For me it would be the fact that it STILL has
the same greyish, blocky scrollbars as Windows 3.1 had....
You'd imagine they would have revamped those by now...
That is a minor quibble. Personally I do not see anything wrong with WM6... yet.
Most of us here are still happy that at least we are getting WM6
If anything I had a bit of quibble with Opera and its interaction with WM5\WM6 but then again, that is a software issue.
Yeah, if that's all you have to complain about in WM6, I think you're LOOKING for things to complain about.
Like the "Error Syncronizing" problem in Outlook, that no one but me seems to have seen; or the Calendar problem where Month is always the default view, no matter what's chosen in Options... These are legit. problems, not just complaints.

I am running LVSW Edition 2007-03-25 and do not have this problem with calendar, maybe it is your version.

Try UIQ for a month, you`ll hate PPC
WM6 has a lot to learn, as I see it on WM6 we have many stolen UIQ features.
Microsoft still has a lot to learn, a WM6 device just wont work as a normal phone and switch to "PDA Mode" when you need it.
UIQ has done it, you have a perfectly working phone with access to all the main features, with a flip of a switch you can transfer yourself to a fully featured PDA.
hm, the most annoying thing you say.
yeah , can think of 1 - a minor issue yet very annoying.
the busy signal comes out of the loudspeaker (as it did in wm5) !
i hate it. yeah of course you can delete the signal or change ir to a very quiet one, yet ...

I do use UIQ3 on my M600, and I'm not impressed in the least. It has it's own set of problems... Stability for one. It's better than it was, but it still isn't great.
As for stolen features, that's crap... name one feature WM6 stole from UIQ. I beg you...
I beg to differ

you are using UIQ3 - don't know that OS yet.
stolen features?
what about the new "week view" of calender? it`s entire functionality is copied from UIQ 2.1, what about the softkeys finally they copied the ability to navigate the device features?
stability, I used a p900 - for 2 years - 3!! HR(and I was to BLAME)
PPC? - cant count any more, a buggy program can crash your device until the next HR.
most of WM6 design targets declared where for a better use:
stability
speed
usability
Hmm, I had a P900 and the P910 (still use it from time to time) My friend has the Sony P990 (UIQ3). If you want to see problems with UIQ3 use a P990, admittedly most of it is hardware related but even on the M600 you will find problems.
The only way you can compare these two is to only run them on default software and never install 3rd party apps!! I have run 3rd party apps on my P900/P910 and had to do many soft resets etc even with popular apps (Sman etc)
I am so glad that I moved from UIQ(X) to WM(X) as just the increase in productivity software available to me has made it worth it alone! BTW my M3100 running the latest variant of WM6 is rock solid.
Oh & haven't you heard the expression there's nothing new under the sun. Everybody 'steals' from everybody else.

Well I havent taken the plunge to WM6 yet, still on WM5, but yes... having migrated from UIQ on several previous phones, I find WM to be an abomination of undocumented, overcompicated and non-integrated bloatware.
The saving features, however, are that it's the only OS I can get on such great hardware (Hermes), and there is such a massive user base that like Windows for PCs, there is loads of great software and support from forums like this.
and here i thought the most annoying thing was that the soft buttons were reversed on the bubble breaker game

The real most annoying feature - the thing just does not work. Period. It's a glorified organizer. It's a toy for geeks like us. It's anything but the reliable tool you can depend on. Radio, messaging, alarms / reminders - they all have [not] mind and schedules of their own ... actually M$ implanted brain farts

