I wrote this in 30 minutes after working with all of these 4 applications for the past week. It's not complete nor full. But it certainly give a good perspective. Since I wrote it in 30 minutes and I'm in a hurry now, execuse me for typos or spelling mistakes from fast mind-straight-to-the-keyboard typing. lol.
PhonePlus 2
========
PROS:
* Excellent quick one hand 9 dialing mode.
* Integrated with the green button of the phone (BIG BIG plus)
CONS:
* No SMS support (Finger Clix and Extended phone are great)
* No picture of the caller (even though a picture is associated with my PDA2K internal AI app).
* The call hostiry viewer is premitive.
Finger Clix 2
========
PROS:
* SMS Support - When you find a contact, you can click on the big SMS button and it automatically opens the WM2003SE built-in SMS apps with the number there. So it's convenient for SMS sending.
* The SMS that is sent is kept in the Sent items of the built in WM messaging app. So everything is logged (because it uses the built in SMS app)
* Good Caller Photo support - Very nice feature is that the program automatically displays (even during the search) the picture of my contact straight from the internal AI app that comes with the PDA2K. Certainly cool feature. You can easily dial someone even when XXXVING as you see his big picture contact right on the screen, you don't even have to read his name.
* Has a dedicated program for creating skins. This is great.
* Nice Call history with easy switching between outgoing, incoming or missed calls.
* When you get a contact with many pgone numbers, you can choose to make a phone number a 'default' for future uses through the default button,
* The vibrate on tap is a nice feature.
* Nice built-in skin chooser (although I didn't find more than 3 skins out there, but i didn't look hard either)
* Has a button called PLUG-IN which supports internal plugins from software already installed on your PPC (for example: Faxing or easily assigning a photo to the contact you've just selected)
CONS:
* BIG BIG drawback is that it doesn't support my PDA2K green phone cutton! Even when in the app, to dial, you still have to use the on screen phone button. This is a pitty.
* I didn't like the fact that switching between ABC and numbers requires 2 presses, one to go to a selection screen and another to select the righ input type method.
* The human engineering is good, but can be better. For example, when I see a contact on the screen already, I would rather prefer to access the plugins button right from the screen and not have to press the contact info button on the left first.
* Clicking to go to the contacts app, only support the built in premitive pocket outlook contact app and does not support programs such as Pocket Informant or Agena Fusion.
Extended Phone 2.50
===========
PROS:
* Screen displays by default the last call, it's time start/end and duration. Also has 'Hide Call' button to hide it. It also displays the GSM provider you're connected to.
* Easy SMS sending with customizable keyboard for quick entry. BIG SMS buttons make it very easy. Overall very good human engineering here.
* Nice button locks the dialer though not very useful as hardware keys are not locked.
CONS:
* No support for photos (finger clix is great in this regard - that it supports photos from the itnernal pda2k app).
* Does NOT support the green answer button on my PDA2K (BIG DRAWBACK)
IntelliDial
========
Not much to say, except that PhonePlus2, FingerClix2 and Extended Phone all beats this program easily. it's worth mentioning the badly designed small window that automatically searches as you tap (the 9method) And of course the plus that it integrates with the green button (actually it is the green button..)
MY OWN CONCLUSION:
===============
Keep in mind this review isn't thorough or accurate, but it's the way I see it after installing all the apps on my machine and playing around with them for the past several days it's just the say I see it.
All of these apps are far from perfect. It's not like they all have the same features just implemented differently. Each of them has it's own features and unfortunately lacks good features from the others. If one was to take and implement all of these features it would make for the perfect dialer.
As for what is the best app among these 4 ? Well, it depands on which
feature is important to each one of us, so it's very individual. Again, the perfect would be a combination of all of them, but unfortunately it's a dream. My choice so far is the FINGER CLIX 2.0 for the more overall benefits than all other programs I've seen so far.
I would like to hear comments from guys here on what their choice is.
And mostly from people who tried ALL of these applications and not just one of them. They would be able to make a better choice and judgmenet.
Assuming one is happy with the default dialler that comes with the phone, is there any app that works with this dialler that allows the assigning of different ring tones to individual callers?
Thanks!

Have you tried VITO QuickContact PRO PE ?

Hi Sorci,
I favor for FingerClix alwell. :lol:
I tried them all and FingerClix doesn't support the green answer button but it is a very stable program. Something I couldn't say from some of the other programs!
Wouter
Thanks for all replies. I guess the other programs are not stable. I just tried this progrm Potala Telly, it's very nice and has great potential. BUT like the other programs, it lacks very very important features, like the QUICK 9DIAL, it is very slow even when no other program is run, and it already crashed once.
for me, I prefer the built-in dialer!
Nothing will fit all your needs
we need one with a speakerphone button
Anyway to have the phone vibrate and play ringtone at the same time?
PhonePlus 3.04 supports SMS
Vibrate and Ring

