Has Any one found a program or hack that aloows you to close the running programs when you hit the little X ? It seems simple but Im not sure why they made it so they still run when you close the program for all of the applications. When I pess the X I'm done what about you all?

Many people have found many ways of doing it. A search will open this world up to you.
Here's a good way to do it though:

As I said, there are other ways, it may be in your interest to get a wider opinion before diving in to smclose.

Thanks thats what I was looking for I will let you know how it works.
I use one called Close All. Basically a red X that when executed will close all running apps. Very handy. Much quicker than Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs>Stop All.
I've tried a lot of these and all suffer the problem of not being able to close the phone dialer and most bork some how. ActiveSync can also be a pain closing, but some tools are better than others.
My personal favs are:
vbar: http://www.vieka.com/vbar.htm
magicbutton: http://www.trancreative.com/mb.aspx
I've stuck with magicbutton til I find something that reliably closes the apps above and provides it's simplicity and functionality. I use the battery meter it provides as I have the systray off (until I find something remotely useful for that area). Also I can hide dialer and async and also set them to keep alive, which both keeps them happy and me not seeing them unless I want to
Anyways, plenty of choices, most can be found on google using a search phrase like "pocketpc task manager" or ppc... etc. Gl.
any programs that could be customized (we can choose) whether if we like to close it or just minimize it?
eg: for file explorer if we tap close button then it will close the application, but for messaging if we tap close button then it only minimize it.
yeah many pda programs dont like being terminated in that way
doing it just after sending a sms is giving ppl problems with 2 sms's sendt and sms iron not going away from the title bar
other programs would prob also act up thinking of data not being saved correct
since i suspect some pda programs only really save in when they are closed the normal way as in by the OS
I did try the magicbutton and it seem to work better than the smclose I havnt tried the other yet let know and thanks for the help all this is a great source of information for the 8125 and htc phones.
Thumbs way up!!!!
Vap: VJOkButt has a specific mode for closing the phone, -phclose.
It will close the phone, but it's not advisable to close the phone because it introduces a minor incompatibility - trying to dial from the contacts app will cause problems. However, if you never do this, it'll save you a few 100k.
I've also written two apps specifically to close the phone, I think one if VJPhoneToggle or something.
Again, closing activesync is not advisable because if you're connected through GPRS/Wifi etc, it'll hangup your connection. In most use the app will be hidden from view anyway. VJOkButt ignores ActiveSync.

Just thought I would start a thread for problems/annoyances people have noticed with the upgrade to WM6 (RUU_Excalibur_TMO_US_1.22.531.4_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Ship.exe)
Here is a start for me:
- The memory leak problem is just as bad as the beta I installed over a month ago.
- The homescreen reverts back to the TMobile Default Blue on a soft reset (you must rename to fix)
- The registry hack to disable the beep when you initiate a call doesn't seem to work (didn't work for me in the beta either)
Not sure what you mean by 'memory leak', but I found deleting the Voice Command shortcut from the startup folder frees up a lot of memory. Personally, I find the number 1 feature of Voice Command to be frustration, so I don't need it loading at bootup.

Try renaming the tmobile default blue homescreen xml to something else, or delete it outright. Im pretty sure thats the homescreen that defaults back when you restart the phone. I would like to state for the record that I have octrotalk installed, and have customized my homescreen with octrotalk. It essentially creates a new homescreen with all the plugins from the current and adds octrotalk to the new one, setting it. When I restart my phone it always comes up as my octrotalk screen, regardless of how the restart was done (battery removal, smarttoolkit restart, whatever.) Additionally I don't have any memory leak issues. I run quite a few apps at a time, word, excel, IE, octrotalk, outlook, a few games in and out, occasionally zatelnet, and the filemanager. I also generally close all apps Im not using anymore, but when I close all the apps I opened to run, I usually recapture around 12megs free ram. When I start up from fresh boot, Im at just under 15 megs. Atfter closing apps in the default wm5 tmobile rom, I would usually end up with 9-10 free megs.
Unless someone else can confirm that the official rom does this same stuff, I feel like you may not have upgraded your rom.
I'm having problems with mail since upgrading to WM6. I can only reveive my .mac mail, I can't send out. I've tried everything to fix it, changed the ports on the smtp setup on the Dash and still can't send out mail. This is so frustrating! I didn't have this problem in the WM6 Beta or WM5.
I'm getting absolutely no email on my wife's dash after this new ROM. I try to set up the email and at first I get a warning about Roaming (I'm not). And then it just refuses to connect to download her emails from our POP3 account.
It' so strange these email problems we're having. I am not having any problems with gmail, or aol for sending and receiving, only my .mac mail (I can only receive, not send email). I rely on this as it's my main email client. I never had any problems before the "official upgrade".
Are you all using the T-Zones plan with the jury-rigged proxy settings? That might explain it. They're moving towards T-Zones being available via the WAP browser and widdling away at other features being accessable without paying for different service levels...
im just so glad there is a forum for the dash/excalibur here instead of mixing it with the MDA like HowardForums.
Over there there is about 2million "official" threads thare are never official to begin with. lol
If I use T-Zones button and go through the wap browser and go to my email I can send and receive fine within the t-zones wap browser. The problem is with the messaging app itself that won't let me send out email with my .mac account. Even if I have the phone turned off and am using WiFi I still get "the message cannot be sent" errors.
What else can I remove from the running programs to free up memory?
I don't use the voice command either. I would like to use the live messenger but it takes up so much memory.
I wish I could just take memory off my memory card and use it as phone memory.. Or even have a option like pocket pcs do and use the program memory as system memory...
Grrr I hate havin a laggy phone, reminds me of XP on a 266mhz computer..

