HTC Touch Diamond II - ROM Porting - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV ROM Development

HI Guyz,
- [ "Who will be the first to port over the new HTC TD2 ROM to TD1?" ] -
Any one preparing to make an attempt?
I will be interested to test

I don't think that would be any time too soon, the phone is expected for release in Q2 2009 so that means it is going to be available starting April (if we are lucky). A retail ROM would be nice but I don't think that would be any time soon either

the main problem is not the same resolution.
reaaly nice phone TD2 i see it has few new feqturew(new options when you are in a call) and what i like is zooming on it(only saw on pictures havent triee it yet).

{closed topic 19 Nov}Official HTC/ATT US Rom off line or being upgraded?

The official HTC/ATT US Rom has been off line at HTC's Support thread for the last three days. I wounder if their is a newer ROM getting ready to come out.
Back up Now
I contacted them about it and they replied that it's a server error but the only thing I can think of is that the release file name no longer matches the link in the support download area of their site. Time will tell. I'll update this when I get a confirmation or the link starts working again.
New File Location
ftp://att8525rom:[email protected]/RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
I believe that there were a few posts regarding the AT&T rom, they had an announcement that the ROM is going to be posted for only a limited time, Although i am not sure if it is until the 18th or not.
On the site it says it will be available from November 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008.
Linkage ftp://att8525rom:[email protected]_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exehttp://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html
i saved it on my hard drive if any one needs it.
Yes I have it also but was just surprising to see that the file is off line for the last 2 days. Could mean an update is coming I hope that may fix some of the problems many have been having. I have been useing the official ROM for about 2 weeks now in Florida and it's been running really well with no problems in radio except maybe a little less signal than what I had before running WM5 with radio 1.4x.
Anyway just started this thread as a means to keep an eye on the official to see what goes with it.
I also downloaded and now using the official wm6 from htc. I like it but no msn home anymore? gotta go online to check my hotmail? sucks! still no youtube streaming. other than that I like it a lot. I called htc just the other day and they said their site link is down because they are waiting for user reviews on it to release the final version in just a few weeks for the htc hermes/8525. they said the final release in a few weeks should fix any or at least some of the bugs in the pre wm6 release they put out for a short time.
I hope it's sooner rather than later and bug fixes are always welcome. I'm sure if they patch it up the cooks will be much happier around here. They are all great and their offerings are fantastic but if the code you get to work with is buggy from the start it makes life a lot harder to get out a stable and error free ROM. Not to mention all the time the Cooks put in patching the bad code they get from the officially released versions by HTC. [I'm trying to compliment all the cooks here if it doesn't sound like it your not getting my point ]
Looking to the future...
yep, I hear u. always nice to have a custom rom for ur personal needs. I just like to stick wit the legit version so when my phone bricks ill get a new one under warranty. these things cost too much to buy another one.
As of this morning it's still off line no change in the page yet.
Well it's back online now and no change in the file name so I guess not an update.
Consider this thread dead for now.

What ROM development can we expect from HTC?

My Diamond is my first HTC phone so I don't have any experience of how long they actively develop ROMs for their phones.
We're now on 1.93.x.x which is the basis for all the great cooked ROMs on this forum, but are HTC likely to release a major ROM upgrade for the Diamond which the chefs can work with - or does everyone think that 1.93.x.x will be the last official release?
its anyone's guess...
I remembered the o2 atom was way past its used by date... then out of the blue someone hacked WM6.1 to run on it unofficially...
same might be done when the HTC HD comes out...
i saw the clips on it... TF3D was running smooth as butter... with no choppyness / frame rate drop...
hopefully we'll get an 'official' firmware update... (since the hardware is the same more or less?)
if not there's the TF2D section in the xda hacking area... and rom cookers are always improving on rom speed
I had an iphone prior to changing to the touch diamond... there's more potential in this phone than apples...

HTC Hero To Get Android 2.1 In March

All you early adopters of the Euro HTC Hero, the one with the chin, now have something to smile about. A representative of Irish mobile operator Meteor has tipped of the guys at EURODROID that they received a notice from HTC that they should expect and update to Android 2.1 sometime in March.

a) Very, very, very old news that Hero was getting a 2.1 update.
b) Old (and bad) news that we may have to wait until March!
Regards,
Dave
It is bad to wait till march.. but it is good news that we get a update
hope that the file transfer by bluetooth is possible then...
uhoh... not sure if i can wait that long. the only problem is that i have the super-duper kernel that needs the goldcard downgrade method and it seems too overwhelming for the moment. damn.
guess i'll get my 2.1 in two months time!
Well, it just gets pushed forward one month at the time. Wonder if it will ever arrive
when it arrives, it better be worth the wait!

