t mobile internet - HTC Excalibur

so i took the 5.99 unlimited t zones off my t mobile account and now i see they dont have it anymore. so im wondering if anyone still has it set up with the proxy and if it still works? or is the 25 dollars internet the only way to go?
cause i heard their is a way to get my 5.99 t zones back, i just want to know if its worth it

I wouldn't recomend anything else but the 20-25 dollar unlimited data plan, plus there's a rumor that the're starting to find out how's hacking the proxy, and billing them for the data anyways.

i plan on using t zones as long as i can. if they take it from me (again) its ok.

Limewire with 5.99 tzones to work

ok i knw that you can connect you phone to you computer and get internet acces on your computer and having you phone as the modem, and i knw that when you use it with the 20 dollar plan(data) you dont need to configure anything on your computer.
But for the 5.99 data plan you need to configure you connection settings>lan settings and add your proxy for the internet to work on you computer.
But what settings do i do to make limewire work, cause it works for the 20 dollar plan, and with out touching the settings, but with the 5.99 plan, what settings do i configure to make limewire work?

yep I pay for it because I think that I use enough data to pay for it.. If I was using limewire I would definitely pay for it. Tmobile knows that they let people use the proxy however if 100 people in each city were to all download on limewire say 2-3 hours daily, I believe tmobile would cap this in a heartbeat. Or at least talk to comcast and figure out how to throttle any torrent activity to almost 0, which to be honest on Edge is probably real close to what kind of speeds you are getting. How long does it take to download 35MB? Now think about how much data that is over the cell line(Edge). And if you are downloading movies or tv fuggeadabooutit!!! For $5 internet on your cell you should be aloud to browse, check your email, even download small programs but LIMEWIRE, that is flat out abusing the system. If tmobile shuts down the proxy I believe that you and people like you will be to blame. SO no I wont help you out with that even though I will tell you that it is absolutely possible to get this working. Quit slowing down my connection!!
I know how to make this work. However tvwgtiron has a very good point. Don't abuse the already SLOW connection TMobile gives us!!! Besides, I dont think Limewere supports https proxies anyway. All the configuration has to be on the computer, not on the phone, so the Tmobile configuration page is useless in this case.
ok i can see your point of view, but you have to understand, first of all, tmobile, att and so on restrict or limit how much bandwidth is distributed to each consumer, for example comcast, you purchase a plan with 2Mbps so the most you can use is 2Mbps, att and tmobile dont give a specific speed to everyone saying, this is the most we can let u use, no. they have in their system a limit, because they are a very big company with thousands of clients and knw that mostly everyone will be using their data services, but knw that they can if they wanted to, give you more faster speeds to download or surf the internet, but they dont do this, cause it will cause interuptions, so they limit how much bandwidth is distributed to every client. do you see what i am saying.
now if you dont want to help me thats fine, i respect your opinions, and i am not going to argue, the only reason i ask this is because, in the area where i live, is in the middle of nothing, dsl nor cable is available in my area, except for satellite, but thats way to expensive 60 bucks a month, compared to 5, thats a big difference, especially for the speeds being the same as dial up. ( i knw because i used to have it) and the closest city near by is about 30 miles, and guess where my dial up has to dial to, yup that city thats 30 miles away, so you can imagine the latency. its ridiculously slow. and the only way i connect to the internet is with my phone, thats the only thing i have that gives me decent speeds. thank you for your help either way.

So you are trying to tell us that adding another 9.00/month is not worth it??
Hell dude, 14.99 and you have the whole net. Cheaper then any other cable company out there, for decent speed, coming from a phone. lol
I agree with others, I think using the proxy is really considered theft of service.
The fact they have not acted on it yet, or may never pursue it, does not make it right to abuse.
I see nothing wrong with surfing and email myself, but if your going to try using a bandwidth hog such as Limewire to steal music, that hurts everyone in the long run... They will probably cap everyones internet, or raise prices, etc from all the people abusing the service.
You can give all the excuses you want, but manipulating your phone to take more than what you pay for is called stealing, and its not fair to those of us who actually pay for the real service.
you will pay for a cable modem if you had the chance at 50 or so a month but wont loosen the purse strings and pay 20 bux for the internet that you can get? that makes no sense to me in any way, plus, if my $20/month data plan goes up because you cheap idiots wanna run an entire network off a cell phone usuing proxy hacks...id be pissed. accept it for what its worth. you are lucky to get what you get for 5 bux...stop trying to not only abuse it but GROSSLY abuse it.

$5.99 plan and Opera Mini...

