Hi guys,
I'm trying to run a regedit program on my 02 XDA 11s.
I have tried several, and when I try to run the setup or exe I get the following message:
"There is no application associated with SETUP. Run the application first then open this file from within the application"
Any ideas, it must be something simple as I have tried several different programs and all experience this problem.
Thanks in advance,
Rob.
whats the file type ?
cab
exe if it's exe you should make sure it's not a pc activesync install
if it's zip
or rar
you should make sure that you have a unpacker for those 2
I think the program I tried to run was not for my mobile device.
Is there a stand-alone regedit program avaiable that I can download.
Thanks,
Rob.

Many thanks.
I think I need to connect via the Sync cable and use the ActiceSync cable as most applications seem to have to be installed this way.
Thanks,
Rob.
This newest ROM from HTC includes Esmertec Java Jeodek 20070425.1.1 built in as part of the ROM.
I have successfully installed Opera Mini and have it working through this version of Java as well as via a shortcut (28#"\windows\jeodek.exe" -run s0_) and it launches Opera just fine.
I am having two issues:
1) I cannot get the selector.utf to work to disable or suppress the two connection warnings from Opera
I've tried a hex editor changing
domain=untrusted, \
to
domain=tckmax , \
domain=trusted , \
to no avail. I even tried a fix.exe application which was specifically written to change the domain=untrusted, \ entry properly. It just doesn't work and I am starting to think that it has something to do with the Esmertec Java Jeodek being in the ROM from HTC.
... so
2) I tried to install Cloudyfa_EsmertecJbed, but it won't install ... I get an error message "installation of Cloudyfa_EsmertecJbed.cab was unsuccessful.
im running the cloudfa java on the new rom and it installed perfectly. i couldnt get the shortcut to work though and i havent tried to change the selector.utf file yet

Could you elaborate a bit on anything that you might have done, which would have enabled the successful install of the cloudyfa java?
I have tried SurrealNetworksAppUnlock & SDA Application Unlock and still can't get it to install.
Basically, I load the 1.33 ROM (the one from December, 2007 - we are talking about the same ROM, correct?) and immediately, without doing anything else to the phone, I try to install cloudyfa java and it fails, then I tried after installing the two unlockers I mentioned ... still get the same error.
I don't have any trouble getting other software to install ... very unusual.
i didnt even install the app unlock programs. and yes im using the same rom. did you try installing on the device instead of storage card? or vice versa?

I really appreciate the follow-up and the post. Your response got me thinking about more about my install process, as opposed to some type of incompatability.
Turns out, the CAB file had gotten corrupted in the transfer from my pc to the phone. I deleted the file on the microSD card, copied it over again and it installed perfectly fine; as you indicated it would.
Posting from my dash, using (full-screen) Opera-mini, under the new HTC ROM & cloudyfa Java.
Thanks for the help!

yes, perfectly ! Java starts up and runs Opera-Mini, unprompted. I also got the selector.utf mod to permit connecting without warning/prompt.
cool stuff, to be sure
Anyone know a way to get rid of the 2 connection security question when opera mini starts? in beta it worked to set untrusted to tckmax, but it doesnt work anymore.

With the java included on the DASH, I was not able to get tckmax to work. If I use a different java, one that I have installed, it works ... at least for me.
Have you tried it with a version of java that you installed, as opposed to the java included with the ROM?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but a forum search revealed nothing...
How do I install .NET 3.5 on my Touch HD?
I have installed Advanced Congif , and it tells me i need to install .NET in order for it to work.
I downloaded the .net redistributable file from the MS website (filename is NETCFSetupv35.msi), but when I try to run it on my HD as I would with a .cab file, it tells me there's no associated program to run it.
I guess it has to be installed some other way (through ActiveSync maybe?), but I don't know.
Any helpful soul out there care to put me out of my misery?
Cheers in advance
Pete
Yes it has to be done through Activesync.
run it on your pc, and it will install on your device (or next time you connect if you're not connected when you run it)
It says on the microsoft download page...:
This package uses ActiveSync 4.0 to update the device. Before running NETCFSetupv35.msi, connect your device to your PC. If your device is not connected, ActiveSync will store the CAB file and will not install the package until you connect. If you are not using ActiveSync, run the CAB files on the device that correspond to the device–specific CAB files found in the install folder.
and
Instructions
Click the Download button on this page to start the download, or choose a different language from the drop-down list and click Change.
Do one of the following:
To start the installation immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location.
To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.

