I guess the title pretty much sums up my question but just to let you know what I've done so far I'll explain fully.
I've been dropping my audio files into the 'Rings' directory for my ringtones without problem. I can then assign these with Start-->Settings-->Phone.
However my dilemma arises when I wish to use a personal audio file as my incoming SMS tone. I've tried copying these to both 'Rings' and also to 'My Music' (although anywhere would be ok I'm sure?). When I try to select an audio file from Start-->Sounds & Notifications-->Notifications I can't see any of my audio files in the 'Event' list to choose for 'Messagin: New Text Message'.
Can you help? Thx in advance.

Try reading the instruction manual..
Start\Sounds & Notifications\Notifications Tab\
User drop down menu to get to Messaging: New Next Message.. Make sure the 'Tick Box' is filled in and use drop down menu to change sound.
If you desire a custom sound, put custom .wma sound into "Windows" on PPC.
Hope this helps..?
Cheers!
After searching for the present notification samples (namely Alarm1, Alarm2 etc...) and finding these within the windows directory of the handset I simply decided I'd store my audio files in the 'Windows' directory to see if they appeared in the 'Event' list.
Tada! I now have funky audio files for my incoming SMS tone. Hope this helps anyone else having difficulty with this problem.

Try reading my post j/k
As I mentioned I can change the Event sound for Windows actions but I want a personal audio file to be used instead. I since worked it out but you managed to get your reply in before I posted mine
I haven't got a manual btw it was an eBay PDA2K purchase and came with no manual a little annoying being a PPC noob but easy enough to use anyway. Just need to find some regedit tools now and see what's really under the bonnet!

It's not got everything but try here.. It's on the T-Mobile UK site..
http://www.manuals.t-mobile.co.uk/start.asp?manual=844
The online manual is VERY HANDY, thanks for that link *bookmarked*
I'll probably d/l the pages and reference images to use offline incase T-Mobile suddenly decide to remove the pages one day (knowing my luck this week).
I'm actually unable to register fully with http://www.clubimate.com as the PDA2K is pre-owned and consequently I need to pay $59.99 to get access to updates and downloads. Which unfortunately for me includes manuals and ROM upgrades. So again I can't thank you enough for the MDAIII link

I wouldn't worry about the clubimate registration as, if required, an i-mate ROM update would proabably be posted in here..
Regarding the Manual, it's probably best to made it usable off-line as I'm not too sure how long the On-line manual will be available.. They've recently stopped selling the MDA3, you know!
Enjoy the BA!

i was trying to do the same..but it doesn't seem to work
i copied both versions *.wma and *.wav..in /windows
but it still does not come in the list..though it comes in the incoming call list
im using wm5..though i doubt that should make a difference
hello??
seems no one knows !! i dont think its that tough?! i tried changing the registery value to the location of the file
still does not work
just downloaded the sounds from the HTC Touch Diamond and they are SWEET! however, i can't figure out how i can get them as my sounds or even use certain sounds for alerts. anyone know how? i extracted them to /windows and no luck. they are in .wma format.

I dont know if you can use .wma's for that, you may nee to convert them to .mp3 or .wav,,,,You may try and drop them in the \application data\sounds folder.
Thanks Pudge! Got it by dropping em in App Data\Sounds
I wonder if there's a master table somewhere of where sounds for various things need to go. I know some sounds can be in My Documents, others in Windows, etc. Add to that that you can't use certain formats for certain events and it gets downright confusing.
all i know is if you drop your sound files in the application data/sounds folder
any customization of sounds can be done if they are in that folder. As far as the types of audio file formats you can use, i really dont know the extent of what you can and cant use. Although it seems that .mp3's, .wav's and .wma's work when editing your profiles, other restrictions are true when editing other things, such as startup-shutdown tones (.wav only) as well as other restrictions that i can't think of off the top of my head.