Its actually not that difficult. Download the required apps and you can just breeze through the how-to in about 20 mins.
if you read the article well, it says we're gonna get 2.0, not 2.1

if you keep reading he updates it and adds that it will actually be 2.1
little question here
These guys are unbelievable, they said that the update will be available in february, now it'll be in march last days, in march the would say that its delayed to june, and so on.
so i have a question, with the hero kernel sources and the android sources, why there isnt a full working aosp ROM out there? without sense and all that stuff that makes the device laggy. There is any kind of difficulty at this point?
cheers
No one actually really said it was going to be Feb it was just a rumour. This source seems stronger however until HTC officially say something we will never know.
I am with the spoken provider and I wouldn't necessary believe in everything what they say. They are very bad with handling customer queries, this was given as an answer to few particular problems with Hero on Meteor network.
They were saying that it will be getting 2.0 but after some user said that there won't be any 2.0 update for Hero they came up with 2.1 in March. Go and figure it out yourself.
loooooooolll oh god...
february...
or 15 february .. or 3q 2010 or march
or 2.1 update or 2.0 update ...
rumours.. just rumours...
hero isnt getting no new update from htc... stick to 1.5 or root it and install the customs 2.1 ...
dont dream people
In July , hero will be 1 year-old device.
maybe , htc is just releasing rumors , and then they won´t update and release the hero sucessor ( i hope it´s fake , i love my hero )
sorry my bad english .
PS : This is what i think .

That's absurd! The leaked 2.0 build with SenseUI proves that they are working on it.
Regards,
Dave
They need updated HTC drivers to make everything work properly. until HTC release their 2.1 rom, or something is leaked, we can't have a fully working 2.1 rom.
I can say with 100% certainty that the 2.1 ROM will released when it's released, if it's released In other words, I'm not going to hold my breath.

Help deciding - HTC Desire vs Nexus One

Hi,
First time posting on the forum but I have been following it for many months now and find it very helpful so thank you.
I am about to make the move from Touch Diamond 2 to either the HTC Desire or the Nexus One but I would like some help from the people on the forum in making the decision
Reasons to buy HTC Desire:
1) cheaper (with contract in France)
2) Sense UI - not mandatory but I am used to it from the Diamond2
3) Prefer buttons and optical trackball (I think but have not touched either device yet)
4) Sense UI allows me to Synch Exchange Calendar which would be important (but I know the N1 can use the Touchdown App)
Reasons to buy Nexus One:
1) Will get Android updates faster
So my big question is should I really be so worried at the speed that HTC will release the new Android updates (I have read that 2.2 might be available as of May 17th - but it is not yet clear what will be included)?
My biggest fear is that I will buy the HTC Desire and it will be stuck on 2.1 for the next year and the Nexus One will keep getting more and more features added. I have been reading about how the HTC Hero users are still waiting to get either 2.0 or 2.1 for months and would not like to be in the same boat if I can avoid it.
I have also been reading how the Desire can now be routed so should I put my faith in the XDA developers to keep the Desire updated even if HTC doesn't do it on their own? I have not tried routing and using the Custom Roms yet (on my Diamond2) but am willing to give it a try if needed on the Desire.
Thanks for anyone who can give me some advise on this purchase.

Get a Desire.......Now that it's rooted you're gonna get updates due to the fantastic work on XDA and modaco. Period. Its a no Brainer man!
Regards
Mo
Thank you, That is how I was feeling but I wanted to be reassured
I guess I will just have to learn how to Root update the Desire with out bricking it. Luckily I have also been learning Linux the past few years as it looks like that is also necessary for the rooting.
Thanks for the feedback

[Poll][Community effort]Best way to tell HTC that Desire is lacking updates?!

Hey all!
- So.. we want sense 2.0 right?
- We want Gingerbread right?
- MS Exchange support in Mail client (add account fails..)?
- Maybe a fix for the SMS not sending the sms to the recipient (rare.. but known, see the thread for Desire's bugs)
... I propose we create a common message to HTC asking for updates.
My main reason for this is the same lame answer everyone gets after emailing them for a certain update/fix.
We always get the "we don't know when" or "HTC makes sure you have the latest blah blah blah.."
Let's make a stand and say to HTC we don't want them to be like other companies that don't update "older" models!
Desire's hardware can - surely - withstand Gingerbread + Sense, Sense 2.0 and more..
The specs aren't near old enough not to have the latests features Android has to offer!
So.. with that in mind maybe you could unite our efforts and take a common action..
I'm suggesting the ones in the poll.. have another idea?
Update:
!PANDA as suggested sending the link to this thread to HTC.. so plz leave a reply
Once loads of people have voted, we all e-mail htc with the link to this poll, so they'll actually see this as most of the time they just send us templates.
The same has been done with the 1.24.161.3 vodafone update (just update, no poll used)
That is all. Good Bye.
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDApp. Pure Madness.
Of course it doesn't hurt to ask them for further support I think it is still to soon to say they won't support us. I think we will get an upgrade to gingerbread, maybe even with sense 2.0 (which I think is the biggest obstacle because the rom is so large otherwise it should run fine( and it does on my phone))
It took them 3 months to port froyo...