I did not use ActiveSync to install it. I can't remember where I found it, but it has some kind of "Microsofts digital signature", so I think it's the right one...

Thanks!
Thanks guys,
sorted, using the .cab (couldn't work out how to do it with Activesync).
Can't install :-(
Nooo! I have a problem...
I had some trouble with .NET CF 3.5, and then I wanted to reinstall it, but when I uninstalled it, and then tried to install it again, it didn't work.
It doesn't work through ActiveSync AND the cab. Do anyone know whats wrong here, or do I need to start a new thread?
Is your ActiveSyns up to date? And did you download the file from the mircosoftsite? I reïnstalled the file yesterday..

My ActiveSync is okay, and the cab is from the microsoft site...
EDIT:I think something is wrong with my phone, but I don't want to do a Hard reset.
Installed no problem if you use your PC to get the CAB just pop in onto the memory card, bung it in your phone and using file explorer locate file and install onto your device. Easeeee
Even easier would be to use PIE and visit this site/thread and follow the link to download directly onto phone then do above in File Explorer

.NET 3.5 cab
bro,
.NET 3.5 is available as cab for direct installation on to your phone. Copy in to your phone / storage card and install in phone memory. I have installed on my HD stock rom and works fine. Here it is .... hope this will help, this is my first response to a mail and hope what i do is right. thanks Dr Shaheed
i recently upgraded to wm6.1 on my tilt. all the software downloaded and install fine except for hhc customizer. when i try to extract the file i get an error about the archive. from everything ive found this means the file is corrupt. is there anyway to get a clean verion of this? could someone maybe email a copy of the file? i try to go to the pocket emu site and download but the page will not open. today the site is down altogether. i had this program with 6.0 and loved it. would really likesome insight on how to do this. a clean non corrupt file emailed to me would be great provided you can install from an emailed file like that. my yahoo is [email protected]
thanks in advance
Hi. I just recently purchased an HTC Touch Pro2 from T-Mobile running WinMo 6.5. That being said, I have not been able to open any cab files on the device to install some software. Basically I'll transfer the cab to the device and attempt to open it. I get one of three messages depending on the app I guess. the most basic is "Installation was unsuccessful" to "Installation was unsuccessful. The program or setting...not digitally signed...trusted certificate" (this was from MobileFTPClient). Installing Opera Mini 5 gives a simple: "Installation of mini5wm.cab was unsuccessful".
Ok, so being a software developer for 10 years I've been looking into some registry values and can't seem to find what I need to get anything to install. If I download from the Windows Marketplace that's all good, but nothing else.
What do I need to do to be able to install cab flils directly? Honestly if I can't get this to work this phone is going back. I moved from an iPhone to this phone specifically so I can install apps and monkey around with the device, but so far I'm done before I started.
Thanks for any info you can give me.
its in one of your phone/device settings to let u download and install apps or cabs not digitally signed. thats all, i believe. just find it and check it off. or look for advanced config cab if u can find it and install that. it has an option in there also to let u download/install whatever..

The cab I have attached may help you...it's some SDK certificates that will allow installation of certain unsigned apps, but I don't know if this is what the ones you're running are requiring and missing. It won't harm anything to try this one, and you can easily uninstall it if it doesn't do the trick
Thanks guys. Sirphunkee - that cab actually installed, but I'm having the same problem. Another forum has suggested that I take the device back to T-Mobile, but it just seems like there's a setting that's not right in the OS. Demandarin - I've looked for various security permissions in the UI with no luck. I've mucked around with some Policy values in the registry per some threads on this forum, but still nothing.
I'll keep trying, and thanks.
So...weird; Opera Mini and Weather Bug (well known apps) wouldn't install, but an SMS notification disable cab installed (from the xda site) as did Evernote (evernote.com). I have no clue what the deal is, but it's getting beyond stupid that I can't install just any cab file.

Have you already installed .Net 3.5? It's a framework that many other programs use (and need) to install, and it's not on the TP2 by default...it's the only other think I could think of that would keep you from installing stuff. Cab is attached, if you don't have it already.
Got it. I installed the Device Security Manager PowerToy and was able to change the configuration there. Opera Mini 5 just installed.
Never would have thought the phone would come that locked down, but so far so good. Thanks for all of the ideas.

Well yeah what's weird is that I never had to use that to get any of those apps installed