SSSHHH! You were not supposed to reveal that information!
But it is true... The look on the face of my GF when I have to restart my phone before I can make a call or when everything freezes when adding an appointment....
On my original post: the scrollbars might be a minor thing but it is something I see almost everytime I use this machine.
although I have not used UIQ for a while last one was uiq 2.1 i think or was it 3?
It was a very good os and stable.
but doesnt look as pretty as windows mobile.
Although its better programed and runs better on lower speed processors,
reminds me of the linux v windows situation.
pros and cons to both.
I like windows its pleasing to the eye
I'm sure this can be fixed, but i've search and haven't found a solution yet, so here goes, the most annoying thing about WM6 for is:
In WM5 (standard T-Mobile UK rom) i had a link in Start Menu for "Running Programs" this took me straight to Start->Settings->System->Memory->Running Programs, i would like to create a link on my WM6 that takes me straight here too, but i dont know how?
the thing I hate so far is they (in WM6) still dont allow you to quickley dial a meeting number.... like I used to do in a blackberry...... thats the only thing I find really annoying...
I sould be able to choose a reminder and if there is a number value in there I should be able to choose it to dail.....
one fo my biggest complaints.
in s60 phones when I was sent a concatenated message it would display as one contigious message.
in Wm5/Wm6 a concatenated message is displayed as several messages and sometimes they come in out of order which is really annoying.
if anyone knows of a fix for this short of using an alternate messaging app please let me know.
My biggest issue is that I cannot connect to my office VPN using Internet sharing, worked perfectly in WM5 as a wireless modem, normal browsing is ok.
Malcolm
Most annoying thing...
(1) Boot time is incredibly slow, at last count 40 seconds from reset to ability to make a call
(2) I still cannot send text messages to 'groups' - major gripe from WM5 followed through
(3) Text Messaging - New has been replaced by Delete as the initial text message screen (possibly a setting I havent found yet)
Major speed advantage so far though...

That actually wasn't WM5 but an addition by T-Mobile.
You could use X-button to close programmes completely instead of making them run in the background. That way you don't even have to go into 'running programmes'.
Hello all!
For quite some time, I've been playing around with different interfases, looking for the one that would best fit my needs.
A few may have skipped my net, but I've been through WAD, Pointui, Ifonz, Winterface, etc etc, and believe me, etc etc etc
None of them seem to be the "all inclusive" I needed until after many weeks, decided to stick to Winterface, primarily, thanks to the work of davehutch and oscarbum with their Stickerface and Tenius themes which made Winterface a bit more palatable.
Yesterday I came across an article at mobility site which spoke about a Winterface version for the i-mate (http://mobilitysite.com/2008/12/vito-powers-i-mate-go/).
In a nutshell, it's a new Winterface version made for the i-mate, but here's the thing:
1) It's a 100% free version (aka, activated)
2) From what I've seen, it works on any wm5 and wm6 device
Why bother? Ok... Here's why: I understand that the "black" themes are having their moment, but the truth is they are unreadable in daylight conditions. And as crazy as it may sound, I use my phone outdoors.
So this version has BIG chunky icons on a white background which makes it very easy to read and see with all the Winterface benefits.
I'm sure the likes of oscarbum and davehutch can come up with some new icons, but this is the refreshing change I've been after some time.
Enjoy and let me know how you went with it.
** Added the cab for your reference **
fantastic, I never liked the small buttons of winterface when using my mda compact iv, it was too difficult to get them to work since the screen is quite small for a vga device.
works great, I can't thank you enough
Hey, no problems. I'm glad to start contributing for a change!
hey man thanks for putting up the .cab file (been looking all over for this) but do you know if it'll do fine on a QVGA or VGA
Works fine on QVGA, even works on WM2003.
Only caveat with this version is it's not full screen and it is so easy to close Winterface by accident. I raised this with Vito and was advised to upgrade to the newer version.
That said I have tried to live with it but have ended up going back to a modded SPB MobileShell as it shows more on my home page.
How can you make this 'today-app' be the one always shown if you start instead of TouchFlo?
I have the Touch HD/Blackstone
/edit
nvm.
Someone told me that it's not a today-app xD
So it won't be a home screen for me.
Default Today Screen??
Is there a way to make this interface the default today screen, I keep accidentally closing the program
I have been doing some looking around already, even before I got my Touch HD or joined this forum but I don't seem to have dug up much so far.
Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, I don't know - I'm still rather new to WinMo, so it's a distinct possibility.
Basically, I'm not hugely fussed on TouchFlo.
I mean don't get me wrong, it's not terrible and I can think of far worse interfaces but half the reason I went for a WinMo handset was to be able to customise and tweak it.
So whilst I'm far from hating my phone, I am wondering if maybe there's something better out there.
So far, in terms of alternatives, I'm aware of the Xperia panels (which currently don't work on the HD), whatever exactly the name is of Samsung's UI that runs on the Omnia (which I just don't like the look of), something called 'PointUI' (which seems to resemble a rather simplistic TouchFlo clone, from what I've seen in screendumps) and Winterface I think it's called (but if I wanted a phone with the iPhone's UI, I wouldn't've bought an HTC).
I'm also aware that other companies who also make WinMo handsets have their own UIs as well but the only one I've read anything about so far is the UI that Asus use and what I read wasn't good. Plus, obviously, there's the UI for the up-coming TG01 but it doesn't really jump out at me.
What I'm wondering than is if there's any notable exceptions from the group I've listed, or even any not-so-notable/relatively unheard-of ones.
I'm just looking for something... different. I know that's not much to go on but I suppose the truth is that I don't really know myself what I'm after.
Something that stands out is probably about as close a description as I can offer up.
Any help or advice will, of course, be greatly appreciated.
edit: apologies for posting this in the wrong place.
You could try Wisbar Advance Desktop with one of the WVGA skins you find here, or even make one yourself.
WAD is highly customizable, you can create almost anything you like.
Another UI is Bell UI, which is pretyy similar to TouchFlo.
hello,
on my side I have chosen UltimateLaunch. Quite satisfying for its simplicty and customization possibilities.
I actually did not like TF3D at first, now I've been seduced by it !
BUT, I have SecondToday running so at a touch of my right softkey I have a new today screen which now is full of PocketBreeze and various other today plugins on the vertical Tabs.

