GPS for ASIA or at least China? - Touch HD Themes and Apps

HI
I'm living in china and I would like to have a good GPS software for Asia, I tried tomtom but they don't have maps for this area
thanks!

MapKing works for me. They have maps for many asian cities.
www2.mapking.com/en/MapKingDowloadPageEng.htm

I will check it thanks!!!

The Garmin maps for China are really good too, they can display in both Chinese and English and are the most detailed I've found for cities outside of Beijing/Shanghai.

I'm using Garmin Mobile XT 5.00.10 TW version with V7.0 china map, excellent!
And I've tried the Route66 & PaPaGo with China map, both of them are excellent.

Which Radio works best where you are?

With all the problems people have been having with WM6 and Radio, I thought it would be constructive if we could get a breakdown of the best Radios depending on location to save further problems.
I'm on O2 in Uk and on 1.13 supplied with Jwrights 06 ROM, works great, no problems although I haven't tested pushmail yet.
If all of you who are happy with your Radio please post your ROM and location, maybe we can create a list from the findings and post it as a sticky.
Please post the following:
1. Location
2. Network provider
3. Radio version
4. OS ROM version
Thanks in advance

I dont think this excercise is gonna work. This list will carry on and on and the developers cannot make special roms to suit the whims and fancies of all[Excuse my saying this]. I think some problems are network related in respective countries.
Even with other branded phones sometimes one looses signals or call is missed which is due to congestion and spectrum related.
Th4 I suggest unless its a major radio problem stick to what you have with the rom.
As for the pushmail/radio equation the developers will look into for a solution .

Well.... it might help newbies figure out which RadioROM to go for. I mean, I spent a ****load amount of time figuring out if I should have upgraded from RadioROM 1.09 to 1.13! The ChangeLog for the RadioROM does not exist and so people just want to know if they should risk breaking something which already works for them, or not. I am personally hoping for this thread to evolve into a ChangeLog for the RadioROM.
RadioROM 1.09 works absolutely perfectly in Sweden and in Australia for GSM networks only - I did not try it with a 3G network since I don't have a 3G account.
RadioROM 1.13 right is working perfectly in Australia - with some degree of surprise! I have a normal GSM SIM card but can piggyback on the 3G network of the same opeator I have a normal GSM account with. I could not do this with RadioROM 1.09. This theoretically means that with RadioROM 1.13 - the chances of you encountering a weak signal is lower than if you were using RadioROM 1.09. The reason is because if your GSM signal is weak, the Universal would switch to the 3G signal if its available and also if its stronger than the GSM signal. For me, probing the advantages/disadvantages of RadioROM 1.13 over 1.09 is still a work in progress. I am not willing to spread my observation about this just yet because I have reason to believe that the Universal has an in-built preference to 3G signals over GSM signals - regardless of the strength of each signal.
I can't wait to go back to Sweden and see if RadioROM 1.13 behaves in the same way with my network operator over there.
I have used 1.09, 1.13, 1.14 & probably more with all the various flavours of ROMs released here on the forums - none are satisfactory & none perform as well as a standard phone.
I have had calls dropped on all versions whether on 2G or 3G.
The biggest problem I have had is with email. I leave Puch mail turned on & travel; during the travel the signla may be lost or change from 2 to 3G. Sooner or later the email states that it can't get at the server & either needs the phone turning off (flight mode) or a reset. This has been common on AKU2, AKU3.2 & 3.5 and WM6, so I am assuming a Radio related issue. I have also tried it on two XDAs to rule out h/w faults.
Could be O2 though I have no evidence & others are happy with O2
Anyway:
O2
South East England (inc London)
XDA Exec
ROMs - most release in last 6 months
Radio - 1.09 & above (happy with none).
Radio 1.12.00
There is [New..?] Radio 1.12.00, does anyone will try...?
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Uploads/Universal/Radio/
radio 1.14.10 works great on vodafone UK
LOL
(Your quote was amusing to me)

Glad to bring some joy to the world !!
I am getting on a lot better with the O2 release ROM, the O2 extended ROM & Radio 1.09 on one of my XDAs. Seems to pick up calls 100% & push email has not dropped after 2 days.
I am not optimistic about having a 100% reliable WM6 / Radio solution for the Universal unless one of the operators produces it (& even then not so sure). I don't want a Blackberry, I like my Exec a lot, what I do want is more reliability & if that means using the older OS then so be it. I am missing the better Terminal Services Client but little else in WM6 is "required" for me.
I do like your work though & it is fun testing it on my other XDA.
so far we need to see more comments of radio 1.09 with wm6. Anyone tested that yet? we have one case of testing so far claiming problems only with phone alarm.

Looks corrupt, or not for the Exec as far as I can tell.
Cheers,

I uploaded to the ftp, and I have it running on my UNI. According to the people I phone with, the voice quality is much better in comparison to 1.13 and 1.14.10.
It's from T-Mobile. It was embedded in the Blackberry 2.1.2.31 dualapn package.
You can get the original file here:

Best Radio for China ? - vote

For users in China (no 3G), what would be the best radio?
half a year ago 1.27 was the most stable one...
but now there are more new radios out there...
so vote for the best radio you!!
I've been using radio 1.50 on China mobile since it was released. It works great in both HK and China. The GPRS coverage in some remote areas is not so strong, but in the cities is generally good. 3G in HK is great.
not much people seems to be interested in the matter of using in China
Is there a program to test the battery life and the signal power?
I use the lastest rom 1.51,it works very well.
I'm using 1.41.00 with a China Mobile SIM in Beijing. Decent reception, good battery life.
Still hunting around for the best one for China now. I heard 1.54 has some problems wrecking hardware, so i'm weary of testing that one.
Maybe Radio 1.47.30.10 is the best choice in China mainland,
Because it has:
1.The lowest consumption of power;
2.Beyond average siginal quality;
3.EDGE support;
4.Stable and speedy data connection.
That's all.

