync when upgrading

I am trying to upgrade to Schap's new ROM on WM6. Once I have the phone sync'd, I open the ROM update utility and go through the beginning steps. I get to the "You are now ready to update your ROM image..." section and click next. The phone immediately disconnects from the computer and the screen turns off. The ROM update has failed at the point. Help!
Does your phone go into a tri-color screen?
You might want to delete your AS 4.5 settings on your desktop and then install clean from there.
Also, if you have Hard SPL on your handheld (which I HIGHLY recommend) then you could also go to the tri-color screen (hold the "ok" and "power" button together and reset), and the flash from there, using "force safe SPL"...I've had to do that a few times when I lost AS connectivity.
Hope that helps.
And I do NOT take responsibility if none of that works
Jim
OK I was able to get the tri-color screen up by holding those three buttons at the same time and the upgrade started, then failed with a message saying "The image file is corrupted." I downloaded the image file again and it is still giving me the same error. What does that mean?????
Do you have Hard SPL on your handheld??? My first post said you should have loaded that FIRST.
Jim
How do I know if I have SPL?
Can anybody help me? Thanks!

Hard SPL, not just SPL.
and if you dont know what that is, then i suggest you spend a little more time reading before you start flashing
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_HardSPL
OK all the info required to do the upgrades and etc... is available readily in the wiki pages aswell as via the updated search function.
Please make sure you are up to speed on all the info BEFORE doing any upgrading on your device.
Heres some good reading:

I can't believe I'm doing something wrong for something so simple.

I started this thread for my dumbass because I didn't want to clutter up all the other threads that were trying to give real information.
I've even bothered a few of the more knowledgeable people on the forum but I'm sure they have better things to do than explain something they've probably explained a bizzilion times...
Okay, here's what I've got.
My Diamond has 1.37 ROM on it... the last one available directly from HTC.
I've read so freakin' much on here, my head is spinning. My understanding is with each new cooked ROM, you need an spl.
I downloaded two copies of ROM's. One is 1.93 from HTC Europe. I thought if this was a factory ROM, I wouldn't need to install an spl because it would be built in. I get an incompatible message.
I then d/l'd Dutty's new 1.93 cooked ROM. (version 1.3)
Before I tried to install it, I d/l'd 1.24 SPL.
This is where I get fcuked up apparently. Here's what I did....
-I made a folder on the desktop.
-I downloaded 1.24 and extracted the files to the folder I just made.
-I connected my phone and established communication.
-I doubleclicked on "diamond-sspl.bat" file so it would install the spl new spl
-A windows ms-prompt box comes up and you space-bar down through the prompts.
-On the Diamond's screen, a "continue" dialog box comes up. When I click on it, the screen goes black. (phone shuts off)
I disconnect the USB cable, pull the battery and start the phone up.
I guess this is where I'm lost... doesn't this mean I'm ready to install the new ROM? If I hold the volume button down and reboot the phone, it shows version 1.37 spl.
Like I said, I didn't want to clutter up useful threads, for newbies such as myself, it seems the more you read, the more complicated it becomes (when in reality it isn't)
Can someone please clue me in to my stupidity. I know you all answered these questions before but I am literally SICK of reading. I spent 3 hours last night and 7 hours today messing with this. I really do have a life but this phone has me messed up.
Just for the record, I tried the other spl (1.23 and 1.34, etc, etc) to no avail.
Help?
Thanks so much,
Mark

The black screen doesn't mean the phone shuts off, don't disconnect it and let the process continue.

You're kidding me right?
I'll try it again.... if that's the case, I'm SO embarassed.

Okay, the "black screen" has been on since I responded to your post. The lights on the phone are off, am I missing something?
I don't think the phone is doing anything, I think it's off.

How are dfar are you with the hardspl flashing, can u soft reset and connect to activesync, if yes just re-do the process, black screen like what pof said its a part of the process, just run the ruu application and beging flashing thehardspl,
Anyone else?
When I click on continue on the screen, am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Mark
When you have the black screen, start the RUU and flash HardSPL... that's it.

When the screen turns black (which has been off for about 5 minutes now), I can do a soft reset.
Okay, so now I go into the folder I created on my desktop and doubleclick on what? The RUU 1.000.00.00 file or the your 1.3 version upgrade?
In either case, when I do, the tri-color screen comes on for a second and the screen goes to gray with a progress bar sitting on 0%.
(FWIW, when the tricolor bar comes up, it shows 1.37 as the spl) I thought the whole reason I double clicked on the .bat file was to install the 1.24 spl.
?
Thanks,
Mark

After doing a soft reset, correct?
Cause if so, read above post.

I did the RUU install with the screen black and it shows it was successful. I'm SO embarassed.
Okay, so all I've done at this point is install 1.24 spl. Now I can install 1.93, correct?
Geesh, what a moron.

I can't thank you guys enough. I'm honestly terribly embarassed that I kept trying to do a soft reset after running the .bat file.
I just wanted to say THANKS for everyone's patience for us with limited knowledge. I'm sure I'll have more questions later...lol.
Thanks again,

Yes, go for it. Connect via activesync and run the DiamondRUU you extracted from the 1.93 download, the rest is automatic.

Please Help;)

Okay, fairly new to the site. Flashed my phone with NFSFAN's Rom, [email protected] up, no internet connection available (I know this is talked about alot!) SO...while I sit here, I have a Gazillion screens up from this site trying to find a step-by-step guide on how to do this properly..I have read a TON, but every guide I find has a step or two that another guide does not talk about...read about flashing the ROM three times to get it right, but is there a link I'm just missing? And how do you run "customizations"? When do you hard reset as opposed to run the bootloader screen? Sorry for the long post but I LOVE this ROM and want it to work right, but feel I'm not doing something correctly...THANK YOU FOR ANY RESPONSES IN ADVANCE!!!!
Oh, btw, I have a Sprint Vogue
unlock with coke 2.31
enter bootloader mode
plug into computer
run RUU file that comes with the download of NFSFAN's rom
should go to a gray screen that has a progress bar
wait til it gets to 100%
screen will say finished on computer and phone will reset...u can now unplug
run the set up...follow instructions on phone screen
when it says tap to begin it will immediately launch a screen that says customizations, then it will load a bunch of stuff just wait.
after it is done the phone will restart...let it boot up
after it has booted hard reset: hold down send end and reset hole, follow onscreen
repeat phone setup and let customizations run again. phone will reboot like before
now your phone is ready to go.
no need to flash it 3 times that is total BS.
Thank you very much my man! You just saved me! BTW, do I have to disable the usb on active sync...i've read that a couple times. Again, thank you.
To get data, all you need is to install carriers cab after flash.I think NFSFAN even attached them in his thread.