I recently 'upgraded' to the 5.99 plan and so far it works fine for
Yahoo Go
P I E
Weather Updates
pretty much everything.......
except Opera Mini...its off and on with Opera Mini...anyone know why?
Java doesnt work on the 5.99 plan
Actually, Java does work on the 5.99 plan. I am running Opera Mini and GMail off of my GPRS connection and they both work. Neither required any special setup, to my recollection.
I do believe you have to be running Windows Mobile 6.1, though.
well its working now. im using it to send this message. its just off and on...
Yeah i think with the 5.99 plan since your using a proxy to connect, the information is slow to get to opera's servers... i think. I think im just going to get the 19.99 plan and deal with it.
imma try this out for a month...or less. lol.
I downloaded Ricky's V23 with Opera. I assumed this meant that Opera was included, but I do not see where/how I can inititate the running of this program.
I did find a option to Install Opera, but it does not seem to do anything.
Help please....
i have oprea and the 5.99 plan and i did all the things they told me too as far as the settings goes...and still no cigar...i tired for a while but i just dropped after my failures
Plan on all of the 5.99 freebie connections to the internet to go bye bye as T-Mobile rolls out their 3g. I used the 5.99 plan for years (actually a grandfathered 2.99 plan) then all of a sudden it stopped working... then I saw the guys on the Cell towers and figured it had to do with 3g. So far three months later no 5.99 connections anymore. However the 19.99 plan I have on my Dash works perfectly so I had my free ride long enough I suppose LOL

Seperate phoes seperate plans. The 5.99 is in reality just for Wap access, not for internet, so why would t-mobile notify anyone since you should not get internt on a Wap plan? The fact that we could get internet on a Wap plan was due to open proxies that are being closed. Why would I call? I got something for free and now I dont.. do you think they would say oh we are sorry you cant keep getting a service for free.. shame on us for closing the hole in our system you were exploitimg.... lol
5.99 plan works for full Internet access. I have used this all around the country - most recently in NY and Atlanta and Sacramento.
Ihave been reading that the 5.99 full Internet is gone for over a year - WRONG. It has even worked outside the US.
Yes - sometimes I can not make a connection. I usually try to stop other programs that are running - sometimes reboot. Not sure if that fixes it - but in any event in a few mins it comes back
work with low speed.
Don't know about low speed. I have tried using with WiFi and I will be darned if Ican tell much of a difference.
the plan 5.99 is not the same that wifi, when u use wifi you are using high speed connected to router or hotspot, the plan 5.99 you are using wap internet connection, less speed

Totally misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying that the 5.99 plan was done and not just the hack. I still have the hack working for me. I understand that 3G is much faster then edge. If that is so I don't mind paying the extra 14.00 for it.

tzones hack

hi I currently have the $25 web to go and was planning to switch over to the tzones hack due to the fact I only use it to check my emails.
I was wondering, does the tzones hack still work? if so which proxy? I've done my research and found 3 different ones
thanks
pfc sol
the tzones trick still works but good luck getting them to add it. they wont do it at the store you have to contact customer support. and i would use "dumb" phone to add it then switch back to your dash.
use the apn epc.tmobile.com
but be ware they do monitor the data usage
really? because i receive mountains of emails everyday, will they notice it?
how much data do you normally use in a month? i think the most ive used is maybe 70 some mb. every now and then i tether it to my laptop and thats where most of my data comes from.
if you can get it added, its worth it. wont last forever, but it will be a good ride
how long have youve had it for? i know some people on t he forums have had it for years
when i joined the forum i had it, used it for a while. cancled it and now i have it back.
it wasnt easy to get it back after they grandfathered it.
look on hofo theres a thread about it on there

T-MOBILE $9.99 Unlimited Internet with the TP2??

hi guys
i got my service with t-mobile last week, and ordered the $9.99 unlimited
internet, first thing when i open
opera redirects me to m.web2go.com and says "Subscription Required" and the rest of the internet apps wont work.
the guy told me that this service only works with very basic phones like a
motorola razr v3..
but i got the service anyways, thinking that i may find trick that i can
cheat the system, well so far i havent found anything..
what i'm thinking is that i might have to change the firmware/hardware info
so the system would think i'm a basic phone not a smart phone and it would work.
i'm using the Energy "Leo" 21892 ROM, not unlocked sim phone.
--
i've heard that people with iphones cheat the system very easy
i know i'm not the only one with tp2 with tmobile trying to use their
$9.99 service.. hope we make clear a solution that would help
other users too.
i would apreciate any kind of help and might buy you a BEER hehe
Go into connection settings and edit the connection for T-Mobile Data.
And then change it to internet2.voicestream.com
I use it all the time. 3G.
wow, fast reply, how do i proceed to do that using
this ROM: Energy "Leo" 21892 ?
step by step, i just installed it
Alright.
Click on your settings folder.
and click connections
After that, click connections
And then it'll say T-Mobile Data.
Add
Set up
Manage.
Click on Manage, and then click on edit for T-Mobile Data and put in
internet2.voicestream.com
Let me know if I missed a step
wow it did work!!
now i have the following questions:
by doing this am i getting bandwith that a 3g for smartphone ( $29.99 ) gets?
is there any cheaper way to get a talk plan, i picked the 500 minutes/Month
and i dont think i'll ever be able to use all of them..
can i get the $9.99 with prepaid phone?
--
i used the app called wi-fi router, routes my data internet to my laptop via wi-fi that's amazing.. compared to the rip-off montly service to get your own mobile broadband card that goes up to 50 dollars a month with verizon/sprint/att
Since you have unlimited internet, just go ahead and get rid of talk plan and download Skype. You can have unlimted talk (US & Canada) for only $2.95 a month to landline and mobile phones. But if you also want a number of your chosing then you'll have to pay an extra $3 a month along with it. However, they do not have caller ID for unknown numbers (cost extra), unless they are already added to your contact list. Mobile Skype feature still needs to be worked on, but if your not interested then I hope you can find another way to get cheaper talk plan on tmobile itself.
I got two free TP2s from T-mobile with activation two months ago using the WMDeals special. Currently, I've got a 1500 minute plan with unlimited messaging, and two smartphone internet plans. Total is about $180 a month.
Can I call them and change the smartphone plans to $9.99 internet plans or how does that work?

