I can't install xml files
Please tell me? how i can do that
You cannot install xml files Think about it - its just a text inside...
edit: XML stands for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XML
it's related to html as internet pages it's not a bin file which one can install
XML file is an input to another program and that would read the content and install whatever needs to be.
i have the same problem!!
The XML format files opend by document as defult, I cant install any XML format files.
Also in pocket PC the explorer is the defult to open XML files.
ad2master: Are you dumb, or just cannot read? Everything is explained above. I would just add, that XML is TXT, or INI file. It's just text prepared for a program to read.
When you got such a file from and what makes you think, that you can install it?
i think he's meaning is to load info in OMA xml foramat files that wince supports
like registery info ,network setting info,or file operation info etc.
We don't know it. Anyway for future reference: If you have problems with "XML file installation" provide us with example, we will be able to check what it contains.
Good news and Bad
BAD news = (jakubd) is a jack *EDITED*.
GOOD news = I have a fix.
WARNING = using this fix may make you kick yourself. I did.
PROBLEM = When you open the compressed file you see the content, some files and the important SETUP.XML Like years of Windows use has taught us, the SETUP file is the only one we need. It's like magic, we click and the preprogrammed file will do the rest. BUT all you get is TEXT. Thats crap.
CAUSE = You have WinRAR installed on your desktop PC, Don't you??
See WinRAR is telling your desktop computer that your .CAB file is a compressed .RAR file. It is but we will not get in to that. Confusion sucks.
FIX = You don't have to do step 1. but I recommend you do.
1. (on your desktop computer) go to START and to ALL PROGRAMS and open WinRAR. That was easy. Now click on OPTIONS and go down to click on SETTINGS (or just hit (CTRL + S) Click on tab INTEGRATION. On the left UNCHECK the BOX marked CAB. Say my name over and over while dancing on one foot.
2. Take the file you are installing (STILL COMPRESSED) and put it on your device. Use your FILE EXPLORER in your device to EXECUTE the still compressed .CAB (note: if you did not do step 1 the file will LOOK like a .RAR on your PC but a .CAB on your Phone/Device.)
SHORT ANSWER = do NOT uncompress the file on your Desktop PC. Just take the file just as it was when you downloaded it and put it on your Phone/Device. Use your Phone/Device file explorer to locate the file and execute it.
NOW = Kick your own *EDITED*
So going back to the very begining - you never ever install XMLs. Good explanation DJ_SirG - I would never guess that anybody at any occasion would try to decompress a CAB.
But as usual I'm asking myself - how many times people will as on forums "how to install xml file"... At least I have a place to point them to. Thanks!
DJ_SirG
Thank You very much for helping, problems solved now.
jakubd
I am just asking for help, you can help others if you want, or just keep your self away with your huge experience.
ad2master: I'm doing my best to help, but if somebody asks you "how to do X" and the person receives answer "you don't because it makes no sense" and then another one asks the same thing multiple times in multiple places instead of thinking for a while you can get irritated. Also when people ask hundreds of times the same question (like where is reset button) that are clearly explained in Wiki or were answered many times here, you can also get irritated and more over - they get irritated when you point the to the wiki or suggest HR.
And of course sometimes you can miss the point (like here) because of lack of information from the other side. I would never guessed that smb could first decompress a CAB file to install it and you need to know this part to understand the whole story with "xml" installation problem. It's like a person calling Ford support and asking "my car doesn't go" just to find out, that it run out of gas - it's so obvious, that you need fuel, they you don;t even take it into account. Same with CAB - it's so dead obvious to me that you don't decompress it before installation, that I would never take it into account.
So if you want precise and effective answer, check the wiki, search, use google, if nothing comes out and you think your are the first in the world with this specific problem: ask. But because you think you are so special, please try to be specific: give all the details that might be needed. answer all the questions that might help other people solve your problem. There is always somebody that might be able/want to help you, but you also have to help him.
I think The miss communication is when we would click on the .cab file to download it once it showed up on our desktop, it was a .rar. Like the file name was changed. So if you download XDA.CAB once the file was on your desktop it said XDA.RAR. So you click on it to find your .CAB file just to find .XML and let the confusion began.... Thanks for your help guy's and I hope this helps you. If it do, reply back with a quick word so we know the post is getting used and not deleted...

I Must say to all you.."A-Holes" That Spitted on us for asking stupid questions like that you guys bashing us this guy actually knew what we were talking about and helped us why you guy stood back and did nothing Grats buddy you answered my question. and it just goes to show not everyone knows everything about computers.
The only reason I found this fix was because I ran out of hair to pull out.
We are not all rocket scientists
I too had no idea how to install a .cab file with a setup xml file. Once the one gentlemen said to install the file with the file explorer it literally took as long as it took to open that file. I am really disappointed that I had a question and in order to get it answered I have to go through the abuse of being called names and being cursed at. I get enough of that at home. If you are going to run a web site that is a computer forum, you can safely assume that most of us do not have your knowledge; otherwise, we would have the web site. Nonetheless, thank you for your web site. My program is now installed. Merry Christmas, Lindy Wise
THANKYOU thankyou thankyou
A sincere thank you...