Best Radio ROM for roaming?

My question is, when you are overseas using your local providers roaming options to still use your phone, should you use a radio that works best on the network in the country you are visiting or that works best on your home network?
I have tried 1.46.00.11 and 1.50.08.11 on my New Zealand Vodafone network and neither support incoming calls but other radio functionality works fine (also noted here). So I stick with good old trusty 1.38.00.11.
When I go to Japan next week I want this still to work so I am hesitant to put the "leading" radio in the poll on as I may not be able to receive calls.
I will be using SoftBank in Japan, but I will be receiving calls redirected from Vodafone. I'll take a couple of radio ROMS on my card to flash if need be while I'm over there, but I was curious if anyone knew exactly what the biggest influence is, your location and network, or the calling users location and network?
Hey Julz, off to Japan huh? Fascinating place, make sure you check out Akihabara if you are in Tokyo...
I was in Korea a month or so ago and could get my P3600 to connect to their 3G network (using the 1.38 radio), couldn't make any calls but that turned out to be a Vodafone problem. Seems that VFNZ don't have a roaming agreement for their 3G network...
So I'm guessing you should be ok with the 1.38 radio.
Only other place I've roamed with the P3600 so far has been Fiji, worked perfectly there with the 1.38 radio.
Thanks Ant
Yes, this will be visit number 4 and yes I love Akihabara!! Will see if I can pick up a dirt cheap 8GB MicroSDHC down the alleyways.
NZVF confirms their 3G agreements with a couple of Japanese carriers, so it sounds like I should be ok.
Just thought it was an interesting question to chuck into the mix regarding favourite Radio ROM's to see if people change their radio when travelling

Best Radio for South Africa ?

Hi there
I am sure there are other South Africans here as well, I would like some feedback in terms of which radio rom(s) is best (used by majority) in terms of battery life and compatibility with local networks.
Hi BladeStorm,
I am on radio version 1.54.30.10 and on Mtn. The signal is great!
The battery life is also very good on my iMate jasjam running wm6.1.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
I'm also currently running 1.54.30.10. Works well except for 3G/HSDPA (dropped calls, a second or two of muted call at irregular intervals. I'm on Vodacom.
more current Radio version
Hi, I'm using radio version 1.56.70.11 on my jasjam on the vodacom network.
Great coverage in my area though, no problems with data or voice and no hard resets
how bout on south east asian(indonesia)? which Radio version is the best? thanks b4
yeah....i'm with xooku on this one....also on Vodacom in SA and since i've loaded 1.56.70.11 i havent looked back...
Normally the Radio of the last original shipped ROM of your provider is the best.
Radio Rom 1.56.70.11
Hey guys,
I am also using radio rom version 1.56.70.11.
I am on Mtn here in SA and i must say i have noticed a slight improvement over 1.54.30.10 with signal and battery life.

Configure 3G for China Mobile

Hi, I bought 2 phones in HK, one Chinese for my girfriend and one in English for me.
I want to do video calling with her but I can't figure out how to do it, it says 3G network not available.
I have a 2 Gig package with China Mobile ShenZhouXing for 100 RMB a month...
They said the settings for 3G are the same as GPRS Edge:
Access Point CMNET
IP: 10.0.0.172
I can get on GPRS Edge but its not 3G, I can tell by the speed and the 3G icon isnt at the top of the HTC Touch Pro 2....
Can someone please help me figure this out please!!
Thanks!
Robert
If I am not wrong, China does not have 3G network yet. They are on GPRS.
3G is available in China, but I don't think China Mobile's Easyown (ShenZhouXing) has 3G access. What you need is their new G3 service.
http://www.chinamobile.com/brand/G3/ (page in Chinese, not available in English)
China Mobile has 3G but cant use WCMDA
Need to use China Unicom, problem solved
Nicely caught. China Mobile only supports TD-SCDMA (Time Division - Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) at the moment.

I could google, but, whats WCDMA then?
Its super nice to have 3G in china on my HTC Touch Pro 2! I am loving it!!
made two very big mistakes on the way
1: Bought CHT TP2 thinking we'd have the HSPL quick
2: Bought China Mobile 3G (2Gig/Mo.) Plan and Phone number
And check this out, when I went to China Unicom the first service rep to deal with me was wearing a Communist Pin, the little red ones with the golden gear..... I told him I wanted the 100 CNY Data plan and he said there isn't one, only 10, 20 and 50. I say yes there is and he said I am wrong and they don't offer it. I had to insist on talking to his supervisors' supervisor to tell them I had been on their website just today talking with a sales rep and they assured me not only was that possible but there was a 50% dicount on the number (phone number purchase needed to buy the data plan of course).... I had to tell him to scold the rep because to turn a customer away without checking deeper is bad business! take of his communist pin and send him back to capitalist training haha... oh well.. I got 3G and I'm a happy camper, (and my girlfriend got the CHT version of TP2)
