finally got an sx66!!....man it is a great little device...!!
but.....
...i believe i may have recieved my sx66 with a blown speaker(bought it on ebay ).....and am trying to figure it out....
i will describe it best as i can....
hmmm.... if i listen to music(volume half way or higher)on the sx66 its speaker will distort and sound like a blown speaker....and still won't play at the volume of the sx56..
the bummer is i do not have any devices in a store to test this theory(they are all backordered)....and if i have to take it into siemens for repair that will cost $$$.....so i want to be sure ..... ...i don't mind, i just want to get this sweet little device working correctly....also after speaking to Siemens tech support, they told me that the repair location is in houston. I live in houston, so that is cool.
phone calls sound ok....but the volume is very low....so that would work ok even with a blown speaker.....,yes?
..... any input you may have will be helpful......
also if i attempt to use the speakerphone past half way on its volume it distorts VERY badly....you almost cant understand the other person.
also...there is a .wav of a dog barking in /My Documents...if i play that at half volume or louder it distorts it.....more crackling than dog barking......
all of this was duplicated on my sx56 to test......and all work just fine.....
for poops and giggles i attempted a hard reset....no dice....
headphones sound nice....so i believe it is with the speaker....i have read several posts about bluetooth issues and such, but nothing pertaining to the speaker.....i understand that the speaker is not going to sound like a 1000 watt sound system, but it should work better than it does...ya know?
i am hoping that they would not put such a lousy speaker in there....even the default cingular ringtone is awful because of the distortion....i mean DISTORTED BAD!!....if there is a bad speaker does anybody know of a replacment?.....or fix?....other than turning it down....if i turn it down to where it does not distort, then you ca barely hear it....it is like half the volume of the sx56 with VERY low quality sound....
thanks thanks and thanks thanks again for your help to a fellow 66er....ROCK!!! and yes....this is a sweet sweet device.....after using a sx56 for 2.5 years....yep...i love this addition to the family.....just this damn speaker thing is making me bug....
Sounds to me like your SX66 really does have a blown speaker. My unit doesn't sound at all like you describe. The speaker isn't the loudest in the world, but it doesn't distort like that either.
(sorry)
I will be curious to know how you are able to get it repaired. Siemens probably isn't going to honor the warranty, because it was purchased second hand.
thats what i figured and found out from siemens....they will repair it, but it is on me...
good news is that the ebayer i bought it from responded to me and told that i could return the 66....
but i also did discover that the repair location is only like 20-30 min from me!.....is that not cool??....
so it looks like i am going to get it replaced......rock!...
ill let you know more as it happens.....
thanks.....for your help in comfirming my hypothesis about the blown speaker....
bummer!!....now i have to wait longer to get to know it....oh well, at least i have my faithful sx56.....the sx56 is such a good quality device.....i hope the sx66 can live up to it.....
thanks again....

I have noticed that my orbit is giving off a very high pitched noise, which is almost undetectable, does everyones buzz, squeal, it is hard to explain but is an electrical noise of some sort which is only present when the screen is on?
Any suggestions, or is this a "feature"
Hi StewD,
I get a kind of ticking from my speaker and as you say maybe a 10khz sine from my screen.
I believe that this is simply an electrical effect common to all such lcds but I can only chop wood so maybe someone with a greater range of abilities can tell me I am right.
I know what you mean, I have an Archos and many other "toys" with screens, PSP, NDS, Car DVD player that have an LCD screens which are silent?
while my o2 xda is ok, a friend of mine had a similar problem (the sound would only appear when the screen is on), got it changed by o2, new one is dead silent.
Do you have any more details, that is sounding the same as mine!....Can you get him to contact me....please.
High piched noise on Orbit
If your describing a high piched sound worse when you hold the styus on nthe screen I have the same. Just got my old XDA IIi out of its dust sheet and it has the same but higher!!
That's it exactly
Is everyone affected by this "feature"
Please reply with yes or no below.
I have an Orbit, and don't have any high pitch sound.
Tried with and without stylus.....silent.
Thanks Patrick, that's great, I'm hoping your in the majority to be honest as the sound when I'm on a call is almost unbearable, what I'm hoping is that I will get a couple of dozen or so silent orbits, from other forum members which I can then go to O2 with and get it replaced....
I believe it is a characteristic of the screens. Is it possible that some peoples high frequency hearing is not quite as sensitive as that of others?