I got a discount on my TP2, and part of that discount is that I use a certain data plan. They won't let you cancel that if your phone was discounted.
also, instead of using skype...
can i use google voice?
also... i have the even more plus plan...
$30 for 500 min... $10 web2go plan...
how do i go about dropping the $30 portion and converting to google voice/skype? they will drop it if i call them and ask?
This 9.99 service is called "internet for phones" yes? Does anyone know if this 9.99 monthly charge includes tethering?

Google voice is just a call forwarding service that reroutes your calls to any numbers you want. It does not work like skype.
would this be possible for at&t as well?

I tried tethering with wmwifirouter with this $10 plan on my TP2 but it didn't work. Not sure if there is a way around it or you just need $30 data plan.

You didn't get the best deal then..
I got that deal too and got 3 TP2s WITHOUT DATA OR TEXT plan. You really just need to know how to talk to the reps.
I did it again for someone else WITHOUT DATA, but had to get text.
Your chance realistically of lowering your data plan is SLIM, because they will ese you have a smart phone.
You have to pull some tricks to do that.. if you wish to know more, simply reply to this thread.

No longer working?
I tried this "internet2" thing a couple of months ago and it worked. I have since read some comments on the Net that it was no longer working. I just tried it again (even though I have the normal data plan and don't need it). I cannot connect to the internet with these settings.
I wonder if T-Mobile figured it out and cut out support? Maybe they can read forums...
does this apply to tmobile hd2?
I am using the 5.99 plan on my tp2. I just use epc.tmobile.com instead of the internet2. Still works. I was thinking of going to Sprint for the Evo but I was reading of the speeds possible with HSPA+ and I think I am just going to wait it out to get a phone possible of those speeds. I might get an HD2 from someone off of Craigslist just to hold me over.

T-Mobile Data Speed Cap Question

I have the mytouch and T mobile with unlimitied data plan..Today I wake up do a data wipe install cm7 and when it goes to download the gapps apps from the market it takes forever..I waited 35 minutes for it to download gmail and google maps..I stop the other downloads and try to figure why my apps are downloading slow and why my internet is snail slow..while wondering I get a text message from T mobile telling me I have used to much bandwith for the month cycle and I will have a data speed cap till next cycle....This would be alright but it is not as I can no longer download any market apps ( I can but it takes 30 minutes to an hour )Nor Can I really surf the web.(Took me 25 minutes to get here)Pandora nor slacker work anymore either.
Has anyone else had this happen to them ? Also is there anything I can do to get them to uncap my service..I have been a T mobile Customer for 11 years and think they should do something.Just wondering if anyone else had this problem......
Thanks
I've never had that problem, but then again my max DL per month has been at 1-2GB tops..
Try calling them, but check your bill first to see what they have you clocked at so far for the current billing period... I think they don't impose that on you till you hit +5GB... Good Luck.
I get that all the time, well not this past month because I finally got internet at the house lol. I used it for tethering and alot of internet & email & I would always seem to get it with 2 or less weeks left. I guess it's once you go over 5gb t-mobile slows you down.
I haven't actually had it happen YET, but when I went on the website, I noticed it said I was approaching the data cap... Never saw that before. D;
Thanks..I looked and I am at 5.09gb ..Looks like I am slowed till the 23rd..I dont tether so it must have been from slacker / pandora ..I will have to watch it more next month..
You can download t-mobile's 'my account' app from the market so you can keep a closer eye on your data usage, although, if you have unlimited data plan you can't set an alert for it, even though 5gb is the cap...
I get close to 3-4gb every month and never notice a slow down...I can understand a cap of 5gb to keep the network from being overloaded...I thether and use it to watch HULU and nightly roms so cant see going over, unless something crazy.
... Doesn't make sense.. I'm paying $30/month for "unlimited"... just to get capped?
it does make sense.. u "read" it and signed it. its all in the contract so yes the data is unlimited but once 5gigs is reached in one billing cycle its cap'd to run 2g/edge until the cycle refreshes. it use to be 10gig max but with the recent explosion of smart/data phones the demand for bandwidth and speed are at an all time high. i also learned this the hardway.. now i use wifi anywhere i can to limit my data usage. but even then its still hits 4gigs a month. its mainly a problem for us that use our phones as primary internet.
Use wifi as much as possible. I am fortunate enough to have wifi at work and home and my data usage on tmo's network is ridiculously low for the amount of data I use.