Any links where you can get these sounds from?
I liked the ones in the rose rom but had to flash back to kavanas because of my weak little battery. Ill go back as soon as I can get a 12 volt car battery wired up to it.
hi,
im using a 3.5mm heaphone jack adapter. but pluggin in my inear plugs is impossible because the lowest system sound and wmp sound is even too loud. using another player software would solve the music problem, but system sound and caller voice would still be too loud.
after searching some hours, i tried installing srs wow hd. only with all options down to 10%, loudness was acceptable, but the sound was crap and my hermes did not wake up from sleep.
now i have read about an audiopara.csv file in the windows directory in threads about other htc devices. no infos about the hermes and i cant finde the file (show all files option on in file explorer)
im using crcs latest rom.
any help appreciated.
chris
u should post this in CRC's thread instead of opening a whole new thread dude.
perhaps it is connected with the audio parameters, that serveral roms have cooked in. i don't know. as far as i can tell, its not a specific rom problem.

it could be, allot of us don't use plug in head phones and it could require a driver that we excluded from newer build accidentally.. i wouldn't know.

i don't think its a missing driver.
im still curious if someone knows about the the audioparam file of the hermes. or perhaps someone could explain the audioparameters that can be cooked into a rom. perhaps they can be edited.

i didnt findt an option to control anything volume related.
i tried now a rom without "setacustics", still too loud on the last volume bar.
has anyone new ideas?
htc equalizer didnt help either. still too loud with all settings down.
tried nueAudio with an AudioPara.csv file i found in a Titan thread, that i moved into the windows folder. i also set a string ref in HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev\AcousticFile to that file, as it was missing there too.
when i change all settings way down in nueAudio, after a softreset i still do not find any difference in the audio volume.
im really running out of ideas except an hardware volume control that i plug between the htc adapter and my headset ...
no ideas? anyone?
Is there an easy way to suppress the sound effects when using the camera?
Doh! Sorry - I just found it on the 2nd menu options page of the camera app...
Where? I'm blind?
Call me stupid, but I don't see the sound options in the Camera settings. I too am looking for a way to silence the camera sounds when taking pictures.
In the Camera settings, go to the Advanced Options. On the 3rd page is a "Shutter Sound" option.
Just a FYI
Hey there!
Well is you have the Telus version YOU ARE SCREW like me
the option is not there
but I found that if you call your voice mail and take picture at the same time, you will get the sound from \windows\shuttersound.wav witch is quiet compare to the rom one.
I did try to delete the file but it keep getting copy over after a softreset
good luck men

I have an unlocked device so I can disable the sound via the camera app settings. But for those of you who can’t, perhaps you can try messing with this registry entry:
HKLM\Software\HTC\Camera\General\DisableShutterSound
If it doesn’t work, place the unzipped attached file into your Windows directory. It’s just a blank wav file (created by opening Windows Sound Recorder and clicking “Save as” without doing anything).
If it still doesn’t work, then maybe you’ll need a wav file recorded with a second of silence…
Thanks but..
Thanks for the reply but that is not working.
I still wanna use the stock phone for now.. but one day I will jump the fence..
I did Try the registry change(S) .(went all through all the reg. to find out something else) deleting reg word and folders (not the greatest solution but i was trying...
had to hard reset 2 times.
I did try to install about 6 others HTC camera cabs..from tp hd etc custom software
I deleted the .wav file I did try to replace it with a silence file. but a soft-reset will re put it back
don't worry about it.. I did try and I FAILED

I will look for the reg setting but if you find it before I do then you can change the sound path from windows\shuttersound.wav to windows\none and that should work. when I find the reg setting I will make a cab for it. should be tonight but if not then I will post it in the am.
Ok here is the cab. Try it and let me know. It does not silence it totally but it only leaves a small click
Sorry ...

Hello HTC Friend,
I did try your Cab file ... and I still have the "Big" shutter sound + the CLICK from telus. I did try many others "cab file" to remove the shutter without success
The "work around" I found use the windows sound file but it really not a good solution to call your voice mail and then get your pic.. ( often too Late)
I did saw the windows\******* in the past (the reg changed was done) noting happen
It look Like TELUS overlap the "windows/HTC" camera function.
What really bugging me is That I CAN'T find the "occ/wav/mp3/midi/audio" file that generate the shutter sound (w/total commander or explorer)
Is it possible that the file would be hidden in The ROM ? and Can't be change unless you move to a custom rom ?
I "kinda" scare to change my rom .. I really depand on my phone.. ( no line at home and I need it to open the door of my App) So I really need something 101% working.
Thanks for you help

I tried the cab, but it does not work on my TP 2, which is the Australian version. I have tried to play around with many reg edits but nothing is changed. Somebody in the other forum managed to modify the camerarc.dll for the Touch HD and Touch Diamond, and it worked for those phones. I wonder if there has been a DLL modification for the Touch Pro 2 version as well?
You may check this thread on modifying the DLL file on ther HTC model to silence the sound.