Click to collapse
I know what you mean, but when I'm on a call it is intolerable, well almost. But like all these things unless you get 2 or 3 together at the same time and try them I'll never know?
Pity this forum doesn't require location when registering, not many people have updated their profile with where they are?.
Well that question received a lot of interest?! Is there anyone out there??
Hi StewD,
I am out here, off work while mrs. is in Austria.
Just a thought, but do you have very large pointy ears?
I usually just press the power button when I offer the phone to my ear, screen off.
LOL no standard human ears I'm afraid.
That is what I'm doing at the mo. but if there are silent orbits does that mean there is something wrong with mine??
I just thought there would have been a lot more in the way of replies to this thread...?
Thanks for your reply
I had the same "feature" in my Orbit. It was fixed by O2 Germany. So far (two days after coming back from service) my device is silent.
Cool, that's the sort of thing I wanted to hear, did they explain what was done, New screen, new firmware, or is it a new handset?
I can hear a high pitched whine from the LCD when I hold my phone to my ear, but it doesn't bother me too badly. I suspect it may be too high pitched for some people to hear (like the noise some TVs make or some dodgy fluorescent lights make).
However, thanks for the tip about hitting the 'off' button once the call is in progress!

It took me about 18 months to figure that out!
Well...contacted O2 today, and after the usual 15 minute wait for an operator person, explained the problem and she agreed that the handset was faulty and I should send it back for replacement.
Now I'm going to be without "My Precious" for at least 3-5 working days........Arghh.. I was just getting so attached to it as well....?
I will post more news when my replacement arrives........thanks for your replies.......
Hi,
Is there any way to improve the speaker quality, especially for playing video.
It sounds a bit sharp and squeaky.
Any software that can help or setting?
Thanks.

Plug into a headphone and enjoy
I've seen an SRS software somewhere on XDA, but as I seem to remember it was not 100% confirmed working on all devices and could cause problems.
If you don't want to plug in the headphones, you can improve sound greatly by putting something behind the phone, for example your hand or a pillow. You'll notice the squeaky high-pitch tones will be much less pronounced.
"cupping" your hand slightly as you hold the phone seems to give it a bit of a deeper sound
I have a Ameo phone (Athena 100) which ear speaker not available, i want a application which will working when my phone have a new call, it will stop left speaker and reduce volume of right speaker, just small as ear speaker
my phone run WiMo 6
I hope someone could help me
Thank and best regard
Sorry for my english too bad
Hi, Many Users Like Me Are having Mic Issue, i'm using XZL, but the main idea can be adapted "IMHO" to any smartphone facing this annoying issue,
After testing my XZL: Here It Is:
+The Positive: 2nd mic the"Cancellation noise mic" is working Fine
-The Negative: Main Mic is not working at all.
The IDEA: a patch "Zip" to "flash" That make the 2nd Mic as Main Mic (With some gain "Boosted Level") and Cancelling The Main Mic,,,
Ok, This IS NOT The best solution, But For The Ones Who The Hardware Repair Did not Work, This Solution is to Try and can give some positive response.
Ohh!!! i use a "Jawbone"
To DEVS on XDA i've no "Coding, programming" Skills and you Help will let this possible So:
1st Thanks for Reading, Hope the Best.
2nd "You KNOW What To DO" Peace :good:
This.
I have already replaced my mic once, and the replaced mic has degraded in quality, which was not very good to begin with.
I don't know why this particular phone is affected with poor mic response.
Please developers, please a fix to route the input audio from primary(bottom) mic to secondary mic( top rear side) will be highly appreciated.
Just like OP said.
Other Xperia ZL users who are facing the issue, please show support here.
Help us.
I'm on stock lollipop rom, rooted.
Thank you
Hey ZYXPER.
It's funny, I actually encountered the same problem this week. I decided to post it to /xperia-Z instead to get a bit more coverage.
I couldn't figure out whether it was a hardware or software problem. In the xperia service test menu, the front mic would hardly pick up anything, sounded damaged.
Then I downloaded this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grace.microphone&hl=en
Set it to work even without 3mm connected. You can loop the microphone to the internal or external speaker. The weird thing is, In this test, I can 100% verify that front mic still works... I can hear myself very well, and by blowing on the mic I can verify it's the front one. Apperently, the mic is still useable if you increase input volume (gain). Unfortunately there's no app/setting I can find to boost it under regular calls.
I think Whatsapp call usage some sort of auto-input level, because it's much much better in whatsapp and I can make calls no problem.
So today I used a bicycle pump, and put in on the front covering the mic hole (yes really.) and pumped it full power like 10x. No mercy. It wasn't working anyway.
And what do you know, it's pretty much works again! Not sure if it's as good as it should be, but I can make regular calls again. I suggest you try this.