No,
it does not make sense to people that signed an unlimited data plan in 2009, the changes for data cap were made on the new contract July 18, 2010. I know that Tmobile reserves the right to make changes, but they also state that they are suppose to give a 30 day notice. Did anyone receive such notice in data changes? I don't think so. You all can say well is insane to spend more than 5gb of data, but you have to understand that many people use their phone a lot and id their right to be upset when they signed an "UNLIMITED" plan and then is changed without prior notice.
also be aware that T Mobile slows you down to 54kbs. Welcime back Dial Up!!!

like i said, technicaly they dont make it not unlimited.. they just cap the speed, so yes it does make sense.. u signed up for unlimited data not unlimited data at its peak speed, that just sounds retarded. if you signed up before the change then you shouldve requested to be grandfatherd and they wouldve been happy to keep the customer happy. and fyi a news letter and disclaimer was put out for all pre existing customers before the change was made. and even then they didnt change the unlimited part. ill leave this the way i leave any other service provider discussion...., ive been with tmob since sidekick original no color.. not once did they treat me wrong or charge me for something i wasnt responsible for and aware of. i dont recommend but there is an alternative.. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and even Metro all got u covered.
good day.
I think it ok to note that this is not only a T-Mobile thing, every carrier does this. I know that there is a hack on XDA that is built into the MIUI roms that actually cuts off the signal that your phone sends to Verizon that you have reached the cap so you never see your data slowed down. I do not know how they wrote the hack or if it is possible to do something similar with a t-mobile phone, but it might be worth looking into.

... Doesn't make sense.. I'm paying $30/month for "unlimited"... just to get capped?

you are paying for unlimited data because you get unlimited data - they just don't guarantee at what speed you'll be able to download at...
I completely understand your predicament! I was in your same shoes.
T-Mobile does not charge extra for anything more than 5gb, but they do make you eat your buffet food through a straw! Now, I remedied my problem with the wonderful program 3g Watchdog, which is free. Set it to your monthly cycle, and you can even place a widget with usage on your screen. Very handy little program.
So yes, I tried calling and talking with the reps, nothing will work. I spoke with managers, and people from India. They can't do anything about it. I couldn't even pay them more money! How ridiculous! But alas, I had to see the bright side. Looking at AT&T or Verizon, you have limits of 2gb or so and then they charge you for anything over that. Screw that! So I figured if I'm downloading 5gb of data in a month, then I need to get my ass together and make my life work for me. So please figure out your **** lol, you'll feel so much better when you do.

No,
it does not make sense to people that signed an unlimited data plan in 2009, the changes for data cap were made on the new contract July 18, 2010.

That ssssssssssucks!
I went to T-mobile store last week to pay my bill, the man told me about the upgrade discount after a year, when we reached the 4G topic I asked about this slow down of speed after 5Gb and he was like he had no idea, he repeated "Noou, it's unlimited" "that what you heard is for those with plans of certain data limit"
I told him that's what it should be, I said it wouldn't make sense to have such high-speed and still be limited :S
Serously! I'm paying $-freaking-30 monthly for internet access that is like 1mb of speed on this lil' phone, same as it would be using a DSL, why would they put a limit?
Tmo-guy- Because it's a wireless service-
Me: My ass! that ain't no reason!
Again makes no sense....

Its people like you who make the system slow for everyone. Why do you think att is so ****ty? Its because too many people are using their iphone for everything. Simple supply and demand. Tethering should be used as needed when no other internet service is avalible. I for one like the cap and I welcome it to a charging alternative. Its like any other provider. If you get greedy you should get punnished.

Why should there be such capabilities offered if that's going to bring out risky complications to the system?
That's not reason to call one greety and 'punish'
Is not like one would like to reach a cap just because it can be done and bother other's connections.
Tethering is not as different as using your phone, since our smartphones' web browser is as fully capable as a computer web browser.
Also think of the 4G + What's next??
If one service imprubes why not the others that can prevent issues from the same.
A page loads trice as fast, makes the user able to go on where others would stop, so you see it's not a malicious intention but what the user is led up to.