You have no idea how much time I saved with guys like you in this forum...
Currently, I am out of pennies; as such , could not give you a donation for now...
( that's why I'm reviving my xdaIIs that runs wm2003 to run wm6.5 ... so that I can give it to my disappointed son as a present... ) cant afford a sonyPSP.
When I'm back on my feet, I shall not forget those who helped me...
Thank you... and may your hair grow back Fast & Furious ...
Honestdad
I have read all the previous messages but cannot get the answer im looking for. I have a folder which contains text files and a xml file. I do not see any setup file for me to click on.
but as all the previous posters, you probably didn't download a folder, but an archive and you extracted it to see the folder and its contents. that was the mistake. the .cab file appears like an archive on the pc, but is the extractable setup for the phone. try it again by extracting nothing and copy the file to the phone and start it there.
So i have searched the forum, and i saw that to hack the HD2 with WM7 on it your must install XAP, Chevron, zune bla bla bla. But i don't undersand it...
For the first step i read the Chevron topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857127
And performed the following steps :
1. Unzip file, and attach chevronwp7.cer (see below for file) to an e-mail to yourself
2. Open email in WP7
3. Tap attachment once, turns it into a shield, tap it again, goes to install certificate screen with white letters on black screen
4. Click install at the bottom
Now the rest steps the registry i cant find this folder "ProxyPorts" and even if i create it, the 6,7,8 steps don't work, the .exe said that the phone is not connected, and so like zune, no device detected.
What to do ? I want to sync my PC , i have 2 OS, XP SP3 and Win7 (notebook) . On wich of them to sync my phone, what are the correct steps ?
I want to upload movies, music , custom ringtones in my phone, and to upload from my HD2 my photos and videos into PC.
Please...
Tired of searching the google, the xda forum and other topics, that give abstract tips and advices...
have you installed the wp developer tools? that is suppose to edit your registry for you.
No, can you "light" me up with all the correct steps ? Please
you will have to use the win7 comp.
here is the link to the site for the tools...http://create.msdn.com/en-US/
check out this thread as it shows everything ya need to knw
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916497
I must install these : http://create.msdn.com/en-us/home/getting_started
and that's it ?
yes to be able to use the un-locker and to be able to deploy xaps...but not to use zune
god, again im confused. Usualy i understand everything, and no problems with ios, with androids , wm < 7.
I put those tools, then what unlocker and what xap ? Links maybe or something -_- thanks
well first start by installing the tools before try to do anything else.
then the unlocker allows you to unlock your device install apps, and the apps are a .xap file
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916497
There are 3 links :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QolhT5LXgGo
In this video i show you how to jailbreak and sideload apps to your windows phone 7 device.
ZUNE SOFTWARE
http://www.mediafire.com/?pesqg3asdoghea3
WP7 Unlock Tools
http://www.mediafire.com/?r3cx4mfeecuieo0
Only the first ? Or all of them?
that just shows you how to do it, but have you installed the tools yet?
They are now installing on my notebook with win 7 (10 of 13) of them installed, waiting
After that i make the unlock like in the first youtube link ? or what?
yes thats correct
Oh, i installed annd WP7 unlock tools, then i connect my phone with the notebook thru usb, runnning ChevronWP7.exe, and the pc says : Sory im having trouble comm with the phone Please make sure its con with usb - please start the zune application.
What should i do ?
you have to have zune running and have you phone named and account must be main and not guest account
So, i have registered now an account on zune, and now installing zune.
What do you mean by i need to have my phone named?
ok, now i synced it, named, executed ChevronWP7.
Lets see
Ok, so i executed Tom XAP installer, and appears an error :
Unhandled exception has occured blablabla
Acces to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.xap" is denied
DETAILS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ CONTINUE \\\\\\\\\\\ QUIT,
pressed continue, and then appeared a box, with a checkbox , after that i pressed X to close the window, follow in the WP7 3MktPlace folder > Downloads > and the files with .xap are not associated what should i do ?
FIXED, I opened the .xap files with the TOM XAP insaller, and then insalled them. All works well. Thank you , jasontac
Is there something i should do ? or its all about it ? now just uploading the phone with all the files i need ?
and btw how i upload for example a video file from the phone in my pc?
it is in the setting in zune, but should do it when you connect to it
This works on HTC HD7 have not tried on other devices
What we want to do
Read .pdf files on WP7 Device, without emailing them to yourself.
What you will Need
- Chevron Unlocked Hd7
If its not check this or the ultimate solution that worked for me this last Entry on this page quoted by me. At the same time make sure you Apply this to prevent it from relocking
- TouchExplorer installed on the Device.
If you don't have it get it from here
- Registry key on your Desktop to Enable Mass Storage.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/29/how-to-enable-usb-storage-on-windows-phone-7/
- Zune installed on Desktop
- .pdf files which you want to read on WP7
How to do it
1. Connect your Phone to Desktop using USB Cable.
2. Zune Starts and Sync Completes.
3. Close Zune.
4. Copy your .pdf files to the root of Storage (MyComputer\HD7\Storage)
5. Disconnect Phone from Desktop.
6. Start TouchExplorer on Device.
7. Go to "My Device/My Documents/Zune/Content/0400/01 or 02"
8. Here you will find your .pdf files with the name of 8.z or something .z extension.
9. Rename them to YourFileName.pdf.
10. Now Copy them to "My Device/Applications/Data/BC4F319A-____-____-____-____________/Data/IsolatedStorage.
11. Exit TouchExplorer.
12. Run Adobe Reader, and find your Pdfs listed there.
Hope it helps everyone here. Best of Luck and let me know if you face any issue.
Dont be a stranger to Thanks Button if it helps you.
Hello Moderator,
By mistake i created the thread here can you move it to
"Windows Phone 7 Development and Hacking" or let me know how i can do it.
Ok, so I have my PC and Phone paired, but each time I try to send a file from my Android to my PC the transfer fails. I have my PC setup to automatically accept files from connected devices, but it instantly fails every time.
Has anyone succeeded in doing this, and any idea what I am missing...
EDIT - sorry I posted in wrong forum. Can a mod please move this to Android General
Moved to Q&A.