We already have the first 2 on your list - look through the first 2 pages of the 'Desire Android Development' thread....
My experience is that HTC do whatever HTC want to do. They would much rather have you spend some more $$ on a new device than pour effort into updating/supporting your old one. Now I'm not saying that's how it should be, just saying that's how it is.
That's why this place is so valuable - people spend the time and effort to provide stuff HTC (and others) never intended you to have.
Gotta love XDA Devs
Good luck with your idea tho.

Er..
It is too soon to have gingerbread.. of course it is!
But what about the messaging thing? Has it ever happened to you? It's kinda bothering to send something you wrote to your girlfriend and have it delivered to your boss.. Who knows he might like it or he might sue you for sexual harassment..
JK, but seriously, there's little things that should be fixed.
For example showing the sms you sent as a reply before the sms that originated the reply..
The ms exchange mail thing..
I believe they will take a while to give us 2.3 and we have to understand that Sense is a very good GUI (the best I've experienced so far..) because it is well programmed and tested. So HTC is just "protecting" their image by taking three months to port the new version of Android.
But look for example the case of Sony Ericson saying 2.1 is too good already and future updates shouldn't be expected.. Sure their costumers replied back.. and now they're getting 2.2 on some models.. (We'll see..)
My point here is that by requesting fixes and updates we are showing that we are satisfied costumers and want it to continue that way. So in a month or two, if there's no 2.3 for Desire maybe we can have this thread to show dis contempt..
(And by the way.. Sense 2.0 isn't that big of an obstacle.. it's already working entirely in Desire's NAND.. just have a look at some DHD ROMs ports to Desire in the Development section.. Saying that Sense 2.0 won't fit in Desire's NAND is saying that XDA has better chefs than HTC... lol )

Don't get me wrong, I'm also that focused. But if you end up with a bricked phone it kinda.. no longer works..
I was thinking that the DHD ports has sense running too.... so we just need HTC to allow us to connect to htcsense.com with a DHD port too!
I want the mail app fixed so it works with hotmail eas... surely its a small bug fix...

This poll equates to the following:
"Hi BMW,
I bought a 3 series last year with a 2-litre engine and I now see you have a 2.5-litre engine. When can I book in my new engine?"
Bit extreme, I know, but HTC don't have to update the Desire to anything. They're a business and they release new phones with new software. We might get it, we might not
That can be true in car business. But smart phone making is different. And when you buy car you are not only buying finished product but in most cases also 1, 2, 3, 5 year guarantee that include replace car, tow service, help on road if yours car stops obedience. Bmw also has free maintenance for first 100.000km or 5 years. Every business has its rules. And we as buyers of smartphones we set them. So, i ll buy my next phone from company that will offer me at least 2 years of updates. Thats the reason i don’t buy samsung anymore. Hope i don’t need to search for new manufacture. I like htc. But updates are important to me.

Not just to you. HTC should provide the official updated, and although you can say that we already 'have' them, you shouldn't really have to root the phone to have them. A phone like our Desire ain't cheap, we should at least get HTC's service as well as the product. So far, we've had the product, and in most cases very good product, but the updates arn't here, which sometimes makes Nokia look better: me and other members sent them an e-mail regarding an update with kinetik scrolling etc, it happened withing a couple of weeks! Come on HTC, Nokia knows how to listen to its customers, so if you want us to stay loyal, you have to be loyal to us.
That is all. Good Bye.

I'm fine with buying a new phone when the updates will no longer go on them.
I flashed my HTC Touch HD with WinMo6.5.3 to make sure it was updated when I found HTC wouldn't push out anymore updates... I'm just waiting for that point when HTC won't push any updates out, or they won't fit on anymore then I'll probably be rooting and flashing...
I purchased my Desire in about July 2010 for around £390 - that's the most I've paid for a phone and I don't intend giving it up just yet...

However, some people can not afford to buy new phones, just make the most if what they've got, but HTC will not even do that! Okay, Froyo wasn't that bad for the unbranded devices, but why shoul our providers get the updates to brand them?! People who don;t know what branding is etc, will think that HTC is just not as good as other phones, Nokia for example- no barnding, and although there may be some on the case of the phone, no Software Branding. Therefore, updates are pushed a lot quicker!
Back to the point, people like me want to make sure that they get as much as they can for what we pay, and for that reason, I don't think that HTC is as helpful as they can be.
That is al. Good Bye.
Desire / Nexus S
If HTC makes an update ill buy desire if not ill buy Nexus S, maybe........maybe not......ohh i LOVE the htc sense and i want a phone with the sense so i wont buy Nexus S.......Maybe desire z? but it has the keyboard problems and i dont need a keyboard.....ill buy desire (the normal one) and ill flash a cooked rom with 2.3 and the new sense, if possible...

Don't underestimate the power of the Dark side, Luke!
It's only a script.. if we lived in an utopia HTC would just release the next OTA with it..
data2sd, app2sd+ script can create the partition and even align it.. http://www.patriotmemory.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3696
Maybe even with reiserFS partitions for faster access, but I think the dev's are getting to the conclusion that not all SDs work well with reiserFS.. so EXT3
