The phone is showing multiple symptoms, even after a hard reset.
1. It is not holding a charge, even after buying a new battery. It charges, but the charge drains quickly.
2. The phone shuts off without warning, even when there is still a charge.
3. The screen occasionally becomes distorted, with lines or blocks of color showing before it shuts down, although sometimes it shuts down without the screen distorting first.
4. Sometimes the phone will not boot up at all. Sometimes it boots up only to the splash screen and then shuts down. Sometimes it boots up past the splash screen but then the screen starts showing lines and the phone shuts down.
5. At times the phone works normally (except for the constant battery drain) for up to 30 minutes at a time.
I don't know if this phone is worth taking to a repair shop or if it just needs to be replaced. Money is tight so I need to make the most economical choice. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong with it and if it's repairable?
Thanks for all replies.
Susan
some how i dont think its worth repairing.
You can probably pick one off ebay for around £80 and you could probably also sell the old one off on ebay as faulty for say £20, hence an outlay of £60
so your repair costs(i.e labour + parts) assuming phone is fully ok at the end off it all will have to be <= £60 imho
somehow I think u should cut you losses

i just got a replacement sx66 for the one with a snipped wire that powered the screen, when i put my battery in there MS voicecommand says 58%, when i put the battery in the replacement, i get nothing, and when i charge itit is just staying red, no sign of turning on and i tried every button,is there any spesific way of turning it on for the first time? or can the defective one be reading the power differently due to the much reduced power loads it is under by not powering the screen and keyboard making the battery not really 58%?
sounds crazy but i want to know what to do because i really dont want to take whatever is going to happen with this phone idley. please whomever read this please help
Hello everyone,
I've been trying to pin down a problem with my AT&T GS3 for the last few days and I can't really find anyone describing quite the same symptoms (or maybe I'm slow and missed something somewhere). The problem seems to be that my phone isn't recognizing the battery has a full charge more often than not. It started a few days ago and seems to have gotten worse, as in when I first noticed the problem my phone would still turn on for brief periods of time before failing to 'see' a charge > 0% and then dying. Right now, it just powers up ever so briefly- sometimes it'll just die after it says Samsung or briefly into the boot screen.
Today, I took it apart to inspect the motherboard and connections but I didn't see anything obvious like broken connections or burny, burny components, but idk, everything is small and I didn't have a microscope. I wish I had looked closer at the power IC chip and stuff like that but I'm blind and probably wouldn't have seen anything anyway unless it was super obvious.
Occasionally, instead of showing a sad empty battery when I power it on (plugged in), it'll show 100% like I would expect and it would get slightly further into the boot sequence before dying again and go back to showing empty and making me very sad and confused. I can almost swear this happens more often when I'm holding it a certain way or whatnot. One other thing I noticed is that when this first happened, my battery was about 32% and after a while of 'charging' it would show 86% when I got the 'correct' battery charge to display... next instance was 94%, then 99% and finally 100%... so I can only assume the battery is somehow charging but the phone just hasn't gotten the memo. I bought another battery (OEM) and tried to no avail, so I assume it's not the battery. I've tried multiple chargers and no luck there either.
So, has anyone ever seen anything like this? And if so, do you think it's the power IC, the capacitor in that circuit, or something else that I'm not thinking of entirely? I see that there's 4 battery pins/terminals/whatever and after internet'ing around a bit about phone batteries, it seems that 2 are the normal pos/neg (obvs), one is a thermistor for temperature, and one 'talks' to the phone to tell it all about the battery's voltage, charge, etc because the old way of indicating charge was kinda shoddy apparently. I'm definitely suspecting something to do with that last thing too, but I have no idea what part of the circuit that is.
Any sage wisdom here would be very, very appreciated and thank you in advance.
P.S.
I have some background working with electronics, but not electronics for ants, if that helps at all.
Done / Fixed
Never found out what was wrong with the motherboard but I did buy a GS3 w/ a broken screen off eBay to do the fix for cheap.
$100 (broken phone) - $65 (resale of parts) + unscrewing/rescrewing 10 tiny screws + detaching/reattaching some cute ribbon cables = phone worky worky
If you have an S3 or similarly easy to disassemble phone, I'd highly recommend doing some research and ebay scrounging before dropping a metric crapload of cash on a expensive repair or replacement.
I bought an OEM battery for my Dinc2 from eBay. It didn't look like it was charging, but I left it in there for a few hours. The phone never turned on with the new battery. So I took it out and put the old battery back in (which had a 100% charge)...and now the phone goes to the htc white screen and then goes to black. When I try to turn it back on, nothing. I take the battery back out, and I can turn it on again, but again it only goes to the htc screen and then goes to black.
I can hold power + power down to get into the boot screen. Recovery goes to htc, then black. Factory reset goes to htc, then black.
Is it possible that a bum battery killed my phone?