My objective (when I stabilize my installation ...) is to have the TF3D as a plugin inside the first Tab of my UltimateLaunch UI.
You could try some of the cubes,

I've just set this up a day ago - works very well indeed. 2ndToday is launched from the Left softkey (as detailed elsewhere in this forum) and pocketbreeze can fill the screen nicely.
here is something that i need your opinions, and it concerns spb mobile shell 3 and manila. based on what i have seen on the forum, it appeares most people use manila a lot because when ever a cooked rom is released by any one of our master chefs there is always mention of either something not working on manila, and judging by the number of concerns that people have towards manila, it appeares to me that most people actually use it a lot. i myself however the first thing i do, when ever i flash a new rom is to disable touch flo, which i believe is manila and instead use state of the art spb mobile shell 3, however, i just need your own opinions as to why you would just either manila(touch flo) instead of spb mobile shell 3 thanks
i use spb about one month and my opinion is , a very good program!!!!
Personally, I disable TF3D on every rom as well. In fact, I look for the versions without TF3D.
I really like TF3D, how everything is laid out and how it gives really easy access to so much information and ties so deeply into everything... However... it is slow.
Every time I'd start up my device I'd have to load up each tab once into the ram so I'd get fluid movements when I need it. (Contacts tab takes several seconds to load up the first time.) Not only that, I found myself disabling nearly all the tabs. As cool as it was, it was just too heavy for me when I only need really basic information.
I used SPB Mobile shell 2 back on my Hermes for the longest time, nearly the entire lifespan of the device, truly a great program. (That was until TF2D came out, then everything changed.) Allowed really quick access to the most important information without getting in the way of normal windows mobile. Sadly it wasn't very pretty no matter how many skins one tried.
SPB Mobile Shell 3 however, seemed very awkward to me. Accessing simply information was a pain and involved complex maneuvers to get to something that should be very simple. The 3rd version while filled to the brim with eye candy is bloated for me. All I need is a today screen, calendar, contacts and programs. I don't need a carousel nor do I need an absurd amount of buttons or cool animations to get me there either.
My choice:
Titanium on wm6.5
It has enough eye candy for me and is very simple and very fast. I'd kill for a full calendar on the today screen, but thumbcal off the appointments tab does enough for me.
version i tried was ugly, unworthy of the screen and resolution HD has, also confusing, didn't like the layout, contacts look....actually, didn't like anything
TouchFlo is simpler and better looking, really shows the screen in all it's glory and i could spend time just flicking through it to see how pretty and smooth it is, the new calendar, weather tab, people tab, sms tab....i'm shallow :/
now i use Titanium, both pretty and easy to use and customize :/
I prefer Manila. I do not have bugs on my rom. I tried SPB MS 3 but it's not as smooth as manila, no way. Icons has to load every time, then I do not have the "smooth" impression. However, scrolling in MS 3 is very fast.
For now, Manila is the best interface I tried. This is just my personnal opinion, not a judgement of MS 3.
thanks a lot guys i have used spb for a while and i must admit the new version spb 3 is the best and it is very fast as well in my opinion. i think once you learn how to use it, it does become very easy to use, ecspecially the new widgets, but what then are the advantages you guys see in manila
SPB Mobile Shell 3