You've probably discovered this already; go to Tools under Phone, look for Options, look under Ring Type.
I've been using my Artemis for a week right now, and I must say I love the overall system !
One thing looks crappy to me: contacts.
I find it very difficult to dial using one hand only (expecially when driving).
I have hundreds of contacts (will be thousands in the near future)... figure it out using it from my car with no stylus looking for Doe, John:
- tap on contacts
- tap twice on "CDE" ... oh.. why is so damn small ?
- use the wheel to reach Doe, John
- press the blue button twice ... oh again ... this thing works as a joystick, and if not pressed correctly you will call your old aunt Dorothy in place of mr Doe !
So, I'm kindly asking to you WM5 gurus:
- is there an alternative way of doing all this process (keep in mind thousand contacts, so dont't tell me to use voice recognition)
or
- is there a way to make the "#ab","cde","fgh" buttons bigger ?
- disable the joystick feature and use just the wheel ?
Thanks in advance,
G.
There is the "Intellidial" on the phone pad that allows you to dial Doe with just 3 presses of the phone keys Press the green button to go into phone function. Press on 3,6,3 successively. Even before you complete this, the name would be shown on the screen. If there are more than one number stored under this name you can use the scrollball left-right to see them. After this just press the scroll ball to dial. Simple.
It would save you a lot of heartache (and less "spam"onthis site) if you would take some time to search and read this and other forums
Merry X'Mas
wow ! Simpler than expected
Thanks !
Hi,
i installed B&B V4 today and it´s really great! Thanks to tom for this awesome work. Come over to germany and you´ll get some beer
macguffin provided me with the solution:
You can make contact manager work from any contact button (cube, soft keys, phone, anywhere that was previously the default app) by changing the following reg
HKLM\software\microsoft\shell\rai - MSCONTACTS
0 CONTACTS
1 "\windows\pocketcm.exe"
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
OLD POST:
There is just one thing I`m wondering. Pocket CM is a nice app but it´s not fully implemented to the system.
I´m looking for some Tricks or Infos how to use Pocket CM in all situations. I managed to change the contact button from the Today Screen to start it.
Code:
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113\Default = Contacts
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113\Open = "\Windows\pocketcm.exe"
Now i´m looking for the telephone and the settings for the touchflo cube.
Can somebody help me/us out?

Wow thats a fast replay!
If you are in the contact side of the cube and press the button for the contacts its allways opens the built in contact list, not Pocket CM.
Take a look in at the first picture, i mean the third button from the left in the lowest row.
And in the second picture i would like to change the contacts button in the lower left corner.

EDIT:
Jesus, its the perfect day! Thanks macguffin, its just great.
Works perfectly thanks for the solution. Now anyone working on pocketem - an email client replacement for M$ rubbish

THink that's because the 'contact' buttons are all taking you to the contact list but the photos and going one level down and taking you to the contact information.
Don't think you'll be able to change this.
PS like your avatar
does anyone know how to add pocketcm.exe to the "exclusive" list of x-button? if i understand that correctly, programs in that list are not closed (just hidden) when pressing x-button. but how can i add an item to that list?
EDIT: ok, i found it. for those who dont know:
- run the tool you want in exclusive list
- settings/system/x-button
- select "running" tab
- tab the program you want. it needs a short tab (that was my problem. never tried short tab, always long tab *sigh*)
- choose "Add Exclusive"
I modify this with Resco but can you help me, i want to return with the original contact application
My current settings :
HKLM\software\microsoft\shell\rai - MSCONTACTS
0 CONTACTS
1 "\windows\pocketcm.exe"
When I go into biotouch setting, I can only modify the 6 programs + media!
But I can't change the settings for the contacts.
I want my default contact list to open when I press contacts on the normal screen and my Pocket CM list when I press it in the cube.
Is this possible? How?
It seems that after doing the registry change to have pocketcm.exe as the defaut contact list, when you try to make a picture to associate it to a contact, the camera device won't initialize and the artemis bugs and starts running really slowly. Does anyone has the same problem ?
So, I thought I would come back to the original registry so I'd like the same information than Jack. What is originally instead of the red line in the registry ? (I changed it like previously mentioned to get pocketcm.exe as the defaut contact list but I can't remember what was written here before)
HKLM\software\microsoft\shell\rai - MSCONTACTS
0 CONTACTS
1 "\windows\pocketcm.exe"
Thx for your help and once again great job Tom!
the camera bug is in the original rom (i mean original B&B4 by tom). there is a thread already for this. no solution so far, but tom is looking into it.
edit: btw, i think the correct registry entry is
0 CONTACTS
1 :MSPOUTLOOK contacts
you can see how it's done in other registry keys like HKLM\software\microsoft\shell\rai - :MSCALENDAR
oh, I thought the camera bug previously mentioned was that you couldn't see the pictures after a picture was taken from the contact tab.So to me,even with the camera bug, you still can take a picture.
Mine is different : when i hit the litte camera icon in the 'associate a picture to your contact' menu, the camera won't open and the whole pda bugs. WHen I manage to close all applications in memory, afterwards it is impossible to open the camera from any menu, not even with the dedicated button on the side of the pda. The camera just won't initialize.
anyway, thx for the registry trick soardiac !

i have the same thing after freshly flashing B&B4. it was also this way in v4 beta. i guess camera application is just messed up. there are other things like GPS phoe or panorama photo that also dont work.
setting pocket cm as default changed nothing at all in my camera app. i am sorry if it did for you
oh, btw, this is the way i save pictures to contacts (even with all the bugs):
- make picture using "photo" mode and "M-resolution"
- after picture is made, click the preview button (magnifying glass symbol or whatever it should be)
- picture opens in preview. now click menu->save->save to contact
- done
works for me.
Hi fellow XDA-Developerians,
I am on Topix 2.7 now. Can't remember on which ROM but I have actually used a ROM by either Onkolog or Miri which has call recording option under the right softkey menu during a call. This gives the flexibility to record only the part of the whole call that you want. I am using ACR v1.2.1 but there is no such option of activating it when needed. So basically if you make a 1 hour call it will record the whole conversation which will eventually eat up a lot of memory. Can anybody tell me how to get the option in the right softkey which I was talking about?!
Only edit this reistry entrys:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\AudioRecording]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Voice]
"EnableCallRecordMenuItem"=dword:00000001
"AllowInCallRecording"=dword:00000001
Or, more easy, install the cab
Bye
Does somebody know if it is possible to replace the notes buton in the dialer for a record button. In the cabs, tweaks, etc. post is written down how to enable in call recording, but to start a recording you must first open the menu. Is is much easier to have a start record button.
Anybody ????