Sounds like your charging port is broken in my professional opinion. Even if the indicator shows the red light on the top, it does not mean the device is charging. The reason why it turns on and goes black in my opinion is, that it gave you a false charge on the battery when you charged it and won't turn on properly. You're able to go to the Boot menu because it hardly takes any battery life. I'm a cell phone technician, but that's just a guess from what you've told me. It could be a totally different reason. It's a very easy fix if that's the case. The charging port is on a flex cable and you can purchase it for about $5. As long as you know how to open the device properly, you'll be fine. If not seek a professional.

Thanks for your assessment. I guess what I don't understand is how the charging port could break with a discharged/faulty battery? When I first plugged the battery in, it made the orange light blink a few times, which I know is a signal that the battery is really low.

The charging port is really fragile, not much holding it down, especially since its on a flex. I'm not sure if this is against the forum rules or not, you can send it to me if you would like, and I'll be more than happy to fix it for you. Just pay shipping, part and labor. Part and labor $20 and you can use whatever shipping method you would like. Just give me labels to get here and back. You can take it to any repair center near you and they will probably charge you about $50-70. That would decrease the amount of time from the shipping, but it's totally up to you.
Merry Christmas everyone ,
Recently i booked a holiday for the parents to a Pent House in Jersey they had a lovely time with a nice roof top Jacuzzi. Now my dad, well.... had a few to drink and used his LG G4 in the Jacuzzi a bit too much with all the hot steam ect from the hot tub we think its caused damaged to the phone.
The phone from off, charges and once it hits around 4 or 5% it turns on attempts to boot LG logo appears and then it will go off and reboot. It will do this several times whilst plugged in. Sometimes it will get past the LG Logo and the vodafone screen appears but then reboot. or , sometimes it will come on all the way and start loading up the apps ect but then reboots.
Seems to me, this could possibly be a battery & charging issue? we purchased a new battery (tried new charges obvcourse) and the exact same problem occurs. I am not convinced the battery is getting enough charge to the phone to allow it boot up all the way however I dont have any way to fully charge it ? as the phone automatically turns on whilst charging.
Obcourse everything is taken out of the phone simcard / memory ect, but am struggling with this one. The problem we have is that all he wants to do is back up the data on the phone?
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks Craig

I'd say its a combination of the two
Its bootlooped because of heat
And its water damaged
Sorry to break to to you buy its good for the trash if you see this on the motherboard
Take it apart and see if the is oxidation on the motherboard before we try any other methods

I suspect it isn't battery problem if you tried another battery
If you open the phone and see no oxidation on the motherboard
Try one of these methods

Hi everyone!
If you think you can help me but you don't want to read the whole thing, there is a one line summary at the end ! I tried to be as clear and concise as possible, without forgetting anything. Thanks a lot in advance to those who will take a minute for me, really <3 . Also, excuse me if my english isn't perfect, it's not my native language.
Full version:
I'm desperate, I spent the day on a Redmi 8 Pro (1906G7G) that I want to repair at all costs for a loved one, basically to change the broken screen (step that went very well) but now I realize that it doesn't charge and there is a repetitive "knock" (even turned off, probably related to electricity I guess?).
I come to ask for help to diagnose it because I don't know where to start but I really want to fix it... Here is in chronological order everything I could observe and do on this phone:
Spoiler
1. Very occasionally, before there was any other problem, it could go into bootloop: you just had to press the different volume and power buttons until it unlocked, without any problem persisting afterwards. I think this is common on this model.
2. The loved one in question sat on it and the screen broke along its entire length, rendering the touch screen unusable and displaying colorful scratches: so I wanted to turn it off to open it while waiting to receive the screen I bought, but it went into bootloop. At first, I couldn't turn it off with the volume / power buttons as described before, so I counted on it emptying itself by bootlooping (it stayed like that for a few days) but as it was interminable. Because it wasn't emptying the battery fast enough, I went back and got it to turn off with the same technique, and this time it worked. At that point, I saw the screen and bootloop incident as a coincidence, since it happened few times before the screen has been broken.
3. I took the phone apart to replace the screen and I don't think I damaged anything: I really feel like I was both patient and careful, touching as little as possible as in the guides I found (I looked to a lot of guides to avoid mistakes). At the end, I turned on the phone (no vibration, I don't know if it's normal), it was still 5% and the screen was working fine.
4. I tried to charge it: no light, no charging icon, on or off, nothing happens at all EXCEPT (and this doesn't reassure me), a kind of "knock" that repeats itself every second or so (it's not the speakers, it sounds "electric"). I plugged the phone to my PC, and I got a notification (on the PC) saying that the USB lacked power to charge the device. I didn't have time to try to see the amperage and voltage info on AIDA64, the phone turned of before due to lack of battery.
Note: I have no idea if the phone started having charging problems due to the screen breaking or due to its repair, because nobody tried to charge it between these two events.
Summary:
A Redmi Note 8 PRO (1906G7G) no longer charges after it's screen has been broken, or a successful screen repair (I don't know, there was no attempt to charge it between the break and the repair) and produces a regular "knock" when plugged in (even when turned off).
Infinite thanks to anyone who will take a little time to help me, really. <3
Have a great weekend everyone !