When you say "paired" are you talking about a Bluetooth file transfer? If so try a program from the market called Bluetooth File transfer. That works between my 2 Epics.
Do you BONSAI?
So does this mean that the built in BT program won't work either??? I tried BT file transfer, but didn't have luck with that the first time.
More information.
I can send files from my PC to my Android all day long, but cannot receive files.

Did you try to disconnect and repair letting the Epic scan for the computer? How about an Antivirus program or firewall? Disable all of those and try it.
Do you BONSAI?
I have installed the connectivity on many machines that others have given up on!
It's EASY! Before you begin, You might also need to open my computer, click on tools, folder options, views and put checks in display contents of system folders
also put a check on show hidden files and folders. Just so that you will be able to see the necessary folders and files.
1) Un-install any other android phone connection software that might be installed on the PC.
2) Use Microsoft Update and get the PC updated to the latest available updates.
3) Install the latest Media Player available to your OS. (XP is only capable of 11) NOTHING LOWER THAN !0 WILL WORK.
The files can be downloaded from the link below.
4) Copy the 2 files in the Toshiba INF folder to your Windows/inf folder (The original ones in your system are mostly the reason for the problem)
5) Install the Kies software, and do not let it update! The newer version won't work.(Don't panic, it takes a few minutes to complete the install)
6) After you're all done, make sure you have the USB Debugging checked on your phone. (Settings/developers options)
Connect the phone to the PC using the USB cable that came with the phone.
It may take a while for the new drivers to install, and also a while to recognize the phone. Just be patient
7) If the system does not work the first time, disconnect the phone and reboot the PC.
8) Open Kies and do the Troubleshoot Connection (it has kept a record of what needs to be fixed when it tried and failed.
9) After it completes, Re connect the phone to the PC, after a while, it will make the connection!
10) After the first time it connects, you will no longer need to run the Kies software to connect to the PC.
Just connect the cable and the PC will recognize the phone..
If for some reason it loses connectivity and cannot connect again, just run the kies again and it will work like it did before.
The files you will need (except the Media Player) can be gotten here:
http://bitshare.com/files/scn15w79/Best-Way.rar.html 3/18/2013
http://www.putlocker.com/file/0D6BDDFFF311EF1C
Link added and checked as of 6/8/13
4) Copy the 2 files in the Toshiba INF folder to your Windows/inf folder (The original ones in your system are mostly the reason for the problem)
what is the windows/inf folder?
im tyring to search it but not getting any hits
thanks

I was advised to check this thread out in regards to my S2 lte having the same issue. That being said it hasn't worked. Can't see what I could be doing wrong. As far as i can tell the only thing that was even slight unclear is whether or not to delete the original files int he INF folder as the two files in the Toshiba folder have the same name as the ones in the INF folder. So I choose copy and replace. Was that incorrect?
AAARGHHHH the issue has now spread to my 10.1 Tablet. Nothing connects now.

That would be wherever YOU downloaded it to
when you click on the download link at the end of the list, you will download it. unpack the files. Then you will be able to copy them to the ini file folder in windows.
You might also need to open my computer, click on tools, folder options, views and put checks in display contents of system folders
also put a check on show hidden files and folders.
it's is not that hard to understand if you read the steps carefully. maybe you might want to print the list out, and check off each step as you complete it. Also you would be able to reference the file as you are doing the steps.
if you skip any one of the steps, or jump around, it may not work as the steps in the procedure were deliberately done to facilitate the actions that occurr behind the scenes, and still achieve the expected results.

RE-upped one and verified the other as working. 6/8/2013
this not works on my S4 ... I do all but NOT !! :crying:
Not working 29/12/2016
To establish connectivity, I would download the universal Samsung USB drivers or install Kies/SmartSwitch and use the original Samsung USB cable on a USB 2.0 port.
Can't download the files off that site, as well as I can't access my I535PP at all. I've tried everything, and at one point kies said my device wasn't supported yet it's on the list... Idk what to do...
Edit: Kies specifically says unsupported device when it goes to connect to it, and says to use smart switch but that wouldn't work either.