I don`t know which version you have tried, but if it has been version 3, I guess that your comment would be completely opposite. When you try the third version, and you still like better TouchFlo - then it is only question of taste...
it was, it was green, green should be illegal....those tabs at the bottom left and right are ugly, but nothing compared to those icons in between them Contacts tab cannot compare with the TF3D People tab, weather widget cannot compare to the weather tab, point by point it's just not as pretty, glossy, shiny, eye-candy, TF3D and Titanium are both a very functional eye-candy....everything is 1 or 2 pretty icons away
i like things simple but shiny, SPB MS is neither :/

I am using both for about 4 weeks. Spb Mobile Shel 3.0 for work and Manila after work. I wish i could change the taskbar of spb to manila style or even to make the background complete black and not grey so i would use only spb.
I did try them all and right now I am using manila with certain tabs active ... sms, music, internet, photos and vids, progs and thats it. plus sometimes i activate a program that i just keep there for certain times its called winter face a very light smooth application that gives you an iphone like interface and its free.
i used spb keyboard and paid for it and replaced it now with fingerkeyboard which is free but far better and the same happened when i tried spb 2 and 3
now i have no spb application on my HD and i am happier
I think i will stick manila and winterface till i get Titanium on wm6.5 when winmo is officially out

Both TF3d better
I have used both .. answer :
TF3D is more intergrated eg with TXT's pictures and music .
with the shell you have use the phone own txt inbox and not the raher cute scroll in tf3d , this is the same with the music etc..
I want everything in one place .. and if possile not have to see the under bonet ..
Hi all, its been a while since I posted but I am the former user of the 8125,8525, and 8925 (tilt) and haven't used a pocket pc phone since then. I had my stints with the Fuze & Touch HD but thats another story. Anyways Ive been using the iPhone 3g/3gs for the last year and I recently sold it to purchase the AT&T Tilt 2. I must say although the phone is very good looking and this is the best qwerty I have ever used, the phone lags and it is kinda slow especially comparing phones like the iPhone or BBerry Bold 2. What are my options in terms of Navigating the GUI without TF3D? I remember when I used to own my pocketpc's I used a program called "HTC Home" which was simple, fast, and efficient. Does that program still work on the Rhodium? Do I have any options of using something similar to the TF3d but faster? Or will changing my ROM make the difference up in speed? Let me know what you all think and thanks in advance. Also What does "Manilla" mean?
Dude there are so many ways to have a decent UI without manila go through a lot of the rom threads and read about each one, Most have light versions and a titanium version that eliminate tf3d completely. MANILA= TF3D they are one and the same as I see it, some people might get more technical with you but its like a tilt 2 and a touch pro 2 different names for basically the same thing, minus a few hardware differences when talking devices. Also Give SPB Mobile Shell a try, you can download a trial and if yuo like it can either purchase it or do one of those promotions and get it cheap o pm me and I'll let you know where to find it I myself love tf3d and cant wait till it becomes fully modifyable with the ability to make my own tabs for whatever we see fit, It will happen just gonna take a while and have some genius' coding things so quick links can be installed in the script with copy and paste so its easy for everyone to do. I think there may be a few other 3rd party UIs out there too, so just play around and see what fits you. And if you cant fully uninstall something its not like a hard reset cant be done! Always backup what you dont want to lose.
See here for HTC Home for WVGA/VGA devices.
Buy an HD2
Windows default "titanium" is also very customizable and much less RAM eating than TF3D.
I´ll stay with Manila 2.1 working very smooth for me
I really lost interest in this phone the more I used it - I found tf3d to be too slow... Rather than flash ROMS, I gave SPB Mobile Shell a try. It's awesome! I removed all items from the today screen and just run the shell.
Memory usage is different as well. Before I had to keep it under 50% to get the phone to run. With Mobile Shell I just keep opening programs up to 80% and the interface doesn't lag.
Give it a try...
Want a familiar and friendly (as well as FAAST) interface?
Google iPhoneToday. It's mimics the iPhone interface and is very easy to setup shortcuts and icons.
Simply go t your SETTINGS>TODAY button and disable TF3D and ENABLE iPhoneToday.
I love this interface much better as it's quick and to the point. Also less memory uses than TF3D