Attached below are all files/cabs ive tried and none doing any better then the other. Sure the bluetooth volume is increased as well as the speaker on the back of the phone, but looking to also have the small speaker (that you normally use to listen to the other person, one on the front of the phone) to increase since its still low even at the max level! Any ideas? Ive tried installing the full audio boost cab, then the tilt2 specific cab (anyone know what the difference is here?), then copied and overwrote the audiopara3 file in windows, soft reset, even tried a soft reset inbetween each process and still no good. Any ideas?

Try the files I attached, and then reset the phone before attempting, also make sure the volume is all the way up before testing incalls.
Files included are:
AudioPara3_AttMax (Directly into Windows folder)
Bluetooth Line Speed.cereg (Import to Phone Registry. I used CE RegEditor)
Modified Incall Loud Settings (2 Locations)
Ring Setting
I take no credit for the Mods.
Reboot and try it out.
Works on an ATT Tilt 2 with EU Rom Stock. (USA)

These actually do work quite well! I think better then all the above i posted! Anyway to get this in cab form? Kind of a hassle each time i flash a new rom to have to use the desktop ce reg program to import these values each time. Cab would be much nicer if at all possible? Thank you
Made a cab of his settings for anyone that wants to try it ..
Increase Volume.cab
Also here is one that seems to work for me ..
Audio_FINAL1.0_PRO2.cab
Warlock, U beat me to it, but I looked at your file, and seems you made some changes, which aren't my settings, probably to make it work with yours, but I appreciate you making one. I've upped mine as well, which is exactly the same thing as the zip folder just in cab form as requested.
So which ones do what?
This is getting confusing. We now have all these CABS. Much appreciated but which ones do what? Is there just ONE that will increase the speaker volume and earpiece volume and do they also affect the ring-tone volume? I don't know how to compare them all. Can you help clarify please?

Download the files attached to my first post if you dont mind editing the registry. And add the CSV file into the windows folder. If you do not like to mess with the registry, then download my cab file attached to my post and it will install and if you dont like it you can uninstall it from remove programs.
Warlock as nice enough made a cab file, but looking at it seems to have changes in his, so as not to confuse anyone my set of files work. But remember you must install the AudioPara3_ATTMax in the windows folder of the phone.
hey angeldeath, i modified your cab file to include the audiopara file as well.
look on next page for volume cab

tried the increase volume cab, soft reset, checked all sounds on device and all working perfect and much louder! Im not hard of hearing, just my work environment can be very loud at times and moving around a lot i dont always feel my phone vibrate so i need a loud ringer and very loud earpiece as well!
I also installed the second cab (audio_final), soft reset, tested all sounds and all working fine.
To warlock, whats the difference between the first cab u put together and the second cab? Is it best to install both as i did or use one or the other?
I would use just one ..
try it .. if it works great .. if not uninstall it.
try the other ..
if it works great .. if not uninstall it.

Sounds good. Was just curious if one did something the other cab didnt and if it would be better to install both to get the best of both worlds? Either way, greatly appreciate the work!
still confused!
I installed marcini.thinkblu-tilt2 vol increase.cab because it reduces the bassiness heard when the headset is connected as well as increasing the headset volume. But what exactly do these other CABS do? There's the handset earpiece volume, the speaker volume, the headset volume and the ringtone volume. What does what? And as one CAB posted here appears not to work, can someone produce an alternative or one CAB that does everything? Thanks for all your input. This is a necessary adjustment to an expensive phone that we can't hear.
The Cab warlock put up after me isnt my file, the reason is cause if you install his cab his cab points to a file that doesnt exist, thats why you would get no sound. My files (In my posts) will, cause the file name it refers to is also attached to my post. So I suggest you dont mix and match or your going to have many sound problems.
These files do the following (Under my posts)
Increase the Ear piece, increase the bluetooth earpiece and sound quality, and increase the ringer of the phone to better hear in a loud enviroment.