I use PowerControl+OMAP from http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/DashApps.htm to overclock my phone. It overclocks the processor to 240mhz when its in use and throttles it down to 180mhz when its in standby.
There is another issue with Windows Media Player and streaming Video (e.g Orb, Videos from Windows Media Mobile, etc) where the screen rotates 90 degrees when you zoom the video to full screen.
It's been tracked on this tread:

i made a post on howard forums with the things i dont like on WM6 for the dash .... http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1156952
What you describe is how T-Zones work -- if you pay more, you can do mail within the messaging app. If you pay $5.99, you can do mail via the WAP browser. Which service plan do you have?

It should have nothing to do with me having the T-Zones $5.99 plan I can send and receive with aol, and gmail with the plan, only receive with .mac, I can't even send out mail using WiFi. I was on the phone with T-Mobile today and they tried troubleshooting. They said that for some reason the smtp is getting blocked with my .mac account, they think I should call Apple. I even asked if it had anything to do with me being on the T-Zones plan, and the rep said no, it should work through WiFi since I'm not using T-Mobile's network.

The "Problem with the homescreen reverting back" is not a WM6 problem, it's a My Faves (My 5) feature. Basically, every time you turn your phone on, the My5 service detects whether you have MyFaves and changes your homescreen to the proper setting. The settings for this are saved in the registry.
The location is:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\My5\Homescreen
There are two values, On and Off. Just change those to your homescreen, or try removing them altogether (haven't tried that yet).
You could also try removing the My5MsgCenter.lnk from the startup folder, but I don't know if that's the one that reads from that registry key
ha, for some reason chaznet takes every opportunity to bash the 5.99 tzones plan. i have it now with wm6, i can go to every website, i can check my hotmail by going to www.hotmail.com, and the internet seems even faster than with wm5. so it still works, and it doest seem like its going away anytime soon

Deleting the Homescreen Registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\My5\Homescreen" Key Worked!
Hi there,
I just got myself the Touch Pro2, having been a user of the Touch Diamond for somewhile and enjoyed that phone. However, I have been having some challenges with the TouchPro 2 and questions and am hoping that someone here could help
1. The task manager at the top right corner. This usually lists the programs that are running. However, with the TP2, I noticed that once Opera is loaded, it does not show up there but is still running. So if I want to close Opera, I am not sure how to as previously, I just needed to click on the "x" next to it. The other program that is behaving in the same manner is ActiveSync. It does not show up there either. Has anyone have the same issue?
2. When I try to add contacts to the people tab, it will bring up the list of contacts with a alphabetical index on the right side. However, when I click on any of the alphabets, say "D", it does not bring me to my contacts starting with "D" but rather to somewhere in the middle of "C". This goes the same for any alphabets. Does anyone have the same prob?
Thanks!
For your first question
Some apps aren't meant to be closed like the phone app or activesync. They always run in the background. As for Opera, I don't know, but maybe it's neccesary for the push internet thingy to work?

I could close the activesync in my diamond previously but not in TP2.
Hmm.... push internet, it could be a reason but still find it odd that it's not listed as an item on the task manager.
Magic Button
Did a hard reset and going through the painful process of setting everything up. I did keep a .doc file with all my settings in it, and that has helped. One annoying problem though.
Opera is very strange. Mobile websites do not appear as they normally do. They come up very small, and I have to zoom and center them in to be able to read them. Anyone know a setting to ensure that Opera sees a mobile website as a mobile website?
Some are working fine. m.cnn.com is ok, others such as m.google.com show up incredibly small and do not fit the screen as they normall do.
Any suggestions? Thanks.
Settings>Display>Click "Mobile View"
You are a rock star. I could not figure that out at 1.00 am.
Thanks!
JG
On a related note, I cant seem to figure out how to make links in emails open up in opera. I changed the registry setting, and the manilla settings, but links in emails still open in IE.
I love my htc hd7 love wp7 am a big supporter, I want this os to succeed, I just can't wait for multitasking and apps running in the background. Sometimes it is so aggravating how long it takes to reload web pages, facebook, foursquare, ANYTHING that im doing when i leave the app to do something else and come back to it, its like the first time i ever open the app and i sit there and watch it reload the web page, restart facebook, it just gets old after awhile, on winmo 6.5 i would bounce everywhere between apps, texts, web it was great
anyone else feel this way
There's plenty of discussion about multitasking already on these forums. I don't see why we need another thread about it. Clearly it bothers a lot of people.
